After 35 years of coming here, I am done. I ordered take out and received burnt toast, burnt potatoes, and an omletter that was so thin it couldn't hold the small amount of fillings that were in it. The prices have gone up and the quality is way down. I'm really disappointed.

It's just a great place all around. I've been coming here since I was in college. Best Breakfast place north of I-95.

Athena Diner in North Haven, CT, is a true gem! They offer a wide variety of menu options, so there’s something for everyone. The staff is incredibly friendly and makes you feel right at home. The atmosphere is cool and inviting, perfect for a casual meal with friends or family. I was also impressed with how clean the bathrooms were, which is always a plus. The prices are very reasonable for the quality and portion sizes you get. And don’t leave without trying the cheesecake—it’s an absolute must-try! I’ll definitely be back. CHEESECAKE!!!

This diner is top tier!!! I stumbled upon this diner last week and I’ve been here everyday since!!! It’s clean, the waitresses are nice and attentive and the food is amazing!

I love that they're open until 11 pm on the weekend. They have a huge menu, everything is really good, and the prices are definitely competitive. I'm not from this side of the state, and I wish there was a diner like this close to me.

First of all, I would personally like to thank the team for great customer service. The Fisherman's Platter was soooo good, and the younger ones enjoyed their broiled fish and salad. Although the pasta dish was not the favorite, we enjoyed a good meal overall. The next time we pass through the New Haven, CT area, we will definitely revisit...especially for the cheesecake (OMG).

This is a beautiful restaurant when you look at it. It’s clean and definitely up to date with design. However I ordered nachos (well overpriced), the beef was not seasoned at all. The gyro was mediocre at best and the feta was given as a block of cheese on the side of the plate. Our waitress didn’t come back very often and we waited a while to see her after we finished our food.

Conveniently located right off of Interstate 91. Diner is clean, modern with an extensive menu. Think "New York City diner", very much has that vibe. Food was very good; portions as expected for a diner (generous). I had the California omelet which had good amount of avocado, cheddar, peppers, onions, tomatoes. We were there on a Sunday around 10a and it was already hopping. By the time we left, there was a line for tables. Seems to be popular with locals. Fast, efficient service, a little gruff as would be expected for a place with quick turnaround. Not a place to linger but an excellent place for hearty meal while traveling through.

Good solid diner. Been looking for a decent one since moving to Wallingford. Finally found it. Looks good inside. Nice Greek folk, as it should be in any well respected diner. Will most certainly be returning.

This place is insane. 9.99 for a microscopic size French toast that is advertised as the larger option. Complete rip off. Not mention they had the place packed beyond capacity it felt at one point we could bearly hear ours selves talk. Overpriced and horrible quality food.

Stopped here for a quick breakfast while in the area for work. I enjoyed the Hash Benedict with home-fries. Would eat here again.

Our server, Mary was fabulous. The food was good, portion was a little bit on the small side and was disappointed that I only got one slice of toast with my omelette. Otherwise, this is a great local spot and glad it was opened on New Year's morning.

Athena Diner II in North Haven, CT, deserves every star! Being family-owned and operated adds a special touch to the experience. Whenever I return home, it remains my favorite spot to dine, evoking cherished memories. A true gem that stands the test of time.

Incredibly overpriced for the poor quality of food they offer

Terrible diner. Bland mushy fries, bland veggie burgers and salads and really anything you can think of. My husband usually inhales basic diner food and even he's written this place off. Overpriced and undercooked. Worst curly fries ever. If you love peanuts you'll love the curly fries.

My wife and I stopped by for lunch on 12 /14/23. we ordered lunch with coffee. When the server brought over our meals she asked if we would like anything else. I said no thanks and that was the last time we saw her until she walked by to take another party's order. The food was delicious and we both wanted pie for dessert. I also wanted another coffee when I had my lunch but she never came back. Doing so I didn't order the pie because I didn't want to stay any longer. It would have been nice to have a second cup. I know when someone reads this they are going to say that they were probably busy. That's no excuse for not coming back to ask if we wanted more coffee.

CAN’T GO WRONG GRABBING A QUICK BITE HERE ONLY COMPLAINT IS NEVER WENT BACK TO 24 HOUR AFTER COVID….. IT USED TO BE ONLY PLACE NEAR ME TO GET A DECENT MEAL WHEN WORKING LATE HOURS.

Ordered here 3 nights in a row . Ordered 3 completely different meals. Not impressed by the food. The pork souvlaki was pretty bland and my pasta was swimming in a pool of water. They're very busy so I wouldn't say there food is bad, they were just convenient for me, so I ordered multiple times. They definitely know how to make a carrot cake. Very very good. I normally wouldn't write a review, as I'm not picky with my food, you cant please everyone, and I understand how busy they were. But because of this passive aggressive circle around the "no", as if I had selected no utensils, there must be some confusion that should be addressed. Uber eats provides no selection for utensils. Although they do provide a neat little note section at the bottom that suggests you ask for utensils if needed. Therefore, I asked for utensils.

We popped in on Sunday around 1:30 with a party of 8. They sat us immediately and even made our special requests with no trouble at all. The waitress was great and our food was hot

Great house salad with grilled chicken. I was a little disappointed in the chocolate cream pie. I should have stuck with a fruit pie. Thankfully I could walk there from the Best Western. I would come back again

My mom and I stopped in for breakfast around 11 on a Saturday morning. They were busy but were able to seat us, and we couldn’t believe we were in and out in 45 minutes - it was great! Our waitress was friendly and attentive, and I also have to say this is one of the cleanest diners we’ve ever been to. Even the windows were sparkling! The strawberry shortcake pancakes were great, and usually I have difficulty finishing a stack of 3, but these were nice and light. My mom liked her eggs benny and hash browns, and the bacon was crispy and had a nice smoky flavor. A solid choice for breakfast on Washington Ave! We’ll have to come back and try them for lunch/dinner.

This diner has been great. I went here when depressed during finals, I have come here with work friends, and I went on a date here. All around solid.

EVERYTIME I CALL , well 90% of time they have phone off hook cuz they can’t handle a lot of people. Terrible!!!

Got 2 different types of pancakes and a breakfast sandwich and all the food was extremely bland and on the small side for the price. The menu prices made no sense either. Both pancake orders were for a shortstack and cost more than what was listed for a normal stack on the menu.

Food is ok, average breakfast for the price, terrible weak coffee. I got seated right behind the hostess desk in the front, and she was super loud and had her phone ringer also loud and ringed constantly.

They were very nice and the food was okay for diner food and my mother loved it so I gave it three stars

It's what you would expect from a diner. The food was average. The service was slightly below average. I think the waitress did her best but they were very busy and appeared to be short staffed. They bought us our food but did not have any clean utensils. So we asked for plastic utensils. She also forgot about part of our order. It's good if you want a quick bite to eat and are not looking for anything special.

This was great!! The food was hot and delicious, the service was 10+! From the time to walk through the door! We were seated fast and we were a big party of 7. The waitress never skipped a beat! Our waitress, Mary, was the absolute best ! She handled our group of 8 like it was 2 ! Breakfast was great and restaurant very clean and bright.

Came from a late doctor's visit, and it was nearly 3 pm, so we were STARVED. My adult son knew what he wanted, but as I hadn't been in a decent New England diner for nearly 22 years (I just returned from living in Texas all that time), I needed time to peruse the extensive menu. The gal who was our waitperson had just started work at the Athena and she was GREAT! She took our drink orders and let me do a LOT of reading... 8 pages worth, in fact. The waitress was in the neighborhood but at no time did I feel she was hovering or smothering us. When I finally put the menu down, she was there and took our meal orders quickly & efficiently. She was engaging throughout our time at the Athena II and went the extra mile on every request. Son had their Hangover Burger (fried egg, bacon & American cheese on a hard roll), and I was amazed that at no time from the time he picked it up until he was done with it, was his mouth empty. I was afraid that he might start inhaling it. Lol! It looked terrific and smelled even better. My Steak Quesadillas were nicely packed (I declined the tomato and requested extra cheddar) with steak and onions, and had some sort of spice mix in them... Mexican, fajita? I dunno what it was, but it certainly enhanced the whole meal. Served with sour cream and a very flavorful salsa. It was all so good that we ordered their dinner special --prime rib-- to take home. It had salad, rolls & butter, and a baked potato with absolutely everything on it (butter, cheese, crumbled bacon & sour cream IIRC). Son declined all veggies & I requested a double order of cole slaw... it's not the creamy kind, unfortunately, but it was on the sweet side. :-) The prime rib was a huge slab of perfectly medium-rare beef, accompanied by cream cheese & horseradish (made by me at home). The one slice fed the two of us quite nicely! All in all, I think most anyone could find an excellent meal at the Athena II... certainly not the cheapest "lunch joint" in town, but I highly recommend it!

Came when actually looking for a new place to eat. Was a great happy accident. The portions are a good size for the prices. Breakfast menu so far is my favorite.

Four of us went for Lunch, 2 had breakfast and 2 lunch. Everyone enjoyed the food and the service was excellent. My only negative comment is the ribeye sandwich was on toast. A sub roll would make more sense.

Wonderful little neighborhood diner with exquisite food, good coffee and occasionally decent conversation. The atmosphere is well-lit, colorful and comforting. The wait staff is on the ball. I especially recommend the Eggs Benedict, and sitting at the counter.

The food at The Athena is very good. And I know due to inflation everyone has raised prices. But a basic burger deluxe at The Athena is now $14. And a soft drink is $3.50.

Very overpriced. Coffee is now 3.50 a cup. Entrees are only a few $$ less than a restaurant. When 2 coffees and 2 bowls of soup cost $20 something is wrong. Answer is owner is making up for lost profits during Covid. Of course he received his non taxable PPP loan and ERC funds. Because of the overpricing your tip is more. I used to always tip 20%. Now it’s 10%. I’m not there to supplement an employees wages. Let management do that.

I hadn't been here in about 20 yrs. Decor has been redone since then, and looks great. Unlike many diners, they still have a full diner menu. They used to have the best spanakopita, and still do! Friendly wait staff, excellent service.

Milkshakes a bit freezer burned, but food exactly as one would want from a diner. Can't argue with the hours.

Good gluten free options including french toast and pancakes. Gryo pita bread could have been better but the atmosphere and service were great. Clean restaurant!

Had a late doctor's appointment and came out just STARVED! I knew the diner was just down the road and my adult son goes there often with his Dad, so we headed to the Athena II Diner on Washington Ave in North Haven. This diner did not disappoint in any way, shape or form. We were greeted immediately upon entering, got to pick our table, and had our server at our table almost before we were! LOL! I needed quite a bit of time to run through the menu as I haven't been in a real, live, done-it-this-way-all-along *diner* in 20+ years... it was like reading a well-loved novel. Ahhhh. ~~Home again, home again, jiggity-jig!~~ We wound up ordering what may be the largest and (from the looks of it) most juicy cheeseburger on the face of the planet on my son's part, and I had the steak quesadilla. Son thoroughly enjoyed his cheeseburger and curly fries (really good from my sampling) and while the quesadilla was pretty bland on its own, with the toppings (sour cream, salsa and some guacamole) provided it became a really great meal. I will say I sorta "customized" my quesadilla by subtracting all peppers (I'm a heat wussy when it comes to peppers), and adding fried onions... it was great! The service was *outstanding*! We had a great waitress who was engaging and enthusiastic... "available" but didn't smother us with attention. She may have mentioned she was brand new to the diner staff. Extra napkins showed up unbidden, as did soda (son) and iced tea (me) refills. We wound up also ordering, to take-home, a prime rib dinner, and between the three meals with a fair amount of details each, she got everything exactly right. So much better than mass-produced fast food, kwim? The prime rib wasn't quite as medium-rare as I would have liked, but I can take care of that next time. 😉 And there *will* be a next time. LOL! Highly recommend the Athena II Diner... for any meal, any time of day or night!

Food was good but we ordered 3 sandwiches Patty melt was done correctly Rueban had Swiss tomato and raw onions no thousand islands dressing or sour kraut We ordered a tuna melt only to get home and find a turkey melt in the bag So we were disappointed Normally they are on it but not last night

Terrific food and service! Our server was on top of everything for all four of us. Lots of gluten free options, but alas, the fries aren't in a dedicated fryer, however, they looked like really good fries and others agreed. I normally opt for Greek food at this kind of diner, but I had a great roast beef club on gf bread that wasn't skimpy on the beef or bacon. Very reasonable prices and prompt service. Also very clean, well lit, and plenty of room for a bigger group. We would definitely choose this again when we're in the area so I can try some of the Greek dishes!
