I came here specifically for a cuppa coffee, and the coffee was really tasteless. I didn’t feel like it had anybody was very weak. I would like to be fair in my review however I did not have any of the food and they look like they were baked fresh. Also, the atmosphere is nice. There’s a lot of space here to hang out.

I went to this cafe while in Sitka on a cruise. It was very nice. It was good food and drink and the staff were very polite and helpful.

Terrific coffee and baked goods. Don’t miss the home made bagels that we the best I have had outside of NYC! The chocolate swirl pound cake was also very tasty.

Great early morning coffee and sweets

Visiting from Portland OR for a few weeks for work. Best coffee in town by a landslide, no competition. Edit - my flight got canceled and I came back this morning for the same latte and it was no where near as good, quality is clearly barista dependent. Still a very cute spot though!

Drip coffee was not great. Needs to be stronger. Nice staff!

Super chill vibe. It was pretty tucked away so I’m glad they’re so well reviewed on Google. The great reviews are well deserved. Double-Shot Cortados for the win. Affordable. Highly recommend when you’re in Sitka.

I am in love with this cafe. In fact, this coffee shop/bookstore is my happy place. The smell of pages and coffee is incredible, the staff is lovely, and the owners are wonderful people. As a local, I visit this coffee shop many times year round to have their rotating specials and see the seasonal goodies. I will always recommend this spot to visitors, as the locals already know what a staple this coffee shop and bookstore is to the community. Thank you for all you do!

So glad we followed our hosts suggestion to eat here! They had soup in a really delicious bread bowl. If I lived here, I’d want to eat there often and just hang out. It’s definitely a cool place – and It’s connected to the bookstore, which increases it’s coolness factor.

Backdoor Cafe was fantastic! The staff was friendly, fun, and fast! Their coffee and chocolate zucchini bread were so good. I would definitely come again!

Only got a black coffee. It was delicious and the bagels smelled/looked amazing. Chill spot to tuck away and read.

Our cruise stopped in Sitka and I love visiting local coffee houses. If you are looking for a hole-in-the-wall local place with great coffee, this is the place! Their coffee was top notch and delicious! 10/10 enjoyed it and recommend!

An ideal combo—a bookstore with a cool coffee shop in the back. Hence the name Backdoor coffee. They have wonderful Ravens Brew coffee and an always delicious assortment of pastries, premade sandwiches, and cookies. Immaculate place to stay dry and enjoy a cup of Joe.

Reasonable price, great service. They also have mugs for people drinking inside!

A hidden gem you must check out when visiting Sitka! Tucked away in the back of a cool bookstore. The staff is great and the coffee is amazing! If you can’t find it on your own ask one of the locals. You’ll be glad you did!!

In Sitka visiting friends...they say, "Backdoor Cafe" is the best coffee shop in town, so we check it out and end up stopping by every morning. Great coffee. Excellent scones. Nice atmosphere. Friendly staff.

This is literally a cafe at the “back door” of a book shop. And it’s a hidden gem! You can access it via the back of the building, or through the bookstore. The staff are all so super friendly and nice (just like all the people we met in Sitka) and the cafe is cute and has a lovely cosy feel. Lots of indoor seating and there are a few outdoor tables/ chairs too. The coffee was excellent- they definitely know all about their beans and how to make great espresso. The cabinet is packed with so many delicious sweet treats, and freshly made doorstopper sandwiches too- so make sure you come with a big appetite! A great spot for coffee or lunch.

Excellent cappuccino and friendly service. We also had a delightful cinnamon roll and an extremely informative conversation with a 30 year resident of the island. The people who live here that love coffee likely come here rather than highliner.

Short stay in Sitka..ordered coffee, hot chocolate, bagels and a muffin. Everything was fresh and delicious. Would 10/10 recommend. Staff super friendly and welcoming.

I called a week in advance to have a Berry Pie made for a co-workers birthday and the gal said they are not taking special orders because they are short staffed! Two years in a row!!! Just tell me you are out of the pie business that would be easier to swallow. I try to shop local every chance I get but this is the kind of local service we get, I'll be going elsewhere.

Backdoor has a great vibe and even better coffee and snacks. It is a great place to take a break from exploring the town of Sitka or to read a few pages from a book you just bought at the adjoining bookstore Old Harbor Books. Lots of local people hang here so you know it is a good place.

Fabulous mocha! Cute shop with friendly people

This small cute coffee shop is in the back of the bookstore. It's pretty busy, but the coffee is made fairly quickly. Prices are actually lower than the other coffee places in the area. There is a seating area, seats about 25, but it's pretty dark, not exactly conducive to a relaxing atmosphere, but it's not bad, just there's no view. There are two entrances, back entrance has a restroom. The girls tending to this place are very nice, acknowledge you right away and quick. The coffee was tasty, apparently it's raven brews, the competing one from Heritage, and the place smells like freshly baked cookies.

During our recent trip, I ordered a Mocha from Backdoor Cafe, and it did not disappoint. This was absolutely the best mocha I've had in my life! My husband got a drip coffee which he said was very good as well.

I love the Backdoor Café. Its informal nature, understated ambiance, and stimulating atmosphere capture the character of Sitka. My novel Thrill Chase begins behind the corner table where Jason, my commercial fisherman/retired dope dealer protagonist, awaits a friend. It’s winter, and there’s a storm howling outside. But everyone ignores the weather, preferring to enjoy the warmth and aroma of fresh pastries and quinoa vegetable soup. Rubber boots squeak on the wet wooden floor. Rustling jackets, cheerful chatter, and kitchen clanks buzz in the background. A morose morning light slants through the window, and the wind is wailing against it.

The best veggie sandwich I've ever eaten, plus other tasty treats. Definitely will be back!!

If it wasn’t for the coffee being good I would give this place 2 stars, strictly on friendliness and service. This was the first place my friend and I chose to go in Sitka and it was the worst experience we had while there. The 2 ladies that were working that day were EXTREMELY rude and when we said thank you to the lady who gave us our coffee she said NOTHING. Speaking to locals in the area i guess this is the norm for this lady but if that’s the case she shouldn’t be in customer service. Employees like that make a good business look bad and for both her and the other ladies attitude, we did not give them our business for the rest of our trip. There are several other good coffee places in the area with very nice employees. Such a shame.

My kind of coffee! But I am picky. I hate Starbucks because it always tastes a bit burnt to me ( not that Sitka has one - thank god) The Back Door is like an extension of the book store so how perfect is that ! Their pies are awesome, along with dandy treats and daily lunch specials. I’ve never had a lunch I didn’t like !!!

Step one: buy yourself an awesome book in the bookstore. Step two: walk through and then treat yourself to some of their amazing coffee and a snack. I had the flourless chocolate chip and oat cookie; so tasty and fresh! I'd have loved to spend more time here just sitting, reading a book and enjoying my coffee, it just feels so relaxing!

My idea of a great coffee shop. Barista pulled an excellent double shot, the pecan bar was like crack, and there was a quirky literary journal waiting on the table for me to browse.

Awesome baked good, great coffee, good vibe. The gentlemen that made my coffee this morning was a sweetheart. Great place to sit and get some writing or reading done.

Everytime I visit the Back Door it's like family, super inviting and food/drinks are always on point, absolutely love this place..

This is a great place that places you with the natives of Sitka. I was even able to observe a group there to get the vote out for an upcoming local election. Everything here is prepared the same day. Once the food is gone, it's gone. Get there early for lunch.

Sitka surprise: espresso coffee culture in Oz is significant, so finding Back Door came as a very nice surprise to meet our espresso coffee needs.

Hot damn if this place doesn't have some delicious bagels that they make in house. Don't wait too long because I hear they run out, but they usually aren't ready until a half hour to an hour after they open. Coffee and service was good, but it was mainly about those delicious bagels. I've heard delicious things about the other baked goods as well and I plan on trying them (and more bagels) next time I'm in Sitka.

Love this coffee shop in the back of the bookstore. Fresh and homemade treats, sandwiches grenade and ready to grab and go. Too bad I missed the last cookie the 2nd time I was there. But there was pie, delicious chai, and gorgeous benches. And a famous author....lol!!

Everyone is nice that is behind the counter. Their deserts are really good, and the reason they deserve 5 stars. Definitely worth a visit. Their pie is fantastic and my wife really likes the scones.

We stopped for a quick visit as my brother-in-law stated this one of his favourite places to visit while in Sitka, Millie and I loved the place. Quiet, great food and a bookstore that kept us browsing for longer than we planned. We ate, bought a few books and added The Back Door to our list of places to revisit.

This is my favorite lunchtime coffee shop in Sitka. Staff are wonderful and they make delicious food and mochas. The atmosphere is friendly and I almost always see people I know.
