Awesome barbecue. I found my new favorite place.

The BEST POTATO SALAD I'VE EVER HAD!! All of it was amazing! Had the brisket sandwich, hubby had the pulled pork sandwich. Well worth the extra 7 minutes off the highway to get great local BBQ. Should we pass through this area again, we will definitely be stopping for more!!

This place has such a southern kitchen atmosphere, and the food was extraordinary. Loaded baked potato salad was the best I've ever had, the pork was also really good, and the Spicy Yellow Jacket sauce is the best mustard based sauce I've ever tasted. I'll be a regular here now.

We came to Bristol for the Bowtie Nationals. We came across this restaurant and read some reviews. As usual,pros and cons. But that's reviews,and different people. I can honestly say nothing but excellent quality here. Food was great. Service was great, small family atmosphere setting. Had pulled pork sandwiches,Mac and cheese, baked beans, coleslaw, and banana pudding. Food servings where very plentiful. Good Christian family. And it shows. Excellent 👌👍

First time visiting. We got two pulled pork platters to go. Got home and had no bbq sauce for either platter. Got two sides of Mac and Cheese. The Mac and Cheese tasted terrible. Definitely like it was from a box. The noodles were so over done and soft it was inedible. Coleslaw had no flavor. The meat was average. Definitely use your money elsewhere.

They food was great! The staff was awesome! Very friendly and fun... The prices are reasonable.. I had their rib special with two sides (mac and cheese and baked potato). Everyone else had the pulled pork sandwich and potatoe salad. Good Home cooking..

Found this place after a round of golf. Staff were super friendly and the BBQ was some of the best BBQ I've ever had. Will definitely be back and recommend everyone try it.

For my first ever visit to this establishment I have to say I’m beyond impressed with the food service and atmosphere. Don’t be fooled when pulling up to this place. It’s some of the best BBQ you will have. I live in Kentucky and I will be making trips specifically for this restaurant alone.

Got the large pork sandwich and mac&cheese and the loaded potato salad. Very good meal. Would have preferred fries instead, but the other sides were really good.

I chose this restaurant at random on a road trip and have to say that it didn't disappoint. The staff went above and beyond - super friendly! The kind of place where locals go and know each other. The food was good and an extra shout out for the toasted bun! A small BBQ sandwich *seemed like a regular size to me, with two sides was under $9!!! #eatlocal

We got the 4 person pulled pork sandwich deal with 2 sides. The barbecue had a great flavor, the slaw was crispy, the Mac & cheese was good and the potato salad was wonderful. We got it to go and everyone enjoyed it. They gave us lots of sauce to add to the sandwiches. The banana pudding was tasty, too. We will definitely be back. Want to try their ribs! Sorry no pictures. We ate it too quickly.

The BBQ was great and the service top notch.

Staff was amazing and super friendly. Everything we tried was delicious. We did nachos with brisket, a brisket sandwich, pulled pork platter, a bacon cheeseburger, and a grilled cheese for our son. The sides were great as well. They even let us sample the ribs. The hot fudge cake and banana pudding were both awesome. It was a rainy day but we sat and talked a bit and had a wonderful time. I highly recommend.

Fast and it was good also the people there were super nice I'm grateful for that seeing how the world is growing darker by the min.santa Claus brought us our food

Chicken and dumplings on Tuesdays, really good. But you've got to try the banana pudding. Very good.

We stopped in today (going miles out of our way) to try the bbq and we’re so glad we did. My husband had the brisket and ribs, he liked it so much, he ordered a pound of brisket to go. My son had the burger and did the same, ordered another to go. I had the chicken and pork and it is delicious too! The sides were good and we plan to go again when going back to TN. The waitress/cashier was helpful with a great too. Oh, and there wasn’t a bite left of the hot fudge cake!

Found this place out of the blue. Stopped in for a birthday BBQ lunch. We were NOT disappointed! The ribs tender and just the right amount of smokey. Amazing flavor! The service was beyond friendly. Everyone there seemed happy to be there and happy to chat with all of the customers. The prices are more than fair for the quantity and quality of food. You couldn't eat this well at any chain place for this price. We will DEFINITELY be back if/when in the Kingsport area again. I would HIGHLY recommend Bare Bones BBQ.

So disappointed in the food my favorite food is bbq so I was excited to eat here we came in on a Saturday. And we was the only ones there I got the BBQ and chicken platter and the food wasn't hot what so ever I know pulled pork is some pink but it was mostly pink even the chicken had alot of pink. And to top that off I looked at my drink it had black specs of something floating in it after I noticed that we just left.

Not a fair review didn't try BBQ I've had the Burger twice. Excellent food. Do Not like the fact they give you a bag of chips with a Fresh Hamburger but.... Other then that inside a bit tight, helpful people service is great.

Live literally less than 5 min away, so I get to eat here more often than others. I've seriously never had anything bad from here. The pulled chicken/pulled pork and brisket are my favorites. Wether it's a sandwich, platter, or nachos. Fricken great, highly recommended to any bbq fan.

Stayed in Blountville on a weekend vacation and discovered this place on the way to Kingsport. Great little hole in the wall and so glad I stopped! I had the brisket/ribs combo and it was excellent. I would return

Probably the worst bbq I have ever had! Not to mention the sour cream was expired by at least one month! Upon contacting manager she stated that she tasted the sour cream herself despite the date, sour cream tasted fine. Manager was rude. Waste of $100!

I have never ate bottom of line cold bbq. Bare bones is a great name because that’s all you get for ribs, bones! Worst bbq around…. What a waste of money!

Coming in from North Carolina I spot a huge difference in BBQ and sauces. I also never thought to have pulled chicken bbq nachos. I am floored by the flavor and if I take a vacation here again, I definitely know where to go.

This place is AMAZING! The service was phenomenal, the food came out super fast, and it is THE BEST southern comfort BBQ in Kingsport! And the dessert was just divine! My family loves to eat out, and we've tried just about every BBQ place around here. We just now found this little place last week, and we went back 2 days later, and I ordered the exact same meal... it's THAT good! 10/10 would recommend!!

We were very pleased with our Bare Bones BBQ. We came in late on the day before Thanksgiving hoping they would have enough for us. We especially liked the brisket - simply the best! We got the baked beans, dilled potatoes salad and mac and cheese-all very good. A great experience considering most places were closed on a holiday.

Absolutely delicious. Came in based on the good reviews and we were not disappointed. Tried all of the following between the four of us: pulled pork, pulled chicken, baked beans, macaroni and cheese, coleslaw, potato salad, banana pudding and a Blondie cake. Everything was spot on. Their regular sauce is the best. Hot is not too hot so don't be scared to give it a shot. Service is AMAZING. Someone always stopping by asking if you want a refill, etc.

We each had the delicious pulled pork bbq platter. Homemade cole slaw was great, the Memphis bbq sauce was a perfect complement for the nice smoky and juicy pork. It came with a big slice of toast to "sop" with and my favorite side: baked potato salad. We finished it off with a homemade banana pudding that does justice to what a Tennessee boy expects after a big weekend meal. Worth the short 3 mile trip up Memorial from exit 66 when you're driving down I-81. Skip the fast food chains and stop here if they're open.

What an awesome place, simply heavenly. We were passing through on our trip to Gatlinburg and just had to have some southern BBQ. Quick search lead us here and wow, what an amazing experience! They treat you like family as soon as you come in. The food is fantastic! You can tell they put a lot of love into what they do. Homemade BBQ sauce was good as well. Thanks for the great experience!

Staff is pleasant and friendly. The brisket was moist and flavorful. The baked potato salad was seasoned well and just creamy enough. But hands down the best banana 🍌 pudding I have ever had!! Wish they sold it by the bucket 🪣

Well I will start by ending I grabbed a pound of pulled pork 2go. I got the d barbq burger double 1/4 w/ cheese and the pulled pork. Plate was clean as well as all the others who came with me. The food was great and environment was great. Friendly people who seemed to love their job. And b4 leaving we thought we were done but succumb to the urge for dessert. Which you know with barbeque means banana pudding. It was so silly smooth and thick, but not to thick more whipped than anything. Everyone left looking for a place to lay down. Will see me again Thank bare bones for something different in town.

Food so darn good that you will need therapy afterwards. BBQ Nachos!!! Enough said...

Great food and great people! Hopped off a plane and was starving. Ran into this little place and grabbed a pulled pork sandwich. The barbecue sauces were delicious and the conversation was nice! Absolutely will return when we come back to the area!

Chicken & dumpling special was really good! Also the brisket special was too. We had 2 sides each: baked beans- they were good. Mac & cheese was also good. Cole slaw was better than average as was the baked potato salad. Definitely will be going back soon.

Best BBQ I've had in the tri cities! Their pulled pork is delicious and each of their sides are best in their class. Don't let the exterior scare you off - this place is amazing! Great food and great service.

BBQ is one of those things that is very regional, and nothing says North East Tennessee like Bare Bones BBQ. Yet the food also contains the essence of other influences such as Georgia, the Carolinas and St. Louis. Anything you order is phenomenal and I believe that is due to the fact that almost everything is homemade in house and with a true love for the BBQ craft. The pulled pork melts in your mouth and the brisket can compete with the best Texas brisket out there. My daughter had the burger (which I tasted) and I couldn’t believe the flavor. The sides were amazing to say the least, from the baked beans and baked potato salad to the homemade mac ‘n cheese and green beans. There are even more side options available and I’m certain they are just as good, we were just to full to enjoy them. And I cannot forget the BBQ sauces, made in house from the owners recipes. I recommend the Dixie Heat, even though the meat truly doesn’t need any sauces, they are just a bonus for the taste buds. To be more specific it not just the food, it’s also the employees that represent and embody this region. The staff comprises of family and friends. I’m not saying they only hire family and friends, but that is what you become if you work for them. Owner Shannon Vaughn and wife Misty treat everyone, employee and customer, like family and long standing friends. It’s like they welcome you into their home for a good family meal. They are very proud of what they do, and have plenty of BBQ competition awards displayed in the restaurant to backup the amazing food. As well, they put back into the community, feeding and contributing to first responders and military. This establishment represents Southern Hospitality and Class. I highly recommend dining with them and make sure to take your friends and family.
