My partner and I wanted to do a staycation in Bradenton. We simply wanted to do something simple but fun with our baby girl. We booked a room and made reservations for Michael John's restaurant. I had Googled 5 star restaurants, and this pulled up on the second on the list but had more reviews than the first on the list. We had a later reservation (past our baby's bedtime) because they were booked, but I did not want to miss the opportunity. Pulling up to the restaurant, it was well lit. It was actually not as spacious inside, which led me to know it is more of a private setting. The service was good. My mocktail was good, and the food was great. We will certainly come back another time.

I cannot recommend this place. This is not a $250+ quality dinner or service for 2 people. First, they didnt have my reservation, but at 5:30 no one was there. It says it's a "French-American..." and out of approx 100btls of wine, they had ONE french wine (approx$65); 90% california wines, several Italian?wines. 1 app, split a cesaer salad that tasted like mayonnaise, ribeye was disappointing but cooked right, beef tips were tender and cooked right but over all too salty dish, on top of a pile of mashed and veggies not really cooked properly on top. 2 servers and we had to ask for water refills, they poured first glass of wine only. 2 solid hours as other tables came and we waited for our main meal. Weirdly not upscale except in price. Was looking forward to it, my son just moved next door.

Loved this place! The waiters and waitresses were spot on..The food was superb, and the atmosphere was great. Only one small problem. It was our anniversary and my daughter called ahead and ordered and paid for a bottle of wine to be at the table when we arrived for a surprise. Well it was not there and we knew nothing about it until we were paying our bill. Although they ruined our daughters surprise they did make good on the bottle we had ordered! We will definitely be back. This is a wonderful restaurant

Fantastic food, great menu and specials differ nightly!

We’ve been going here for over 10 years now, and this continues to be our favorite nearby restaurant. The duck is one of my favorite entrees, but everything on the menu is excellent. Their consistency and professional service never disappoints.

Drove about 30 minutes because we heard great things about the restaurant. Upon entry no one was at the front bar or the host stand to greet me. My party, another 2 people, were still about 10 minutes away. The table was ready, I decided to wait at the second bar and have a cocktail. The cocktail was made correctly. The menu did not have several selections for steaks, they had two or three different cuts and one on the specials menu. We enjoyed the Calamari The Dirty Caesar romaine lettuce was a bit brown and old, however honestly tasted great. I had my steak wrapped to go I had two bites and could not eat anymore, I don't think it was prime rated, more like select. I was surprised no one asked me if something was wrong. I rarely speak up. Front server rushed us and forget that we were having a salad course. We were able to inform him before it was too late because he brought steak knives instead of salad forks to the table. We ordered a bottle of wine and a wine key had to be "found". I would go back again. The rating was a bit high for the lack of service, maybe they were having a bad night.

We are locals and for some reason have never been to Michael John's before. Wow! We were missing an amazing dining experience! The service was stellar and refined, the drinks were hand crafted and unique, and the every dish was out of this world! The restaurant was clean and fresh and everyone we encountered was friendly and customer focused. We tried several appetizers, especially the baked brie was melt in your mouth delicious! I had the Le Cordon Bleu which was cooked to perfection and my husband had a beautiful Filet. The vegetable sides perfectly complimented the plate and were extremely fresh. For dessert we split a chocolate flourless cake that was so decadent and our friends enjoyed the creme brulee. We will absolutely be back again to explore the menu!

This was hands down one of the best experiences I have ever had dining out. I wish we lived in the area so that we can frequent this beautiful establishment. The calamari is the best we have ever had and I am still thinking about the dry aged ribeye that melted in our mouths. The staff was not only knowledgeable but they were extremely courteous and took great care of us. The decor was classy without being pretentious and I loved how clean the bathrooms were. Even during a very busy Saturday evening dinner service. We will be sure to find a way to visit again in the near future!

The best! We went for our anniversary. Everything was top notch. The atmosphere, the intimacy, the service and food all were amazing. The price was to be expected for fine dining. The staff was knowledgeable and answered questions. The food was beyond delicious. We stayed a while longer chatting and we weren't pressured to leave. We ordered dessert and a latte both were great. Love love love. We will be back

We have eaten at MJ's quite a few times although tonight was truly mediocre. We were seated next to the bar and it was incredibly noisy. It's season and I understand that, not a big deal. On the other hand, not what we would expect for a $200+ evening. The truly disappointing part was the food. I ordered an 8 oz filet for just shy of $60 and it was very disappointing. It was very thin and in almost 2 parts, see the picture. Where the two sections came together was filled with fat and gistle, inedible and chewy. Next time we'll just head over to Capital Grill, Flemings, or Hyde Park. Totally different league than what we experienced this evening. Too bad.

What a nice hidden gem for Bradenton! Since moving out to rural southern Hillsborough County, we have longed for a higher-end restaurant experience. Our daughter turned us on to MJ's and, with high hopes, we set off to find this rather non-descript exterior tucked next to a convenience store just off SR64. Don’t let the exterior fool you. Inside, the food, service and ambiance exceeded our every expectation. Five of us sampled six different menu offerings and all of us were struck by the complex flavors a good kitchen can produce. A clearly well-experienced server, Mattie was knowledgeable about the entire menu, attentive to our needs -- but not to a fault -- and allowed us to proceed at our own pace. Can’t wait to return and try some more dishes!

Fair to say, MJ's is a wonderful, local restaurant. When I travel I refuse the normal, chain establishments dining. Glad to come across Michael John's. From my (was early) reservation, we got to a table. Sat down with kind hospitality. Jennifer took us in, served us and was diligent throughout. Without being rushed. I was excited about the whole experience. From my pear martini and Romaine Wedge, calamari appetizer, perfectly cooked liver & onions (rare to restaurant find) and the night's special apple dessert. Only sad I have to wait another year to FL return. To visit MJ's. Even the bathroom was neatly cleaned. :) I get every person might not experience what I did. But, a 2nd shot would be wise. It truly was a remarkable late night dining experience. Even when my parents would normally be in bed... LOL THANKS Michael John's. See you in 2025!

Several birthday groups. Got loud. Food, as always, the stars of the show. Drinks were very good. Smoked Old Fashioned was a treat. Pricey evening but worth it for our special occasion. Thank you.

This hidden gem restaurant prepares authentic recipes using quality ingredients. The French Onion Soup consists of a veal base, onions carmalized in brandy and topped with grier cheese. Liver and Onions is a speciality that is sure to please your taste buds. Medium is highly recommended. Chicken Marsala offers moist, tender chicken over whipped potatoes and fresh vegetables. Treat yourself to the Flourless Chocolate Cake topped with fresh raspberries!

I give this a 10/10 the food was delicious so was the service. We loved it. Liz was my server. i got the moscatto & my partner got the filet migon burger & I got the filet migon with mash patatoes & brocilli. He got the double shot of henessy. & we got the pinapple upside down cake for dessert. Great vibes great misic great food great memories. Loved it. Thank you.

This was our second visit to the restaruant . I ordered the cheeseburger and fries recommend by my grandson. It was huge and delicious. My wife ordered the chicken sandwich and fries and she found it to be excellent. The fries were the best we have had, crispy and delicious. We alway ask for Madison when making our reservations. Thank you Madison for a delightful experiience.

I wish this was located in Orlando, Fl. Me and my husband would be here very often. My husband has never given a 10 /10 to a restaurant until today. He loved the filet mignon with blue cheese burger and I loved my salmon stuffed with crab meat. We also had crab cakes and blackened shrimp ;top tier. They had this warm apple stuffed in a pastry with ice cream on top on their special menu. The best! All in all, it was an excellent experience and we would definitely recommend it.

Came here to celebrate a friend's 40th birthday. Had a reservation and the host was looking down at his iPad for several minutes prior to greeting us. It was odd. Our serve Maddie was basic but nice - didn't make any recommendations on the menu, struggled to open our bottle of champagne but was attentive and kind. The lobster risotto was delicious. The tomato and gorgonzola soup was so sweet I had to send it back. Maddie said the chef "does a lot of things differently". The dirty Caesar had lots of brown lettuce and was WAY too salty. My friend enjoyed her Chicken Cordon Bleu. When we received the bill, our bottle of champagne costed $192!!!! (Retail is $60 in a store). On the website it is advertised on the wine menu for $120 (still ridiculous but I knew this going in). Good thing I checked the bill or they would have had me for am additional $72. Maddie corrected it but made me second guess all of the charges. Overall it was an "ok" experience but not exceptional.

We had a lovely dinner this evening. Staff were welcoming and friendly. We had the rib eye and crab cakes and had enough to take home. Very quiet, romantic atmosphere. We had the MJ margarita which was delicious and my husband had a whiskey. Definitely will be going back. They have expanded and we are looking forward to going back and hanging out at the new side of restaurant.

Came in this evening and had a very nice evening. Great food absolutely no complaints about anything. Jennifer our waitress was phenomenal! We live super close to this restaurant and happy about it we will definitely be back.

Great food, amazing service, big portions, perfect atmosphere.

A cozy, warm, and romantic place to dine. Our server brought over complimentary bread and butter along with some sort of bean broth. Butter was subpar. We ordered an 8oz filet and the duck. The filet was extremely garlicky, which seemed to be more of a traditional way of making it. It was cooked to perfection. The duck tasted like Costco chicken at some points, but the raspberry sauce was a wonderful addition.

First time at MJs after reading allot of good things and didn’t disappoint great food, apps ans mains where great and service just right and well timed between courses good bourbon selection so perfect evening

This is one of our favorite go to spots, whether a quick bite or special occasion celebration. You won’t be disappointed by the food, and the amuse-bouche (bite size appetizer) is always delectable! Pictured is my favorite salad- Bartlett Pear & Goat Cheese with my favorite cocktail- Pear Martini. Service can be a little slow at times depending how busy they are, but it is worth the wait. Acoustics can be a little loud too when packed, so be forth told should you be seeking a romantic dinner for two.

The duck was absolutely fantastic. The lobster pasta was delicious as well as one of the specials for the night we went. This has got to be one of the best restaurants in Bradenton. Been wanting to go here for years and finally made it happen. The service was great but there were some cacklers in there which pushed the noice volume through the roof. Was not quiet and intimate. The food was JUST ok. My husband got a steak and honestly, he makes one better on the grill. If it’s been on your bucket list, give it a go. If not, search elsewhere.

Whatever you see on their menu on Google doesn't exist doesn't exist at the restaurant and when you call it sounds like a bunch of idiots who came and explain to you the menu for a restaurant that you're going to spend $300 for dinner for so my recommendation is do not go there not go there if they can't talk on the phone and explain it how they going to explain it to you when they cook it you might as well get your money and throw it in the garbage can

For the price you would think you are in fine dining. This was not the case for us. 2 feet away from the bar and kitchen, 3 feet away from a table of 10+ celebrating a birthday, and the staff obviously shorthanded. We were put in a room that seemed like an "overflow" room even though we had made a reservation literally weeks in advance. The specials were OK but the caprese salad was advertised as having basil and came with a little squirt of pesto on it which is not what goes on a caprese salad. They did refund it though so that was nice as we didn't eat it. The baked brie was good. The rest was overpriced for the food/atmosphere/experience. A meal for two with two drinks and tip was over $170. I made this reservation for a 7 year anniversary and likely won't come back based on the prices and mostly the atmosphere/experience. Nobody wants to spend their anniversary listening to the kitchen/bar and another table 3 feet away celebrating a birthday with 10+ people. It overall was disappointing. For the price I recommend going to Flemings or Connors.

Wife’s steak great… mine , rib eye disappointment…little tuff, not much flavor. Sent plates back first thing as whipped potatoes cold. Dessert and sides excellent Server lost to big table near us. Would have sent steak back could I got his attention Atmosphere lovely.

MJ's is the best of Fine dining. The food is delicious, the service friendly and the atmosphere relaxed. All in all MJ's rates 10 out of 10!

Overall I expected better for the price. I want to start off by saying that the service was excellent. Waters at the table before we sat down, our dishes promptly removed as we finished eating, and overall just a friendly staff that makes for a pleasant atmosphere. However, the rest of the experience fell flat. I ordered a manhattan over rocks and was surprised when it arrived with crushed ice... not a huge deal, though, as you may expect it watered my drink down quickly so the window to enjoy the spirit was limited. Then our food came, I ordered the Shrimp Scampi Pasta. The paramasan cream sauce was not what I was expecting... it was light, but not a super creamy sauce I was hoping for and had an overall acidic taste to every bite. I think the lemon really over powered the sauce. It was still good enough to eat, it just wasn't my favorite. The real problem then lies with the shrimp... they were over cooked and chewy. I eat a lot of shrimp at home and away, and you shouldn't struggle to put a fork through it. My wife ordered the chicken marsala, which we both found to be quite good. For two of us, two entrees and a drink each ordering on the cheaper side of the menu the total was $120 with tip. I've had better considering the price in the area. The staff and chicken marsala saved this review from a 1 star, as both of the items I ordered were unpleasant.

My husband and I went to celebrate our 1st Year anniversary and went on a Tuesday which was not really busy.our waiter was Jennifer which was very pleasant and attentive she made sure we were ok with our drinks while we waited for our dinner.we ordered the Brie with the raspberry with some honey,sweet pecans and bread as an appetizer which we enjoyed very much. My order was the filet minion medium with Au gratin potatoes and veggies added blackened shrimp. All so yummy and steak was just right. My husband had the chicken cordon bleu with same sides. We both agreed to giving it a good rating and will definitely come back.

Prices are a little high but you get what you pay for!

Had a wonderful dinner with my husband. Everything was prepared to perfection! Sad to see a poor review from someone tonight just because highchairs weren't available. My suggestion to them would be to purchase a portable highchair or boosterseat. They are relatively inexpensive now days and will afford you the ability to actually stay for dinner rather than immediately leaving and posting petty reviews. Love Michael John's, their staff and food. Highly recommended. Definitely a Bradenton treasure!

Came in with a reservation for 2 people at 5:30 and was told not only did they not have our reservation but they had no space for 2 people to eat. There was a total of 19 cars in the parking lot which would have included employees since you can see there is no parking behind the building. Would not try to eat here again.

Room was a bit warm due to AC issues. Everything else was spectacular!

Malios, Morton's, Ruth Chris...these are all the steakhouses we have been to within the past month. All provide a high chair... this place does not. Kids are not welcome lol

If you have kids it's a no go. Just a heads up there's no high chairs.

We couldn't get reservations for Bern's in Tampa so i started checking around and MJs popped up. It was a bit of a drive since we live in St Petersburg but totally worth it! This was the first time at MJs Steakhouse and it's definitely a hidden gem in Bradenton, Fl just off I75 and SR 64. One of the best steakhouses, my wife and i have visited. We arrived early so we sat at the bar where, we both enjoyed a French 75 cocktail. Once our table was ready, we were seated promptly. Our waitress started us off with a fantastic salmon and tomato bisque first course. If this soup was going to be representative of our meal, we knew we had come to the right place! Next, we ordered the fried calamari. This calamari not only had delicious banana peppers but also a side of marinara. We easily finished off this appetizer. Next we split a cup of MJs French Onion soup. It had a hint of sweetness which was a pleasant surprise, along with some bread to dip. For dinner, my wife ordered the sirloin tips and i had the Delmonico ribeye. Both came with a side of mashed potatoes, carrots, and broccoli. I ordered a side of MJs demi glace sauce for my steak which was out of this world rich and a perfect side to any cut of beef! Finally, for dessert, we opted for the gooey butter cake with a scoop of vanilla ice cream on top....wow...so good! I don't know if this was only a special for this weekend but if you get the chance to order it, don't hesitate! We will definitely return to MJs. This is the perfect place to celebrate a special occasion! The food, drinks and service were all top notch. Kudos to the chef and his staff!!

OMG simply no words, everything was flawless. I had the Filet Pinot, and my wife had the Shrimp Scampi Pasta. Divine...

Terrible experience. I made reservations for our anniversary with "special accommodations" over a month in advance asking for a quiet table for a romantic dinner. What we received was a over-crowded, extremely loud room with no acknowledgement of the special occasion. The atmosphere here is tacky and poorly done. There was no host to greet us, we waited 30 minutes at the bar before we were seated late to our "reserved table." Spent a total of almost 3 hours at this restaurant not out of enjoyment to stay but because it takes 30 minutes for each dish to come out from drinks to appetizers to entrees and wait forever for the bill. The food was very bland, the cocktails really missed the mark of what basic cocktails are. Everything about our experience was honestly just terrible. This restaurant attempts the appearance of fine dining and charges as so, but is comparable to Applebee's.

I went for my birthday & I absolutely loved this place! The food was amazing! We had the chicken Marsala & the Ribeye & the Dirty Caesar for a starter. Ambiance was so nice & cozy. Lovely inside & beautiful outside with the lights. Highly recommend!

Food was fantastic. Honey baked brie as an app was really good. Redfish special was cooked perfect. Service was a bit slow.

I have reviewed and eaten at the most expensive and top rated restaurants in all of Manatee and Sarasota County. I've been a resident of Manatee County for 45 years. . In my opinion the top restaurant of manatee county! I hesitated to leave this review because I want to keep this restaurant a secret. It is just that good! Once the word gets out you won't be able to get a reservation and the staff will be overworked. Let me begin by making note that you have to get reservations early. I reserved our table two days in advance. The only reservations available were 5:15 and 7:45. I chose 5:15. The atmosphere of the restaurant was quiet candle lit very soft decorations. Light music playing in the background and a whimsical full size wooden carving of The Blues Brothers. I believe the theme of the French inspired Steakhouse was sort of a mafioso or an Italian Club. The wait staff was very helpful but not intrusive. Professional and very attentive to our needs. We began our meal with a complimentary cup of mango carrot bisque followed by wedge salad with crumbled bacon Gorgonzola heirloom tomatoes and a beautifully balanced house dressing. My son selected a dirty Caesar salad which was a little spicy, just the way he likes salad. We also enjoyed the fried calamari served with marinara and a secret sauce. We shared a bowl of French onion soup. The smoked mozzarella tasted like the chef just took it off the grill. Wonderful flavor perfectly balanced , served with baguette toast. Our main course- Delmonico ribeye, served with whipped potatoes, broccolini and carrots. When the steak arrived it had a beautiful bark perfectly cooked medium rare finished with a lovely light herb butter. When paired with the sauteed mushrooms it melted in your mouth! While making my reservations I told them it was my son's birthday. They took the time to melt chocolate happy birthday on a plate freeze it. For dessert we ordered a molten chocolate lava cake artfully placed on the happy birthday plate with a candle lit. If I could give this restaurant 10 Stars, I would. When you want a special place to go give Michael John's a try. This is the one!. And I am always free for dinner...lol
