This is vintage AMI and the food is excellent! The staff move lots of tables swiftly still you don't feel rushed. They do a fantastic carryout as well!

This is a seafood place, so keep that in mind if you order anything else. 😉 My husband loved his snapper with a banana on top!! Plus we saw dolphins!

Ordered a burger and a shrimp sandwich. Burger wasn’t bad, my husband got the shrimp sandwich and wasn’t sure it was shrimp. Ended up not eating it and leaving. Super super cute spot though with great fishing.

Great view from this place but they are an extremely small establishment and not family/baby friendly. The waitress was not nice at first but after she brought our drinks I think her switch flipped and suddenly she was trying her hardest to be nice. Probably realized she was being rude and should start being nicer. Pancakes appear to be great- large and fluffy but they were dense and dry. The two egg breakfast and biscuit and french toast were much better options than the pancakes

Beautiful sunset while enjoying fantastic food! Our waitress was friendly and did a fantastic job-we even witnessed a proposal on the pier during sunset as well as about 6 manatees playfully swimming around under the pier. The scallops were great!

Good food, and service with a view

The atmosphere was the best part about the restaurant. We were fortunate enough to get a corner seats with fantastic views of the Manatee river going into the gulf. The food was just OK and disappointed with the prices of the food versus the quality. The burger was about the same quality you would get in a cafeteria, and the grouper salad was amazingly portioned however, the salad part could’ve been better. The drinks were reasonably priced and I would’ve enjoyed a second if the waiter had came around and asked me if I wanted one. This restaurant is worth a visit based off the atmosphere and the food being OK, and I would visit again.

I was pleasantly surprised by how good the food was at The Rod and Reel Pier Restaurant. Considering it's a pier, I expected the food to be below average, but it was actually fresh and delicious. The experience overall was really enjoyable, with a nice atmosphere and great views. If you're in the area, it's definitely worth a visit!

I can only speak to their breakfast, but it was simple yet wonderful. This is also a great location in the morning for wildlife viewing. Service was great, food came out quickly, and we enjoyed it very much. Lovely on the off-season to be able to get a seat right away!

If i could give it 0 stars i would, me and my husband are spanish speakers for starters and wanted to check out the area as it did have a pretty view and walking into the bar checking the menus speaking in spanish the first thing we were met with was judging eyes and snide comments “get them out”. We aren’t uneducated like the patrons in the bar, we respectfully said hello and spoke quietly between us before they let their ugliness slip out.What really got me was the bartender laughing i wish i got her name so it can be publicly online that she was nasty with guest who had less then 5 minutes there. Get who out if i’m a native floridian. Disappointed truly, a pretty view and disgusting ugly rotten inside.

Went with family. We started with a crab cake appetizer. It was more like a stuffing cake. We couldn’t find any crab in it, and there were 3 of them on the table. I then ordered the fried grouper and my wife ordered the scallops. The grouper was obviously frozen and dry and the “scallops” were anything but, more like stingray nuggets. This lovely dinner cost $106. It was our worst dining experience on AMI. Do yourself a favor and avoid!

Very busy place. So cool to see the dolphin while eating on the deck. The gumbo and blackened shrimp salad are amazing. Also the kids chicken wings, tenders and fries were all wonderful. The service was as good as it could be given how busy it was. I will definitely keep going back

#1 best place on AMI. Somehow my husband and I end up here each day, whether it be for a great breakfast watching dolphins from above or a fish sandwich and fries for lunch or just a draft beer as we sit in the pier watching the pelicans fish. It is island therapy for sure.

We showed up at 815 and their posted closing time was 9pm. They said it would be about a 45 minute wait, but that they would be happy to accommodate our group of 7. Small little place, nothing fancy, but the people were very nice and the food was great. I enjoyed a grouper Reuben which was unique and delicious. Very friendly and helpful staff. Would dine here again!

Terrible TOURIST TRAP! We ordered the shrimp skewer appetizer and was ok, but pricey! It was almost $18 for approximately 8 shrimp, but that wasn't even the worst part. The star of our nightmare was the garlic grouper plate. It was the most tasteless, plain, and boring dish ever. We had seasoned rice and fries as sides, and the fries ended up being the best part of the meal. I had to basically season the food myself with salt and lemon because it was that bad. The surprise when we got the check - the MKT price for the grouper was $45!!!! I left in shock for spending $70 on such mediocre food and establishment. I guess it was my fault for not asking the price beforehand, but you would expect a reasonable price for sea food when you're right at the beach and especially on a little simple restaurant. Or, you would at least expect the food to taste good, but not the case. It was really the worst, most expensive (with no justification for the price) food we've had here in AMI. You can get a better view, better place, and waaay better food at a fair price on AMI Oyster Bar at the Pier. Other than that, the service was good and the place was small and I guess cute, but definitely not worth it. DO NOT GO THERE!

I have been here before and the grouper is really good but ridiculously overpriced!! Also tried to go again and sit outside with my dog and was told l had to leave?! I mean C'mon folks it's a wooden Pier on the water and we were sitting outside!! I can only imagine how much business they have lost from not being dog friendly!! STUPID

I expected better crab cakes. Theirs seemed like the ones you’d buy at the store and pop in the oven. Other than that, service was good, cool atmosphere on the pier.

A great place at the end of the pier. A little crammed inside but they make it work. We tried the combo basket, grouper sandwich and fish and chips. Everything was great and cooked well. Was really looking forward to a nice fried seafood basket and they delivered. The portions were generous and loved every bite! The basket came with a nice pile of fried clams too. The shrimp were nice a plump as well. Love the fact that we were eating with a view of the water. We also learned our waiter did competitive eating back in the day. I finished my daughter’s fish and chips but I’m sure he could’ve taken down all our plates. I’d go a little earlier to get a good seat.

My son was in town, so we decided to check out this waterfront restaurant. It's on a fishing pier, so it's over the water. The vibe is uber casual, to the extent that our waiter was wearing a sleeveless, wife beater style shirt. We ordered a pitcher of beer, which at $10 translated into $2 per beer, which was a great deal. We started with an onion rings appetizer, which were good but not really enough for 3 people. My son and I both ordered grouper sandwiches, mine grilled, and his fried. Both were super fresh and delicious. My wife ordered the scallops and she said they were great. It's a chill place to eat fresh seafood and catch a sunset.

I was so excited to try Rod and Reel, but I was so disappointed. They have such a limited menu for food and drinks. It is a small restaurant, from what I could tell, so maybe that’s why, I’m not sure. I got the grilled chicken sandwich, which didn’t have much flavor, but it was juicy. The cole slaw wasn’t bad, but again, not a lot of flavor. My husband got the fried shrimp and he said it was good! We also got the key lime pie, and it was just okay. Definitely overpriced for the size. I think there was more whipped cream than pie, which also had a funny taste. View of the sunset was nice. We decided it was a one and done for us. We won’t be back to Rod and Reel.

Great little pier for fishing or sunset watching.

Went for breakfast with my wife on our anniversary and we would go back again. Be aware, the restaurant is on the second level of the pier and there is no elevator. They offer inside or outside seating. The inside seating puts you closer to the open water and has lots of windows that you can open. Food was good and pancakes were huge. I ordered my meal and got two pancakes on the side thinking they were small. I definitely only needed one. We had a good breakfast with a nice atmosphere and views. It was very relaxing.

What a great place to visit! Lots of people fishing off the dock! The food was great and so was the service! Will definitely be back on our next visit!

Food was delicious! Grouper sandwich was awesome. We had a very long wait to be seated, but it was crowded and busy when we arrived. We ended up getting the food to go but it was delicious.

I really want to give this place 5 stars because the food is so good but service was only OK and due to all the people fishing, the atmosphere was...interesting. Despite that, best Grouper Sandwich I have ever had. So fresh tasting. Fries were really good too. Cheap and cold beer. Always have fresh seafood specials. Mahi Mahi was cooked perfectly. The chicken breast dinner was perfect for my 2 protein loving teens.

This place is very unique but my granddaughter can't have Soy anything we talked to the waitress and she was very helpful to check on stuff but that didn't work in the kitchen because she had to use a epi pen because she started to have her reactions but everything else was good.

4 of us went to dinner and I was the happiest. I ordered the Ahi, and it was delicious. Perfectly seared to medium rare. The other 3 fingers were less impressive. The fish and chips were "more breading than fish" and mom's crab cakes were good, but not alot of flavor. We would go back. It's certainly worthy of a second chance, and the views are incredible.

Awesome place out on the pier to eat breakfast and watch the dolphins play. Hot the seafood omelet and OMG was it good!!!!! Can't wait till next year's vacation to eat here again!!!

For a local feel this is your place. Beautiful ocean views. If your lucky and go in the evening you might see dolphins. Not wheelchair accessible.

Ok this place surprised us. The food, especially the fish and chips, was outstanding. The seasoning and the way they deep fried it was perfection. The Rod and Reel doesn't seem like much but you have to go. The drinks are very affordable, the food was great, and the view was spectacular. Not sure there is a better place to watch the sunset while eating dinner on the top deck (except maybe the Sandbar (but our experience was not as good there)). Go, and go early, because the wait can build very quickly and you don't want to miss the sunset.

Poor customer service. Very slow!! Food is okay, disappointed I didn't save my money and cook myself. Will never go back or recommend to others.

We (fam &I) tried to eat here two times during our stay and whoever the person who supposed to seat us just couldn’t seem to get her head removed from her deriare to seat 6 of us and wouldn’t allow us to take one menu down the stairs for more fam to look at-just to get out of the way!!! NEVER again-as long as she is employed there.!!

We got there around 1:00 and that was perfect on timing. It started getting crowded. It is not a large place. You can eat inside and out. People are fishing. We saw a manatee.

Cool spot, but the food was simply not good. Hamburger looked like it sat in the window for hours. It was dry and over done. Crabcakes had zero taste. Honestly there are way better restaurants on the island to spend $100.

We visited Ana Maria Island, what was supposed to have been for the week but weather conditions made my mother and I leave Tuesday. Our first night on the island, we visited The Rod and Reel. We read all the reviews on it, which were positive and ensuring. We didn't wait long to be seated and we chose to eat outside on the deck so we could see the ocean and sunset. I ordered a fried grouper sandwhich, which I have not had since I was a kid. Mom had the fish n chips. Both dishes looked good and I couldn't wait to dive into that grouper sandwhich. Boy was I disappointed. There was no seasoning, the grouper tasted bland, off. Mom said her fish tasted weird too. I do not know how much the fish n chips were, but my sandwhich was 28 bucks, it did not taste like a 28 dollar dish. I tasted the grouper without the breading and discovered that it was the breading that was the issue. The grouper itself was still bland. There were no seasonings added to the fish before or after breading. I left there thinking, a McDonalds Filet O Fish tastes way better....and it does. So if you are thinking of eating at The Rod n Reel, keep this review in mind. Save yourself 20 dollars and get an 8 dollar Filet O Fish from McDonalds.

Little shack-like restaurant at the end of a pier. Just stopped in for beers and a couple appetizers. They have the dive bar usuals: cold beer, handhelds, etc. They have a decent gumbo. It was hotter than hades in there. Been there once. No need to return.

What a pleasant surprise we stumbled upon here. 2.50 drafts and say on the pier watching locals fish. Saw dolphins jumping. We returned a few times throughout our stay. Highly recommend.

Very crowded, we had a party of 7, so it's always a little hard to get a table when it's dinner time. We had about an hour wait. Wow, it was so worth it, I had a cup of the best seafood chowder ever and crab cakes. Every person in our group loved their food. A must go to on the island.

Get several orders of the fried clam appetizer!! They melt in your mouth. The place definitely isn't fancy, but the views are spectacular.

When we got there, they said it would be about a 45-minute wait. They sat us within 10 minutes. My husband got the grouper, and I got the garlic butter amber jack. It was fantastic!

The grilled grouper had no taste, literally was grilled in butter but nothing else. The fried Grouper was very flaky but had no taste, nothing. The fried chicken sandwich was so greasy, I would give the food 2/10. Our bill was $188, I expected more for that price. On the plus side we had a great server!

Came here early in the morning to fish off the pier, and the place is terribly mismanaged. If you know your truck is being delivered do not have two staff there to unload the whole trailer. The two older gentlemen clearly were not morning people, seemed angry and frustrated that they even had to be there. Rude to my family, and they were especially rude to the numerous kids out on the pier just trying to fish. Not a vacation destination that I would recommend for Anna Maria.

This place has changed and not for the better! Dumbed down menu with jacked up prices. Sound tracks are obnoxious and LOUD! Please go back to the way is used to be.

The local spot to fish 🐟.... get there early because it fills up quickly. It's an older pier so it can get tight to move around.

We weren't expecting dinner in a show but we had a wonderful grouper dinner, accompanied by a dolphin and her calf swimming in view.

We had two of their fish specials and they were amazing both in size and flavor! The prices were also great for the size of the meal. Unfortunately we already had eaten about a quarter of the meal before I remember to take a picture! LOL! The grouper we had was a coconut almond coated and the mahi-mahi was spicy almond. Both excellent and twice the size of the fish fillets. You get for the same price at some of the upscale restaurants in the area!

You will only RENT their burger, because you will throw it all up 2 hours later.

One of the only truly local places left on the island. Original. If you don't like it you don't like it that's great. But if you don't like it don't try to change it, it is old school. But if you love atmosphere and you like greasy food and great people you'll love it! Relax and great Scenic area, smile and meet some cool people.

Very relaxed place. There was a wait so we ate at the bar and Christina was great! A lot of people are fishing with their families. Good place to see the sunset.
