Adorable restaurant! You are greeted by the staff as soon as you walk in! The food is delicious, reasonably priced, large portions, quick, and fresh! This is our go-to sushi spot in all of the Phoenix area! The happy hour is also fantastic! There is a huge selection to choose from!

Waited for a service for almost 15 minutes since we’ve been seated.l, and just left.

Really good food, and the atmosphere is really chill, good hangout spot to dine and also the sushi was really tasty especially the california crunch roll. Prices are really affordable and the customer service was great.

The miso soup was good. The sushi portions were larger than normal, but i would have rather had smaller portions that were a higher quality. The sushi itself was subpar in quality. The service was nice. The menu was overwhelming. There were some well-done pictures on the menu, but there were also printed photos of the dishes taped to the wall, which just seemed tacky.

Nice place with very friendly service. The food choices are pretty good and great lunch specials. Good and reasonably priced.

So first off this is definitely a place to spend your time and be comfortable, the sushi chef makes his aptitude look refined and the severs are communicative and attentive, for my first time I got a spicy miso chicken ramen with a croquet and a draft Sapporo for under $30 and so far everything has been above the bar the Sapporo crisp and refreshing the ramen amazing and filling with a delectable broth and I thoroughly expect the croquets to meet the same standard. A must visit for date night or a feel good lunch.

PLEASE IF YOU VALUE YOU HEALTH DON'T GO HERE! It started with the server who was making us feel like we were not fast enough with knowing what we wanted to drink. I advised him that this was our first time here. He just started naming off drinks. We felt pressured and ordered drinks. Then when he returned he wanted our order. We again were pressured. We ordered a couple things. He return with a large amount of ginger and wasabi. This was beginning of the end. My boyfriend took a piece of ginger the throw down his chop sticks. That smelled the ginger it smelled like MILDEW!!! He spoke the server he told us, well they just cut up a lot of it and put it in water until theyuse it up. He showed my boyfriend a bucket sitting out in the counter filled with ginger. Not in the cooler, not on ice just sitting in a bucket on the counter! We paid for our drinks and left.

Our absolute favorite place to go for special celebration dinners and takeout nights. Food, presentation, atmosphere, and service are always beyond wonderful!

Hadn't been there in awhile. Happy Hour now only 4 to 6. Was used to the all day Happy Hour. So was worried prices would be high at 3:30pm Was pleasantly surprised. Lunch was in effect and prices were comparable and the bonus was it was not very busy. So service was immediate.

Ordered the Zaru soba but never received the dipping sauce which is the main flavor of the dish. Instead I was given miso soup which I didn’t order. I was so excited to try it and now I’m very disappointed.

Love this place. It’s like a hidden gem. Staff are all fantastic.

My wife and I went to this place prices are out of date on their menus. We did not get what we ordered. We got charged for the sushi roll with the combination plate and did not receive the sushi roll nor the soup that came with the meal either we will not be coming back to this place at this point we believe that this was overcharging us and we highly do not recommend this place at all to anybody!!!! We ordered the combination California roll & chicken teriyaki. menu said it came with white rice, salad and soup for $11.00 we were charged $15.95 and never received our rolls or the soup. We were in the establishment for almost 90 minutes. We had to ask another member of the wait staff where our sushi was and they informed us the order was never put in, they offered to put in the order but at that point we didn’t have enough time to wait another 15-20 minutes let alone the time to enjoy eating.

We really wanted to like this place after seeing so many decent reviews of their food. We ordered a portion of vegetable tempura that had been deep fried to the point of it being too sickening to eat. Anyone who has tasted true tempura knows that the best tempura has a lighter-than-a-feather kind of taste and texture. What was put in front of us was the complete opposite of that: heavy, oily, lacking in freshness, and heavily battered. As for the specific sushi rolls that we ordered (crab/avo and chicken teriyaki), these were mediocre at best. The rice did not taste fresh at all and the chicken didn’t have a hint of proper teriyaki flavour. The crab roll was not as good as it could have been to be totally honest. We also ordered unagi - the price we paid for it compared to the amount of eel that was served to us did not make any sense at all. At the risk of sounding like a complainer, I’d say that we received significantly more rice than actual unagi. The unagi itself tasted ok but nothing to write home about. Overall, the food was totally tasteless and lacked real and fresh ingredients. The way the tempura was cooked was disgusting if I’m being honest - we had taken some home and upon heating the next day, the batter became soggy and there was a pool of oil mixed with water in the plate. The problem with restaurants like Akaihana is that they use large menus to attract more customers. Larger menus are not easy to digest by the customer and much less easy to finesse by the chefs. The best balance is to keep it simple and offer an experience to your customers rather than trying to impress with more options to gain more profit. The only reason this review is brutal is because we’ve had some of the best Japanese food in times past (and air fairer prices). Our expectations were therefore quite high when we considered that from the outside Akaihana has very good reviews left by thousands of customers. The atmosphere of Akaihana didn’t reflect anything Japanese-related (this is just my own opinion). The two positive things that we did notice was their service and cleanliness. The waitresses were friendly and attentive - we didn’t experience bad service of any sort. It’s a shame we can’t say the same about their food.

We've been coming here for more than a decade and it's always outstanding. Every single time. The atmosphere is simple and the sushi is still some of the best fresh sushi in all of Maricopa County.

Ok update! Very delicioso. Update; still delicious. Update: they put fans I will update to 3 star. Up date: Ac does not work you eat very uncomfortable sweating, ac is been not working for a month or so. Very good flavor! Price and portions are great!

I always have a good experience here. When I walk in the door, I feel like I’m at “Cheers” because everybody greets me. Maybe not by name lol but they all say hello. So the atmosphere and the service are amazing. The food always comes out in a nice presentation and tastes great.

Best sushi I've ever had, seriously. I've tried high-quality sushi all over the united states, everywhere from California to South Carolina, and this sushi surprised me! Their homemade soy sauce is liquid gold. Their salmon nigiri was especially good. The staff was also very welcoming and friendly.

I LOVE this place. The renovations look great. This is by far my favorite sushi restaurant and have been going there for years. I've moved and will still drive an hour to go here. The blue flame roll and the spicy shrimp never disappoint!

First time. A friend who lived in Japan for a couple years took us. The food was very good. We all got the combos which included a roll which they allowed us to substitute, tempura, and teriyaki chicken, beef, or salmon. We got the New Las Vegas roll and recommend it highly. We'll definitely be returning.

I contacted H. pylori from your yellow tale tuna. 9 doctor visits later over a 2 month time span, with severe ulcers from the bacterial infection it caused. You guys suck

Sushi bar feels like an inconvenience. Staff seems more focused on take out. Just not welcoming or engaging. Food is ok,nothing to write home about

Disappointing. The fish was very good. The salmon sushi was excellent. The jalapeño rolls were an odd combination of imitation crab cream cheese in a jalapeno, deep fried in panko crust wirh a teriyaki sauce. I didn't care for the strange taste combination. The super mussels were pitch black burnt on top, the staff was surprised I dud not like them, I guess burnt is a new taste sensation? Overall, I have had worse and much much better. I vote..spend your money elsewhere

Excellent sushi! They have great prices for happy hour. We tried the dynamite salad last time. So delicious. Full dinner menu too if you don't want sushi.

Very delicious sushi 🍣 and very kind staff. The Blue Flame Roll was our favorite and the Dragon Roll was good as well. We got Jalapeño poppers which i recommend and the Shrimp Puffs. Super clean and great atmosphere. Cute squishmallows in the kitchen :)

The food was so good! My daughter and I had the worst experience at another sushi place, the food was bad and dry, so we came here to lift up our spirits right after that place, and everything was 100 times better! From the sushi to the adémame to the wasabi and the ginger, delicious and beautiful presentation, and staff is so welcoming.

It use to be one of my favorite dinner spots, good quality and service has really taken a turn for the worse.

My husband and I found our new favorite ramen and sushi place. Huge portions, great food and service.

Lovely sushi place, right off the freeway. The lunch specials are good and well priced. My lunch mate got the special and could not finish all the food. I got a couple of rolls and we shared a garlic edamame appetizer. I don't recommend the garlic edamame. The staff were nice and fairly attentive. Will definitely return! Highly recommend the rolls and any lunch box special.

Last time I went there, we were seated and we sat there for 45 min and no one took our order, we walked out and left. Not going back again.

The sushi is delicious, and so is the noodle bowls. Service was good and the restaurant and the restrooms were clean, I'll definitely go back. I did return and had a fabulous bowl of ramen, a couple of Maki rolls and seasoned squid, seaweed salad and somen noodles. Again, the food was awesome and so was the service. 5/20, again the food and the service was top notch. We tried different menu options this time like curry soba noodles, a grilled chicken based sushi roll and salmon mango roll, so delicious.

Best sushi I've had in a while. Been there several times now and it's easily my favorite sushi restaurant.

Delicious food. We chowed down during happy hour . The rolls are large! Keep that in mind when ordering. We had the last Vegas , the Antoinette, blue flame , angelic, and a couple others. We ordered way too much because we thought these were the small rolls you usually see.

Great relaxing environment. I lived in Japan for four years and four months and this is best sushi and sushimi I have found in arizona. And you can get Japanese kirin beer to wash it down. Also some of the employees speak Japanese so you can practice your Japanese. Totomo oishkata which means very delicious is the first Japanese words That come to mind when I think about this restaurants food. As well as great food they are extremely kind and professional.

We were told that this place was supposed to be da 💣. Com but honestly it was not nice at all. All the sushi was served "Hot' & cooked, I like cold raw sushi not hot & cooked. 2 of the 4 dishes we ordered I ate, the other 2, I threw away. Service was great, we received our food within minutes. Atmosphere was not very nice we ended up bunched in a corner with 2 other tables of people that just came to very loudly talk about dungeons and dragons and were having 1 saki shot after the other. Not a place for a romantic dinner that is for sure. Will we go back, definitely not! The foods appearance was about a 6/10 it was overly decorated with mayo and chili sauce most likely to hide the taste. Nothing here tasted fresh or raw to us, my wife and I were disappointed.

This place is amazing. The service is phenomenal. The menu has so much to offer. They cater to the full blown nigiri/ sashimi pro to the basic/ cooked roll fan. The atmosphere is nice as well. Never a long wait. Worth checking out!

The best been around for 46 years,same owners. Great workers,Anthony & Lettie. The food is all amazing,love the real Ny steak Teriyaki,and the sushi is amazing. Come in and enjoy.Their tea is real & great.

I think the dudes name is Kevin , I don’t remember but he’s the tall Asian that greets everyone .he’s always made the origiri (rice cake). Fire!!

3/21/23 update, today was one of those days, rice was so overcooked you couldn't even see the grains and I had to send it back, the rice is never the same consistency but 9 out of 10 times it is edible 5 out of 10 it is perfect and then there are days like today. Love the sushi special, eat here almost once a week but there is no consistancy, one week the handroll will be overfilled the next it may be under filled, sometimes the rice is so over cooked and mushy I've had to send it back, most times it's fine, sometimes there is a big ball of rice under the sushi sometimes a tiny ball.

I'll always know this restaurant as Mr. Sushi. I've been coming here for 2 decades, and it never disappoints. It's my favorite sushi spot. ❤️

This is my second visit to this restaurant, and I absolutely love it. The portions are large. The food is fresh and very tasty. Highly recommend it.

Found this Japanese restaurant with a Google search, and I am very glad I did. The location is relatively easy access off Black Canyon Highway. The decor is nice, but I only got a brief look at it when I picked up my takeout order. I was greeted by friendly ladies who quickly located my order and handed it to me. At home, my husband and I were equally impressed by the quality of the food and the generosity of the portions. He had a deluxe sushi dinner, and he ate everything but the plastic grass. He's usually a very particular diner, so his mark of approval is hard-earned. I chose vegetable tempura dinner. It was well-prepared, very tasty, and portioned so that I had plenty for 2 meals. Bonus points for giving me more than enough tempura sauce! The only drawback, in my opinion, is that they don't have chicken tempura on the menu. I will be back, and I will ask if they can make it.

Haven't visited Akaihana (Mr Sushi) since pre-pandemic times. Super happy to see that they are not only open, but also getting bigger on the inside. Food great as always, especially my favorite the Blue Flame 🔥🔥🔥

This place has a great selection of sushi and rolls. The ambiance is cozy,and the staff members are very friendly.

The fish here is high quality, and they certainly don't skimp on the hand rolls. The only gripes I have is that the specialty rolls are all astronomically priced, and the wait staff seemed to never be available to anyone in the restaurant. That said the sushi chefs were quick and quite friendly.

I love taking my son to this restaurant. Whenever I ask him where he wants to eat he always says sushi , and he always says akaihana . Damn good sushi , my favorite is the California roll , Philadelphia roll , and the Las Vegas roll .

Had the salmon bento made me feel a little iffy maybe the fish wasn’t super fresh not sure. But was good overall. Critiques : - straw is too short for the cup - table was wet from wiping when I sat down so dry table would be nice Things that made up for the experience the staff was very friendly. And said thank you and bye as we were leaving.

I've been going to Akaihana for several years and it's by far my favorite sushi restaurant in Phoenix. They have an extensive happy hour menu, which includes sake bombs. Everything is always fresh and made to order. Try the veggie tempura and the Las Vegas roll!
