We just completed the Lake Superior Circle Tour and stayed at White Pine Lodge. This place has, by far, the best outhouse on the tour. It's luxurious, filled with great reading material, and even has a mirror—a nice touch after a week of camping. Plus, it smells fresh, like daisies. The pizza here is also fantastic; you can't go wrong with the meat lovers. If you're doing the Lake Superior Circle Tour, do yourself a favor and book a campsite at White Pine Lodge.

Only spent one night there but would go back for more. Room is nice, lodge is gorgeous, pizza was great. Owners are great people and are making this a top notch place. Their new wooden boat is beautiful - disappointed we weren't there longer to take a ride in it. If you need a place to stay on the gunflint - this is it.

We did not stay at the property but we rented a pontoon for the afternoon to go fishing. We enjoyed our time immensely! Poplar Lake is beautiful! And the pontoon was amazing- comfortable, clean, it had conveniences like a table and cup holders, a well as GPS and a depth finder. The property is gorgeous! The owners are so sweet! Would definitely recommend!

This is a favorite on the Gunflint Trail! Gorgeous lodge and fantastic pizza. Chris and Allison are amazing hosts and provide an enjoyable experience from the moment you arrive. And Clarence is the best greeter anywhere!

Awesome local family owned restaurant. They make homemade pizzas from scratch every day. I had the supreme and it was delicious. Cozy vibes. Perfect after a long day of hiking.

I stopped to chat about camping there as they have several camping spots. Owner was busy, the other owner seemed to not really want to help me out. Just pointed where the “spots” were and I took a walking tour myself. Sites were all gravel with just a couple trees between them. Nice enough but little or no privacy as few trees and very close together. Nice, but not my deal for a place on the Gunflint Trail. Did not stay there nor did I eat or see their rooms or cabins. I’ve heard they are nice.

Terrific facilities, great owners- very personable and accommodating. Amenities were top notch. It’s everything you’re looking for up on the Gunflint.

We ended our week on the Gunflint Trail with an amazing pizza feast at White Pine Lodge. Everything was great. The pizza was top notch, with delicious crust and toppings to match. Great beer selection too. To top it off Chris and Allison made us feel at home. We will be back for sure!

10/10! We stayed in cabin #3 for three nights for our babymoon. The beds and pillows are so comfortable, kitchen is fully stocked, cabin has a beautiful view of the lake, has a private dock, and there is WiFi in the cabins and on the property. The owners are super personable and helpful, and you will be greeted by a heckin good doggo named Clarence when you arrive. The only “negative” thing I have to say is I wish the cabin had AC, however, there are several fans in the cabin. We will be back for many years to come!

Grand lodge, areas to read or play games, beautiful lake with toys to explore the water. Also have bar and make pizza for dinner hours. Very relaxing and comfortable.

It was our first time staying there we stayed in the Dakota cabin was perfect for the two of us. The Lodge served amazing pizza and adult beverages and made us feel right at home!! Would go back and recommend it for anyone who loves the outdoors.

This is a gem of a place! Highly recommend. You will not be disappointed in anything. The owners are just great people who love what they do and take care of their customers. Great selection of beers and amazing pizza! The lodge is absolutely beautiful!

Great getaway on the Gunflint Trail. Very welcoming atmosphere. Great beer selection at the lodge bar, community fire pit, and 24 hour (free for guests) sauna. Looking forward to our next visit!

First, the good: - the cabin was spotlessly clean (& I'm pretty picky since I do yoga and get "up close & personal" with the floors!) - it was incredibly quiet and the lake is just beautiful - there are plenty of kayaks, SUPs, etc. and gear free for use on the lake - the cabin is also well-equipped with quality appliances / cookware, soft sheets, comfy bed, ample towels / blankets / pillows, and hooks for hanging your gear / coats / towels (why don't other properties do this??) - the well water tastes great and has better water pressure than most cabins I've stayed in - their made to order pizzas with handmade crust are fabulous - gigantic, filling and delicious! - Chris, Allison & their pup Clarence are lovely and incredibly nice Now, the bad: - At some point, you have to go home :(

I wouldn't take my business anywhere else for my leisure trip.

Cabins are impeccably clean, owners are wonderful, and Ida’s pizza is extraordinary. We have loved coming up here for 4 years +. This place is a gem on the gunflint trail. There are other great places to stay on the trail, this has been our favorite. Hands down.

Thank you Big Bear for a wonderful weekend! Everything was exceptional! Beautifully decorated, very clean, owners are very nice! It was colder and the weather was not the best(Memorial weekend). I'm hoping the next time we will get better weather so we can go out on the lake. We will be back! Hopefully next time I will get to see a moose. My birthday weekend was a lot of fun, the North Shore and your lodge offer many activities!

This place is in a great location to everything along the GFT. Andy was so kind and helped my car get up a slick hill - Saved the day! We stayed in the Dakota. Very cozy. Great cabin for 2 people. Would book again in a heartbeat!

We've stayed at Big Bear twice now and it always meets our expectations. The reviews are right, you can peace and quiet, bring your furry friend and enjoy Superior National forest and BWCA as they are intended.

We went to the Gunflint Trail for our 40th wedding anniversary. We had never been there before and had a room at the Big Bear Lodge. The room was excellent. We got great information for things to do, see, hike from the owner. It was a beautiful setting, quiet and serene down by the lake to just sit, read a book, enjoy Great homemade Pizza and wine you could order. We truly enjoyed our time there and hope to go back again!

Just returned from a wonderful four night stay. Great resort with great owners. The property is clean and very well maintained. No cell service and no TV was perfect for us as we were looking to "check out" for a few days. The fact that they allow pets was a big plus for us. Lots of wildlife, amazing sunsets and local options for hiking or biking. We will be back for sure! :)

Ida and Andy have created an amazing resort with the intimacy of a Bed and Breakfast. The mattresses are the most comfortable I have slept on...ever. The view of the lake is superb and you have your own designated firepit with plenty of food. The service is fantastic and I will be coming back for another stay.

A dream come true. I didn't want to leave. Breathtaking scenery. Peace and tranquility. A rejuvenation of the soul. I will be back soon!

I have been to Big Bear 5 times. I love it there. I've been in a variety of seasons and each trip has it's own unique experiences. It doesn't matter what the weather is....it is a special experience each time. I enjoyed the Lil' Debbie cabin very much. Great view, wonderful cozy fire, bed and cabin so comfortable. I did some hiking and driving looking for wildlife. Andy and Ida are fantastic hosts. Both of them and Mike work very hard to make sure every single thing is perfect for guests. I had gone up to rejuvenate after the loss of my Dad. I also celebrated my birthday while there as well. Andy and Ida made the time very special in many ways. I enjoyed time in the lodge and hanging out with Maisy the dog. Lots of great naps and rest amidst nature. Big Bear is my home away from home for all of those reasons and more! Nature and beauty at its finest.

Some of the nicest people, operating one of the nicest places to stay that I have come across. And it all just happens to be in some of America's most beautiful bounty. Seriously, I wish I was more elegant, this was a great place to be.

Best kept secret of the Gunflint Trail. Andy and Ida have created something very special. Direct access to hiking trails and the boundary waters. The place is blanketed in overwhelming beauty and a sense of tranquility that cannot be rivaled.

Quiet winter getaway spot with large fireplace, three room lodge, and cabin rental. Dogs are welcome in the cabins. Owner operators are friendly and helpful. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay are we pursued silent sports. Others were there to snowmobile.

We booked to go skiing back in Feb 2016, to make a long story short we didn't end up going to the hotel. The resort gave us a credit for the full amount and then when we tried to use it we found out the credit was only good for a year. The owner worked with me and we came to an agreeable compromise.

We always enjoy our stay here. The cabins have every comfort and convenience you need or want, including fireplaces and firepits. Love the private docks and free canoe access. Poplar Lake is great for canoeing!

Andy & Ida have a gem on the gunflint trail! Worth the drive for their remodeled resort! Beautiful cabins with screened in porches so you can watch the sunset over the glacial formed, Popplar Lake. Docks with chairs to lounge in the sunshine. Canoes to use, boats to rent and endless trails to explore. Recommend for a quiet getaway, and they are also kid and dog friendly!!

Fantastic place. Very well maintained. If you are looking for a rustic peaceful place to relax you cannot beat this. Very happy with our stay. The fact we seen a moose swimming across the lake in front of our cabin was just icing on the cake.

My husband and I stayed at Big Bear for our one year anniversary. It was Big Bears grand opening and So there was only one other couple there for a couple days we were there and then it was just us. The lake is gorgeous and sits just above the boundry line for the boundry waters so we took a canoe out one day and portaged over to Lizz Lake. It was so beautiful and peacful. The lake that Big Bear is on is a motorized lake but there are only a handful of cabins and a handful or resorts on the lake and we only saw one boat the first day that we were there and everything else was a canoe. The cabins are all renovated and in amazing condition. We stayed in Cabin 2 which is perfect for a couple. Since there werent many bookings, We were able to get a tour of some of the cabins. Cabin 2 and 4 are great for couples and Cabin 3 and 5 are great for families. Cabin 6 is great for those who just need a roof over their head The staff were so friendly and accomidating, and made the stay that much more enjoyable. We will definetely be planning to return in the future. I highly recommened this resort to anyone looking for a peaceful, friendly and beautiful get-a-way.
