(*Crown*) Jewel of the South! Among my favorite restaurants of all time. The cocktails are exquisite and the unique cuisine delights all of the senses. Whether it is for a feast to celebrate a wedding anniversary or grabbing a drink with an old friend, the impeccable service at the Jewel makes every visit a special occasion. Highly recommend.

An absolutely exquisite dining experience. The scallops and oyster dish was delicious, creative, and unique. The wahoo was lovely, bright and delicious. But the dessert was a tremendous stand out. The peaches and cream were a delight. The eccles cake with Stilton bleu cheese was a lovely pairing. In a town of amazing food, Jewel of the South lives up to its name.

This cocktail bar is a gem. The bar itself looks like any other cocktail bar in New Orleans. But the quality is unsurpassed. Their Sazerac simultaneously tastes like any Sazerac in a classic local bar, while transcending it. The good is also very good. Highly recommended.

I am reviewing based on the credibility of the waitstaff. I came in with a few friends we had one round, sitting outside. We tipped based on the pretax amount, I got my credit card statement and the tip was doubled, over $20 over what I originally tipped. I am not going contest it, because the back of the house shouldn’t have to deal with that. But 30%+ percent tip is not mandatory or the norm. It’s earned and I do feel the service deserved that amount. New Orleans has incredible hospitality, that is frequently worthy of that level compensation, but it isn’t here.

Drinks - no notes. The cocktails were fresh, creative, and really solid. The food- skip. To start, charging $95 for a whole snapper is not appropriate. Other dishes were thoughtfully crafted but unremarkable and didn’t feel worth the money.

Jewel of the South is definitely worth trying. The cocktails are exquisite, to say the least. We ordered caviar and were thankful we came on a Wednesday, when they have happy hour on it! The service was okay. I really wished our server was a bit more knowledgeable, but I understand they have only been there for a month. Another thing I noticed was the lack of teamwork among the servers. There were times when one server would only tend to their tables and vice versa. In my experience at other restaurants, servers usually help each other out to provide better service to the patrons and support their fellow team members. I also noticed that the other server was training someone but didn't introduce the trainee to the table she was serving. The customer had to inquire about the trainee, and only then did the server introduce her. The atmosphere is fairly small inside, with limited space. The outdoor area is spacious but can get hot. Overall, the caviar and the drinks we had were delicious!

Many top cocktail enthusiasts believe Chris Hannah is the best bartender in the US. That's reason enough to go to Jewel; but, it certainly doesn't stop there. By now everyone knows about the James Beard award for best bar program; but, the particular master touches to adjust familiar recipes show a deftness that is particularly noteworthy. A Sazerac made with madeira provides length and complexity without defying the classic taste. The Sword Lily trades in the expected sharpness of citrus in a margarita-esque cocktail by pairing more deeply with the vegetal undertones of the tequila along with a sweet punch of bright mango through a housemade "mango bell pepper cordial." Both bartenders provided consistent balance and muted volume even with sometimes outlandish ingredients. The food is just as impressive. Beautiful vegetables steal the show, as large plates include different treatments of cucumbers, turnips, carrots and more. The dishes are very approachable and shareable. Finally, and most impressive, the staff exudes hospitality and cohesion. It is clear that this is a finely trained team that enjoys working together. Each team member had advice on pairings and menu items worth listening to. We left feeling the level of collaboration, attention to the customer and knowledge of product was superior. This is a special place which is worth the splurge.

Came here for date night. We got seated at a really nice corner table in the courtyard, so we got to overlook everything and really soak in the cool atmosphere. There were cute string lights and the music totally set a dope vibe. Our server was extremely knowledgeable and helpful in our first time here. We drank their cheapest Rosé, which I realy liked and tried two other cocktails which were good. My favorite dish was the blue crab with corn and shishito (unfortunately, not pictured because I was too busy eating it). We also ordered the duck necks & wagyu tongue. The necks were okay, just a bit hard to eat because they're so little. The tongue was my least favorite...it was just too rare for me. Lastly, we tried this yummy strawberry dessert. It was delicious!!

Edit: visited again. Cocktails were better than I remembered and the kitchen seemed to take my advice and add some hot proteins to the menu. Patio was delightful. Menu is kinda intimidating and even after trying a couple different dishes still left feeling hungry/unsatisfied. Menu didn't have a fastball pitch that it desperately needed. Menu could've been rounded out with a solid entree item, a classic hot protein, rather than just an overwhelming assortment of various types of English inspired offal (haggis black pudding pate foie gras, etc) and a couple vegetables. Cocktails were good and service was better.

Most “Best Bars in New Orleans” lists include Jewel of The South and the hype is real. It’s worth visiting, not just for drinks, but for food too. On a Saturday night in April, my mother-in-law and I walked in around 9 p.m. without a reservation. After waiting for around 20 minutes, we got seats at the bar. Her liking more stuff drinks, led her to order the Night Tripper. Mixed with bourbon, she’s a fan. Enjoying more sweet and sour drinks, I ordered the Harlequin per the bartender’s recommendation. It was refreshing! For my second drink, the bartender steered me toward Feast of Avalon. A complex drink, it drank smooth- and excellent cocktail! Cocktails are between $14-$17 per drink. The space is beautiful with a small bar, dining areas, and an outdoor courtyard. The restrooms are beautiful as well. Service is top notch balancing friendliness with letting you have your space.

I was really excited to come here for my birthday dinner. I saw the ratings and was more then ready for an amazing meal. I sat outside since it was a nice night for it. I was immediately met with mosquitos. Maybe some sort of bug deterrent would be good for outside. Cocktails were okay but not mind-blowing and everything tastes like something I've had before. Food was a real let down. Part of my fois gras was frozen. So while it tasted amazing the frozen spots were off putting. The crab and scallop raviolo was a mess of textures. I found a bunch of shell in it and ended up sending it back. They took it off my bill which was nice. Best part about the meal was the nutmeg custard. That truly stood out and I would order it again.

Note: If you are looking for a raucous bar that serves hurricanes or hand grenades in gallon jugs shaped like butts or jugs, stop reading. This isn’t your place. While I’m sure the food here is great, this review is only about the cocktails we had and the absolutely chill vibe of the courtyard. Both were exceptional. Easily one of the most creative cocktail lists I can remember seeing. So many unique and unexpected flavor combinations that made no real sense when I read them on paper, but made the most perfect sense when I drank the drinks. Whatever voodoo is going on behind the bar at this place is brilliant. If you want to try something different - even if it’s just a different take on a classic, make the effort to drink here. Then, sit outside in the courtyard and savor it all. You’ll thank me.

My boyfriend brought me here for my birthday, the service was very good! But the food was abysmal, terrible, the worst meal I’ve had in new orleans and my entire life. The only thing that was good was the caviar and they ruined it with hush puppies. Stay away from the waffles they’re absolutely disgusting. Beef and waffles and 2 pounds of cheese don’t mix well. Also they’re “turnips from japan” should stay there. The food was so bad we decided not to order an entree and leave. We just wanted to end our misery. Also the waffles, turnips and hamachi tartare took an entire HOUR! And on top of all that we ended up paying $300. And then went to voodoo chicken and daiquiris and had the best chicken in my entire life. I think the chef needs to reconsider his career choices. He needs to revitalise his palette.

This is what modern southern hospitality cumulated in its highest form looks like! Jewel of the South is - well a true gem! On all individual accounts: food (soulfully rich yet well balanced and exciting all at the same time) 5/5, drinks 5/5 (innovative, tasty, & hits the right spot with shoutout to fun cultural references - actually this applies to food dishes too, lol); and of course, customer service 5/5 where just amazing. So so when you put these factors altogether, Jewel of the South is. Just. Fantastic! Specifically, Kendall & Annie were absolutely wonderful. I’m super grateful to Kendall for her flexibility & letting me schedule a late night dinner [due to work & travel conflicts] + Annie and the kitchen staff really brought meaning into what I call modern southern hospitality. The Jewel of the South team seriously balanced food recommendation + execution (visual & olfactory presentation, timeliness from order to tabling time flavor & texture balance - a lovely richness of creaminess or sauciness or bolder flavors paired with with good acidity, flora (veggie or fruit) or well yet tenderly & moist cooked protein). Annie worked miracles - I confess I came in close to the last ordering time, so we had a quick discussion of my go to food & libation & appetizer size preference & Annie seemed to know me so well even after just an abbreviated food discussion: I went with most of her top recs for me and l. Am. So. Glad. I. Did. I got the Celeraic (creamy yet refreshing + healthy with their take celery root + fun whimsical flora including pickled grapes). It may be Southern cuisine with more decadent takes on meals but chefs at Jewel of the South know how to balance unctuousness with acidity & aromatic alliums (also I virtually loved just seeing that pop of green on my dishes so it’s not a sea of monotonous color- really helps to brighten up & also whet the appetite visually). I also got the snapper with allium & I usually don’t like white fish (my go to is salmon), but this was so well put together (again balance was key)- I would hands-down order it again. And drinks + dessert were just great: I got the gingersnap pina colada (a bolder but well balanced sweet drink w/ strong rum) + Eccles cake (the honey spiced raisins fruit party + stilton cheese was such a lovely pairing of sweet & savory, and coffee w/ brandy cocktail - super smooth with delicate foam that thoughtfully & ergonomically helps minimize spills over the edge + cute yet minimal coffee bean decorations & the glass vessel in came in was just perfect - it was an easy to hold mini-v glass since I detest martini glasses that spill easily. The only thing I wouldn’t order again is the Parkin - mind u, it’s not bad - just not a home run & to be fair this one’s on me: Annie had recommended Eccles based on my preferences I shared but I thought Parkin also sounded cool & had to try it out. (Btw, did I mention food & drinks came out relatively fast while looking & tasting spot on?! This is really not an easy feat so huge Kudos to JotS!) So to recap: if u want a solid, well-balanced dining & drinking experience in NOLA, I would hands down recommend this place!

We also had a salted fish dip that was hard not to eat every bite myself instead of sharing. We sat in the back patio and while not anything special was very comfy and great for our large group. Overall this was one of the best places we tried and it beat the pants off several of the more touristy locations.

The drinks were fine. The food was fussy and minimalist. I ordered the wagyu and received the equivalent of a cold cut on toast with spreadable cheese.

If you want a really great cocktail in the Quarter, come here. My husband and I have been fortunate enough to come to Jewel twice. They always have great cocktails that are always changing. The bartenders are clearly talented and do a great job. We have also enjoyed some small snacks as well. A wonderful spot for a cocktail. We look forward to coming again on our next trip. And for being one of the Top 50 bars in the world and winning the awards they have, the prices are really low. Take advantage of this!!!!

Service is unmatched in NoLA (team knew every detail of every drink) Drinks on point and the food was an experience. Of course on the expensive side but worth it.

Great sharing plates and creative dishes. Service was top notch. Our server was attentive but not intrusive. The cocktails were great (Brandy Crusta and The Nighttripper were standouts), and the wine list was great and reasonably priced.

We stopped here for a cocktail on a Saturday night, and it was packed. There were no seats at the bar, nor was there a table available, but we were able to grab a drink and sit out front. While waiting, a large party left, so we were able to sit in the courtyard. The cocktails were delicious. The staff were super friendly and professional. The music playing was perfect. It was a whole vibe. I hope to go back for a bite to eat one day.
