ALWAYS love coming here for lunch when I’m anywhere near the area. The food is always on point, well priced, and the owner is super friendly

Since finding this place on my way to work, it has become a go to place. The Gryros are meaty and bursting at the pits seams! Chicken Parm dinner and 1/2 Greek chicken dinner are satisfying and feed several people. Owner is rock solid and runs a good business. My next contract takes we out of Illinois… so blessed to have found this place.

Come here a lot but never took the time to review, gyros are amazing, always fresh, hot, juicy, and very good quality meat, best you can get around and a very good price compared to Pop's or Nicky's, very good and courteous service, clean area, definitely gives off a very down to earth, local atmosphere, which makes me appreciate it even more

This place is the LOCAL HOT SPOT! With a menu that includes some great comfort food like burgers, fries, gyros, greek chicken, italian beef sandwiches, chicago dogs and more...there is something tasty for everyone! The food comes out hot & delicious! The service is great. They are so friendly and welcoming to their customers. If you want food done right, THIS IS the place to come. The Greek chicken was so tasty and filled with flavor. The burgers are tall with all the fixings. I was deeply impressed with the food at this hidden gem on 127th Street.

Always well prepared food that always taste great. We've dined here for over 20 years since our kids were small because we love the food. The dining area is just for utility (not beautiful but just an old cafe) so their focus is on the food. The traditional menu items have been consistent for years. They have the best home-made humus.

We’ve lived in the area for some time and just recently tried Athens for the first time. The only thing I’m upset about is that we haven’t been eating here for years! The food is always on point, and the service is prompt and pleasant. The Greek chicken dinner is amazing and the portions are huge! We’ve tried lots of stuff on the menu, including the Chili-Mac (which is fantastic) and the “cheesy cream of chicken rice” soup that is an excellent little twist on their normal cream of chicken rice soup (which is also fabulous by the way). The Italian beef is better than any of the “big” named places, and is flavorful and tender. The gravy is very well seasoned, but not so much that it becomes “spicy” like one of the well known places. Get the beef sandwich, right now…go ahead, I’ll be waiting right here! They also offer catering, which we used for our 4th of July party that we hosted yesterday. The amount of food was unreal! No one went home hungry and there were leftovers for those that wanted them. Mike even went out of his way to open on a Sunday to do the catering for us! TRY THIS PLACE RIGHT NOW!!!!

I had mine delivered, so I can't tell you about the restaurant itself. What I can tell you is that, looking at the menu, I was surprised at the variety of different choices. I ordered the gyro plate, cheese fries, and a drink and was a bit dismayed at the $30 price tag....until I got my order. The portions were sufficient to feed 3 people! Huge pitas, a mountain of perfectly seasoned meat that was melt-in-your-mouth tender, and plenty of onions and tomatoes. This is my new go-to place when I come to Alsip.

This Philly cheese steak was so good I paused to leave a review. I don't know why I haven't been here before, but I know better now. I'll be back to review my other items after I eat this. 🤣🤷🏾‍♀️

By far one of the BEST burgers I've EVER had!!! Hand packed burger. Not frozen!! I had the bacon double cheeseburger and it was PERFECT!! The construction over here has really hurt the business. So PLEASE frequent this establishment!!! And the homemade soups are TO DIE for!!!! Everything is amazing here!!!

This place is by far the filthiest, dirtiest restaurant that I have ever visited. Just look at the table tops which are dirty and sticky. The floor next to the mop boards is black with dirt as well as grime. The walls are extremely dirty and are in serious need of a paint job. Look under the cooler and you will be shocked to see how dirty it is where they store some of the food. The woman behind the counter is not friendly at all and looks like she is sleep deprived. If the dining area is dirty what does the kitchen area look like where they cook the food? The food is cheap but the cleanliness of the restaurant gives me pause for great concern.

I got the Greek Salad and it was so delicious and fresh. I will definitely come back here to try other things on their menu!

Customer service was fantastic!!! The cashier and chef helped me with my car bc it wouldn't start. The lady got her jumper cables and the chef helped jump my car without hesitation Phenomenal food and great service.

I was in Chicago and I asked for a recommendation, what a lucky find. First of all the food is amazing best Italian beef sandwich I’ve ever had in my life. Not to mention how cool all the nostalgic pictures around the restaurant are, the staff let’s just say the owner she is an amazing woman who takes her job seriously and is super kind hearted OK and she loves dogs which was a bonus

Idk why everyone says the food is so good. I live right next door and won't eat there. I ordered an Italian beef and it came on a hotdog bun with a slice of cheese. Tired it again a few months later this time I tired a burger because its hard to mess it up, but the meat was unseasoned, and was very greasy. Would not recommend.

A friend catered Athens’ Greek chicken, rice, potatoes and salad for a dinner party a couple days ago and OMG I’m in Love! I was blown away by each dish! I had low expectations figuring it would be tasteless as usual but EVERYTHING tasted homemade just like my Greek neighbor ‘mom’ used to make. And believe me that is a HUGE achievement becuz I have eaten all over trying to find a restaurant that measures up to that authentic flavor. Ordered the Mediterranean Platter for 4 for Mother'd Day. It was excellent and could easily have served 6-8 people. Good variety and great flavor. Ordered 2 sides of chips they make onsite and had to wait awhile, but they are so good it was worth it. If you are a hummus fan, this is the place for you.

We have been going to the Athen's Cafe for many years. It is a great spot for Mediterranean food.. We have ordered it for parties, recommended it to friends. It's only caveat is, no ambiance. (But you cannot eat ambiance.) Staff are incredibly friendly! People, including the two of us, are always extremely happy with the quality of the food and amount. There is always enough for another meal at home.

I used to work in Robbinsdale in 1998-2000 and eat here 3 times a week. The chef/owner? ...is from the Old Country and knows his stuff. When food got routine, he'd make something not on the menu and it was fantastic. None of the meat is pre package as in 90% of all Med. restaurants. They do their own marinades and soups. I was nostalgic and went back in May 2018. The dinning room was falling apart, furniture doesn't match, paint peeling off everything, staff was tired, no music. Furniture was falling apart. I like small, ethnic, neighborhood, shabby-chic, so I went back in May 2018. The food was still almost as good, but it needs to have a full renovation after 20 years.

Gyro had plenty of meat but the pita bread was not the norm. Sort of fell apart towards the end. But it was tasty. Maybe should get the plater. The chicken gyro not so good, it was watery, filled the basket up, also too much curry which doesn't seem so Greek but more India. All in all nice people, good gyro.

This is the best kept secret restaurant! The food is exceptional and there are tons of regular customers, a true testament to quality.

Fun place to get good Greek for very little money. Order at the counter and the food is brought out to you. Large portions so you may end up with a to-go box. Had the meat platter combo the wife had the veggie platter combo - less than $20 with a $2 tip!

Came here on a recommendation and so glad I did. Went back every weekend for basically all of April. The original gyro is amazingly addicting and their fries have some delicious seasoning on them. Going to miss this place when I leave town.

This spot was a spin off from Holy Land Deli & Grocery on 25th & Central in north Minneapolis-which is amazing too. Athen's is now at least one owner later, but the menu is the same, the food is still great. It's our go-to place for take out when we don't want to cook. It helps that we live nearby. If I get a Gyro sandwich for lunch, I usually don't need to eat dinner. Meaning huge portions & reasonable prices. Great hummus too. Tonight it's the Gyro platter for me & the Athenian Chicken dinner for my wife. Yum!!

We have gyros every couple of weeks and a good coupon in the local paper. The are bigger than any in the area and full of meat. We'll keep going back.

We've dined in once and had take out 3 times. All four times, it was right on the money! So awesome! Such great food. Spiced just right and never too salty.
