There’s a reason why this business has been around since 98, really great food without compromising too much on authenticity.

Quality of food is poor. Used all old vegetables for soup. Disappointed.

There are many interesting offerings on the menu and all we have tested are excellent. This is a pretty place with helpful servers. They offer an excellent fixed price lunch menu which allows you to try a soup, appetizer and entree. The portions are relatively small but the price is good in this inflation era and each item we chose was delicious. Note that the food style is Malaysian - not commonly found.

Passing by from NY to go home, I wasn't hungry at all, just waiting for my husband visited the Yestertoy accross the street, but man!!! This was THE BEST CHAR KWEI TIAU I ever have since I live in USA!!!

One of our favorite things about New Jersey. Having moved out of state a year ago, we miss and sometimes crave our visits to the Taste of Asia. Tasty, imaginative dishes, a warm friendly atmosphere and gracious service. Great food, nice people and it doesn't break your budget.

This is a lovely restaurant on Main in Chatham. Seating consists of small table with chairs. However the chairs lack any cushions and can be uncomfortable. The ambience is open, spacious, with big windows and dotted with lots of plants. The menu is well designed and organized Staff is friendly, attentive and helpful Food was good however in both or dishes (Chicken Thai Basil curry and Shrimp ginger scallion from the lunch special) the protein appeared to be deep fried, I would have preferred it cooked with the dish to better absorb the flavors.

One of my FAVORITE places of all time. Food is authentic and absolutely delicious. The staff are kind and courteous. Great place and highly recommend

The food was okay, but the servers weren’t. As a brown woman, I felt there was some racism. We were treated differently when it came to taking our orders, answering our questions on the dishes and just the overall services compared to the other “local” folks. Wouldn’t recommend to anyone! After reading the response from the owner, let me just correct them by stating facts, that we were the first people to walk in as the restaurant opened and in the hour that we were there, only 4 out of some 20 tables were occupied, clearly you weren’t busy! We were also asked to choose the table we wanted to sit in, so no we weren’t “offered” your last available table.

I loved this place. Very good taste and quality. Staff is very nice and friendly. Comparatively more options for vegetarians. Must try.

I had the Singapore Style Vermicelli here and it was so good. I liked it so much that I looked for a recipe online, bought some ingredients, and tried making it myself. it was absolutely awful when I made it. An absolute abomination of food I created. So just go to Taste of Asia. Food is really good there

I absolutely loved the spring rolls, chicken satay, and peanut sauce! Everything was perfect. Haven't had Asian food this good in years! I live in Scotch Plains but luckily tutor at the Chatham Library. The Scotch Plains area lacks good Thai restaurants. The service was excellent, too. Will return for more takeout.

I brought 4 friends to share a "mini-buffet" at Taste. They were scraping their plates...

how do you mess up scallion pancakes? not flaky at all and no flavor, only redeeming food was the custard buns

Came on a Sunday with the family - 5 of us - for Dim Sum. A good curated selection of options on hand. There was a feel of Malaysian influence on the menu that I’ve not had before. Among the highlights was a split pea pancake with curried potatoes - really a must! Also loved the eggplant stuffed with prawns. The standard steamed buns and dumplings were all nice. We had a selection of noodle dishes with the ho fun noodles being the best for us. Excellent service and delicious food. Will come back when in the area again.

Came here for dine in for dinner, the ambiance was really nice, they had a lot of plants, very serene and calming music in the background. The servers were very calm and knowledgeable of the menu. They have a vegetarian menu also which was great. I ended up ordering the eggplant and their char kuey, a noodle dish which was very well seasoned. I would definitely come back here, very tasty although I wish they had bigger serving sizes

This is a BYOB, and a wonderful place for dinner. We will be back.

have been eating here for years, love their food. BYOB, everything fresh and delicious. Decor is tasteful and subdued, great menu. Get a reservation for dinner they can get busy, lots of regulars.

Food was ok. I grew up eating Malaysian food and lived in MY, and I can tell you that the food is no where near Malaysian. The only thing Malaysian was the music and decor.

Hands down- one of our favorite restaurants in the area!!! Never had anything less than phenomenal here!! You definitely have to try the peanut dumplings. The staff is so sweet and prompt. We LOVE taste of Asia and could not recommend it enough!!

Nous sommes allés là le dimanche midi spécialement pour les dimsums. J'avoue y avoir eu quelques appréhensions car je suis souvent déçue des restaurants asiatiques qui occidentalisent les goûts. Et là je n'ai pas été déçue ! Vraiment très bon assortiment de dimsums maison. Grande variété, pas autant que à Hong Kong par exemple mais nous y retrouvons les classiques. Cette expérience pour la cuisine me poussera à y retourner pour découvrir le reste de la carte. Surtout que le choix de restaurants n'est pas très varié à Chattam/Madison. Le service rapide comme d'habitude. Je ne m'y ferais jamais. Service simple, pourrait être meilleur.

The food was good overall but the appetizers I ordered seemed lack luster. The tom yum soup tasted ok but was more like hot and sour soup. The veggie curry was delicious thou and saved my meal. I'll likely give it another try.

I would give this place ten stars if I could. My family moved away six years ago and I come back specifically to eat at Taste of Asia for their paper shrimp, citrus beef, Malaysian curry chicken, and pad see ew. I could eat everything on the menu and it’s delicious!! If anyone has a problem here, it’s because they hate fun and have no taste buds. Enjoy !!!

Service was good, however food was just ok. We got the Singapore noodles with chicken and vegetables, but it was surprisingly bland. We also had the Malaysian Chili entree with chicken which was just too sweet even though I ordered it on the spicier side, so I wasn't too thrilled about it.

I went this afternoon to try the best food I’ve had in a long time! A+ for the presentation, aroma and the sweetest RED BEAN BUNS I’ve had in such a long time! You want a good time go and try it out, it will not disappoint. A++ on the customer service.

Ordered cilantro dumplings, tom yam soup, roti jala, fried rice, vegetable clay pot and flat noodles. Every item tasted great and the place is vegetarian friendly. The service was also good

Had delicious dim sum which is only available Sundays 12pm-2:30pm. No wait to be seated really. Also got lychee and rose tea, and the mango pudding dessert. The tea was about 2 and a half of the big cups, sugar packets provided. Between the two of us, we ordered 8 dim sum dishes (either $4.75 or $5.75 per plate of 2-4 pieces of food items), totaling about $60, so around $30 each. Felt very full afterwards. There was good service from attentive workers, as they worked together to refill water, clear plates, etc. They had a clean bathroom in the back. Very nice decorations and plants around the room. The menu had English, we just checked off what we wanted with a pencil on the paper menu, and the waitress was kind enough to name each dish when she brought out the platter. Located on the corner of main street there's plenty of parking in the back street nearby, I parked by the post office across the street. Just raise your hand and call someone over when you need anything, and they can split the check for you. Stayed for an hour and a half as I chatted with my friend, would love to come again!

We came to this restaurant right as it opened for lunch, as the first customers of the day. And we are so glad we did! The food was delicious, the service was good, and the bathrooms were clean. Despite traffic in front of the restaurant, we were able to find parallel parking nearby easily. I would definitely come here again, and I'd love to try their dinner menu.

Absolutely delicious food and great service. Lots of vegetarian options. I had the tofu skin roll as an appetizer and the tofu nyonya curry. My companion had shrimp crab dumplings (which were very generous with the shrimp) and the scallop Thai basil stir fry. We can't wait to come back and try more

We got a variety of things, all were bland. There was a hint of exotic spices, but in reality, it was like ordering steamed diet plate at other places. The portion sizes were very small as well. They messed up our order in two ways and we didn't figure it out until we were home. Yes, they do have some unique dishes, and nothing was horribly bad. But we won't be back.

Wonderful SE Asian cuisine. Very nicely prepared and served. Lunch specials are a great deal. Portions are appropriate so there should be no reason to have leftovers. Nice people.

I have been eating here with my family since the kids were small. The food is delicious and fresh, and the staff are friendly and very accommodating. Malaysian Chili Chicken is delicious, and the dumpling-lovers in our house rave about them here. Even the takeout is yummy.

Amazing food, service, ambience. True to its rating

I and my wife went to this restaurant for dinner. It took us a few minutes to find a parking spot as it is right in the main street. The restaurant is very clean and well maintained. The server was extremely polite and helpful. She took care of our order really well. The food was delicious. We ordered Crispy Pan Fried Noodles and Tom Yum Sauce with Chicken. Both the dishes were awesome. My wife is very fond of Malaysian food. She loved the food a lot. The arrangement was very well done. The owner made all the guests sit in an alternate fashion on the tables so that we can maintain maximum and safe distance from other guests. The ambience in the restaurant had a very traditional Malaysian feel to it. Even the refrigerator was completely covered with a traditional Malaysian designed cloth. Overall, the ambience was really good. The prices were reasonable as well. All in all, I would definitely recommend this restaurant to all the people who love or want to try out Malaysian food.

We have been going to Taste of Asia for years and it is consistently delicious! The gluten free & vegetarian menus are super helpful and allow me to bring a variety of friends & family with me. To top it off the staff is always attentive and pleasant. Highly recommend!!

This restaurant is a real gem as we have found it more and more difficult to find excellent Asian food in NJ. Great food, wide menu, and very friendly service. This establishment is very well run.

This primarily Malaysian restaurant offers excellent authentic cuisine enhanced by Indonesian, Thai and Chinese selections. In addition to their extensive regular menu, they have a separate additional menu of extra hot and spicy dishes.

Gourmet Malayan. Stellar taste!  Multi layered flavors.  We shared the Indonesian lo mien, Basil chicken, and Beef curry.  If you are a foodie this is an adventure that you will want to go on.

The restaurant is very nicely decorated, with tastefully colorful decor and ethnic patterned table clothes. The menu is a good size, and the food was good! Good size portion, with choice of white or brown rice. Which was great too :)

We've been here 2-3 times for lunch and the Dim sum on Sunday is very good......even better than most of the dim sum joints in Manhattan. Dumplings and pork buns are "house-made" I believe and are delicious!! Glad to have family nearby so that we can return!!!

Lunch menu is well worth it. You get a good portion of food and it tastes great.

The staff and atmosphere are very nice. Food is unfortunately, just average. Everything kind of tastes the same - sauces are blandish with that gooey corn starch taste. All just a bit too sweet and salty - no really crisp, bright tastes. We had various dishes and again none stood out - though all were edible. I wish chef could clean up the tastes - maybe this is what Malaysian food is meant to be like - and I am comparing to an excellent Thai restaurant I used to go to.

Best Malaysian food outside of NYC! The flavors are complex, authentic and mouthwatering! Steve and his team make you feel welcome and at home. Service is top notch. And the menu has distinguished itself as one of the most creative in the area. This is a standard treat for my family.

Had the Tamerand Chicken which I would recommend. It was tender and seasoned to perfection. Vegetables were crisp and frosh. Service was pretty good.

Love the different varieties of plates they offer. Cooking is authentic and delicious. Do pay them visit if you’re in town.

We really like this restaurant. The menu has something for every taste. The prices are modest, the staff is pleasant and sharing is a must. It may not be beautiful but it is always clean and neat. We never have a problem getting a table and they do take reservations. It's a BYO, another plus. There is parking around the corner on the street and in the lot, another good feature in busy Chatham.

Dim sum is the some of the best in NY/NJ. Fried squid was incredible. The staff were so friendly and welcoming.

Every single dish on the menu at this Malaysian marvel is delicious. The menu includes familiar Chinese-style dishes, with a twist, and exotic specialties of Southeast Asia. Steve, the owner, will see to it that whatever you prefer will be cooked to your taste. Go! Eat! Enjoy!

I have enjoyed Steve's food for many years, since Taste of Asia opened in Montclair. I now live in Honolulu and every time I am in New York I try to find the time to go to Chatam for a meal. My wife is from Penang and she agrees that the food at Taste of Asia is better then in Malaysia. Save yourselves the airfare.

The place is not too noisy and has good quality food. The best meals and probably the soups and noodles because you could have a sense of new food in Asia, besides the chicken relates to America, and looks like Sweet and Sour Pork!!! The Designs somewhat relate to Malaysia, but overall I think this a great restaurant to go to.

so this one was hard cause we usually love this place so im just gonna start with what was good about it .. service was awesome and everyone was very kind. appetizers were mind blowing . ribs were cooked nicely, dumplings with the peanut sauce was a crazy yet amazing combo.. and the roti was out of this world!!!! HOWEVER!!! there mee goreng noodles was a sham.. its just freaking lo mien . my grandma lived in Indonesia. i know what its supposed to taste like... and that wasnt it. place is good but do not get the mee goreng!!! AVOID

Home cooked meals! This is authentic as it gets. We were looking for an authentic Malaysian restaurant in the vicinity and seeing this menu, it seemed like it was. To our pleasant surprise, not only was it authentic, the owner, and some staff, are Malaysian. The food is fantastic, they even give you the option to not make things too spicy, but even as a white guy, it was just perfect the way it was normally cooked. Looking forward to going back again and ordering something different, until I've had the entire menu!

The dishes are tasty and prepared with great care. The service is very good and the atmosphere is friendly. The restaurant is very clean. The owners are present and working hard.

A hidden gem with a chef/owner determined to provide delicious Malaysian cuisine. Their Lunar New Year menu is a highlight for the calendar. If I landed on death row, ToA's Yee Sang would be my final meal request. For the rest of the year, they have an extensive menu plus an additional exotic, spicy menu for even more choices. Summer Rolls, the best fried calamari in the area, and Sticky Rice with Mango are some of our must have faves but we've never been disappointed here. Steve, Linda, and Morena make us feel right at home and it's always been a good, relaxing experience.
