best bbq in tampa in my opinion I come here everytime I'm n tampa and never had a bad experience al and his staff are the best this is a tampa hidden gem 4 sure

It's absolutely one of the best BBQ I've had in a while.

When you are looking for it on GPS, don't get confused. Parking is in the back, and it's free for patrons of the restaurant. Walking up, it reminded me of my family home DEEP in the mountains. And even when you walk in, it's nothing short of real feel, WAY back in the day!! There are literally 3 people working (the day we were there), and they take EXCELLENT care of you! They are very friendly (even though I was caught off guard by the sternness in the gentleman's voice at first. Lol) But the 3 of them work so smoothly together, like a well-oiled machine. Your order is taken in a timely manner and then handed right to you. The place stayed packed the entire time we were there. My husband ordered the 2 item combo. While he would have liked the chicken skin to be a little lighter, the meat inside was still juicy and VERY tasty!! He loved the ribs, too!! I just had the pork plate and absolutely loved it! Next time though, I'll get the plate with just sides and only get that chicken and rice because OMG THAT WAS SO GOOD!!! I wish the collards weren't spicy, because I've been needing some good collards! Lol But our food was ALL delicious!! I can't wait to come back to try that mac n cheese! If you are in the area and want GOOD bbq...(or just good food all together) you need to trust your GPS and go give them a try! You will NOT regret it!!!

This place is the REAL DEAL BQQ SPOT, best service and best food I ever had as a southerner all my life. Come on a Friday so you can get their once a week mac n cheese too!!! If I could live in this place I would 😂 plus they’re very hardworking kind people, family owned business. HUGE meat plate 2 sides and a drink $20 bucks I split it with my husband.

I went in today to get some BBQ. I could smell the smoker going a block away. Ended up getting beef, chicken and sausage. With coleslaw and potato salad. This food is amazing!! I initially bought so much to make lunches since we have a tropical storm coming. Its so good, I've already eaten almost half of it with my boyfriend!! Best I've ever had!! And the service....just as good. They made me feel welcomed. So personable, kind and we all chatted for a bit. I will be back, weekly!

This is the go to for BBQ in Tampa! Super friendly, food is amazing and just down right wholesome. Filling, flavors that are the best. Will come back and continue to support the local businesses, especially with Al and Terrance!

All I can say is wow!! Such a family atmosphere! The food was amazing. I got the Ryan’s special (pulled pork and coleslaw sandwich) with collard greens and baked beans. The collards were very spicy but very good! Everything was so good! If in the area, stop by and support this family!

its not pecan lodge at dallas but dishes were great. hole in a wall place. I got the double combo with brisket and ribs, collard green and potato salad. Both meats were great.

It's definitely the best place for bbq in Tampa. Thursday, they do a turkey leg with 2 sides, and it is unbeatable! The pork sandwich is perfect, a little char, solid pieces of meat very little fat. Banana pudding is the only way to go for dessert. The 7Up cake is delicious, but nothing beats good Banana Pudding!

Wife and I went here because I was craving ribs. Let me tell you, I was so satisfied. Thick, juicy, and falls off the bone! Collard greens were amazing too, spicy- the way God intended!

Get the chicken and mix the sauces - so good! The collard greens are spicy, don't worry, they'll warn you. The chicken rice is tasty but I missed the mac and cheese (only on Fridays). Al was super helpful and very kind.

After we waited for about 40 minutes, the owner came out and picked a group of three white gentlemen to go ahead of us! My Mom and I are never going back! And the food had little seasoning!

Simply the best and authentic BBQ. Flew in from Virginia and was my first stop for food before checking into my hotel. Al and his sister were at the helm and prepared my food, half-slab ribs and sausage dinners with sides. BBQ and Sausage was Off the Chain Delicious. Excellent atmosphere. Got the half chicken, coleslaw and the yellow rice. The whole family was working and you could taste the passion in their food. Highly recommend.

The hole in wall food joints always slap. Food and service where excellent. AL says they been in business for 25 years and you can tell, man knows his BBQ. Ribs had so much flavor you don't even need their tasty sauce but if you want a nice kick with it add their hot BBQ. Lastly don't forget the homemade banana pudding hands down 10/10!

This is the BEST BBQ spot in Tampa. The guys that work there are super friendly, it feels like you walked up on somebody's Uncles BBQ and these guys COOK. We got the triple meat with Sausage, pulled pork and brisket. The brisket was my FAVORITE. Their house made BBQ sauce is probably some of the tangy-est, most delicious I've had in my search for good BBQ in Tampa. Definitely coming back here again!!!

Don't know how I missed this amazing establishment just minutes from my home right under my nose the BEST BBQ anywhere! Better than Memphis, Georgia, St. Louis, or Kansas City! Been to all those places and the best is right here at home in Tampa, FL!!! No matter you order it will be good! Great!

Between the variety of delicious sides ,to the size of the portions and right down to flavor you will not find better BBQ!! Al has truly found the secret and is sharing it with us!!! My husband and I tried this place because of all the great reviews we read online. traveling in from North Florida we wanted to experience something different. He ordered the 1/2 slab Rib dinner which was around $16 and came with two sides. although the ribs were very delicious the sides were were extremely small and tasted bland. Portion sizes on the pictures are deceiving or perhaps simply inconsistent. Our meal was definitely not worth the price. The Customer service upon arrival was also non existent, could easily be compared to service at a mediocre fast food restaurant. The only person that stood out was a lady called ''aunty'' she came to our table greeted us and attempted to wipe it down before our food came. ** Things to know: We visited on a very slow day. Also no free Parking anywhere is this area. We payed about $25 to park weekend rate. We by no means were expecting a fine dining experiance. I understand that ever establishment is different and am well aware of the fact that most bbq spots are very laid back and casual setups, however for this place to have such high ratings they must do better

Love the restraunts itself. You feel like a guest over for a community BBQ. Everyone was very friendly and the menu items have cute names, like Aunt Soandsos potato salad, or Uncle Somebody's slap yourself cornbreadmuffin. I had the pulled pork dinner w/potato salad and baked beans. The pork was a heaping pile and the bbq sauce was amazing. Hubby had the rib dinner w/collards and potato salad and a corn bread muffin. His ribs were delicious and the sauce complimented the flavor nicely. However, with the exception of the collards, the sides were just ok. The cornbread muffin was dry and crumbled, potato salad was very eggs and the potatoes were a bit undercooked, and the baked beans had none of that amazing bbq taste, just warm beans. But, who goes for the sides!?! We did have to pay for parking across the street, but it is Ybor. All in all it was definitely a delight and we will be back.

Wasn't a fan of non seasoned food..if season is your delight this is not the place.. food was cooked to perfection but no seasoning..ran out of sweet potato pie if you order it make sure you get it after you pay.. will not be back.. service and atmosphere was good..$58 dollar including tip... .

Perfect BBQ every time. Love when you ask for the spicy collard greens, they remind you that they are spicy. Sweet tea is perfect. Go there and tip well.

Walked in on a rainy Saturday evening lighter 4lbs than when I walked out. The ribs and sides were great, everything went way past my expectations. Awesome food made with a lot of skill, wish I could charter a jet just to eat here on the weekends.

I visited this place while on vacation. As a BBQer myself, this place gave me a run for my money. The ribs were falling off the bone. The ribs, chicken, and sausage were all well seasoned and adding a little extra bbq sauce took it up a notch. We had the collard greens and they were kickin hot as he warned us ahead of time. The potato salad and yellow rice with chicken were good too. The portions were large. When I asked if the food was good, he replied “I will let it speak for itself” and I was not disappointed. I would definitely recommend this place to everyone.

We looked on TripAdvisor for a hidden gem and this was it. Amazing! Save room for dessert! There was debate about which was best. I think it was the OMG cake. We shared the two meat special and a dessert and are ready for a nap!

Lover their food, my only complaint is I wish the greens had more flavor. The greens are very spicy which I don't mind but there isn't a lit of flavor with the spice. Service is always fast, whether dining in or taking out and there is plenty of parking.

The ribs were definitely finger licking good and HUGE. Probably one of the best ribs I’ve eaten.

I'm very particular about BBQ food and this place just didn't do it for me. The local itself is nice, and it feels like I'm eating at my auntie's place. My only problem was the food. I don't know if I got a bad batch of ribs, but they tasted like they were either put on top of the coals directly, or the grill hasn't been cleaned ever. I know a seasoned grill gives the food character and I'm all for it, but this was way too much. It was barely below licking a coal directly. On a redeeming note, the sides were excellent. Had the rice and been and oh boy did they made up for the ribs.

I was looking for something filling on my way to a concert, and I'm really glad I picked this place. First, the atmosphere: this joint is really small, but it smells great, and it just kinda feels like a "this is where people eat" sort of place. I'm sure that makes sense. The staff are friendly and the service is fast as hell for the quality of food you're getting. The guys there today just struck me as honest, hard-working dudes. The food was filling, delicious, and surprisingly unique. The baked beans were fantastic and unlike anywhere else I've had. The mac and cheese felt very homemade, but in the best way. I ordered turkey for my meat and it was actually tender and moist. Delicious. The envy of every thanksgiving dinner. I don't know if their BBQ sauce is in-house or not, but it was also very good. All in all, super solid place to get some real southern feeling barbecue. I loved it. Next time I'm in the area, I'll probably go back. I wish this place was in my town.

Part of me wants to rate this place horribly, so it remains a local secret. But, the truth is that Al’s is one of the best BBQ joints I have ever eaten at. Please know that I have been all over this country eating BBQ. I have even taken several trips just to tour BBQ restaurants. I always knew that Tampa was not on the BBQ map, so my expectations were low. But Al has changed my mind. Not only is it the best in Tampa, but deserves National recognition. Everything is outstanding, but the ribs and sausage are particular highlights. The sauce is amazing, although the meats do not need it at all. The sides are top notch as well … and don’t forget the dessert.

I need to start off by saying that this place will not disappoint. Sauce! You will find yourself not using it, even though they give you a very tasty bbq sauce with your order. Each different meat has amazing flavoring and juices that you have to try to appreciate. I ordered a 3 meat plate, ribs, chicken and pulled pork and an extra order of 1/2 slab of ribs. The staff was great with that home town feeling. If you love bbq this is the place to try. It feels like you were invited to their home for a good home cooked meal.

Boyfriend has been begging me to get food here so today finally made our way there even though we both sleep during the day since we work nights he said it always smells good so I decided to give them a shot service was kind of slow considering we were only the second customer once they opened but they were friendly or at least the person who rang me up was my boyfriend ordered half slab of ribs I ordered half chicken they said they only had dark meat at the moment so I took it we got the yellow rice and spicy greens and corn bread for one the corn bread was dryer than a Popeyes biscuit it crumbled so bad the second I took a bite and it was a very small tiny muffin shape was disappointed mac n cheese is only available in Fridays Greens in my opinion tasted like just hot sauce and vinegar thrown over them had a sour taste to me so I threw mine away bf ate his greens I liked my rice other than the pieces of burnt rice in it same for bf the sauce was really good but I doubt it’s home made boyfriend said ribs were ok but he didn’t eat all of them and said he felt like he needed to throw up on his way out the door to work the chicken was good with the bbq sauce on it but in all honestly not a place I would likely return to Might give them ONE MORE TRY cause maybe they were having an off day or try later in the day maybe idk not when they first open idk but idk we will see my first experience not a place I would recommend

Don't trust the parking outside. Says it is public parking but it is private. Let you time run out and you will be towed. It's like they are sitting there watching. Went to Ybor with family to bring in my birthday. 15 minutes after my time went out. Got back to the lot and my car been towed. They have someone sitting watching. Then I always came here to eat. Then they gave a $45 ticket. And $200 toe. Scammer

Al's has the best Pulled-Pork and Chicken, beans and ...pretty much everything else to eat. I love the food.

Food is good. Extremely quick, and prices decent. Having said that I had a bad experience because the restaurant is next a public parking area. Signs show parking isn't free so going in I had to pay 20 dollars just to park to eat here. Right after paying, a worker told me I didn't have to pay if I eat at the restaurant. It didn't make sense to me at the beginning but I just wanted to meet friends and eat quick so I paid. There were no signs indicating this, I wish there was a sign saying you don't have to pay the parking if you eat there.

Had the pulled pork sandwich, coleslaw, and spicy collard greens--all were excellent! If you're in Ybor and want something besides Cuban/ Mexican/ Central American food, Al's is a fantastic option. And get there early: They were out of mac-and-cheese by noon on the Friday I was there.

Fantastic. I’m no BBQ expert, just another New Yorker with high standards for good food lol. This place has phenomenal food from the meat to ALL the sides (I tried WAY too many and I even had the desserts which I could’ve sworn I was too full to eat but eating for two so we made it work ;) the people working here give real meaning to “southern hospitality”. This was the best meal I’ve had in Florida, only sad I didn’t try it years sooner. One of those places that makes you actually take the time out of your day to write a good review.

This place had good reviews so we made the drive and tried it. Our ribs were overcooked, cold and had a bad burnt taste. Service was ok. The potato salad tasted like ot was made at a grocery store. The collards were decent. The bbq sauces all tasted like ketchup.
