Excellent food and service. My wife and I always stop when we're in Black Mountain.

As always a great dinner. Been coming here for years and finally had one of my old Army buddies in from Chicago and he agreed it's the best we've found since leaving Germany specifically the potato salad, rot kraut and Jager schnitzel

If you're looking gor an authentic German spot...this place is it!! My mother in law is from Germany and so far the places I have tried have not come close to the Schnitzel she makes! This place is the closest and most authentic German experience we've had out. And we've tried several places! Beer on tap was great! We sat at the bar with Heather! Phenomenal service and we work in the restaurant industry so our standards are pretty high! Highly recommend this place! German potato salad, cucumber salad, fried taters, red cabbage, sauerkrat, Schnitzel dinner and weiner Schnitzel all 10 out of 10!

Very welcoming and helpful staffs, delicious authentic German cuisine, and a great selection of German beers makes the Berliner one of our favorite Asheville area restaurants. Located in scenic Black Mountain, I highly recommend the Berlin era for tasty change from the usual restaurant fare. Try any of the schnitzels or sausages and for sides be sure to have the spatzel! The cabbage and home fries are super as well. Two dinners with desert, a glass of wine, pint of donkel came to about $50. Highly recommend!

Great little German authentic restaurant. Everything was fresh and delicious. The homemade apple strudel was great as well.

After going to Germany for Octoberfest 8 years ago, we have tried multiple German restaurants across the US to give us a taste to take us back. This was the best place we have had. The food was exactly the same and I couldn't believe it. If you are in the Ashville area and like German food and beer, stop in, it's worth it.

This was my 2nd time going, live an hour away. The food was absolutely amazing, had the schnitzel, knockwurst, potatoe cakes, and cheesecake, I am usually not one to get desserts at ANY restaurant but got both times, the mango cheesecake was not what I originally wanted, however, it was awesome and hope they will have the next time that I go.(but I am sure it is seasonal) last time I had blackberry cheesecake. And all at our table got different desserts and tried them all. They are all wonderful. Heather was our waitress both times, she had a great memory and remembered us from the 1st time(6 months ago) and was a pleasure with her. I can NOT say one bad word about this restaurant and can’t wait to go back, will definitely not be 6 months.

Although their AC was out, the food and service were incredible!

The waitress went out of her way to make us feel welcome. We were lucky to get a table without reservations on a weekend. The schnitzel was terrific. Brats were brats.

We ate here for lunch on a busy holiday weekend. We were very disappointed in the basic sandwiches that we ordered. The Rueben was supposed to be the house special. Not very special. Lots of bread, not much meat. We’ve had better at many ordinary places that don’t feature German food. Service was friendly and fast, but lunch was disappointing.

Terrible food. Not fresh but warmed over sliced meat with wheat toast. Never again. Lack of service and cold food. Sorry that is the only good thing I have to say

Food was delicious and our server was patient with us with all of our questions about a cuisine we're unfamiliar with. I got the Jaegerschnitzel with cucumber salad and fried potatoes, others in my party got the lemon schnitzel, some sort of spicy wurst, German potato salad, and sauerkraut. We were all absolutely wowed by everything. And DO NOT MISS the apple strudel. It was crazy good!

Best and most authentic German food we’ve had in years (my husband is from Berlin). The service was excellent, food served in a timely fashion. The waitress’s were an absolute pleasure very friendly and professional. We recommend Berliner Kimdl highly, will definitely return next time we’re in the area. Thank you.

Nestled in the heart of Black Mountain, NC, we stumbled upon Berliner Kindl German Restaurant during a leisurely Thursday afternoon Goldwing ride. Upon entering, we were pleasantly surprised by the spacious interior, tastefully decorated and stretching far beyond the entrance. Despite not being drinkers ourselves, we noted their extensive selection of German beers. Opting for classic German fare, my wife chose the Reuben sandwich paired with German potato salad, while I opted for the knackwurst dinner accompanied by sauerkraut and cucumber salad. The sauerkraut instantly transported me back to childhood memories of homemade batches, though I found my knackwurst slightly cooler than desired, and my wife remarked on the bread being a touch soggy. Saving room for dessert, we indulged in the Kentucky Bourbon pecan pie, which was a fresh and flavorful delight. Despite minor hiccups with our orders, we thoroughly enjoyed our dining experience. The food boasted rich, well-balanced flavors, and the attentive and amiable staff ensured we felt right at home. The ambiance was inviting, with clean and comfortable surroundings. We're already looking forward to returning to explore more of the menu offerings in the future.

5 no 10 stars every time we go.. and the desserts…10/10

Always a treat here! Try the potato pancakes, you won’t be disappointed! Entrees are always spot on and the dessert case is always on point!

I was not impressed with any of the food. The meatball appetizer tastes straight out of the freezer and warmed up. Place needs someone to come in and revamp it.

I had the special, the alpine, Swiss cheese sauce over a schnitzel. Delicious and the sides were as good as the meal! The cabbage, pot. Salad and the pasta was super good

Portions are ridiculously small for schnitzel. Never seen one so tiny. The veal schnitzel was TOUGH. Highly expensive, not worth the price. The disappointment when we got home and opened our food package was felt by all of us who ordered. Anything taste fine when your hungry after a hike........ Do better...

What a gem of a restaurant to have found in Black Mountain! The authentic German & Bavarian style food was EXACTLY what my wife and I were searching for on this trip. The Schnitzel, Smoked Bratwurst, Saurkraut, Fried Potatoes, German Potato Salad, and Spätzle were all to die for. This food transported us right back into our trip to Europe, eating food just like this throughout Germany & Austria. Thank you, Thank you, Thank you! We took an Apple Strudel to go because the food was so filling, but their dessert options were so enticing. Please visit this cozy, tasty place during your next visit to the area.

Our party of 7 including sisters, brother and sisters in law all had a wonderful time last night. Food was delicious; service by our outstanding server, Lynne!!!!!! Restaurant had a cozy atmosphere. A good old German restaurant. The pork schnitzel was excellent and the smoked pork chop was good as well. The apple strudel is fresh homemade by the owner.....to die for. I wanted to take a piece for breakfast...yum!!!

Traditional homestyle German food in a cozy setting with folk music playing, layer cakes in the case and bottled German beer in the case. The schnitzel was thin and crispy, not overly breaded, served hot with paprika or mushroom gravy and choice osf sides. We had the spatzle and cucumber salad. The atmosphere was festive and the service outstanding.

This is the BEST place to get German cuisine and it is fabulous. Not had a bad experience.

Me and my friend visited here on our motorcycles. For the first time today. it was an excellent experience special thanks to Kim in the rest of the lovely staff. The food was delicious.

Had lunch with friends and family here 15 years ago. Went back when in the area on 2/3/23 and their longevity (I think 30 years plus) speaks to the quality of the food. MUST try the Ruben Sandwich. Never had better.

It was our first time trying this German restaurant and it was so good! The schnitzel was very tender and flavorful. The potato pancakes were bomb. Not to mention the hugee slice of German chocolate cake for dessert. Very sweet and yummy. 10/10 would recommend.

Great restaurant in a great town. The garlic in the spaetzel was a bit overpowering. The jaegerschnitzel was great. The apple streudel was awesome!

Stopped in for a bite to eat before heading back down the mountain after spending the day at NC Veterans Hm spreading Christmas cheer.. wonderful, quaint restaurant, serving delicious, traditional German foods.. Black Mountain, you've got a jewel with this restaurant!

The food was very bland. No taste. We had pork chops , potatoes, spaetzle, cabbage. All four dishes were bland. My wife had tea, I had water, the meal cost over fifty dollars with tip. We left hungry as the portions were small. The waitress and staff were very nice. Not their fault. Would not go back. We have been to Germany several times and to much more authentic German restaurants in the states than this one. This was tourist food for people passing through My wife did say the cabbage was awful!

Like coming home. As a kid, I always looked forward to visiting Oma and Opa each summer in Kircheim. Nothing tasted as good as eating my Oma’s delicious Linzer Torte, or Opa’s spaetzle, schnitzel and mushroom gravy. The reviews said Berliner Kindl was authentic and I couldn’t agree more. Both of our meals were beyond delicious. The atmosphere was authentic and our wait staff was attentive and ensured our food came out quickly and hot. We also ordered the Black Forest cake that was moist with a healthy portion of chocolate and cherries. For those Schwabs out there, order the potatoes instead of the potato said, which is made with bacon. Obviously a regional preference. Nevertheless, this will be my go to spot for a taste of home when we are staying in Morganton and Lake James area.

Wonderful spot!! The food was absolutely delicious and came out quickly. The seating area is very cozy and homey. Every staff member we interacted with was an absolute delight. Will definitely be back next time I’m in the area.

Awesome food, beer, and service! I am especially grateful at how helpful and nice everyone was with my 94 year old mother with mobility issues.

Enjoyed our lunch very much. Coming from Germany, we were confused about the Bavarian decor and food, what with the Berliner Kindl name, and asked. It seems the first owner was from Berlin but the second from Darmstadt. It also didn't seem to be wheelchair accessible, with a step at the door and 2 steps up to the bathroom, but we didn't ask about other accommodations.

We would eat here every week if this were home. A very fine example of a gasthaus. Food is so good from the cabbage ( which I think compliments the schnitzel so well ) to the fresh hot served plates. Do the schnitzel and eine beer bitter. PS The staff are awesome..

The best German food I've had in the US. I've been to many different German restaurants trying to get the same taste that I remember while being in Germany 🇩🇪 while in the Army. This place is amazing with authentic flavors. The schnitzel and potato salad is addicting. My 9yr old is picky yet she loved her Reuben. The staff was very friendly and attentive. This is a must try!!

Superb southern German food and atmosphere of a gasthaus - the Bitburger Pils was a pleasant surprise. Wow. We had such a great time with the wait staff and the food was excellent - what more can you ask for? We both had schnitzel and it was authentic German, along with spatzle and their take on cucumber salad was also good.

Ordered the German hamburger, medium, and it arrived rare. Was a good burger though. The potatoes were very good as was the potato pancakes!! Staff extremely friendly and professional!

Potato pancakes were perfectly fried and not greasy. Both the Veal and pork schnitzel were tender and crispy on the outside. The sausages were all very good. The Veal sausage was different in texture but tasty. The German potato salad is served cold but was very good. It had chopped pickles, which was unexpected, but worked well with the richness of the chunks of bacon. They also have a little shop with candy, and packaged goods, as well as deli meats and sausages for sale. The little town has lots of great shops and places to explore that are all easily walkable. Highly recommend stopping for lunch

It's a cute little restaurant, with a varied menu of German selections, and reasonable-enough prices. But the wiener schnitzel was terrible - tough and flavorless - as was the spaetzle. So you might want to try something else. The red cabbage was tasty, and the roasted potatoes were fine. We were celebrating my birthday so we split a dessert that was delicious, and we had no problem with the glass of wine or beer. Just the schnitzel and the spaetzle, which was a disappointment because we came over from Asheville just to enjoy a good German dinner.

The service, food were excellent. This might be the best german resturant that we have eaten. We had a potato pancakes, main course and desert. It is the only resturant I have ever been that had six non-alcholic beers on the menu.

Seemed unusual to find a German restaurant in Black Mountain so we gave it a try, Food was good but seemed to have lost a bit of heritage or it could have been that it was different from what I perceive to be authentic. German pate appetizer was Braunschweiger, I believe. German potato salad portion was quite small and served cold. I know warmed! Schnitzel was good but not super flavorful. Wife had the Ruben which seemed a strange menu item. It was large and a Ruben. Not a memorable experience.

OMG, sehr gut. It's been 10yrs since we were here last. And it's just like I remembered and the food is delicious. Staff is outstanding!! Hubby had Warsteiner Bier, Jägerschnitzel, home fries, cucumber salat, then coffee and black Forrest cake. All good only thought the veal was too thin. I had Warsteiner Bier special, Rahm schnitzel, home fries, cucumber salat, and lemon berry cake with marzipan filling(oh so good). Then on our way out had to stop and buy some goodies. What a wonderful dinner!! I hope it's not another 10 yrs before we come back....

Love love love this place. We stop here whenever we come through the area. Excellent food and selection. The red cabbage is so yummy! I had the Bouletten. My husband had the spicy brats. The cucumber salad is absolutely delicious. The only thing I did not like was the spaetzle. It was different than I’ve had before at other German restaurants. They used a different kind of egg noodle and used pork as part of the recipe. I prefer plain butter spaetzle.

Took my father here who was born and raised in Germany and it brought back a lot of good memories for him. The food was amazing and authentic!

I had the hanger steak. While it was cooked to order, I would not have it again, maybe due to the marinade, but I couldn't help but think of liver. The burger was ok. Service was very pleasant. The vinyl tablecloths threw me off. But the decoration in general is warm and cozy. The tomato soup with goat cheese was delicious.

This place really earns the 5 stars for food, service and atmosphere. I had the Jagerschnitzel and the German chocolate cake. Wow!!!! Both were legitimately divine!! Everyone in my party was completely impressed with this restaurant after we received a recommendation from one of the people in our party. I'm so glad we tried this place (despite the higher prices it was totally worth it!!)

We loved this place. We saw this place in restaurants near me and we're so glad we did! I tried the chopped steak which was in their Specials menu and it was amazing!

Really good German food. Sausages, schnitzel, sandwiches. Ample portions prepared well and the sides were tasty and complimented the entrees. Good selection of German beer and wine including tap beers. Nice deli with sausages and Braunschweiger. Highly recommend!

Outstanding food quality and service!

Not a ton of vegetarian options, but what I ordered was absolutely delicious!

The staff was friendly, the little space is very classic old-German, down to the oak wood tables and Bavarian landscapes on the wall. It was lunch, so I ordered the schnitzel sandwich with potato salad. Everything was well prepared, the tomatoes and lettuce were bright and fresh, the bun was soft, the schnitzel was properly thin. I did need to remind myself that the portions align with German portions, not American. And I did move the pickle to the side. Not expensive, not inexpensive, though I do wish the menu had a beer cheese/fondue, though yes I know that's not a thing in the summer. maybe they have it in winter. The cakes looked good but I didn't try them.

All-around fantastic! The food is as delicious now as it was the first time we ate here in 2008. The service is always very friendly and welcoming. We get the “Dinner for two” because it has a bit of everything. We never leave hungry or disappointed. I highly recommend this restaurant if you visit Black Mountain.

Some of the worst food I’ve ever had in my life and I went in there highly optimistic because I have German friends. After I forced myself to eat my over priced plate that was awful in every way it wasn’t authentic at all according to my German friends asides from tasting awful the food wasn’t make correctly. Didn’t have the heart to tell the nice older ladies there how bad the food was but for people wanting to know wether to try it I highly advise against it as a foodie and decent person. Perhaps it’s highly rated because it’s in middle of no where with no options.

I loved this place! My schnitzel, spatzel, and potatoes were delicious, and the sausage and Reuben my family ordered also tasted amazing. All the sides compliment the dishes perfectly. We had a nice server who quickly came over and got a lager for us when we asked (we were halfway through our meal, not just ordering drinks). The atmosphere is wonderful. It reminds me of my German grandparents' old home, with many similar furnishings, and was very calm and nice. We're still waiting to try the slice of cheesecake we took out, but we suspect it will be delicious.

We had our rehearsal dinner here and invited close to 60 people. I thought it would be hectic but the staff was super organized and didn’t miss the mark on a single thing. The food was incredible and I can’t wait to return for the food and to remember how much fun my wife and I had with our families that night!
