I visited the Auburn Cafe for the first time and was sad that I had just learned about this place. It was delicious. We had flaming cheese and grape leaves... AMAZING! We also had a chicken gyro 🥙 and an original gyro 🥙 both fantastic. Our servers name was Shelia and she took very good care of us and made us feel very welcomed. I will definitely be visiting again soon and I would advise anyone that likes great Greek food to do the same.

So many Mediterranean/Middle Eastern restaurants don't serve lamb, so when I get a taste for delicious, authentically-seasoned chops, my go-to is Auburn Cafe. Tucked away in an unassuming building in Ecorse, Auburn prepares and serves Greek food thwe way it should be done. We started with melt-in-your mouth saganaki and moved onto the lamb chop lunch special - you get three for lunch and five for dinner. Mine was cooked medium-well; my friend's was medium-rare. Neither of us had any complaints about the meat, the cukes, tomatoes, and feta cheese slab. Make sure you order the side of lemon potato slices, which are served hot. The service was excellent and the place was clean, and we left already planning our next visit.

Food was garbage I will never go back there again

Everything was delicious! I was really craving saganaki and a gyro, so we decided to try this place out since we've been told by many people how great it is. It did not disappoint! The saganaki had a perfect crispness around the entire block of it yet it will nice and melty on the inside. They use the real cheese, too! We also tried the 3 dip sampler. All 3 dips are homemade. The tzatziki one was spicy, but the spicy feta dip was not. It had to be the garlic. We loved it, though. The gyro meat was great. I opted to get a salad instead of the potatoes and it was huge! My husband stuck to the potatoes and I cannot say enough good things about them. They were so lemony and tasty. The waitress so friendly. She really delivered the food promptly, too. She kept the pita bread coming also! We will absolutely be back.

We came to The Auburn Cafe with a party of 12, We had reservation. Everybody enjoyed their meals from the steak to the Grape leaves and kabobs. The kabobs come with only the meat cooked, veggies raw on the side. The Lemon potatoes were awesome. The service was very good and fast for as busy as it was. It was a nice evening out. Not a real fancy place but good food. Will visit again.

Yesterday I saw news at nine was featuring this restaurant so my friend and I went on Thursday I was very disappointed I suggested it because they had the pork shish kabob which she loves she was very disappointed they were dry not tender at all we did mention it to our server who was very nice I ordered the lamb chops very good but fatty she has been to Greece many times since her husband is from there and she speaks the language we usually go to peguas in Detroit but wanted to try a different location over priced pork came with a onion slice tomato and a piece of feta my lamb chops came the same way flaming cheese and greek salad was delicious but 83 dollars is alot I'm really disappointed and I drove 45 minutes each way I'm glad I try it but I won't be back and we did tip our server 20 percent its only fair sad

The Lambchops were suggested and I ordered them. The Chops were cooked perfectly and tasted awesome, but for $35, the cost of the Chops, you get nothing else with it other then a slice of onion, some cucumbers, a few tomato slices and a hunk of feta cheese and a few strips of Pita bread. No vegetable, no salad, nothing to make it an actual dinner. I wouldn't order it again, not worth the money. When I spend $35 dollars for a meal I damn well better leave stuffed.

First experience at Auburn Cafe It was the busiest night of the week at Auburn Cafe The atmosphere, our server Melissa and her colleague Josie embraced my family like their family. The food was out of this world. My sister was visiting from Northern Ontario and we all agree Auburn Cafe did not disappoint. This experience was hands down the best night ever!!!

Excellent Greek food. And this is where the Greeks go outside of detroit. Service is great wine menu is very limited. The food is fresh and top-notch but you're going to pay for it. Considering the location and dining room you'll end up paying between 50 and 70 dollars per person

Had to wait a while, but food came quickly once seated. We were a party of 6. Proportions are very large, lots of take homes. The food was pretty Americanized, I was there with Greek family. I was bummed there was no typical Moussaka or Patstitsio. However, I can get that anytime so no biggie. The food was very good. The Lamb chops were outstanding!

Been dining here for many years. I always order the lamb chop dinner. It’s worth every penny of the $35.00 cost. Glad it’s not located in the Wyandotte/Southgate Area. It would be crowded, and hard to get a table. No complaints only complements. I dined here again in January, 2024, with a friend. He was very pleased with his lamb chop dinner. I was too. I have never had a bad lamb chop dinner from this restaurant.

Found out about this hidden food gym from my husband's friend. Been twice now highly recommend the rice bowls "lamb" is what I've had both times I've went . And my Husband Tried the Chicken Rice Bowl, and he Loved it as Well .

Has to be one of my favorite restaurants in the world. They just do everything right. I've been to 5 star restaurants all over the world including Detroits Joe Muers and when it comes to great food, the Auburn Cafe is second to none. If you like salmon, try the Greek salad with salmon. You will never get a better piece of salmon. Just amazing.

Place used to be great. However, GREEDflation has struck this establishment so badly they think 7 fried shrimp should cost $40 WE will never be back.

Service was okay nothing compared to the last time we were there it was good service from the one girl, but their food leaves much to be desired anymore if Sam was still alive it sure as heck wouldn't have came out like it was a charge for the rice I mean it's just not the same as it used to be the lamb chops were chewy and it was like they were dirty they retired so bad and the one thing that I always noticed when I go in this restaurant is freezing damn cold you can't sit and enjoy your food without freezing!

Stopped in tonight was seated right away. I ordered a large order of the stuffed Grape Leaves. They were served with a wonderful lemon sauce and a side basket of fresh bread. My dinner was delicious and I saved some for the next day because they get better the second day after sitting in the sauce. Very high quality and a good value. I will definitely be coming back to try other menu items

Cool underground feeling vibe but super expensive! I ordered the chicken dinner and it was like $25 for two pieces of chicken breast and some chopped raw vegetables; like a slice of a tomato, a slice of cucumber and a chop of onion not worth the money whatsoever. Oh and a piece of pita bread.

We have gone here for over 30 years. It has always been the same, great food, friendly service and lots of murals of Greece painted upon the walls. Just go, because if you don't you are missing one of the greatest meals you will ever have.

Don’t be like me and take years to give this place a try because it’s incredible. Some of the best Tatziki (get some on the side for the lemon potatoes)i I’ve ever had and the spicy feta dip is amazing too. Not only was the food amazing but the service was stunning. Make sure you ask for Shelia if you go.

I've been eating here for much of my adult life and will truly miss it when I move. The food is consistently great. The lambchops and tomato salad are my favorites. Ask for the brown sauce for the meats. The staff feels like family.

I been going to Auburn when Sam was alive. First time we ever got bad service. Been going there over 40 years or more. My husband went in there when it was coffee shop. My family from Rouge and my husband Leo Natt from Ecorse. Then we got married and we live in Ecorse. We still be going but not the lady we had tonight. With tip and all 80.00. We tip good for good service but not tonight just what we have too. They wasn’t that busy. Unhappy very. Karen (Dupuie) Natt

I’m from the downriver area been here for 23 years. I have never heard of this restaurant. I am an avid fan of Pegasus both downtown Detroit and St Clair Shores. We decided to try this location out since we read the reviews. Not impressed. Waitress was rude no personality. Atmosphere average. Bathroom not so nice. On to the food.. From seeing the posts we order the gyros combo 2 Greek salads with gyros and chicken saganaki and 2 Greek white wines kouros. Chicken was dry. Gyros was thin dry and crispy like a cracker. Dressing was average.. I tasted good seasonings and lemon. Potatoes with the gyros sandwich were soggie. They were fresh cut but not cooked to perfection. The best part about our visit was the saganaki and wine. The senate Coney Island has a better salad. True Greek food I would suggest Pegasus in the Detroit Metro area. Lunch cost me $107 then a $20 tip.

Okay, very unassuming place. In a very unassuming location, but once inside you are greeted by a very friendly host and sat according to your needs. Yeah a little older inside than some people may like, but once you are greeted by the waitstaff and shown great customer service you know you are in for a treat. The food was fantastic. Me and my wife got the couples dinner, and they accommodated us because we do not drink with a substitution of another appetizer. So I got the lamb chops and she got the salmon. Salads(greek), soups(lemon rice), garlic sauce and the saganaki was excellent. The Greek dressing had to be home made and the feta cheese was fresh and not overwhelming. Potatoes was good also. Please come and see for yourself, I do not think you will be disappointed.

I've been coming here for over 25 years! Excellent food and service everytime. We like to start off with some flaming cheese, a Greek salad, and pita bread followed by the chicken dinner! Make sure to ask for extra brown sauce! To cap off a perfect meal, I highly recommend the custard desserts!!!

On this visit to Downtown Ecorse, I stopped into a well-known local Greek Eatery, the Auburn Cafe. I was in the mood for something simple and fast since I was famished. The interior brings you back a few decades, but don't let the lack of a modern touch fool you, they make great food here. Once I was seated, my server recommended something that I haven't had in years, a traditional Greek Soup called Avgolemono, which is a Lemon Rice Soup. If you have travelled or dined on the cuisines such as Greek, Arab, Sephardic Jewish, Turkish, Balkan and Jewish-Italian then you that Avgolemono is a family of sauces and soups made with egg yolk and lemon juice mixed with broth, heated until they thicken. The Auburn does a great take on this dish. Next was an old favourite, Pork Souvlaki or Pork Kabob. The grilled, marinated and tender pork was very good. My server before my meal came out told me that I should the 'Brown Sauce'. She was right as it did add some complexity and flavour to my meal. I honestly didn't know what to expect when trying Greek Cuisine in the Detroit area, but I can say that Auburn Cafe keeps it real. if you're looking for a great greek meal and experience, give them a shot.

We went there Friday night place. We order basically the same things every time we visit, We order 2 shish kabobs, lemon potatoes and a small Greek salad food was great. Our waitress was to say the least, non existent. The matradee basically did the waitresses job until the end when we got our bill. Gave her my credit card paid bill and left. Thought bill was a bit high ,checked the next morning and was double charged for potatoes and salads. Called back the said so sorry.Hmmmmm

Typically I am not one to leave a review like this but I felt compelled to after the service my family and I received after coming in for dinner this evening. We decided to come in for dinner to celebrate my father's birthday as this has been one of our family's favorite restaurants for almost 40 years. We were greeted and seated promptly and at first service was pleasant with our server Margie. We typically order our meal family style and I thought it was quite odd that when we ordered a large salad she was very adamant that we order a medium instead of a large. We explained to her that we enjoy the salad very much be she insisted we order a medium which we then agreed to, but we ended up having to order an additional small salad as it wasn't enough as we expected. Not the biggest deal but an extra expense added to the bill. Margie also was not very attentive which at first wasn't a big deal until our food came out. We are used to receiving a plate of vegetables with our kabob and when she dropped off our food we were missing serving utensils and our vegetables. When she came back to check on us after a while I asked her if we could have some serving utensils and my parents brought up how we were missing our vegetables. She told us that the vegetables do not come with the meal being served family style which we all thought was odd as this is how we have always been served our food. She responded quickly that she could grab us a plate of them and walked off. This is where I felt she was annoyed and made her presence around our table very absent. We never received any utensils for our main food besides the silverware we had already ate off of. Every time that she did make her was back to our table she was very short with us and I could feel that she did not want to be there. When it was time to have our bougasta she brought us our check and threw our forks on top of the table in front of us instead of handing them to us or putting them on our plates which I felt was rude. This is the last time we saw her as we had to ask the other waitress to run our check after we waited a while for her to return even though it was not busy in the restaurant. Although our service wasn't the worst this is definitely not what we are used to when dining here. It was also upsetting as instead of being able to focus on celebrating my father's birthday we were focused on the service that we feel like we didn't deserve. This is upsetting as we used to really enjoy coming here as a family but we feel like we won't be frequenting ourselves here any longer.

For YEARS I had heard how delicious and amazing the Greek chicken salad was here. Unfortunately, my experience was very disappointing! First of all, one of the most expensive salads I've had. I ordered two large salads, the total came to $40! Second, it didn't have much flavor. We won't be going back.

I'm all about the Customer Service Experience and I promise you Josie nor Audrey will disappoint, they are incredible. I enjoy coming to the establishment with my husband or mother and it never disappoints. Thanks for cooking when I want to relax at the end of my day.

Very unhappy with food and service. The shish kabob was dry and tough. The gyro meat was Extra dry and over cooked. The service from our waitress was terrible. The only good thing was the chicken pita, not over cooked and very moist. Will not be back!

Ordered a Greek chicken salad chicken was cold and old .. The lady that worked there told me that the chicken was a couple of days old because they were close sense New year eve .. I did get my money back The small chicken Greek salad was $18 which is just ridiculous for iceberg lettuce With Little toppings..

Took my wife there for dinner on her Birthday, We dine there every now and then, great steaks, my wife asked for well done steak and it was med-rare, that would be the first thing. The second thing is the reason for the title, never had this happen there before, but, the bill was pricier, but, ok. I was milling around the house the next morning and I received 2 text messages about a few fraudulent charges on card. My bank account was cleaned out and had a high negative balance, needless to say, it happened on a Friday night and the alert came in the next day, so,I have to go the whole weekend beyond flat broke. The bank told me that it was last time the card was used there, which I knew that, So with that being said it is a matter of "HE SAID,SHE SAID". Just beware when using your credit/debit card here.

We came in while they were serving a very large party on top of the regular busy Saturday rush and they did a great job of communicating the wait, then finding us a table. The food was delicious as always and the service was fast and friendly.
