Aji is mine, my spouse’s, and our whole family’s favorite restaurant! Aji isn’t just a 4th Street, Retro Row novel, it’s a Long Beach staple for quality, high-end Peruvian food! Each dish is made to order and is consistently delicious every time! I would highly recommend the warm Caesar salad and any of the ceviches to start. Tacu tacu is a great option for vegetarians; if you’re vegan, just ask for a non-dairy hot sauce, or order one of the gourmet salads, they are always accommodating to alterations! The shrimp chowder is piping hot and delicious and the steak a la pobre is always a hit; The quality is worth the price. The owner will remember you once you become a regular, even if she hasn’t seen you for month, she will always take time to greet you, and it’s been just a decade since my family has been eating there! Even if the outdoor seating is small, they definitely accommodate dogs! Highly recommend making a reservations (day of is fine), even though it seems like there are open spots, they always get packed by the end of the night, because they are that awesome! I wish I could add pictures of the food, but it’s too exciting to remember to take a picture since the food is that yummy!

The ceviche was excellent, fresh, and tasty! They have a diverse menu and good options, such as food and drinks. The plates were kind of small, and it was a little expensive. Service was good, the place was clean, and there was parking in the back part of the restaurant.

We came here as we were craving Peruvian food. I don’t know why people are giving them high reviews maybe cause it’s their first time having Peruvian food . I had to right review because some of you who have had Peruvian food and are having high expectations , you will notice it’s not what you will be expecting . If you have had Peruvian food before , you will know this is not the best. Their chips was good and the ceviche but their lamos sultado was not good at all. Peruvian food is known for their lamos saltado and it was way below average . Even my little one said the other Peruvian place we go was way better. We have had better Peruvian and way too over priced . , 140 soemthing for three plates and appetizer was a bit pricey for something that we didn’t enjoy. Atmosphere was cute more on the cleaner side but we have it a try and won’t will stick to our original Peruvian restaurants . Chips and ceviche was worth it . I would start off with ordering little so you can taste before then can always order more at last this way your not wasting or stuck spending. We ate cause we didn’t want to waste food and money

Definitely a go to hidden gem. My friends and I found this place on yelp after we had gone to the local flea market. It was kind of the we still want to hang out but we were getting hungry thought. Turned out it was completely worth it. This place was a 6 out of 5 for me. 6/5. Reasons are as follows: 2/2 - Parking and Accessibility - There is ample free parking either on the streets nearby or in the parking lot behind the restaurant. Further, there are two entrances in the front, one with a semi ramp and a door way. It is also pet friendly and the owner provided us with a pet bowl to provide water for my friend's dog. 1/1 - Pricing and Portions - Between myself and my two other friends we went all out. Two dishes each and a drink. It was kind of pricey but will be understandable in a bit. 1.5/1 - Flavor - Each dish was excellent even down to the drinks. I went with a traditional chicha morada, a purple corn drink. The flavor was sweet with a little sour and perfect for a hot day. As for the meals I chose it was the anticucho de corazon and the causa trio. The remarkable thing with each of them was that each ingredient for the dishes was prominent and complimented the other. A verifiable flavor explosion, so whole the portion sizes aren't the biggest. The flavor and quality of the ingredients provided a fulfilling feeling. 1.5/1 - Service - The Owner is proud to share the heritage of the food and quick to make an effort to remember you. A core component of what makes a restaurant great, this allows you to feel like you are eating with a loving family. That you are remembered, listened to and appreciated. Overall, a definite recommendation and somewhere I hope to go to again. In all the things that matters, this place exceeds. In addition to this, they are offering a rewards program you do have to opt in to. Please inquire with the Owner for further details. I would not want to give false information.

I went with my wife and son to Aji last weekend for dinner. I follow them on TikTok and the food looked really good on the photos so I decided to make the 1 hour and 10 minute drive to eat Peruvian food which we love and have had in many occasions at other restaurants in Southern California. We found parking in the back of the building and were greeted with big smiles as soon as we came in. Salsa music was popping! We started with Ceviche Mercado and it was good, not great but good. Before the ceviche came to our table our waitress brought some home made potato chips with a yellow spicy sauce and it was excellent! For drinks we ordered Inka Cola which is our favorite. I like the fact that they bring you a glass with ice for your drink even if the can was cold. For our main course we ordered two Lomito Saltado for my son and I and a seafood fried rice that I can remember what is called. These two dishes I'm sorry to say were not good at all. We know how is supposed to taste because of our experience with Peruvian food. My wife didn't even finish her fried rice and my Lomito was incredibly salty. I must say that the meat was tender but everything was salty and the rice was mushy. My son didn't finish his plate either but I did. I figured that I should since the plate was like $36. I decided to have the whole experience and ordered dessert. I went for the donuts and they were spectacular! I ordered 4 of them and we basically had to fight for the last one. Of course I got it. When we got the check I was surprised not for the total because I knew it was gonna be on the expensive. I was super disappointed that the main courses were terrible and we ended up with a $176 check for a meal that was truly not worth the money or our long drive. All and all super disappointed and for sure won't come back. It's too bad because the chips and ceviche were good and dessert was amazing but also the service and atmosphere were great and that the reason I gave it 2 ⭐

I don't know what happened to this place. Last time we went was around 3-4 years ago and we loved it. We ate there last night. We all thought the food was mediocre. The restaurant was so cold that the food cooled down quickly. The place looked sterile and stripped bare with nothing on the walls. The waitress was awkward with us and just looked uncomfortable. Paid 19 bucks for a textbook 8 oz of wine really not cool. Overall at 160 bucks for 4 with tip we decided that it would be our last time eating there. The price just didn't match the experience.

The food here is incredible. It’s got comfort food flavor with an elevated vibe. The seco de res was very tender, and the sauce plus the pickled onions gave it a nice sharpness to cut through the heaviness of the short rib and beans. I would come here weekly if I could so I could try everything in the menu.

My Peruvian-born wife and I thoroughly enjoyed the authentic cuisine at Aji for a Sunday lunch. The anticuchos were very well seasoned and cooked to perfection, accompanied by a tray of three fabulous dipping sauces. Likewise, the whitefish ceviche was perfectly marinated in their "leche de tigre' spicy lime sauce. The "tallarines verdes" (green spaghetti without meat) was outstanding in that it was creamy without being heavy and very flavorful and the noodles cooked just right as “al dente”. The ambiance is very relaxed but tasteful; there were no TVs blasting away with sports and other distractions, so this is a great place for a date night. Many thanks to owners Rosita and Mito (chef) for their wonderful service, food, and hospitality!

BEWARE OF RUDE SERVICE. The last two times here left a lot to desire unfortunately and a very bad taste in my mouth as I left the restaurant this evening. Our server, Carolina, left my party of five sitting and waiting for someone to come by regularly, had to ask other servers for help when it was not busy and we given attitude. I’m honestly very confused why we were given such disrespect but it makes me not want to come back. A place with food like this should not be ruined by terrible service. The food here is good but, I will not be returning and don’t recommend anyone coming here after the level of disrespect we faced. Honestly you should be ashamed of yourself and reevaluate your customer service standards. Yikes!!

What a treat! The food was scrumptious and the service great. They gave us house chips with huancaína sauce and waters first then the table ordered yucca fries, anticuchos de corazón, lomo salado, and picarones. The yucca fries were nice and crispy and came with a tasty yellow but not too spicy dip, anticuchos were tender and had a great green sauce that didn't over power the meat, while the lomo was so juicy the rice got some flavor too, last the picarones were fried so nicely they paired well with it's syrup. Didn't get to snap a picture bc we were pretty hungry, but trust that it looked tasty as well 😋

There are not many choices for Peruvian cuisine in the general South Bay area and I am glad I live so close to one as good as this. Parking is not too bad, especially since that indoor dining is an option again, you can park in the back of the restaurant, or on 4th street eastbound you would have more luck than the corridor on the west with all the other great restaurants. The interior is very homey feeling; scattered plants, a brick wall, a beautiful and delicious wine rack wall. Seriously, you must try a different glass / bottle of wine every time you come here. If you are a white wine drinker, especially, their sauvignon blanc selection in on par! I've been here a few times, trying multiple dishes. One thing that is very consistent is the portion size. Think you can finish a main dish yourself? Think again! Unless you can, then good for you, but I am always happy for leftovers. You cannot go wrong with any of the classic chaufa (fried rice dishes), the tallarine verde, lomo saltado, etc. The appetizers are all shareable and equally delicious. I highly recommend splitting everything if you are with a party just so you can try a little of each! Their menu does say they do not allow substitutions, which is unfortunate for some with dietary restrictions, but to keep dishes authentic, I can understand from their perspective why.

Me and some friends went here for dinner tried somewhere new! the food was great very tasteful I recommend the beef thing and the shredded chicken cheese potato thing too that was really good also the chicken empanadas were tasty. Also try the sangria! I am giving 3 stars because the waitress came and told us they were out of the Golden beat salad so she asked if we wanted something else instead I said no it’s okay please take it off as you can see from my receipt we were charged for it. There were 7 of us and no where did I see it say for large Parties they charge Gratuity of 18%. To me I always tip especially if the food and service was good. When I asked to pay for my portion of the bill she said you can only split two ways because the large party and then informed us the tip is included. Just be aware when you are ready to checkout that your bill is correct. Also I would have tipped more than the 18% if they didn’t add it. Other than that issue the food is very tasty.

We had such an amazing time and the food was delicious . Rosita and Carolina were very welcoming and beyond helpful. Can’t wait to go back and try more . Gracias Aji Peruvian Cuisine❤️
