Morning after seeing the Hurricane Alert in Tallahassee , we thought of looking for a good place to have a coffee. Searched the for the new place and got “Black Dog Cafe”. Just went there to explore and found that this is serving by women for last 26 years. There are lot of options in coffee and snacks. The staffs are so friendly and jolly. Place is lakeside and nice arrangement of seating. Truly like and love this place , for sure will visit again !!!!

Has been a favorite over the years but the quality of service, the drinks, and the experience has gone down over time and is never consistent. Took 25 minutes for them to toast a bagel and not even spread the cream cheese on it for me at 3p with no one ahead of me? Also, my chai was not good - I think something off with the ratios or milk? Generally rude staff. I’ll keep coming back because I’ve loved it since 2015 but was amazed by the recent bad experience.

This is the cutest coffee shop in Tallahassee, hands down. When moving to Tallahassee, I was looking for a cute, inviting, non-chain coffee shop with good coffee, and Black Dog Cafe goes well beyond that. The employees are incredibly kind, it’s woman owned for over 25 years, so many options as far as coffee, great pastries/food, and had the cutest indoor and outdoor seating, right on the lake. I cannot recommend this place enough. Every free morning I had was spent here!

Excellent locally owned cafe! The staff are impeccable and the atmosphere is comfortable. A great place to meet friends or spend time alone. Highly recommended! Edit (6.10.24): I'd love it if this place offered some savory foods to balance the sweet baked goods. I'm fond of healthy fats, such as bacon and cheese, wrapped in a warm, flaky croissant. I also like lil' weenies (pigs inna blanket, hehehe). You can thank N. Scott for this one. He knows all about the Food Pyramid structure in the USA, and how to flip it in a most conducive way. I sure do love some healthy fats.

Black dog was an experience that came with a great cup of coffee, it's hard pressed to find a gem in a busy city that makes you resonate with the hear and now. This coffee shop takes you out of tallahassee and welcomes you into a far away oasis with a small lake, shaded deck seating, or beautiful tree covered lounging. This cafe is tucked away near Lake Ella! It exudes a cool, laid-back atmosphere, reminiscent of the 70s! Coffee was delish & gluten free baked goods were a welcome & tasty surprise! The outdoor deck offers sunny & shady tables with well positioned canopies! They even sport a kiddie corner inside! I can’t wait to take my Grandson! They offer t-shirts with cool graphics for Ladies & Gents, too!

Lovely little tucked away coffee house. Difficult to see from the street, the sign is tiny and low to the ground. The prices are reasonable and views of the lake are beautiful. I spent $9 for a latte and zucchini bread. Very popular spot, so seating can be a challenge, especially if it has been raining, but worth a visit.

This place is always a winner in my book. Everybody is always so wonderful. Their drinks are absolutely amazing and their pastries are yummy and go outside and sit and just watch the ducks and the geese on the lake and the people walking by it’s one of my favorite spots in Tallahassee.

Located at Lake Ella, it is the perfect spot for breakfast/brunch and a stroll after. Favorite spot when visiting Tallahassee. Great coffee options! Bagels are yummy! Consider adding Cinnamon Raisin and Blueberry, please! Do wish their frittatas were just a little larger with a spinach one included in the line-up. Only downside is that smoking is allowed in the garden seating area (below the deck). Full ashtrays and secondhand smoke are a blot on the otherwise trendy coffee cafe.

We stumbled across this cafe by chance and it's so underrated!!! The menu is simple and so well priced. The service is so nice and everyone is helpful. The scenery and location is really cute and really adds a charm to the place.

Prime location with it being next to a small lake! Great matcha latte as well. Limited indoor seating but plenty of outdoor seats under trees or with a lake view. A very nice place to work or hang out all day.

Wow!! I was blown away by my first visit to a coffee shop in Tallahassee! The atmosphere was so cozy, making it the perfect spot to enjoy a drink with a friend. I’ll definitely be back; this review is as trustworthy as they come. I tried their iced coffee, gumbo, pesto tomato bagel, and a slice of blueberry pound cake, and everything was incredibly delicious! The owner, who I think took my order, was incredibly kind, adding to the overall great experience. The entire staff was fantastic too. If you find yourself in Tallahassee, you absolutely must visit Black Dog Cafe.

Such an icon of the Tallahassee scene. I've lived here for 15 years and Blackdog has always been the go to for common meeting spots, first dates, quick coffee in the morning, and quite a bit more. Phenomenal cafe that still carries on the atmosphere of 2nd wave coffee cafes (think Central Perk from Friends) which is such a breath of fresh air when it feels like every other coffeeshop has fully embraced the Modern/Euro/Minimalism aesthetic with clean lines and flat surfaces. Blackdog feels lived in. It feels homey. Highly recommend their Blackdog Blended coffee (its their version of a frappe) and its tremendous on hot summer days and it pairs wonderfully with a walk around Lake Ella.

Very good overall!! Great kombucha and Italian Soda(soda water with your choice of syrup). Our affogato was made wrong however, and the ice cream was put into a cup with espresso in it, instead of pulling the espresso shot over the scoop of ice cream. Atmosphere is great and they even have a little table with activities for kids. Excellent outdoor seating but good luck finding a spot because they can get really busy!!

Black Dog is perfect. The main thing that sucks is that it’s popular so there’s always a liiiiine. Get the Black Dog Frappe- it’s the signature drink.

I did not enjoy the food at all. The hand pie was terrible, had no taste absolutely whatsoever and the bagel was okayish. Loved the location but really not great place for food. Drinks are good.

If you visit Tallahassee it's a must stop. The coffee was delicious, the view was great and the lady that waited on us was so pleasant and informative.

Visited for the 1st time this morning and what a lovely experience. My boyfriend and I each ordered a drink and a baked good. He ordered the iced Vietnamese coffee which was delicious along with a chocolate filled croissant (also delish) and I ordered one of the specialty drinks which I believe was called the lavender haze latte and I ordered it iced(tasted like chocolate covered strawberries with a hint of lavender). SOOOO yummy! For the baked good I ordered the mamusa(I think that's the name) and it was very good, almost like a chocolate, nut type of bar, very dense and filling but also delightful. 10/10 would recommend!! The barista was lovely and helpful as well. Left spending $21 for everything.

Good food, me like honestly, could not have been better

Perfect little cafe! We ordered a latte with lavender flavor, a drip coffee, and a carrot muffin. The drinks were delicious but the muffin was by far the best! The atmosphere is relaxing with a view of the lake. There were even two adorable cats enjoying a nap in the sun while we sipped our drinks.

I genuinely love black dog and I come here probably twice a week. However, they got new tea pots that are HORRIBLE. They hold almost no tea, barley filling up half of a large to go cup, spill everywhere, and they don't hold loose leaf tea which is sadly a major disappointment to me .

There are plenty of great coffee providers nowadays but Black Dog's great coffee is offered in a pleasant and relaxing location. Service was great too.

Fr the best coffee I've had in Tallahassee. Coming from NY it's tough to find genuinely good coffee and wow I found it here! And the staff is so friendly it literally made my day. Oh and the coffee is fair priced too! 10/10

Staff great, location great, coffee alright alright, but prices, pheeeew... 5.2 usd for a latte, single shot... Man, that's a new one... I will of course come back, but not my favorite spot anymore. Think, 5 usd/coffee/day equals 150 bucks a month or 1800 usd a year... Just for coffee..

Great coffee & even better scenery.

Lovely, eclectic little coffee shop by a lake. The staff were very friendly and there were lots of choices in coffee, tea, Kombucha, and desserts. This was our first visit, but definitely not our last. Now I know why the place was packed 😊

Really enjoyed starting my Saturday at Black Dog. Great atmosphere and terrific coffee. Loved the view and walk around the lake.

The other day I came to Black dog to relax and get some coffee. The coffee was great and the two girls working were lovely. But I was blindsided when I heard the male barista loudly proclaim his dislike and disagreement of trans people and "pronouns". As a trans nonbinary individual, I was disgusted and disappointed to hear this. I felt very unsafe and left immediately after. I will not be returning until I know this man is reprimanded for voicing his hateful views at the workplace. Overall, I am very sad to lose my go-to coffee shop as the coffee and food is always great and has always been a safe space for me.

You know when you’re having a rough week? That job you were looking forward to was taken, that fishing trip you’ve been dreaming about was canceled, that highly anticipated final episode was delayed… and the world is overall a little bleaker? Well.. today was one of those. Was. The vibrant sparkly shine of the unusually genuine smiles of the young Carson and Michael duo really upgraded my expectations for the rest of the week. 10/10 will return for more. Good coffee ✅ Good attitudes ✅ Good muscles ✅

The cinnamon roll was soft, and tasty. They were busy on Saturday morning but the wait was not long. Such a peaceful place to enjoy whatever you are having.

I decided to try the Vietnamese Coffee today, and I would of loved if it had more condensed milk. While it was still an amazing concoction of flavors, a tad more condensed milk would have been perfect. Usually this would bump my rating down to 4 stars, but the two handsome baristas managed to keep it at 5.

Black Dog Cafe does not like dogs!!! We stopped to get a coffee "to go" before our trip back to Miami We were holding our ESA dogs up and were planning to be there for just a minute. We were stopped at the door by a very unpleasant lady with no manners who hold us there under the sun on a 105° day, interrogating us about the training of our dogs and refusingto let us in. What a disgrace of a person and what an idiot policy. Below you can expect to read the store response with the lie about a Florida code that does not exist. We go everywhere with our ESA chihuahuas and they are always welcome, this store is just run by an ugly person that hates dogs.

I love love love Black Dog! This is one of my favorite places in Tallahassee. It’s right next to Lake Ella so you can get coffee and walk around the lake. It’s also a nice place to study or read. There’s a lot of outdoor seating. Their drinks are great, currently they have a red latte made with Rooibos tea and it is amazing especially with lavender added. Cannot recommend this place enough.

The coffee here is pretty good, and they have a lot of unique flavors available on their menu. They also have a good selection of milk alternatives. I've always been satisfied when I visit. (In fact, this cafe has been the ONLY cafe that has made a pumpkin spice latte that I like.) The only thing I can mention is that there's far more outdoor seating than indoor seating...but whether you see that as a good or bad thing is personal preference. True to the name, Black Dog Cafe is very dog friendly, so outdoor seating is definitely a plus if you have a furry friend with you.

This unimposing little coffee shop represents all the best qualities of Tallahassee. It’s warm, inviting, and the staff works hard to cultivate a friendly atmosphere. Was sitting outside contemplating on what a terrible day I had been having, when out of the blue a barista approached me to ask if I was alright. He didn’t buy my excuse, so before walking away he asked me my favorite coffee flavor, and a moment later returned with a delicious and warm cup. I don’t typically write reviews, but feeling so cared for that I teared up in public more than merits it. Unbeknownst to either of us that was exactly what I needed. Needless to say, I will be coming back. And you should too. If the staff are reading this, I hope you have an amazing day.

Disneyland it wasn't but like the Patrick Swayze movie of the same name the black dog was a just plain vanilla cool place to munch down, good food, on the water, good folks yes I drove 2500 miles to just be passing through but for anyone local or limited staying time great to have crossed paths kudos to all

I really love this place. Decent coffee and a very nice indoor and outdoor area! It's right by Lake Ella, so a beautiful view. The only issue I've had is that their wifi never works for me and I always have to use my hotspot. This is true for several other people I know as well. They also change the password every day, which makes it so you have to "forget" the network every time. But it doesn't matter bc the wifi doesn't work anyways! That's seriously my only complaint, though. It's a lovely place!

For 20+ years love this place and the always perfect coffee. Today's everything bagel and avocado were perfect, especially the toasted bagel. Here has most local feel of any place. I like they promote sustainable products. I was disappointed most of the customers had one use cups and straws. No wonder US throws away 500 MILLION straws and 40 million plastic cups EVERY DAY. I mentioned that I didn't want any plastic and liked the reusable mug and basket. But didn't like the throwaway side dish. Maybe customers could be served reusable cups, no straws, and put the avocado on the bagel "unless" the customer asks for separate side cups and ASKS for a straw. At two restaurants who didn't automatically force plastic and straws on customers one had NO straws and other half. There is hope...if customers are given a no waste plastic choice. Thanks

The Black Dog Cafe has a bit of a romantic setting, but in a cozy way. And I love how it's situated near the water. This little cafe is what I would call a treasure of a find. First they are quite quick, well organized and efficient, so if you see a line, don't fret, it moves quickly! Now the important stuff - the food! Yes absolutely amazing & delicious! Cinnamon rolls, banana bread, croissants, bagels, and many other breakfast and sweet items, as well as a variety of coffee, single origin, and other drinks. And there are even coffee mugs, t-shirts and other little gifts you can buy. An amazing place with a friendly, cozy atmosphere. Highly recommend a visit and then a beautiful walk around the little lake area. Enjoy! 🦆 🦆
