The food here was great, especially the stuffed meatballs and they have a solid Margherita pizza. Service was good too, our waiter was very nice and bubbly, and I’d definitely visit again if I’m in the area. The space is a bit tight, but that’s pretty normal for restaurants in Center City. Overall, a good experience!

My daughter and I celebrated birthdays with a show and early dinner at Barbuzzo. It was our first time to dine here. We were fortunate to visit during restaurant week. The menu had several very good choices making it hard to pick. The portions were remarkably large compared to similar events at other restaurants. The arancini was the best I've ever had. The bronzino was crispy and cooked to perfection! Top it off with a good cocktail and 2 wonderful desserts . The atmosphere was a bit dark for my taste but minor detail. We will definitely return!

We recently had dinner at Barbuzzo, and it was a wonderful experience. My husband and I started off with drinks— He the Bird Watcher Cider, which wasn’t too sweet but had a nice lightness to it, while I enjoyed the Lord Hobo Boom Sauce, a fruity and flavorful beer that paired perfectly with the meal. For appetizers, we tried the Whipped Ricotta, which was incredibly creamy and delicious. It was a great way to start the evening. For the main course, we shared the Calabrese Pizza, which had a fantastic balance of spicy and sweet flavors—truly an amazing combination. Overall, we loved our experience and would definitely recommend Barbuzzo for a great dinner out. The food, drinks, staff and ambiance all came together to make it a memorable night.

This place is AMAZING. My husband and I were traveling for work in Philly and discovered this place by accident on our first night there walking around the downtown to look for a place to dine in. We quickly looked through the photos and menu on google map (thanks, fellow reviewers!) and decided to head in. We ended up going here once more on your last night. Food was awesome. We tried salads, pastas, a plate, a pizza, and deserts. Everything (except for the seasonal soft shell crab) was GOOD. Ingredients tasted fresh and flavorful, presentation was neat, and seasoning was just right (not too salty or sweet) and soo good. I liked how their food had a little of twist in terms of ingredient or seasoning, which made their food taste unique and so yummy. Service wise, we got served by the same server both times (sorry we didn’t get your name), and he was very welcoming and attentive. Additionally, we sat at their open kitchen bar on our first visit. The kitchen was so fun to look at, and wasn’t too smoky or smelly. I love watching professional chefs cook, but often times dislike restaurants with open kitchen due to too strong of smoke and smell. This place was a pleasant surprise in this aspect as well. Lastly, their price wasn’t too high compared to the quality and quantity of food served. It’s well worth it. I would HIGHLY recommend this place and also visit again whenever I am back in Philly.

STELLAR!!!!!!!!! The staff. The ambiance. The food! Yes to all of it. I’m in Philly for a Tech Conference and I googled best Mediterranean restaurant near me. Google gave me four options. So glad I picked this one. Small plates that are served as they become ready. We were a party of three and luckily I was with folks who like to sample and share! Everything we ordered was phenomenal. Service was great, quick…. We arrived at 5 when they opened and by 5:30 it was packed. So you probably want to make a reservation or try your luck. I took a picture of everything we ordered except the meat balls which tasted like the best meatloaf you ever had in your life. Highly recommend this place. So sorry I didn’t go to the bathroom - I typically do a review of bathroom cleanliness as well. Anyway-if you are downtown Philly - this spot is really fun!

Vegetarian perspective I've come here for dinner and held a private event here. I run a lot of events and Barbuzzo is one of my favoriteeee venues! The upstairs is gorgeous, service impeccable and food delicious. Same goes for the restaurant. I usually split things with my friends and I haven't had a bad meal here. Everything is so fresh, unique, small plate and perfect for savoring and sharing. Love this place!

Barbuzzo holds a special place in my heart. My wife and I first came here on our honeymoon in 2011 and our lives changed after eating the Budino dessert (that was before the salted caramel trend took over!) - 13 years later and it’s still on the menu and just as delicious (that and the whipped ricotta, wood-fired pizza, and fantastic service.) Tonight we tried the grilled nectarine salad which was A+. Now that I think of it, this is probably my favorite restaurant of all time. I hope it continues to stay open for many many more years.

Perfect little spot for a quiet dinner after a day spent walking about Philly! We tried the carrot salad and the Calabrese pizza. The pizza made in the wood fired oven had flavors on point with a slight crunch in the base, hints of sweet chilli and flavorful nduja to make for a delightful mouthful! The salad was a lovely light add on, and packed with flavors too! Helpful staff who guided us on where we could get a peek at the 4th of July fireworks after! Recommended!

Our entire family loves this restaurant. The food quality and taste are incredible. We ordered House Ground Meatballs, Grilled Spanish Octopus, Grilled Mediterranean Bronzino, Calamari Fideos, and Margherita Pizza. All of them were so delicious. The service is awesome too. I accidentally knocked over a glass, and water spilled everywhere. The waiter noticed immediately and helped clean the table and the floor promptly. I highly recommend this restaurant. We will definitely visit again next time we come to Philly.

Booked a reservation online through their website on for 2 @ 6pm Friday during happy hour. Sat immediately and didn’t find out until we were already seated inside that happy hour was only for bar seats or outside tables. Was bummed but still ordered a lot of food (& $16 drinks) despite originally looking forward to Barbuzzo’s great happy hour menu we thought applied to the entire restaurant. There wasn’t any indication on the website that happy hour was exclusive. Regardless.. we still had a wonderful meal that was modified to be made vegan friendly by our incredible and attentive waitress Allie. Food was so delish and we will absolutely be returning. But next time we’ll remember ask for a table outside during happy hour

This place was so good that the pizza is still haunting me. Was a last minute decision to come here for the first time as it's nicely located around center city. To be honest, you can't seem to miss on any of the restaurants near Sansom st. Despite no reservation, we were able to get seating for 2 at the bar. It was a Tuesday night and still crowded so I would recommend getting a reservation. It was an open kitchen so smelled absolutely fantastic throughout our meal and wasn't too loud that I could still have a fine conversation with my friend. We had the ricotta, carrots, peas, meatballs, and Asparago pizza. Everything was SO good, some surprisingly so with the peas being flavors I did not expect, but really enjoyed. The meatballs were probably our least favorite. They were good and stuffed with cheese, but compared to everything else, we're not memorable enough to get again. We were, however, blown away by the ricotta, peas, carrots, and ESPECIALLY the Asparago pizza. We were full by the time we got to it, but it tasted so good that we cleaned the tray. The dippy egg on top made it that much more decadent. I got carried away talking about the food here, but should note that the service was also excellent! Can't wait to go back if not just to get this pizza to stop haunting me.

Unfortunately, the experience fell short due to inattentive service. Upon arrival, the hostess made us feel unwelcome, treating us as an inconvenience rather than valued guests. Despite having only two tables available outside, the hostess wouldn't allow us to choose our preferred seating option. We opted to sit at the available table but after waiting for a while we decided to leave without ordering.

When we walked in, a person at the front desk said no table is available, app “should not have let you make a reservation” and the wait time will be about an hour. Mistakes happen, I understand. Last visited in March 2024. I love this place, whenever I am in Philly I go there at least once if not more. Food is consistently great year after year no matter what you are ordering. Host/hostess is friendly when entering. Servers are helpful and friendly too. Menu changes with the seasons and sometimes there are specials. The budino for dessert is amazing! No way we walked in looking for a table and eat something. We didn’t know we were going to eat the best pizza ever. Never in my 50 years I had ever eaten a pizza like this. Nether in Italy. Unbelievable my compliments are for the chef or the pizzaiolo and I am pretty sure he is from Naples or he had a great teacher from Naples. Here in US this is the closest one to the real napolitan pizza you can have in Naples or Caserta. And even there there are a lot of pizzerias but just few of them are at the very top position. Wow! My favorite one is the first one inside the menu list. Maybe the white ones. Even the asparagus was good but I would prefer less pecorino and maybe the bacon instead of the guanciale. I’m a purist and also I am from Rome I should say that but after 10 years here in USA I have changed my vision about the myth of Rome. Always expand your mind! Great job thank you very much. My son is going there today bcs he doesn’t believe me 😄

I love this place. I come here about once a month. The food is absolutely delicious and mouth watering. The gnocchi is a must. The balance of flavors and texture of the gnocchi is perfect. The other dishes here are all pretty solid choices, but I have to rave about the gnocchi. In my opinion it’s the best thing here. The cocktail drinks are alright nothing special. Draft selection is good, and I typically dislike beer. Both outside and inside seating atmosphere is fantastic with their own vibe. Indoors is very moody and intimate, so it’s good for date nights. I must warn that going during valentines day was an L because they were quite busy and I noticed a dip in the quality.

After reading other reviews and because it was close we stopped in for dinner. We probably got the last table (so reservations are a good idea). So glad we did. Great place! The whipped ricotta starter was amazing. Light and full of flavor and the grilled bread with it was perfect. I would go back just for this dish!! We also had the calabrese pizza and meatballs. Pizza was good sized and nicely topped. The honey was a nice sweet touch. Good crust. The meatballs were big yet tender. The cheese was so good. Service was good. Friendly and helpful. It was cool to watch the kitchen crew, they make it look easy.

The food was good, let's start by saying that. All the food was well prepared and had pretty good flavor. Whipped ricotta was great. The sangria, however, was disappointing. Weak. Not flavorful. The portions were small. I get fine dining portion standards. But this wasn't fine dining. I have no problem paying good money for good food but it has to meet the cost:value ratio and overall I didn't feel the experience did that. Let me explain. They serve you "family style" (which I have no idea what that means because this food was not served family style.) What they mean is they'll send one person their food 10 minutes before the rest of the table gets their food. So I sat there uncomfortable, half waiting for the rest of the table to be served while my food got cold. So I slowly ate my half portion of a meal. Then, as they ate, I sat uncomfortably watching them eat. And after some portion of the appetizer and my entree, I was still hungry.

4 5 stars. Most of the food I have eaten in Philly is decent enough but far from spectacular. While this wasn't quite 'spectacular', it was one of 2 highly-recommened pizza places (of the five I've tried) that actually delivered for me. Sorry Angelo's, you are decent, not at all the best. Barbuzzo's pizza was wonderful! The menu is very interesting, the ambience is great and service was friendly. The drinks selections are good with plenty of deep choices. My butternut squash arancini was good but could have used a bit of umami and/or a punch more savory. All-in-all, one of my best meals in Philly. I will be back, for sure. You should check it out too.

Had a nice dinner with my friends. Interior was nice and moody, if a little cramped. Food was excellent, we came for Restaurant Week and their prix-fixe menu had a nice selection. Ricotta with bread was delicious, my beet salad was also nice and light, but the creste rigate was a bit underwhelming with too much pasta for the amount of duck and sauce that was prepared. The curlew's call cocktail was nice, and the budino for dessert was a great end to the night. Will recommend to friends.

What a fantastic meal we enjoyed at Barbuzzo! The food was truly outstanding, every dish was bursting with delicious flavor. Our waiter was attentive and friendly. The drinks from the bar were creative and tasty. I am already looking forward to going back!! I would highly recommend Barbuzzo as a “must dine” place. Book it soon!

Had a nice dinner with my friends. Interior was nice and moody, if a little cramped. Food was excellent, we came for Restaurant Week and their prix-fixe menu had a nice selection. Ricotta with bread was delicious, my beet salad was also nice and light, but the creste rigate was a bit underwhelming with too much pasta for the amount of duck and sauce that was prepared. The curlew's call cocktail was nice, and the budino for dessert was a great end to the night. Will recommend to friends.

My boyfriend and I came here for brunch. It was such a great atmosphere and the food was delicious. Service was great and quick and overall we had a wonderful experience. We will definitely be back!

We were there very late on a Saturday afternoon, so it wasn't as busy as Barbuzzo had been every other time I've been (save for 5:00 pm on a weekday!), but it was another great meal there. We do wish they would bring back some of the key cocktails that have been winners in the past, like the Sanguinello and the Queen Bee—we very much miss those and ask about them each time we go—but the whipped ricotta, and the Margherita and Uovo pizzas were all outstanding. One of my favorite places in Philly!

Excellent food. It was very busy so there was a long delay with 1 of the 4 entrees. Appetizers were particularly good. Cocktails were ok. Service was excellent overall. It’s small so can feel a bit crowded.

First time at Barbuzzo was incredible! All of the staff were amazing, especially Beth our server. The food and wine were delectable. Space was at a minimum and the volume was a bit high. I can’t wait to go back and sit at the bar!

This was a lovely experience. I had a discrepancy in the text msgs I received about checking in and my Open table reservation but it did not impact out visit. Thank goodness. I booked weeks in advance. I went with friends for restaurant week. We actually didn’t order the restaurant week menu but we enjoyed everything we ordered. The drinks were delicious and our server was fabulous. All of the servers seem to jump in and help each other. I will definitely go back.

Truly amazing food. The drinks were great too. Our server was amazing and so nice. We didnt feel rushed either. Cassoulet was crazy good and the presentation was gorgeous!!! I haven’t been out to eat in a while and it was so nice. Thanks everyone who works there!

We booked our rehearsal dinner and welcome party at Barbuzzo about 7 months before our wedding, and the planning process was very easy. Kirsty worked with us to make our menu selections, finalize the table layout to accommodate our 25 guests, and ensured everything was perfect and ran smoothly the day of. The food was amazing (per usual!) and the vibe was exactly what we were looking for to kick off our wedding celebrations. Can’t recommend Barbuzzo enough!
