Went on may 3rd for my son 16th birthday food was ok,loaded tot only had cheese no bbq sauce and no onions, pulled pork had a lot of fat and garlic bread very dry , brisket was good ,table was very sticky the plates stuck to it should have been washed better i tried with a paper towel but it left paper stuck to the table gross,waitresses was super but the food could have been better

We went for dinner last night. The server took our drink and appetizer orders. We received our appetizer fairly quick but didn't get our drinks for another 20 minutes. The salt and pepper shakers didn't work, so I took the lid off to find rust and clogged tops. This was very disappointing, I have always enjoyed Sonny's.

Great service and food. The 3 meat dinner is always good. Bartender is very friendly and helpful.

It's not many places you can get BBQ in Polk County. Sonny's often disappoints. I went through drive thru, and ordered the 3 meat plate. Ordered 2 Saint Louis ribs, which they upcharge, and chicken wings. The first set of ribs were charred. I hate burnt BBQ. So, I sent those back. Asked for ribs with no char ...they sent out more ribs. Once I arrived home, to sit down and ear, they were super dry. Not as much char, but both chicken and ribs were dry as the desert.

Ordered through UberEats, but they only sent half the order. Called the store, but they refused to help.

My granddaughter really enjoyed her chicken strips. The brisket was tender and flavorful. The cornbread was a little dry. Overall, I will recommend this restaurant to others.

My BBQ was actually warm. In the past it has been cold. Much better on this visit.

On point, always a great stop for lunch during the week, they are pretty efficient

Just ate at Sonny’s on South Fl Av Food was cold, and service was poor. it took 30 minutes to get a cheeseburger and then they screwed up the order. Took another ten minutes to bring the remainder of the order. The server asked how it was and I told her it was cold. She didn’t much care. Poorly managed restaurant. Our office normally eats here for major events, but I think we will go elsewhere.

We stopped at Sonny's for dinner on the way home from a long trip. We normally eat at the Sonny's in Bartow but that was out of our coming from north Lakeland. This two star review is generous all things considered. When we walked in we were greeted and seated right away. That was the best part of our visit. The next people that came in were told it would be a 10 minute wait to be seated (our booth was right next to the hostess stand). We didn't see our waitress during the next ten minutes and they weren't seated. More people piled into the lobby and were told there was a wait. Our server finally came to get our drink order shortly after notifying the table behind us their food order was still on hold and hadn't been put through since they had ordered an appetizer. This should have been a clue that we should have just left. My wife tried to order a sweet potato but was informed they were all out. Imagine our surprise when the table behind us received a sweet potato although their order hadn't been put through before we ordered. Forty minutes after our order was taken, almost an hour into our visit, our son's burger and fries came out (since it's made at different station than our food). It looked like a thin hockey puck. It was probably an inch smaller than the bun all the way around and the fries were cold. The restaurant was not that busy. There were probably 10 empty tables and 4 servers working when we got there. It started calling out at this point and a couple other tables were seated but they were new walk inside because all the other people that had been waiting over half an hour had left (maybe about 20 people). Shortly after the hour in point, our food arrived. My wife's corn nuggets were very over cooked. I had ordered a corn muffin but received garlic toast. Our server has been running around frantic the entire time so catching her to make a correction was pretty much impossible. Around the same time as we received our food, the tables that were recently sat also received their food. It was a train wreck. The wheels were off the bus. I never saw a manager. We won't be back to this location.

I got the BBQ basket lunch special with delicious sauced wings with the thick crinkle cut french fries. The fries were a bit over salted but the big glass of cold iced tea solved that problem.

Had to have been the best ribs meal I have had in a long time from Sonny's.

Yummy food, fast and friendly service! I loved my sandwich served on delicious garlic toast! Good sides , as well! Easy parking. Lots of customers but quiet and enjoyable atmosphere.

The last 2 times we went there they had run out of brisket.

Our server was the nicest lady. She reminded me of my grandmother.

I've been a customer of Sonny's BBQ since the 1980s and I'm sad to see how bad it's become since the corporate takeover. When our food arrived the orders were wrong, I had ordered the pick three as did my wife. Mine was 1 order of ribs and 2 orders of brisket, my wife ordered 2 orders of ribs and pulled pork. I received 2 orders of ribs and 1 of brisket I wanted cornbread but was given garlic bread. My wife received 1 order of ribs and a double order of the pork and was missing a side of Cole slaw which by coincidence was missing from our last visit when we had takeout. My plate had a huge crack in it (see photos). When we tried to use the salt shaker we discovered it was clogged so grabbed another off a nearby table only to discover it was clogged also. We pulled the caps and to our disgust discovered the filth under the caps (see photos). We complained to the manager who claimed he was new and had no authority to issue a refund. He took my phone number and said the general manager would call, but he never did.

Pick 2 is the best bbq deal in town

I was hesitant on trying this for a while bc of some of the reviews but so glad I did. Was pleasantly surprised by how good the chicken wings were and the corn nuggets were amazing. Bbq bowl was great too. Also very reasonably priced and great portions!

Great food, excellent service and nice atmosphere. Hot food fast.

It was all great but we would have loved to have been able to enjoy eating at a salad bar. We had to go somewhere else to get the salads . So next time we will be looking for a place with a salad bar first.

What is there to say? It's Sonny's. It's good.. it's like ol reliable

Had the Sonny's sampler. Baby back ribs were not fall off the bone. More like burt on the bone. The bbq beans tasted like every other restaurants bbq beans. The smoked wings were meaty and tasty. I will try and go back for their handheld sandwiches.

The food was great. The servers did not want to wait on us because we had 11 people with us. So one of the lady managers waited on us after waiting over 30 minutes. The hostess didn't smile or try to accommodate in any way. The lady that finally waited on us was very efficient and accommodating. Eat there, just don't bring your visiting family. I might give them a third chance. When are these restaurants going to realize customer service is very vital to their survival?

They're always friendly and prompt. I like the smoked wings and sliced pork (pick of the pit combo). Always good.

First I called in to see what was in the kicking chicken & was told chicken fingers, Mac & cheese & tater tots. I thaught they would be separate but it was all in a glob with hot sauce poured on top. It tasted terrible so I had to throw it away. Today I tried to give them another chance so I had half rack of Baby back ribs with a sweet potato & Tater tots. The sweet potato was hard & cold, the Tater tots were also cold & the ribs were tough. I also got corn bread & it was all Crumbled. I never had these problems with the north side, this one just lost my business so don’t Waste your money there!

I will not be coming back any time soon. I called my order in at 12:45. Lady took the order and advised me it will be ready in 10-15 minutes. I arrived at 1:05 and they couldn't find my order. The lady who took my order said she remembered my order but couldn't find it. Then after looking into it she never submitted my order to the kitchen. She submitted the order and I finally received my food at 1:30. I called this in 45 minutes before receiving my food. They didn't even try to make this right, keep telling me it's almost ready. Didn't even acknowledge they messed up and surely didn't apologize for what happened. I was 15 minutes late getting back to work. I come here a lot and never experienced anything like this. I will be taking my business somewhere else.

Brought me out 2 slices of sliced pork. What’s up with that. Also they was thick cut. Fix it. The waitress hooked me up with a little. We all go there to eat meat so quit shorting us. Very shameful. If you need me to show you how it’s done. Let me know. I grew up near Sonny who started the chain.

We were seated at a sticky table and after 10 minutes of no contact, we moved ourselves to a neighboring table. We ordered unsweetened tea and the tator tot appetizer. Our drinks arrived but were sweet vs unsweetened. The appetizer showed up and after a few bites we discovered a black hair. They took the app off of the bill. Our meal arrived but when I went to my silverware it was sticky so I requested replacements. Eight minutes later the replacement showed up. My wife refused to eat her meal and I picked through my meal. The server was constantly apologizing and blaming others for the issues. Apparently the location has issues but we won't return. We stopped at the location every time we go to Lakeland. No more!

Very disappointed. Ordered the sampler. And as I'm eating it it's winding up to be the driest meal that I ever ate here. Felt like the meat was from the day before. Only thing that was fresh was the beans n mac n cheese n bread. Ribs were so dried out maybe 2days old. Chicken breast started out ok but wound up very tuffffff. Pulled pork Very dry n stringy. Sliced brisket was edible. Sorry had to complain. But had to get it off my chest....

Me and My was celebrating father day for him Saturday June 16,2024.We ordered the all You can eat slice pork baked beans coleslaw.The pork had more fat then meat less serving of meat each time we had no big slices of pork 😥.The bake bean tasted like the recipe was changed We were there a year ago .We drive all they way from Brandon. The coleslaw was Great.😊

This place was crazy busy today with Father's Day. We had to wait but when the food came it was delicious as always.

Sat at the bar and it took about 10 minutes before anyone acknowledged that I was there. At the end of the meal, the waitress dropped the check without asking if I wanted anything else.

The food was meh and we ordered Mac n cheese and didn't even get utensils or any napkins at all with our meal. We had to go back and ask for both.

Ordered take-out. Food is excellent, but follow-up is horrible. Received an unsolicited questionnaire in my email box. When I tired to unsubscribe, the link was grayed out--a clear violation of federal requirements. I'll think twice about using a restaurant that intentionally acts this way.

Good food and they even provide free sandwiches to blood donors

This location always seems to have issues esp with relation to specials. Never have enough staff or food items. Computers constantly "down" during specials nights leading to 30-45 mintue wait times to even be seated. Food is great IF/WHEN you get it, but staff just repeats, will get to you when we get to you.

Literally just walked out. Party of 2, standing up at the podium for a couple minutes. No one acknowledged, no big deal. Waitress with the tattoos down her arm comes out of the kitchen with some drinks, glares at us then takes the drinks to the table. A little "be right with you" goes a long way when there is a Millers Ale House right down the street.

Crowded, understaffed and servers were pissy. They kept seating people, without taking orders, so all of the orders would hit the kitchen at the same time. We got up and left before placing our order, but after waiting 15+ mins and didn't even get to order drinks. Go anywhere else. Seriously.

For the last two times I've ordered online, my order has been incomplete. One time you missed the cornbread, and the last order was missing the pulled pork. This is really #inconvenient and I'm getting #hangry.

Worst Sonny's I have ever been to, management sucks, I wonder if she even knows where she's at. I have to admit the worst Sonny's ever been to lately but a few years ago it was good, I think management is the problem.

Kathy was our server and she was phenomenal. We will be back just to see her. Service is a huge part of the dining out experience and she was amazing.

Quality of food is typical cookie cutter.

I requested some revisions to my order as it was listed on the menu. Served perfectly as requested! Server was great. Great food.

We visited on Mother's Day, so we knew it would be busy. Ordered the Sonny's Cuban and was disappointed. The pulled pork on the sandwich and on Mom's pork 3 ways was dry. Next time will have to stick to the old favorites. Service was great despite being so busy.

Ordered a pound of brisket and I got 70% fat in a puddle of grease!!!!! Who serves there customers like this!!!!! This is disgusting!!! I didn’t order your left over slop!!! I just had the egg rolls. They were very light on the filling, as well as being over cooked. An almost twice fried item. I won't go back. Other guests weren't very happy with their choices either. They were eating the chicken with gusto!

Great food and service super busy tonight

Hadn’t been back to Sonny’s since they got rid of the salad bar and it’s still not back; which is sad in itself because it was the best they had to offer. Ordered the brisket cheese sandwich. It was awful, no it was beyond awful! I ate the whole thing anyway. Didn’t say anything to the server, she seemed a bit stressed as it was, so I left her a nice tip instead. My buddy got the pulled pork and he loved it…so it goes.

Ordered pick up. I was there at the time it was supposed to be ready and they hadn't started the order. The bartender had one customer and was angry she had to help the pickup door. She said more than a few times "they gone have to wait". Attitude is important when I choose where I'm spending.

Impressed to drive up and see the changes with new drive through. However after picking up my order, 3 big deals for $40. Not impressed with the price. My order was wrong. I asked for buns and got very soaked gross garlic bread. The tea tasted awful and after tasting the sandwich on that bread. I decided that was $40 I was putting in a garbage can. Bubba ques always has a $5 deal with beans and slaw in and sandwich on the bun. Regretting this stop at Sonny’s today Also my sandwich had Mac n cheese on it

I would give 5 stars but they changed the parking for tiny cars! Drove around 4 times waiting for someone to leave!! There were several extremely small spots in the center open, but my vehicle wouldn't fit on the white lines.

We have eaten here many times, but finally decided to leave a review. They were a little short-handed this evening in the dining room, but our server, Felicia, was fantastic and handled everything like a pro. Great food, great service, very clean dining room and restrooms!

wow. Just WOW. I looked over about 5-7 BBQ places near me before ordering here and I am SO GLAD I did. The food was absolutely amazing. The ribs were so tender and cooked perfectly. My boyfriend got pulled pork and brisket and he said it was amazing too. This will now be my #1 pregnancy craving so I will 100% be back!

I've not eaten at all the BBQ places in Lakeland, so I can't comment on Sonny's being #17 out of 18 in Lakeland. But I found the food a little better than average. The sides were only so-so, but the ribs (two types) were excellent. Service was slow, and the wait staff seemed overworked, but it was a busy time of the day. You would like Sonny's if you love to be treated like an adolescent grandchild, called "honey" and "baby" and other forms of endearment normally reserved for your significant other, not from a supposed professional. Please note: I'm a paying customer, not your long-lost nephew. Treat me with respect, not unnecessary familiarity.

Me and my wife dined here on 02/05/24. The service was good the food was subpar. I ordered chicken wings and a rib dinner. The wings were close to being under cooked and they were extremely greasy. The ribs had a mealy texture. I addition who serves cold cornbread??

Food was bland (not even a smoke taste or smell from a pit). Should have sent back but brought it, and my wife's meal home so that I can fix it right. The waitress was not having a great day either. Sadly, this will be my last Sonny's meal as the last location was also not good, but I still remember when the chain was great.

I was there today and got lunch. I got the pulled pork Cuban. It had the pork, pickles an BBQ mustard on toasted bread. It was really good. I added BBQ sauce to it an made it taste better. It was definitely different from the Cuban you get at Publix sub shop. This was BBQ an was my first time trying something different. I really liked it. I also had coleslaw and a drink. Thanks so much for a real good lunch.

If I could put 0 starts I would , only once I’ve taken the time to post a review but I absolutely had to warn the my friends followers family subscribers fans and strangers .. First of all i asked for a total and was told “I’m to busy I’m not getting you a total right now you can come in and get it “ and I needed too know if I had enough money or if I needed to go get more , being I had to get my food in 30 mins from the time I called to have it for my sons birthday party, that was a huge inconvenience and she was VERY rude about it , to say I’m embarrassed of the food I had to serve my friends and family is an understatement, and also a waste of $130 .. all of my meat was hard and dry, literally out of almost 30 people no body could eat it.. I will never order from or eat here again and neither will anyone that was at my party once I told them where it came from, all that was ate was the sides & I made them.. that’s sad , I highly encourage if you want bbq take your money to missions cause I’ve never had this problem there . Or literally any other bbq place in fl, this one is Absolutely disgusting. and I will post on my very popular social media accounts about my experience so all my friends family and fans can see and agree to never waste their money there ; thank you Sonny’s for the worse experience you coulda gave me for my sons birthday .

Sonny's is always good but the service was terrible we ordered salads and they brought them with dinner and we had to get another waitress to help us

Sonnys can’t be bothered to answer the phone, they put you on hold indefinitely in excess of 15 to 30 minutes hold time and then hang up. When someone does finally answer the phone, they refuse to let you talk to a manager and continue to talk over you and then hang up again. There’s no excuse for such piss Poor customer service.

The food was good, but lost a couple of points with me because my roasted turkey was cold. I had the roasted turkey with the corn and sweet potato. This particular Sonny's has been our "Go To" BBQ for convenience. It has been our favorite for a local. When our plates came out the sandwich portion looked Behemoth and quite frankly, greasy. After we took off the top piece of the sandwich, we had an instant "inkling" WHY the sandwiches: 1.) Looked much larger with meat than normal and 2.) The Greasiness. We started rolling over the Chunks (not really pulled) of pork and beneath the majority of the Chunks that made up the sandwich was pure FAT! In short, we didn't take pictures, which we should have, but over half the "meat portion" of our sandwich was nothing but unadulterated FAT! As we were finishing our meal our Server came by again to ask if we needed anything to wit my Wife quickly replied, "No I'm Done," pushing her plate away so the Server could easily pick it up. Our Server quickly noticed the amount of fat laying on the bottom piece of garlic bread and said, "Whoa, I can see why.. Let me show this to the Manager." Our Server asked politely, "Would you like another sandwich?" To wit my Wife said, "No, no Thank you I had quite enough already." Our Server keenly picked up on my Wife's response asking again, " Can I get you anything else?" Our Server was Excellent throughout, but somebody in the Kitchen was clearly not checking or watching the plates going out otherwise, I don't think we would have gotten the "Bottom residue from the Pork Pan on our sandwiches."
