I love the food here and have come often with friends and my partner. I’ve frequented the restaurant multiple times a week for months and know some staff by name. I’ve loved dining in regularly up until recently. While finishing up and being handed the check, my partner and I notice we were charged at large party fee, though it was just myself and my partner. We asked a server and were told this was to guarantee tip as it was rumored we would not tip. This is completely untrue and was extremely rude of the server to add an extra miscellaneous charge based off rumors. We weren’t a large party nor have there ever been major problems with service before, but this visit left my partner and I with a bad taste in our mouths. We enjoy the food and being regulars, but we’ll be taking a break from Shima. Most of the staff is pretty friendly, but some weekend staff are quite rude, cold, short, and do not take the time to make your night special the way some do. Nathan is always kind and helpful when we’ve visited. Adding hidden fees and charges to guarantee tip for yourself is shady and as someone who works in food/customer service, I’d never behave the way we were treated last. I know nothing will probably change, but it felt worth it to at least let others know. The food is usually great, some inconsistencies with taste but great most of the time. The atmosphere is cute and Shima is usually playing great music too! But overall customer service has hit an all time low. In this type of setting, multiple servers are present and help out multiple tables at once. So, this setup is very unlike the traditional waiter/waitress server model. You’re usually on your own most of the time besides being asked about drinks and sauce when you first sit, which is also why the added charges felt a bit like overkill :/

I LOVE sushi and Japanese food in general and finally I can say that I have found a place where the sushi is delicious and the prices are not insanely high. I usually order for pick up but yesterday I finally went and had a great experience. This place is great, I definitely recommend it.

Very small place, no where to sit and wait to be seated. You have to wait outside and stand in the hot sun. This place is very overpriced . My bill here was $80 for a table of 3 and all of us ate like 2 pieces of sushi per plate . You’re better off going to a buffet and fill your stomachs up for that price. I even tried ordering off the menu and the chicken was burnt.

We love coming to SHIMA in Miami Gardens, FL!! Make sure to sit at the bar where the little boats pass you by with freshly prepared Sushi. The Sushi is made fresh and right in front of you! And just in case you don’t know what to order, no worries. The little boats will be passing by with different types of Sushi for you to try. Whatever you order, the chef will place an additional plate in the little boat so that others can see and have an opportunity to try! The price is per plate so be careful haha. The servers are super friendly and the restaurant is very clean. Be sure to get there early because it gets really busy!!

Ate here for the first time the other day and I'm only disappointed I didn't know about it sooner!! The rolls were amazing, and they had SO much variety. Everything was such a good price and every single member of the staff was incredibly nice and made sure we had everything we needed. Although we didn't sit by the boats, we were still able to get up and get plates if we wanted to. Pro tip: If you don't mind getting up to get a plate from the boat, and want to skip a wait, make sure to mark that you don't mind sitting away from them. There was a 20+ minute wait when we arrived and since we chose to sit away from the boats we were literally sat immediately.

I didn't get the name of our server in the middle of the boat bar, but she was amazing. I have been going there for about 2+ years and have always been happy. Today halfway through the meal the waiter rushed us and said our limit was almost done (we had another 30 minutes) based on their new 75 min per table rule to finalize out order The waiter forgot to put in my actual order and basically was more concerned with us getting up from the table Overall I just felt like I was rushed out and the service was so poor making me not want to go back.

Worst customer service ever the red hair manager was extremely rude and with a horrible attitude. After I put my name on the paper chart, I was waiting outside for over 1 hour in my car because it was extremely hot outside and there’s no chairs for you to wait. I've been going to Katana on 71st Street Miami Beach for over a decade, so I thought I would give Shima a shot, as it claimed to be a larger space (and thus I imagined there would be less of a wait to be seated, whereas Katana usually runs anywhere from 45 minutes to 1.5 hours to be seated on weekends). While we were seated after only a short 10 minute wait, we quickly realized that the sushi chef at the bar seemed more preoccupied with fulfilling Uber Eats/delivery orders than making sure the sushi boats had a good variety of desirable sushi options going around for the patrons actually IN the restaurant. Hence we spent a significant amount of time just watching the same small selection of items going around in circles, with maybe 60-70% of the boats empty the rest of the time. The waiter kept asking us if we'd like to order something, but to us this entirely defeats the purpose of coming to a conveyor belt sushi type of restaurant. When we did order something, it took a very long time to receive it (and was missing one of the items we ordered). Skip Shima and go to Katana instead. Much better experience, even despite the longer wait times.

I've been coming here for over ten years and while I love the food, I am disappointed that the servers tried to put a LARGE PARTY GRATUITY for a three top. I'm a waitress and I don't like tricking people into a bigger tip. I have always left 20% or higher and I hope people aren't being swindled into tipping 35% or higher because they aren't checking. It's an insidious practice.

If you can't find anything that catches your eye, you can always select from the menu and have it specially prepared. The staff are nice and friendly. This makes it a Perfect place to bring a date or a friend to gobble up plates. Plates are color coded and they come in different prices. Get ready to spend $30 plus depending on how much you eat. The atmosphere was the best thing about my experience and even then, it was sloppy. I gave this review an additional star for the fact my friends enjoyed their meal. I, myself do not eat fish or sushi so I know what I am getting myself into when I go to eat out with friends and family at places where it’s mostly fish so I always make sure to take a look at the menu beforehand so I know what my options are. When we sat down we were immediately greeted which was nice but set a false pretense to our dining experience because after that everything just started slowing down from there. It took about 10 minutes just to get waters for the table, the hot sake was even longer and the third jar we ordered was left in the microwave way too long because we burned our hands grabbing the bottle and then not to mention how nuclear the sake was we burned our mouths taking the first sip. In the meantime, my friends start chowing down on the dishes of sushi coming out of the river boat and I can already foresee I’m going to be the one left at the table eating while everyone is ready to pay up and leave, but I didn’t expect our server to take another 15 minutes to come back so I can at least put an order in, in the chance I would be able to enjoy having dinner with my friends. Bad decision. When the server finally came back and took my order, I explained I don’t eat sushi but I was looking at the menu and asked her opinion between the yakisoba noodles and the okonomiyaki since that was on their specialty menu. She had a tough time helping me decide (maybe she’s new and I’ll chalk it up to that) either way, we came to the order of okonomiyaki. Guys, when I tell you this food took about 40 minutes to come out… I would have appreciated a heads up that this menu item was going to take that long to make because I would have happily ordered something that takes a little less time to make so I can, once again, have dinner with my friends. It was either that the food took long, or (as a server I have also done this in the past) she forgot to put my order in, and then put it in when we followed up about the dish 20 minutes later. Dude, I seriously am not a stickler about food order and time to the table, but this was just beyond ridiculous and embarrassing at this point. More time keeps passing by, and at this point everyone has started slowing down and you could see the food comas starting to set in and they’re ready for the check. At this point, I don’t even want my order and I have lost my appetite, so I tell the waitress to cancel the order AND THEN she says “oh but they’re working on it, it’s going to take about another 10 minutes”. So now not only have I waited an hour for a meal after ordering, but now I am made to feel guilty about accepting and paying for the order. I tell her to put it in a container at this point because I am not going to go back and forth about an order I do not want anymore, because clearly, it’s easier for me to spend money on an order I have no desire for anymore after waiting an hour for my food, than to explain to the server that the entire dining experience and lack of service and wait time was absurd and it should be voided from the check. Dude… when I get this order prepared in a takeout container I am even more disgusted. Thank you for putting all the sauces separately, that I do appreciate… but the appearance of this food when it’s supposed to be like a pancake is chopped up like dog food, this was the topping of the cake. How could an already terrible experience get worse? I might give this place one more try just in the chance it was a bad night, but that’s a fat chance at this point.

I went there Labor Day 2021. Their food is really good, I could say better than their sister restaurant, but the customers in that establishment has a different vibe than the one on the beach. In that aspect the beach is better. I enjoyed the good food, the service was excellent, I just do not appreciate people bringing babies at a restaurant and let them cry and be loud. In that instance there were TWO tables with really loud crying babies, again, that's not the restaurant's fault but kinda ruined my experience dinning there. Hence, the four stars. I may go back and hope not to have crying babies next to me. This type of restaurant is all about the experience, see the floating boats going in circles and get to pick from a variety of rolls and dishes. If I don't care about the experience, then I would get it to go.

Hands down, this place has to be one of the best sushi spots in all of South Florida. I’m no sushi expert by all means, but in my humble opinion, the taste, quality, freshness, variety and price is by all means exceptional! I’ve been to many sushi spots in Dade and Broward areas, some are high-end and others are causal/ “trendy” spots, but nothing beats the value and taste that these sushi rolls have… pretty descent sushi/ sashimi selection and easy on the pocket (although menu prices did increase just like everything else has). Always great service, very casual, very neighborhood friendly and overall good food. I used to live in the same area, now I live in Davie and I still make the drive from time to time to get our fix. I hope they never change and keep doing what they do. Congratulations to the owner, sushi chef and all staff for a job well done!

As a customer that has been coming to this restaurant for many years. Today I experienced something distasteful. I put my name in the list and apparently I was called. I never heard my name being called or anything of the sorts and I was right outside. When I asked they had crossed my name out, and said I had to put my name all the way at the bottom of the list. We asked the receptionist/ manager Sara what happened and if we can be next since we had waited for so long. She blatantly and loudly said NO! And that she had called us while screaming it out loud in front of the restaurant. Sara even got involved two other customers who was waiting inside to agree with her. Sara loudly and dramatically said to the two ladies waiting “didn’t I call them”? The ladies faces were in complete shock. As a customer I was embarrassed at how Sara being the manager and all treated us. She didn’t even try to passively explain to us the situation or find a remedy to fix her mistake. Instead she was very rude, did not make eye contact with us when calling us again a second time. There was an issue where she had let someone else get in front of us and the people that were already waiting. But did Sara say anything to those people that skipped ? No. I can’t believe that they put someone like that to be a manager. One of the first things you do as a manager is learn customer service and how to treat people. Unfortunately this was not the case today as we were treated very coldly. I hope this place has a serious training on customer service and how to treat their customers.

Fresh ingredients, great taste, the ambience is chill, music at a low enough volume to talk to others. Looking forward to my next visit!

DO NOT EAT HERE IF YOU HAVE ALERGIES OR IF YOU'RE VEGETARIAN/VEGAN!!!! Ok. Starting off, the food here is not bad by any means. I personally enjoyed some of the dishes I had there. My boyfriend has a severe allergy to Shellfish and I have a specific allergy to Cabbage. I was asking every 2 seconds to the chef what everything was, for things like Gyoza, they couldn't tell me whether it is vegetable or pork. I wouldn't be hostile at all to this but my friend who had taken us to this establishment asked how they handle the shellfish and the normal fish for me to ease my anxiety. THEY USE THE SAME KNIFE TO HANDLE ALL THEIR FOOD. Vegetables, pork, shellfish and normal fish, all with the same knife. A waiter had told us this casually as if not knowing it was a problem, not the waiter's fault. But the management's response to this was awful, referring us to one tiny sign that told us to "tell them about food allergies we have". It was right next to our table of TEN PEOPLE and NONE of us saw it. Luckily enough they did take away the plates ONLY my boyfriend ate on the bill. If you have no food allergies or diet restrictions to worry about, then you're fine. But if you do, find another establishment. Edit 1/8/23: As of a day of eating the sushi at this restaurant, he did get hives on his hand.

Shima is a neighborhood gem. In my opinion, this restaurant has some of the best sushi in South Florida. I've eaten in the restaurant as well as have ordered it for delivery. The sushi is always fresh. It's also reasonably priced. I love that for the price of one sushi roll in other restaurants, you can come here and get multiple rolls. Instead of a conveyor belt, Shima has revolving boats. You can either pick up sushi from one of the plates coming around or order from the menu. The color of the plates tells you how much each dish is. The restaurant is within a strip mall. It doesn't have a lot of seating. So very often there is a line. Make sure to add your name to the wait list.

The sushi was not good at all. Lacks creativity. Pretty basic rolls, that didn’t taste good. Also the inside feels dirty too. The beer was ice cold so that was at least good.

The food was a little off today, but is usually well done. Service was good. Atmosphere lost a star for having a slew of power strips and extension cords around looking rather messy.

I bought some al pastor burritos today, what a tasteless pod and the burrito more al pastor sauce than meat, what change have they made, could it be that the owner changed? Because about 3 or 4 years
