Must try if you like barbecue!! Voted “Best Barbecue Ribs Anywhere” by my dinner guests. Ordered Carryout for a last minute get together. The ribs and chicken were cooked on the smoker right outside the restaurant door! They had so much meat on them and were cooked to perfection! This is authentic barbecue!!!! The ladies that took the orders and greeted me were very friendly and appreciative. Order was ready right on time. Several sides to choose from. South Tampa is blessed to have this business! Things to be aware of….open hours are Wednesday through Saturday only. They do take a break 3-4pm on open days. They are closed Sunday through Tuesday. I was told by another faithful customer that they do run out of items on busy days, so best to order carryout ahead of time.

I really like this place, the owner and her daughter are just awesome. They are like a good southern hug when u walk in. Their food is on point. I've been coming to them for a lonnnnnng time and don't plain on leaving haha

This is REAL bbq with the smoker right in front if the door. I have drove by this place a number of times and finally decided to stop in and wow, were we surprised. The two of us each got something different, I got the beef and pork, and my partner got the chicken and sausage Everything was delicious especially the collard greens for me The staff was so friendly and inviting. This food feels like you walked into an authentic southern kitchen and sat down to eat with a family. If you are in the south Tampa area and you were looking for extremely generous portion sizes and flavors that will delight that I highly recommend BJ's Alabama barbecue

This place has fantastic BBQ, the only negatives I've experienced here are they do sell out close to closing time of certain items (they must make the food fresh daily) and I wish they had more days they were open. This is my #1 place for good BBQ in South Tampa.

My drive to Tampa always involves a stop at BJ's. The owners and staff are just wonderful and the food is just incredible. What I appreciate most is the love they especially give my children. I can highly recommend just every item they have and can't even name a favorite - the ribs fall off the bone, the chicken is juicy, collard green better than homecooked, the beans have this Christmas flavor to me (do they add cinnamon or clove?), the cornbread is perfectly flavored - not too sweet not to salty, ... just yumm!

The atmosphere is like small town hole in the wall.Kind of place.But the food is good.The service is fast.The atmosphere is friendly. I would recommend this to anyone for good barbecue.

This is actual bbq. The amount of smoke is perfect and isn’t lacking like so many other “bbq” places. If you like sauce make sure to ask for extra. I can’t wait to go back.

Certainly a down home southern fatback collard greens eatin spot… Everything is always good. My ‘go-to’ Combo platter is always ribs, pork, sausage, potato salad and DEM GREENS😋 I drive over the Gandy bridge from St. Pete for this smokin’ homecooked meal. I sit and eat a lil then roll out back across The Bay to then enjoy the rest for dinner.

Best BBQ I ever had... staff was very nice and friendly. We had the full ribs, Sausages and Chicken with Collard Greens, Corn on the cob and Macaroni cheese...and it did NOT disappoint! All the way from NJ, but if I am ever in Tampa...Will definitely go again!!!

Went Here For A Lunch Day With The Hubby & They Did Not Disappoint!! Hubby Is From Alabama So He Thought He Was Some Type Of Food Critic But The Food Was A1, It Came Out Fast & Fresh. Hubby Didn’t Want Sides, So I Had 2, Mac’n’Cheese & Sweet Potatoes. 10/10 Would Recommend

Best barbecue I've tasted in a long time. I don't really care for barbecue ribs but when you taste these ribs OMG!!!! it makes you want to come back for more and the collard greens are to die for. I loved every bite of my food and yes I will be driving from St.Petersburg just to get me a rib dinner everytime I want some good old fashion BBQ!!! Made with love ❤️ BJ Alabama you did that!!!! I love the BBQ here it is delicious. The only problem is it is so good it is really hard to pick what to eat! Great service too in person and on the phone. Today I picked up a couple of sides for a lunch at my daughter's school for the teachers. I was blown away by the portion size for the cost. I will definitely be looking at using them for catering in the future.

Customer service is extensively lacking. Workers didn’t acknowledge me when I walked in and then proceeded with condescending comments about how I should have approached them. I didn’t engage in any further conversation but the lack of friendly and helpful service will deter me from going again

It can't be more authentic than this. From the smoker outside to the family serving , we felt welcomed, and the food was to die for. If you like BBQ, the real deal BBQ, come to this place.

Really nice place. food is absolutely amazing. Love the vibe. Brandy was "really super cool" my grandma said and she seemed very engaged and happy. She gave great customer service. My grandma and me both were absolutely amazed with the BBQ sauce. And the food was being prepped in front of us so it's all fresh and home made. 5 stars

Absolutely Best BBQ in the Bay!

The food is phenomenal here. We've been searching for a BBQ place for a while and couldn't find one that was crave-worthy. Our search is finally over. BJ's is the best BBQ in the Tampa Bay area. The ribs are a must have. They fall apart and are so meaty. The sausage is absolutely delicious. The beef bottom round is great as well. I normally find that bbq chicken can be dry at other places but not here. We've had two catering orders with Brandy and each time, the food was totally worth it. Amazing.

My family went on June 29th at 2:30 , unfortunately they were closed due to the unexpected Florida storms , as we were walking back to our car the employees came out and said they will reopen at 3:30 , they allowed us to stay under their carport while we waited and gave the kids popsicles ,since we drove over an hour to get there the stuff was so friendly to the point they made you feel like family , once they reopened we went in order the full rack of ribs and the sampler plate and sides(green beans- baked beans-mac&cheese) - everything was ON POINT hands down some of the best bbq I’ve had. my husband was so stuffed that he forgot all about the two pies he ordered 😂 . We definitely will be back

You rock ladies. I met my dad and two aunts here for lunch a few times now and we are always happy and full when we leave. The ladies who run the place are energetic and friendly and the food is absolutely amazing.

Had the chopped pork sandwich with potato salad. It was very good. Liked the tang of the sauce. The staff was.attentive and the prices were right. I would highly recommend.

The collards didn't taste like nothing just no flavor at all the cornbread was so hard even after I warned them up I ask for pork meat and they gave me a rib the yams were out of a can and you can tell bits and pieces just terrible I was visiting and I will never eat there again!!!! The only thing I sort of liked was the sausage the gave me 2 slices of light bread the end pieces we go to Tampa often despite this place will not spoil my trip I'll be back to Tampa that is save your money maybe they will do a better job but by the time I come back they won't be open anymore😁

Listen. When you taste the ribs and they hit you with the wood smoke smell from the grill - not charcoal! Baby. This is the best bbq I've had in a while and I'm from Alabama. Today was my first time visiting, it won't be my last. They are going to get sick of seeing me. They were so nice and welcoming, it felt like I was in Alabama eating some really good food with family. Everything was a 10/10, I definitely will be going back again!!

Pulled pork and potato salad were excellent. Definitely going back to try more of the menu.

Excellent food and even better service! Everyone was so friendly and welcoming! They made the food quickly and brought it right over to our table. It started to rain and one of the sweetest employees allowed my wife and children to walk through the back door to a covered area so that I could pick them up in the car without them getting wet. I highly recommend this wonderful restaurant!

Finger licking tender BBQ ribs and chicken, savory collard greens and yummy candied yams with cornbread. Wash it all down with a ice cold true southern style sweet tea. I was in heaven with every bite😋 This is a family owned restaurant that's been serving the area for many decades. The ladies treat you like family from the moment you walk in the door. So, don't take my word for it, come on out and try it for yourself you won't be sorry. They have many other BBQ favorites and sides to choose from.

Just like many of the reviews said, my family of 5 was visiting Tampa, Florida (after a trip to the aquarium) and we stumbled upon this interesting restaurant with a humongous smoker outside. We immediately rolled down the windows and smelled the most amazing smoky smell!!! My husband and I turned to one another and said, “ We have to try this.” Well… It didn’t disappoint! the moment I walked through the door I got the most pleasant welcome from the nicest and happiest woman! I told her how we stumbled upon this restaurant and asked if they have gluten-free options l. To my surprise almost everything is gluten-free because it’s all homemade with natural ingredients (that are a family tradition). My family, ordered 2 sampler platters and EVERYTHING was fantastic! We went back to our hotel and put out a spread of what we all called a southern Thanksgiving meal in May! The home cooked taste was unforgettable and we could immediately tell everything from the smoked meat to the string beans and potato salad was made with love and pride! Thank you BJ’s Alabama bbq for giving us a true southern experience during our Florida vacation! This place is a must! I recommend trying everything (the sampler)!! I’d give it 10 stars if I could!!!

Ordered chopped beef, ribs, Mac and cheese, cabbage and cornbread. The ribs were ok, the chopped beef was mushy and did not smell right. The cabbage was bland and had too much spiciness. The mac and cheese was bland. The corn bread was dry. I do want to add the woman at the counter was friendly and very helpful.

I was just there for my first time on Friday… and honestly I wish I had started coming here since I first moved to Florida!!! When I tell you the BBQ IS AMAZING!!!! 😮‍💨. My husband has been coming here for awhile and I have been meaning to visit and I will DEFINITELY BE BACK! Everything on their menu is just *Chefs Kiss* 😘 . I promise you no matter what you order not only do you get nice size portions but the food will be phenomenal! Oh and I almost forgot they have these mini home made sweet potato pies!!! Just like Grandma made home cooking. Beef, pork, chicken and ribs smoked slow. All the sides are home made. Greens, potato salad, green beans and Mac n cheese. Recommend a thousand times over.

Every state I’ve ever lived in or visited I’ve made it a point to try a few BBQ places. This place absolutely blows any BBQ I’ve ever had out of the water. Everything is smoked to perfection. It’s never dried out. The service is awesome as well! You feel like you’re at home the moment you walk in. This will be the only place I go from here on out! Thank you for doing BBQ right!

1st off the service was fantastic, young Lady at front was very nice and welcoming. But as for the food…… not so much. I asked for 1/2 chicken and 1/2 slab of ribs. She said that they were out of chicken, but then asked if I wanted dark instead. I agreed, but when I arrived home I realized I got a dry —non eatable, and a small leg quarter. The ribs were ok at best, but the chicken was disrespectful.

Best BBQ in South Tampa! They are closed between 3-4pm for a break. In really busy days they may run out of food before 3pm and close a little earlier. There are tables inside for those who want to eat in.

The bbq pork sandwich was amazing. The ladies working were wonderful. They were working their butts off!! Cannot wait to come back. They sell out before they close so get there early!

Just driving by and the fresh meat smell captured my attention. Glad I stopped by. They were busy but I was still served in under 10 minutes meat fresher than anywhere in town. The smoker outside isn’t just for decoration. The sausage was immaculate. I’ll be back again.

Saw this place after we drove up from St. Pete for a Doc appointment a few weeks back and figured we’d give it a try next time we were there. And damn, did not disappoint. We both had the 1 meat combo with ribs, they were delicious and the sides, just wow. Gotta say the service was 👍👍, we’ll definitely be back.

Came down from Toronto for the Blue Jay's game and fell in love with everything about BJ's Alabama BBQ. The staff was amazing and when I finished my 3 meat combo meal, I had to get another order to go because we leave tomorrow morning to drive back to the Great White North. I'm a frequent customer of BJ's. Outstanding food, and friendly and professional service. The ribs and the sauce are the best. Great sides and the sweet potato pies are very good. But you've got to get there early! The only restaurant I go to for ribs.

I have been wanting to try BJ’s for a long time—after all, no one does bbq like Alabama!—and today I finally got my chance. Delicious! Unique sauce: not too sweet, not too spicy, but a nice combination of the two. I had the pulled pork sandwich. It had the smokey flavor I always look for in good barbecue and some nice crispy edges, but the inside was moist and tender. All of the sides were homemade, southern style. The staff was delightful! Cheery and attentive, they served us at our table after ordering at the counter and checked in regularly to make sure that we were enjoying our visit. Can’t wait to go back! Update 2 years later: Since that review, my partner and I have become regulars at BJs and can always count on an enthusiastic greeting from the owner when we walk in the door. We crave their barbecue and drive across Tampa as often as possible to get our fix. My partner’s birthday was this week, and several of my family members coming from St. Pete wanted a convenient place to meet us for lunch in Tampa. BJs fit the bill, being just a short distance off the Gandy. They confirmed that the food lived up to our high praise, and the service went above and beyond. The owner personally pulled tables aside to create a space for the six of us to sit and delivered our food and refills to our table, taking the time to make us feel appreciated and welcomed. And this was during their Friday lunch rush!! BJs takes care of their customers, and as long as we are in Tampa, we will be fans and loyal customers of the best barbecue in the city.

LONG AND HONEST REVIEW INCOMING: I got a delivery order from this spot that included all of the meats, as well as a side of greens, Mac and cheese, baked beans, and potato salad. I will start off by saying the meat was amazing! The smoked flavor along with their barbecue sauce really set off the meal. However, the ribs were over cooked, dry and chewy. That being said, overall the meat was pretty good. Now the bad part; the sides were just plain horrible. The greens were the worst I’ve ever had. Not cleaned correctly leaving a gritty and sandy texture, not cooked fully and just bland. Tastes like dirt. The potato salad was okay, tasted like a regular, pre-made, store bought potato salad. The beans were decent, but had a strong taste of cinnamon which wasn’t good and off-put them. The mac and cheese tastes like frozen stoffers mac and cheese and was bland and gummy. This is some good barbecue as far as the sausage, beef, pork, and chicken goes and I would order it again but just those select meats. I give them a three because they have the potential to be amazing, just need to tweak a few recipes. I would try this place again.

Drove 1 hour because I heard about this resturant, heard that it was the best BBQ in Tampa and boy were they right. The Co Owner Brandi made me feel like I was at my Cousin House lol. She was so welcoming and informative. The FOOD WAS ABSOLUTELY DELICIOUS!! The Sausage, the Ribs, the Beans, wow mouthwatering as I type. The staff here was absolutely amazing. Brandy made you feel like family as soon as we walked through the door. In conversation, we told her this was our first time visiting and she gave us sausage to sample since we had ordered ribs. The sausage was amazing, and yes I went back and ordered the sausage. The rib dinner, including the sides were absolutely delicious. They were seasoned well and the smoke was just right. We now have a favorite spot in Tampa! Great job BJ's Alabama BBQ!!

Being from New York, it's hard to find a place that has great food paired with INCREDIBLE customer service...... FOUND THEM BOTH IN ONE SPOT!! I had a rather large order, one that you would normally call in days before, and the young lady at the front was absolutely awesome taking care of me, and everyone else that walked in, WHILE ANSWERING THE PHONE SAME TIME!!! I called to place an order. The person who answered immediately had an attitude and stated she was out of ribs. I didn’t hear her initially due to background noise. I asked for a thin end sandwich to which the person nastily stated “thin end is ribs and I said we ain’t have no ribs”. I heard the ribs were amazing, however, due to the disgusting attitude and horrible customer service I don’t care to even try the food.
