My co- worker dropped my off Friday afternoon and she headed home. I was not expecting this fine dining experience from a Bistro. I had the Octopus and it was tender and delicious. I will come back to try the Halibut. I heard the couple at the next table talking over the menu, we have tried this or that, let's try x this time or repeat x becuase it was delicious.

Tuesday September 4th, our party of 4 had dinner. The steaks were perfect, the scallops were overcooked to the point that 2 of us would have sent them back to the kitchen however the late hour deterred us. Our bill was $497.00 which did not include the$$100.00 tip. Our scallops were $47.00 each for very small scallops and very overcooked scallops. Patsy Egan

See their Facebook page for correct hours and menu. They do a lunch takeout menu, then open for dinner at 5 p.m. Will update after I eat the food.

Altura Bistro makes some of the best food in town. Featuring a weekly special, they keep things fresh and offer a variety of options for lunch and dinner. I've never had or heard a complaint in person in regards to their food or workers and I will continue to order food for pickup- as well as dine in sometime in the near future. The building is tucked away so can be somewhat difficult to find unless you utilize google or facebook but word of mouth has made the spot very popular amongst locals.

We traveled from New York and had a great expectation for this restaurant since it’s highly rated. Overall, food was quite expensive. However, most dishes were too salty for us so even tho they were well seasoned, we really can’t enjoy them. The steak was burnt on the surface too and the bitter taste just ruined the whole thing (which cost 75 dollars). The highlight of this dinner was the elk tartare. Service was good too but our server didn’t ask us for the feedback on the meal in the end.

We walked into a completely empty restaurant and asked to get a seat, and we're told, do you have a reservation? They then told us we could sit a tiny table next to the door. Bewildered we sat and our server walked over. Explained they did not actually open for another 10min and they are booked. He wasn't lying. The place was packed and for good reason the food was outstanding and his service was amazing. Tons of great opinions on the menu and pairing. Highly recommend.

Outstanding food, excellent service, just the sort of place Alaskans like. The food was delicious & upscale, the pours definitely ample. I had the special which was like a pasta fort protecting it's ricotta with a moat of lamb ragout and cream parmesan. Superb! The service from the minute we arrived was outstanding - attentive without being overbearing. Love the vibe casual and contemporary. I would've liked the music to be a notch quieter, but I'm in my fifties and that's pretty much how I feel about wherever I go. I don't think you'll be disappointed if you go.

The food is absolutely top notch. The service is friendly, fast and professional. The restaurant ambiance isn’t fancy, but it’s relaxed. The sound levels are moderate and would work well for a date or business dinner. Our group didn’t try any of the beef dishes, but the scallops, black cod and halibut were perfectly cooked with rich and tasty sauces that matched a nice white wine perfectly. We had the gnocchi with an aged Parmesan sauce as an appetizer I could have happily stuffed myself with as a main course. The only dish that didn’t wow me was an orange fennel salad. That said, they served absolutely superb coffee made with a French press at the table.

Review is going on a few years. Still reliable as ever. Can't go wrong. I've still only been here on the dinner menu. Great atmosphere, amazing staff, focused menu. Definitely would recommend. Not sure if reservations are required but they have said they're activity has increased as of late, so keep that in mind. Very accommodating with reservations, or maybe we were lucky. There are some stairs to where we sat so if that is an issue, I'd make it known at the time of reservation.

I have been trying to really love this place because everyone around me raves about it. Been here four times to finally give this review. Wine selection is great and diverse. Menu is very seafood focused which I absolutely love. Food is very salty. First I chopped to maybe it was a one time mistake, but when I asked to have my food to be less salty when ordering, it was still a lot of salt. Waited longer for food then we actually had food on the table before asking if they could take the plates away. Server didn't come back and ask how was the food. I expected a little more at over $100pp.

Well i can honestly say this is my first google review, and it took me a year to write. I can’t rate the food, we never received our food. My mom had a bad break on her leg, my papa had to go out of town so mom and I were enjoying some great quality time together. She mentioned she’d love a good burger…that is when I got the this idea of getting her the best burger you can buy in anchorage. According to many friends and family members no place but this would do. It was so hyped up, and was the biggest disappointment. I arrived 10 minutes past when my order was suppose to be ready. I waited for over an hour closer to an hour and a half for the order that never came. Every 10 minutes the hostess would look at me roll her eyes and hide in the back for 5 minutes then come back out and tell me it would just be a couple more minutes. 5 minutes later repeat the same move. It was incredibly uncomfortable. I had budgeted enough time to pick up my order go to my parents have a nice dinner and head into work. At an hour and 22 minutes, I had no more time to wait. I was very upset and asked for my money back. The same hostess (there was two equally unapproachable) says to me, ‘It will be out in a minute, you can just wait’ 😂 yes i could hardly believe it myself. My response was short and to the point. ‘I didn’t ask how long it would be, I said I need a refund because I'm leaving.’ This apparently Involves a Manager , and i was forced to wait another 5 minutes for that… oh guess what the manager says to me, ‘oh it will be out in just a minute if you want to wait for it.’ Like he was unaware it was coming up on almost two hours past due. They were very hesitant to give a refund, it was so awkward people were looking at us, it was a little mini drama playing out at the front desk of me repeatedly (3 times) asking for a refund and being assured the food was on its way. I would have waited even longer but i had to go and i was horribly embarrassed over the entire thing. I did get a refund eventually. The back of the house is always important but the front of the house is your first impression. It was a very bad one. People sat down ate and left in the time i was waiting. I don’t think I would care so much if it wasn't for the absolute rudeness of the hostess, and the complete lack of regard from the manager over an issue that at the very least deserved an apology and it was for my mom! I’m so upset by this place and the way they treated me and lied to me and had me uncomfortably wait for so long. In the time I waited I could have heated my grill, seasoned and mixed my meat, pressed my burgers, hand cut my fries , fried them and eaten dinner. I Should have, I make a great burger, but i wanted something better then i could make, i wanted to treat my mom to something special and delicious. ( i did spend the time waiting on the manager to order from red robin two burgers to go, which they had ready as soon as I arrived so don’t worry my mom got fed even if I was late to work and basically threw food at her and ran out the door)

Altura Bistro (Anchorage) This is my first review and first time eating at Altura. I would describe it as a seafood and steakhouse . You get free bread and butter. Which were yummy , the bread was warm, soft and fluffy and the butter was whipped with black salt. The service was excellent. The servers were attentive and the food came fast and perfectly timed. Such as we finished the bread , the app came , we finished the app, the entrees came . We ordered .... Drinks : wine based cocktails. It was a good drink and squeeze the lime in the drink and it's better appetizer : pork belly . Pork belly has crispy ends and juicy inside. It was on top of a bed of cabbages that had vinegary dressing. Entree: chicken confit . I liked the ravioli and the chicken was cooked perfectly with crispy skin. It was saltier than I liked. New York steak . Cooked perfectly to medium rare and delicious . It came with potatoes. Dessert: creme brulee . It comes with a garlic crumble but it tastes like chocolate which was nice ! Overall a 4.5/5 rating . Would come back again

Sparse servings-don't be hungry. Pretty presentation but not much there. Clipped Wait staff... AMAZINGLY expensive about $200 for -2 people, no dessert, some prawns, just entree w/ scoop of mashed potatoes and a taste of veggie and 2 coffee (no refills there, of course, just french press available)...rather austere and simplistic for ambiance. Not impressed with pretty as much as a satisfying meal...which it really wasn't.

We thought we was ordering the same thing we've order in the past 4 visit. When we noticed it wasn't the same we asked about it and then asked for something different. We didn't mind paying for all meals since Logan didn't wanna upset the manger. The part I didn't like was that Logan gas lighted us about working there for 3 years and what we wanted has never been on the menu. So I pulled it up on the website and showed him the picture of the meal that I've always ordered and he acted offensive about it. Which had me lost because I showed him proof that we didn't make it up. And from looking at the website the menu changes every couple of years. The food was great. But because Logan gas lighted me I won't be returning after spending $187.00 for 2 people. Bananas!!

The customer service and communication from this place is lacking. A while back they had a nice looking softshell crab sandwich that the owner had been posting all over social media that we were really excited about. We checked with the owner about how long it would be available, he said until the crab they had ran out but were anticipating several days, perfect. We came by the next day after work and asked at the counter if they still had the softshell crab, they said yes, perfect! We asked for a table for 2, and the hostess told us sorry - the softshell crab is takeout only. Bummer but ok no problem, we'll take it to go. Then she tells us oh no we aren't doing takeout right now. She told us we could stay and order something else or we had to leave, so we left and haven't been back. It was really frustrating that we had driven across town to try something the owner was posting up and down social media but when we showed up they refused to serve it despite still having the crab available.

Scrumptious house made ciabatta bread with a scoop of basil butter. Menu item 'Alaskan Halibut' so fresh it was swimming an hour before being cooked. Dessert - Prosecco cheesecake with raspberry coulis & pop rocks took the meal over the top with taste & beauty. Wish I had purchased an additional dessert to bring home. We found this place by accident on our last night in Anchorage and it was the best meal we had our entire trip. When other reviewers say this is a hidden gem, they aren't kidding. Don't let the strip mall deter you. We started with fresh oysters in a foamy mignonette, and they were fantastic. Then we ate the most delicious brussels sprouts that I think we've ever tasted - so crispy with Asian flavors of miso and soy with cilantro on top. We each ordered fish as our entree. I had black cod and my husband ordered halibut. Both dishes were so good that we shared them. Save room for dessert, if you can. We ended the meal with their dark chocolate torte and ice cream. Their wine list is also quite extensive. Their servers are informative and friendly and they all help each other. Once we returned from our vacation, I knew I had to write a review of Altura. If we return to Anchorage, it will be the first place where I make reservations.

Then we discovered Altura which skyrocketed our spirits! When stepping through the threshold you are greeted by smiling friendly faces looking to make your experience exceptional. Don't let the casual modern ambience fool you the staff is well prepared to answer any questions about the menu. It's a smaller place so it allows them to give each customer the individual attention of a Michelin star restaurant. We had the pork belly, soups, and black cod. All were phenomenal! We would recommend it for any nice date night or business casual and better gatherings, just book ahead. My wife and I recently dined here for the first time to celebrate my birthday and it was a real disappointment for a number of food related reasons. If I spend over $180 for a meal with no alcohol or dessert, I expect much more quality control that we got. The service was great and the atmosphere inside was very good. Here are the meal shortfalls: 1. Started with a bone marrow appetizer that comes in the half-bones with thinly sliced toasted bread as a delivery device. There were two shortfalls with this dish - (a) the bone marrow in the middle of one of the bones was cold - not lukewarm, just plain cold, (b) the toast was noticeably burnt in areas and I don't believe that was a feature. 2. Followed that up with the white prawn bisque, which was pretty good, especially with the nice touch of crunchy unsoggy croutons, but there was only one small piece of shrimp in the bowl, which I expected more than that. 3. I then had the 60-day aged strip steak with potatoes confit and cippolini onion. The steak was very good and cooked per my instructions, the potatoes were acceptable, but the onion was flat out burnt black on the bottom. That could not have been a feature. To be fair, my wife's parmesan gnocchi and red king crab mac n cheese was very good, no complaints there. I do not complain about food in restaurants at the time, generally, because I have worked in the restaurant industry long ago and know how the reaction that that can cause, unknowing to the customer. Overall, this was a very disappointing experience and I don't plan on going back.

Overall: 4.6/5 (dine in) We had a reservation at 7:30 PM so were seated within a few minutes. Our server, Logan, explained the specials of the day as soon as we were seated and handed the menu since these aren't on the menu itself. He also made great red & wine recommendations for our dinner - Louis Jadot Pouilly Fuisse ($14) & Shea, Pinot Noir ($13). Note that there's a 5% alcohol tax. Pork Belly ($17): This tasted like Vietnamese braised pork belly with a bit of a twist. The sauce & the texture was very interesting and different that it was a bit mind boggling. It's really good with the green sauce as well. My husband said this is one of the best pork belly he's had and he's eaten a lot. Sweet Prawn Bisque ($12): This was really good but it was a bit too salty & heavy for me. I felt like I needed to eat it with bread or have it diluted. Duck Pate ($28): Wow, this was super unique and delicious with the thin bread it came with. The red onion marmalade with mustard seed was divine and went well with the duck pate and bread. It was so good, my husband was eating it by the spoonful. We did get pretty full from it but it was worth it. Seared Foie Gras ($24): I didn't enjoy the taste of texture of this foie gras. It was too much for me so I could only eat a little piece with bread. Definitely something you can skip, especially if you have the duck pate. Alaskan Black Cod ($42): This had great reviews on Yelp but it tasted terrible to us. The cod was too fishy that we couldn't even finish it. The dumplings were actually better than the cod sadly. Super disappointed after being so excited to try Alaskan seafood.

Incredible food! Must try. Weekly special burgers and Altura Burgers are the best burgers in town. Their chef must be a genius, the flavors and textures of all the food we have tried there is so amazing fresh, and spot on (including burgers, prawn soup, tri-tip sandwiches, chicken Caesar salad, etc). Need to try the dinner menu more but beyond impressed with lunch. Good curbside 'to go' service and they always get our orders right 100% of the time. Updating-I have now dined in for dinner, the service is 5 star, the food unique and excellent. Although I was surprised for early dinner at 5pm that my husband and I were seated in a corner next to another couple when the whole restaurant was empty, it was awkward. There were at times a long wait for food or menus. My main criticism however is that the ambience is stark and sterile. More could be done to transcend the fact that the bistro is in a strip mall. Still my favorite restaurant in town!

The service was friendly and unhurried. The food was beyond fabulous- We were a party of 2, with a reservation @ 5pm. We arrived about 10 minutes early, and we were seated immediately. The server checked in with us, took our drink order & went over the menu with us. He made sure to give us time to chat & look over the menu & he made some great suggestions. Appetizer: We started with the fresh oysters, and pork belly - the oysters were so fresh & sweet, and the pork belly had a wonderfully sweet bbq sauce, which was cut perfectly by the pickled onion garnish. Salad: I chose the Fenel & Orange salad, and my guest chose the Squash Salad. The combination of feta, orange & fennel I just couldn't get enough of. Main Course: I chose the scallops and risotto, which a side of the mushroom gnocchi. My guest chose the boneless wagyu ribeye, medium rare. The wagyu was amazing & the scallops were savory & delicious. The star however was the seasonal mushroom gnocchi- Wow! Dessert: We finished with a lovely Port that our waiter suggested, accompanied by the Pear Clafoutis, and the earl grey Creme Brule. I'm not usually a dessert person, but these desserts were worth the splurge. Can't wait to come back again!

My wife had a cheeseburger and I had their fish sandwich. The burger was good but a little overcooked. The fish sandwich was very good but the bun was a little big. A little too much bread to protein for me.

This place is a hidden gem. The food is over the top and not what you would expect in anchorage. Dinner, dessert, and everything in between was amazing. If you are in the mood for a high end dining experience I would recommend this place everytime

Went here for date night and it definitely didn't disappoint. Staff was very great with communication and were very helpful and friendly! Atmosphere was pretty chill and great as well. Not to mention the food was absolutely divine. Highly recommend to anyone who wants to try food that's clearly made with the intent of making great quality food for dining in. Can't wait to go back and try their lunch menu!

The service and food are top notch. Very nice atmosphere without being too pretentious. The clafoutis desert with whiskey poached pears was to die for.

I have been there twice. Both times for Dinner. I was very happy with every item we ordered. This place has a quiet atmosphere. You can go fancy or casual. Both times that I went I felt like going in fancy. You can tell the chef put a lot of thought into creating his menu. The food is of exceptional quality! I wouldn't recommend taking little kids unless they are very well behaved. This is a beautiful place for romantic date or a sophisticated family get together. The staff was very professional and cordial.

20/10! The food and service were the best I've ever been to. This is a very busy place, but we never felt like we were neglected. We had asked for the brussel sprout appetizer without cilantro, and when I usually get scuff for it, it wasn't an issue at all! It was responded warmly to "who has the soap taste gene?" When the waiter suggested the soup, he also suggested splitting it between me and my fiance, so we both could have a taste & he brought it to us in two separate bowls. We ordered the brussel sprouts appetizer, the sweet prawn bisque, wagyu ribeye, filet mignon.

Beautiful and extremely clean dining area. The service was extremely attentive. While the place was busy we always felt like we were the priority. The food, for lack of a better term, was a true experience. Some of the most amazing food my fiance and I have ever had. We had the Filet Mignon, Waygu Ribeye, Scallop Bisque, and Brussel Sprouts.

Had a craving for some fine dining, this place was the perfect choice. Everything was spot on from the moment I walked in the door. Had the pleasure of eating "downstairs" and found the atmosphere perfect. It was nice to have space to enjoy a conversation without being ontop of the table next to me. The service was exceptional and the food was exquisite. I will definitely be going back. Might I suggest the King Crab and the Wagyu ribeye...they both melt in your mouth.

The food wasn’t bad, but it wasn’t great either. It was just OK. Both my husband and I finished our plates, but it’s all been done many times. Very lackluster plates with the sauce smear and dollop of this and that. Dishes lacked creativity. Filet was over cooked and under seasoned. Ambiance was lacking. Seemed like an office building by night rather than a classy restaurant with $50 (and up) plates. Our server was very good though and our water glasses were always kept full.

Excellent appetizers. Excellent service. Pretty good atmosphere. Only tried the Halibut as a main course, and I'm giving that a 7.1/10. Flavors didn't match as much as the curated appetizers. Good wine selection as well. All round. Very worth going.

The best food in Anchorage!!! Maybe best meal I’ve ever had. Both of our meals were incredible. Interesting flavors and cooked so well. The atmosphere is a little cheesy but don’t let it lead you astray. The service was also excellent. 100% recommend.
