The Bayou Ramen Bowl and the Hellfire Ramen Bowl are my two addictions right now. Every time I go back to try something different, these two Ramen bowls keep pulling me back in! The customer service is always good too. The workers are friendly and welcoming. I highly recommend this place to anybody who is in the Mayport area!

It's like a whole in the wall restaurant but nicer. The chicken is fried fresh and is crispy. I recommend the hellfire Ramen combo with fried Mac and cheese.

I had the vegan bowl and they were sure to ask if I had a gluten issue. Even though I didn’t, I have family members that do and that made me feel safe to bring them here next time they visit! My guy got the tonkatsu ramen and two dark pieces and loved every bite! 10/10 always

Found this suggestion browsing Reddit (of all places) for the best ramen in Jax. The ramen (Bayou and Hellfire) were fresh, hot, and flavorful. The fried chicken was also delicious. Happy to find a local spot and support small business. Will be happy to return soon.

We drove out here from Arlington since hubby had seen great reviews on the fried chicken. Poor man married a “I can’t fry chicken!” person. Fast forward a quick 20 minute jaunt and we are walking into Hangar Bay for lunch. The ladies as the counter were so sweet and funny! It felt like they already knew us! I loved how happy they all seem. No grumpy faces here! I ordered the teriyaki pulled pork with Asian slaw in a bowl and hubby had, yep, you guessed it, 2 piece dark meat chicken and bourbon baked beans. My bowl was so good! The balance of salty and sweet was spot on! The pork was steaming hot and the slaw was nice and cold! Perfect combination that I will order again! Hubby reports the chicken was crisp but not hard crunchy that hurts your teeth. The seasoning was the right blend and the meat was juicy and flavorful. We both agree that those bourbon baked beans are something special! You get a subtle swirl of warm bourbon in each delicious bite. Since we will be back next time we are trying one of the several ramen bowls on offer. Can’t wait!

I really love what this restaraunt is trying to do. A modernized "Navy themed" chow spot with art and decor and food to take Sailors back to Japanese Ramen shop. For me the low points, Ramen is subpar at best, noodles were fine, meat was tender and tasty but the broth was off, it was good but not a true Tonkotsu and the egg was over done. Service was friendly but literally stops at the counter, you refill your own drink and the bring you food, thats it. Price is reasonable, vibe is cool, i would try one of their other Ramen in the future.

Got the 4 piece mixed fried chicken. Without a doubt, the best chicken in jax. Can't wait to go back and get more. Also, wanna try the Ramen bowls, cause those look delicious as well.

Superb ramen and fried chicken!

I guess the boss was not in today. Chicken was dry and chaos in the kitchen, but the ramen was still on point.

I knew about this place for a long time and just never went there for no particular reason. I finally decided to give them a try yesterday 5/3/24. The young lady behind the counter told me this would be the best fried chicken you ever had, and she was absolutely correct. The establishment was clean and very appealing. The staff was friendly and the prices were reasonable. I will definitely return! Update: Since my first visit I have been back 3 additional times. Each time the chicken was worse than the time before. The last time I ordered (to go) from them was on Thursday, 27 June, about 5PM. I ordered inside and then went outside and waited in my car. About 20 mins later a young man walked out with my order and handed it me. I told him Thank You. The first thing I noticed was that the bag felt very light (I ordered the 4-piece chicken). I drove home and when I opened the bag, I realized why it was so light. The chicken looked like it had been cooked 2 days prior and sat around in the store. The thigh was actually larger than the breast and the breast was sooooo dry I threw most of it away. Why did I have to wait 20 mins to get 4 pieces of chicken that were obviously already cooked prior to me ordering? I figured waiting that long I was going to get freshly cooked chicken. That was my last time eating at this establishment.

We liked that you could get a side of fried chicken with the ramen. While the ramen is okay, the fried chicken, fried okra and Mk50 sandwich are delicious 😋 The woman taking orders is also super friendly and efficient. I appreciated her telling us to leave our dishes on the table, when we ordered, instead of having that awkward moment trying to figure out if it's a "leave your mess" or "clean it up yourself" type of restaurant.

Food here is very good. Don't order delivery though because they double tie the bags, but don't tape or staple them. Just order online or call ahead and pick it up yourself.

Great little place to get good food. Best fried chicken and sides ever. You also get the privilege of rubbing elbows with some of our seafaring military personnel. Nothing negative about this place.

Best customer service around. I knew I was in for good food when I entered. So many people ordering. I had to wait a bit for the food because they were so busy. And the wait was worth it. Best chicken in the area. I will call to pre order next time. And there will be a next time.

The driest chicken I’ve had in a while, I expected more. The ramen was ok. Definitely not going back for the price.I understand pre cooking fried chicken. But this was so old it was dryer than a you know what…. I expected a lot more since they do noodles and fried chicken. $25 for 2pc white and ramen what a rip off.

Nice small cutout Ramen. However gotta knock a few points cause it seems to do too much in a menu and the Ramen was initially a bit chewy. But still worth a second visit to see otherwise.

This is one of the best food spots in Mayport. My husband loves to get their ramen and I get the shrimp and grits every time. They have Sapporo which is a huge plus. Quick service, yummy food and affordable prices make it a win all around.

Made an order through Uber eats. Requested on my item for NO PORK and to SUB chicken meatballs. It’s even clearly printed on my receipt. I don’t eat pork and I received pork in my ramen. On top of that, I made it a combo with 2 pieces of chicken and that did not even come with my order. To make things personal, I’m pregnant and NOT happy. I spent $30 on food I either didn’t get, or can’t eat.

Great service, excellent quality food and good sized portions

I had the Spicy Po’ Boy Sandwich with potatoes salad. My buddy share me the BFE (Best Fries Ever) , with spicy pork, scallions, cheese fries and bourbon teriyaki pulled pork sandwich. I gotta say may not be healthy but definitely damn good for cheat day to enjoy the meal! I will definitely be back again. 🔥

First things first- to the Veteran, Chris Straw who owns this establishment, my family and I thank you for your service! Second, the staff was friendly, informative, and on the spot! Everything we had here was absolutely DELICIOUS. My husband and I came here to celebrate Mother’s Day early with our toddler and I am so happy we did! All 3 of us had ramen (fresh, tasty, umami broth saturated with flavor), fried biscuits topped with a sweet and sticky drizzle, ginger and cabbage slaw (slightly tangy, marginally sweet, and ooh so good), and fried chicken (crunchy, juicy and well seasoned) and finally, buttery and flaky chicken puff gyoza. I HIGHLY recommend Hangar Bay. On a sidenote, I did not take any pictures of the food as I was too preoccupied with eating it.

Drove from lejeune down to jacksonville since it was a stop before heading more further south and was just looking for a random place to get a quick bite to eat and man I am so glad I went here. I've never had chicken tenders that tasted so good along with the ranch. I felt like I was eating heavenly chicken but that's just my opinion since it wasn't too crispy. 10/10 would stop here again

Newer to Jacksonville area. Hangar Bay Cafe was highly recommended by a coworker of mine who is a Navy veteran. I am also a Navy veteran and was happy to hear that the owner was as well. We ordered take out. Hangar Bay did not disappoint. We tried the chicken, macaroni and cheese, and Japanese Raman. Everything was amazing. I especially loved the macaroni and cheese. Would highly recommend to anyone. Go support a great local restaurant and Navy veteran. We will definitely be visiting on a regular basis.

Haven't had a bowl of good ramen since I left Japan. This definitely hit the spot. Curry ramen was very tasty.

This is by far the best ramen in Jacksonville…. They also have AMAZING chicken and unbelievable fried homemade mac and cheese. It’s like a soul food ramen fusion! I only wish there was more seating in the restaurant… All in all I will forever come in and grab a bowl and enjoy

My "go-to" place for fried chicken! Seasoning is on-point, super crispy and cooked perfectly. I personally don't care for the ramen, seems underdeveloped to me. But everything else I've had is excellent!

The BEST fried chicken I have had. (Sorry dad) The BEST. If you love fried chicken. You must go here. It’s a small place with some tables and counter space pretty big menu but The fried chicken is the Bomb. The place is all Navy and Japanese decor. They also have Ramen which is great, but the chicken is killer. It is a must do. I see a landmark in the making. (Maybe it already is one, I’m visiting) Did I say it was amazing chicken. Hot, fresh, crispy, perfectly seasoned and cooked. Not greasy at all and the meat inside is perfect. Staff is great and the prices are great. The owner was super nice. Only a short drive from the beach toward Mayport. You gotta go. 3 years later, went back, still the best fried chicken and hubby got to try the ramen bowl. Since my daughter is stationed here now, I know I’ll get to come back soon!

Had the bayou Ramen. It was okay, had a cirrus flavor in the broth that threw me off alot. So ended only eating the shrimp, sausage and the noodles. Fry chicken was really good though, was crispy, flavourful and not dry at all. And the Asian girl at the front was very polite!

I walked into this place, and it felt like you're walking into history. There are so many cool things around to look at. If you're a Navy buff, it's like a museum. The seating is quiet and comfortable. Everything I saw was spotless clean. So ambiance gets a 5/5. Service. The owner was manning the register when my friend and I walked in. He greets you in a way that makes you feel instantly at home. Not overly nice like "customer service voice." It's more like you stepped in your uncles house, and he just asked if you ate yet. The way it works, you pay at the counter, and they do the rest. Bringing food, clearing plates. The food came out in a timely manner and was obviously all fresh. You can just tell by the smells, the textures, and flavors. None of this was made by chef mic lol. Food. The Sando. I got a sandwich called the MK50. Holy cow, was there so much flavor going on. A little bit on the spicy side. I am a spice nut, I am that person who orders the hottest thing on the menu most places. That said, this had a little heat, but more importantly, a lot of flavor. There is a beautifully seasoned smokey sausage as the centerpiece of this sandwich. Then there's hell fire pork, which is a spicy umami ground pork that adds a nice depth of texture and flavor. Add some remoulade sauce to add some creamy and more savory. A cheese sauce to add a little comfort food flair to a super savory sandwich. A lite refreshing slaw, scallion, and fried garlic to add crunch and a punch of flavor. Finally, the bread, it's big but light and fluffy. Overall, the MK50 has a lot going on, and it's all well thought out. It was easily one of my favorite sandwiches I have ever had. The Chicken. The star of the show at this amazing hidden gem. I got a 2 piece and some biscuits. When my teeth first sunk into the wing I got, I actually paused mid-bite as I was wowed by the amount of flavor I just had. It's not over breaded. It's not fried too hard or too soft. Seasoned to perfection. The juices tasted like an amazing chicken stock. It wasn't just grease. Fried golden brown perfection. I will also add that this delicacy came in at about half the price of your average fast food chicken. That's the only way anything at this place could be compared to anything fast food. The fried biscuits are little tringle pillows covered in butter and honey. The best method we found was to rip a piece of chicken off and place it on the biscuits, then take a bite. Together, they make a truly simple but special experience. So, to wrap up. I am so glad I stopped by this place for lunch. Hands down best chicken in jax. That sandwich is something to write home about. All of this combined with it being a locally owned and operated business. I can not recommend this place high enough. Get there before this place blows up when people find out it's there.

Get the Ramen. Get the fried chicken. Get the Cajun shrimp po boy. Honestly, I’ll eat everything here just for the service and vibes. The food is everything!! It might not be a fancy place, but the food is absolutely 5 stars. Making this a regular stop from now on.

This restaurant by far is one of the best places I've been too while traveling. While having the opportunity to live in Japan for 5yrs, and know how much my kids love Ramen, this place is top tier. The atmosphere alone is amazing There hasn't been an item on the menu that I have tried, and didn't like. Everything I've had was delicious and made with so much respect for the culture and love. The soul food reminds me of my Grandma's cooking, it's fried and seasoned perfectly. I can go on and on. So I'm just going to say go try it for yourself you won't be disappointed. Thank you!

I’ve taken my disabled mother-in-law here for lunch many times because the food is quite good, but today our interaction with the manager at the counter was weird. He wasn’t pleasant, got our order wrong and then blamed it on us, something about “internal conversations”. ? The whole experience was uncomfortable. Perhaps he doesn’t want elderly, disabled veterans clogging his order line. We won’t bother him again.

Had been coming here for a few years, and it was my wife's favorite. Today's experience with the owner at the counter changed that, as his demeanor was rude and condescending. I'm former Navy myself and can be a prick with the best of them but that's not appropriate in the civilian world selling product. I found myself wondering if he realizes how he comes across, or was being sarcastic, but in light of similar reviews and responses probably not. As a paying customer I'm expecting Air Force behavior, not Navy.

First visit last night, was awe-struck by large menu so took a good 20 minutes just sitting at the bar figuring out everything they had and what I was in the mood for...finally went for their Curry Ramen and a Blue Moon beer....which was fantastic...I was surprised at everything crammed in that bowl...big slices of perfect pork, vegetables, other asian? ingredients I couldn't identify 🙂...will be going back again tonight (if they're open)...inexpensive enough to go there multiple times a week and let them cook and keep me fed instead of me doing the shopping and cooking ! 😎 ...also, being a Navy brat and former military myself (Navy pilot Dad said "Go Air Force !"😉), I really appreciated owner's photography and artwork on the walls reflecting his years in...thank you Sir ! ❤️😎

This place has the best fried chicken I've had in Jacksonville in a long time! The Asian inspired sides and Ramen at first struck as an odd combination but after eating here I'm completely sold on the idea. The name and decor of this place is 100% United States Navy inspired and is owned by a veteran. Being near Mayport Naval Base, uniformed personnel were there as well during our lunch visit. This place is a vibrant nexus of culinary tradition and innovation all situated in an atmosphere of patriotism and service under the flag. Looking forward to coming back again soon!

The ramen was great. What wasn’t so great is the owner arguing with us when told him that the soup base wasn’t hot enough. Two out of the three bowls came piping hot, the third was luke warm. Even though it’s your restaurant, try to remember you’re cooking for paying customers.

Went in the other night with a buddy. Got the tonkatsu and a piece of Oreo cheesecake. The broth was amazing and the pork was cut thick. I will definitely be going back many more times.

I didn't think I'd find ramen here but I did. Had the Godzilla Ramen. The bowl was the size of my head! It was so good I ate it all. Edit: After several years, I came back here and had their fried chicken. I'm totally convinced that this is probably the best fried chicken I've ever had in Jacksonville! It's light on the breading but it's full of flavor! With the great ramen and the delicious fried chicken, I've updated my rating to 5 stars.

The chicken was juicy and crispy and the ramen yummy with incredible flavors. We brought our left overs home to enjoy later. The owner came over mid-meal and checked on us to make sure we were enjoying our meal. Don't wait!! Go there tomorrow!

I saw this place reccomended online so I figured I'd give it a try since it seemed interesting. I can say the fried chicken is awesome some of the best I've had. I really enjoyed the slaw too the baked beans were good but were my least favorite out of the things I ordered. When I ordered I forgot to order a dipping sauce, and im honestly glad I didn't order one because the chicken really doesn't need it it's great on its own. (although I'm sure their sauces are very good). I'm hoping next time I'm the area I can try the ramen! I can understand some of the other reviews saying the owner was "rude" but he really isn't, he's super nice and polite. I can't wait to come back and try more from this restaurant in the future. (also love the decor super cool)

My wife and I are on vacation and was craving some noodles and came across this place on Google. So glad we tried it. The food is absolutely delicious. I got the hellfire ramen and my wife got the bayou ramen. Both were delicious. But the fried chicken was probably the best we've ever had. Very friendly staff and informative. Probably some of the best and freshest food I've ever had. I ordered the shrimp and it was some of the best shrimp I've ever had. I definitely can't wait to come back. Some of the friendliest most hilarious staff I have had the pleasure of meeting. If you want great food and great atmosphere come here!

Very good fried chicken. The breast was a little dry unfortunately. Had 2 people, ate 1 breast and wing, 1 thigh and leg, 1 order each of fried gizzards, liver and okra and 2 fountain soda for $29. Not bad.

We read good reviews online and decided to give it a try since we were headed to Hanna Park for a couple hours. The place is small but there are tables inside. Great photos on the wall! We each had Ramen bowls, Bayou and the Fireball. They were delicious! The service we had was great. We will definitely be back. I recommend ya'll give it a try, you won't be sorry.

This chicken is better than any chicken I have ever eaten and the sides like fried mac and cheese was my number one but we will be back and when you try them you will want more too.
