excellent food! I recommend the pork belly tacos and the sirloin tacos

Best dinner stop we could have hoped for! Great food, each dish with a unique and delicious twist, and remarkable and fantastic cocktails made with juice hand-squeezed in front of us. Every dish was noteworthy, from the street corn and poke bowl appetizers to the chicken/rice bowl, the key lime pie, and every taco we tried. We will absolutely be going back!

We went with a larger group on a Saturday night. I did read up on the location beforehand. But nonetheless, the experience was not good. Their concept of filling out a piece of paper to order, having an order app with QR code on the table (btw - sticking up right where you would put the plate/metal tray) and having a service person makes for a confusing experience. We had a large table and the waitress was not at my end which meant we didn't hear anything she said. We ended up ordering on the paper. Here comes the next kicker: they serve everything family style - even if you are not in fact one family! So you gotta ask around the table where the heck your fish taco went.... And you end up eating somebody else's taco since it was on the plate (sorry metal tray) that was handed to you. We were checked on by the manager more than the waitress. I wonder if they were short-staffed that night. Overall vibe felt like beach shack with Westport prices. The interior is very laid back and the chairs not that comfortable. It's okay for maybe a quick drink and small bite but I was not impressed. Judging by the lines and other reviews, maybe this just isn't a place for me. Others in my group were very happy with their food (esp the shrimp tacos) but my fish tacos were more fried dough than fish. The esquites was delicious and the guac was fine too, the chips seemed quite salty. Several of us ordered the rice bowls as well; 2 came out the 3rd was nowhere to be found. We received that when everybody was done. They ended up comping that which makes me think the order might have not made it to the kitchen in the first place. I was a bit disappointed because I love a good fish taco, but this wasn't it.

We always love our Bar Taco experience but tonight was sub-par. The hostess was rude. Preferential seating outside was given to a party of 2 in a booth for 4 even though our party of 4 had arrived first and requested outside seats I got the sense she knew the other quests. Not cool. The meal was overly spicy - more than usual. And the wait staff plunked the trays of food down on our table with zero sense of service or care. Disappointing. We will return but hope improvements are made back to the Bar Taco we love

Caelese truly runs a beautiful restaurant here at bartaco Westport! All the staff was friendly, food was quick and so delicious, and the drinks were amazing! Wish we lived closer so we could come here every weekend!

Good atmosphere, decent view, service was good but could’ve been a touch faster. The food was pretty good, although the spicy options may be too much for some (chile lime shrimp taco).

My experience at bartaco was overall quite pleasant. The tacos were pretty good, especially the variety offered. The staff was exceptionally friendly and welcoming, which added to the enjoyable atmosphere of the place. However, I did encounter some confusion with my order. Using a QR code menu to place orders was a bit confusing at first, and some of the tacos I ordered weren't prepared initially, requiring staff assistance to sort out, which caused a slight delay. Additionally, part of my dinner and the dessert arrived together, which was a bit unusual. Despite these minor issues, the quality of food and the ambiance made for a nice dining experience overall.

Outside of the very nice hostess that guided us to the bar since we were only two (we asked for a table - which there were many but “the bar will be better if you don’t mind”) - horrible bar service. As first timers no one cared to greet us or ask if we’ve been here before. Our bar area was covered in food, crumbs and used napkins and we got an eye roll when we asked to have it wiped. We were given a towel to wipe it ourselves!!! There are paper menus in disarray that you’re meant to pencil your order on. No explanation of what comes with your order, every single item we ordered was overly spicy - we mentioned mild to medium. My lips are burning! No wonder they ask for your credit card upfront to charge people who may feel they’ve made a mistake by sitting down. WOW. So inattentive, no eye contact. Food was laughable. The LimeChile-Lime Shrimp bowl was poor — over spices with grilled peppers and brown rice that was not even tender and undercooked. Nothing to it but overwhelming jalapeño spiciness - even on the street corn. Asked for the check 3 times. They asked our name all 3 - and it still took 20 minutes. Never coming back here - even if you paid us. Get it together, folks.

My first time at bartaco today and it was such an amazing experience. Right on the water too. I had a server named Caleb and he made it so easy for us. Nothing is better than having great staff at a restaurant who actually want to be there.

Ordered takeout. Missing 1/2 the order. Called and got a rude response from Marcella. Doubt I will get a refund, but they owe me 29.60 for the missing 8 pack tacos and our large trio which cost 14.25 came with no chips/ tortillas. I’d also appreciate the tip back- not sure why I give a tip for picking up my own food anyway. Bar taco takes and stores your CC number but provides no recourse when they cheat you out of your money- smh.

The food here is incredible! Second time back and I had to leave a review. The glazed pork belly tacos are out of this world! Amazing guacamole, sesame ribeye and plantains too. The key lime pie was incredible and the drinks! Great vibes by the water at an affordable price. Dre was an excellent server and very attentive when it was during a busy time. You won’t be disappointed! Great spot!

I’ve been here a couple times just recently within the last 8 weeks. So this review is pretty much up to date. The atmosphere of that place is great. Very casual. Great vibes. Food is good too. Reasonably priced. Only thing is the service. They forget things, drinks come late. They don’t write orders down which would be good if you order a bunch of tacos. I mean it’s casual after all, so you don’t expect a lot - but service could be def better.

The food is okay. The big draw to this place is that you can order through your phone and food and drinks come out as they are made. You can pay and leave at your convenience as we have done many times in the west Hartford location. Unfortunately, the system didn't work for our table and the servers didn't understand how to make it work. It resulted in us ordering through the paper menu. The servers were not interested in our table since all of the tips are shared. The drinks took FOREVER to come out. The food came out first. Then had to wait for a while to order again. Certain servers could take food orders but others said that they would get a server for us. Overall, a God Aweful experience.

Bar taco is reasonably priced – and that is the extent to which I can endorse this place, as neither quality nor service merit a return visit. First the food, which is like taco bell in miniature. Imagine a taco but smaller – much smaller – like a taco on the molecular level. You will need many, many tacos to leave this place satisfied, and if they were high quality the pigmy tacos would be far less disappointing. Unfortunately, quality is also lacking. I say this after sampling countless mini-tacos, including the “surprise taco” (not surprisingly, this taco also failed). Drinks were tasty but took eons to arrive, which brings me to the service. All of our servers were cheerful and pleasant, but the vast number of them created difficultly. Apparently, servers are not assigned specific tables. You will likely encounter 5 to 10 different servers throughout your mini meal because they are all serving the entire restaurant, meaning none of them are particularly invested in your dinner. Because everyone owns your table, nobody really owns your table. Food also comes out when it is ready, which works for family style restaurants but sadly breaks down in the mini taco world. I went with a group of 7, and some of us got our fill of mini tacos before others had gotten anything.

By far the best restaurant I’ve ever been in Connecticut. I’m a local, I’m a foodie, I love going around and trying everything. I’m Brazilian, my friend is Moroccan, and we’ve also extensively traveled in our countries. We both agreed, never tried food as delicious as a bartaco’s. The Poké bowl is delicious, but my personal preference is the pork belly taco. I get six every time I go there. Fun fact, if you get the press, leches cake, they’ll actually give you a lid to close the jar if you don’t finish all of it. I dream about that cake sometimes. Also, I work in the industry, and every chef I’ve ever met, has good things to say about that place.

Love the one in Port Chester, but this is NOT Port Chester. They gave me a hard time about ordering a drink not on the menu, the taco selection was just weird (normally it is interesting and eclectic), but this was not good.

ABSOLUTELY THE BEST! I went with a friend from the Middle East, along with one from Brazil both have traveled extensively back home, and as a CT resident from the area who's visited every restaurant ever, I have never been so insistent on leaving a review!! I go there at least once a month. We all collectively agreed it was the best food we'd ever eaten. That's a statement considering the palet diversity in our little group.

The overall experience for our first visit to bartaco was disappointing to say the least. The service was truly horrible with a majority of the people involved with our table just seeming to not care, saying the would check on our drink order and then 5 minutes later when asked again telling us he never made it to the bar, meanwhile he's walking around like he's high. Dishes were not cleared from the table which was small for 4 people to begin with. The whole set up for staffing seemed flawed, no one seemed to care about customer satisfaction. Not sure we would return, but the food was really good, just not enough to overcome the staff's indifference.

I am very disappointed with the service here. Denied my sisters ID (she is legal) and he refused to serve too her because he “felt uncomfortable”. He was wearing black hat and a black shirt and had a mustache. He was extremely rude as well.

Really like this place. I have to come to Westport every few weeks for work but never paid this place much mind until I needed lunch today. Location is beautiful and right on the water. Ordering is super easy (app based if you want) and I was pleasantly surprised by the food. Posole is very hard to find on the east coast and theirs is legit. Had an aqua fresca which was good too. The prices? So reasonable too. As a New Yorker I'm probably biased but I didn't know you could get food of this value for this price anymore. They're like 2005 prices. Should I just move to conneticut?

Because I liked their foods very much at Stamford location , I ordered a few bowls and tacos yesterday for takeout at this location and it’s not acceptable! First my fish taco had bones ! Luckily I spotted it before my second bite. Secondly my son’s pork belly bowl had a metal string inside! Again my son was luckily enough to find it before swallowing! See photos attached. Imagine the worst possible scenario if we were hungry and ate foods too fast without careful checking. We could both end in the ICU.

This place was a huge disappointment. Wait staff had very little time to explain the ordering process (you basically have to write your own ticket or order via an app that required a ridiculous amount of info and unnecessary codes). We asked for no chile on our order (it came anyway). We ordered a cocktail. It never came. Servers apparently can’t run a credit card on their own, so that process took longer than necessary. And the food itself was disappointing. The one thing they have going is a pleasant atmosphere.

Great spot by the water in Westport. Vibes and atmosphere are great. Mix of younger and older people. The service was great, though our food did take a while to get out (we came on a Sunday afternoon). Moreover, it's a bit pricy for what it is and the tacos were smaller than I would have thought. The best ones were for sure the baja (fried) fish, the cauliflower, and the fried oyster. The sesame ribs were a bit flat and I don't even remember the tuna one. This was her third time there. The two prior was a very good experience, but this last one just this Friday everything about it was horrible!! I am from San Diego but lived in Connecticut for ten years and this is the one place that would satisfy my craving for actually good tacos! The atmosphere is super fun and the food is absolutely amazing. I have since moved back to San Diego but I still constantly crave Bar Taco!! My favorite tacos are the baja fish, falafel, cauliflower, and chicken verde, but you really cannot go wrong. I also really love the street corn. This is a perfect place for a birthday dinner or night out with friends, and the view is gorgeous!

Update Feb 2023: Manager took the review and feedback seriously and went through quite a bit of effort to make our next visit more enjoyable and straightforward. Thanks for the engagement and will be returning to this local hot spot. They don’t take reservations - they only take waitlist, which is a fancy word for we don’t take reservations. You are expected to check in and wait for over 45mins on average in the evenings. if you have kids and can’t wait that long stay away from this place. They won’t offer exceptions.
