We just had our Sons Wedding ceremony and reception here and there are no words to express how beautiful it was. The owner/ chef and his staff were wonderful! The food was truly looked like a piece of art and tasted incredible. I would highly recommend to get on the wait list to have dinner or have a party . The memories we made will be cherished forever ❤️

From the moment we walk in we felt special. The service was outstanding. And it continued till we finished. The menu was amazing, it was hard to pick, all of the choices sounded amazing. From the first course till the last it was all delicious. We made our next reservation before we left.

The website says they open at 6 and take reservations starting at 6. I followed the guidelines on the website and texted the scheduling line. I asked for a reservation either at 6, 630, or 7 and was told they only have 8 or 830 reservations times. I said I was open for any days this year but we needed an earlier time. I was told I was not allowed to make a reservation at any early time and my only option was 8 or 830. It seemed dismissive. I was extremely disappointed. I guess they just don’t want my business.

You will need to order all courses, but it is beautifully presented and cooked creatively and to perfection. The dishes themselves could be just a tiny bit bigger. I once got home and made a sandwich.

We contacted the restaurant in January 2024, looking for a Friday at 6 pm reservation. June was the earliest we could get in. The doors were unlocked promptly at 6 p.m. there is a small porch with seating for guests in waiting. On approach it's a corner home with lots of flowers and gardens. Entering the cafe there are decently spaced tables within a quaint room, enveloped in a farmhouse vibe. We were greeted and sat immediately. We were given the menus and the daily specials. I settled on the French Goat Cheese Croquette, with Baby Arugula, and Truffle Vinaigrette. My partner chose the Kangaroo Tartare, with Quail egg. Both come out fresh, exceptional, and flavorful. My partner's Roasted Rack Of Lamb with fresh Herbs & Hazelnut Crust, was the most impressive bite of the night. It melted in my mouth, kissed my palate with the delicate mint and crisp nutty finish. I would recommend trying this dish, the accoutrements were also so light and elegant. I chose the Boneless Breast of Duck, stuffed with foie gras and figs, wrapped in bacon. While this dish was flavorful, I found myself chewing and wanting to take my partner's plate. Finally dessert, me a creme brulee fan went with the Cappuccino Creme Brulee. I was instantly satisfied. It was perfect. My partner went with the Chocolate Brownie, Salted caramel, Vanilla Gelato, it was well balanced, a small enough portion to not have guilt of overeating, the bite I enjoyed was soft, warm, followed by a crunchy crust and smooth creamy gelato. Overall, we would highly recommend and we plan to dine in again. Oddly, the bathroom is located outside of the restaurant inside of the post office in line with the quaint provincial atmosphere.

A great little BYOB fine dining gem in the middle of nowhere! The food was outstanding. Perhaps not the most daring and innovative flavor combinations, but everything was prepared perfectly and it was all very, very good. The service is very professional without being stuffy. I highly recommend this place!

Excellent presentation & taste I’ve had French and Italian cuisine in both countries and this is up there really good!!! I tried the Kangaroo it was perfect I lived in Australia for a long time and this dish was spot on… well worth the wait for reservations highly recommend this place!!

My husband and I had a wonderful dinner. We had an 8pm seating, and the love pillows were sold out. I really wanted to try them. Everything else we ordered was amazing, so not to disappointed. We made a future reservation as we were leaving, hopefully next time. This is cash only, so plan ahead.

Fine dining in the middle of nowhere. Excellent food that is well worth going to the middle of nowhere. It's a BYO so bring a bottle of wine. The tasting menu is excellent, but you must make reservations months in advance. But again, it is totally worth it.

Birchrunville Store Cafe has been my #1 favorite restaurant for the past 20+ years! I would highly recommend calling for a reservation as they are booked up for months in advance.

Adorable, historic building with peaceful and elegant atmosphere. The staff is classy, friendly, helpful and on point. Food exquisite. Best Lobster Bisque we have ever had.

This was our first time at the cafe. It took some time to get a reservation, but it was well worth it. We had Emily as our guide, as she knew the menu so well and had a fantastic conversation with us that she guided us through the delirious appetizers and main course. Everything is freshly prepared and made perfectly. We finished the meal with their specialty of Butterscotch cake that melted in your mouth. We are hooked, made a follow-up reservation, and will bring our friends.

This is an amazing restaurant the food by the chef is exceptional, the service is outstanding, it’s a BYOB, so you can concentrate totally on your dinning and food experience! The atmosphere can be romantic for a special celebration , but is also charming for a group of friends to enjoy a relaxed dinning experience!

Quaint and cozy.. food incredible and BYOB

I wish I could give it more than 5 stars. We come quarterly, and always have a great time. The food is always fantastic. It changes just enough that you can have a favorite that will probably be on the menu, but the way the food is served changes and is always exquisite. The Oysters are out of this world, and the escargot is to die for. My wife loves to try anything that is unfamiliar or a common dish made in an u usual way. We have never been disappointed with the food or service. All of the waitstaff is extremely friendly and attentive.

My wife and I have dined at Birchrunville many times over the last 20 years or so, but this was the first time we were disappointed. Nothing was egregiously wrong but every item, many of which like the lobster bisque, mushroom lasagna, and lamb duo, are old standbys, veered toward the mediocre. I hate to think that the restaurant is now past its prime and in decline, or is coasting on its reputation, but last night's dinner might be indicative of that.

Everything is wonderful here. You will not be disappointed!

Such a beautiful hidden cafe! Straight out of a story book. The food is amazing! The sticky buns are out of this world. I love sitting at the bar and looking out at the creek or sitting outside. Even on a rainy day it’s so beautiful.

A top notch restaurant in Chester County. Feel so lucky to have such a delightfully charming place to dine in the neighborhood. I love the creative dishes. Presentation and flavor is appreciated. Our server was a real charmer. She offered to mix us a drink since I forgot to bring my bottle of wine. The boneless breast of duck still make my mouth water thinking about it. I found the escargot to be on the salty side. So happy we got the butter scotch cake dessert! Blew my mind! Very charming decor in a country setting location. The wait for reservations might be long but it's worth it. Have to remember my wine bottle next time.

I have dined here several times and have always looked forward to a special meal. That said, we came here last night for a birthday celebration and I am not sure that I will return. We arrived early for our reservation and were planning on sitting at the tables near the parking lot while waiting. It was a hot day, so I came inside and asked whether we could get some water and some glasses for wine while we were waiting. I was told that in order to have wine, they would need to send a server across the street to open the wine, etc. The restaurant was busy, that was fine I said, so I asked if we could just have some glasses for water. I was then told that this is not something they do and intimated some concern that we would steal the glassware, etc. I assured them that we had the reservation later, weren't planning on going anywhere with the glassware, etc. But the answer was still no, so I escalated the request and was told that they couldn't send a server with water because the restaurant was full and busy at the time. I stated that I would carry the water myself and they didn't need to send a server. I was then told that they didn't have time to fill up a few glasses with water. I just told them to forget about the request. A server came out later and came to our table in the parking lot and told us we could hang out on the porch but that the porch table that we were told we could sit at there would be occupied later, so we decided to stay put in the parking lot. Later, one of the other members of our party decided to go and ask again for water and emerged with 5 glasses, being helped by a server. I am not sure if race was a factor (I hope it wasn't but who knows) as my friend is caucasian and I am not. If race was a factor, it certainly would not have been the first time I've seen this movie. Nonetheless, I would think that there could be semblance of basic hospitality here, particularly after the staff made excuse after excuse for why they couldn't provide me with water (too busy, liability, concern about glassware being taken, etc.). The food was fine as expected, but I am not sure that a place that isn't very hospitable for whatever the reason is deserves my business again after many years of coming here.

Lovely place for lunch. We sat outside by the steam and I ordered the Avocado Toast, Strawberry Salad and Yogurt Parfait. The avocado toast had the sweetest sliced cherry tomatoes on top (one red, one yellow,one green). Everything was really good.

Used to be our private little secret, but we told too many people about it. Now you have to book MONTHS in advance. Chef never disappoints. Seasonal menus, something for everyone. Staff great and efficient. BYOB always a plus.

Amazing food coupled with impeccable service.

It's an absolute delight. Make your reservation!!! Every single dish we tried and we tried to get as many as possible was perfectly balanced, flavor, appearance, and texture. The service was fun and flawless. Location is easy to get to and beautiful surroundings. Super easy and plenty parking. It's BYOB place, so you can bring anything you want to have with your food. The ambiance is also perfect. This is an ultra high value experience and cannot say enough great things about it. The menu changes frequently, but guaranteed they will have many things you will love!

Yes. It’s definitely a five-star restaurant. I’ve been wanting to get here for about 20 years, ever since I found it in the very back of a Philadelphia Zagat guide in the suburb appendix! Remember those? Well I now have the Explorer merit badge for my Boy Scout sash because finding this place is no small feat, even with GPS. Know why? Because it’s in a geological hole somewhere in between West Chester and Phoenixville where I could not get a signal to use my cell phone! Anyway the place is charming with a distinctly French feel. The menu included Mediterranean Dorada and Spanish, octopus, halibut, duck. Kangaroo, pheasant and two beef dishes. I don’t think I have ever seen such a range of protein choices anywhere before this. And as they came out of the kitchen each one looked better than the last! The presentations were very impressive. Mine was the halibut which, wrapped around lobster meat, was steamed and sat on mashed potatoes and sautéed greens with a puree of tomato. It was fabulous, the kind of dish you might see in Paris or Lyon. Well done, Birchrunville Tavern! (Even if you are very hard to find.) I will definitely go again. Bon soiree!

Perfect in every way. The staff, the lighting, the perfect table size and comfortable seating, the warm bread, the music and of course the food and desserts, all perfect. The only negative, the long wait until our next reservation.

We've been eating here since 2004 when I found out about the restaurant while cycling through the area. We thoroughly enjoy every meal. The servers used to recite a list of specials that was longer than the menu, I don't know how the staff memorized it all. Now there are a few specials and most dishes are printed on the menu. Timing has improved over the years; I remember waiting a while between dishes in the past. I love the overall ambience and location. We would rather eat here than anywhere in Philadelphia. Remember to bring your checkbook or cash.

Stellar café! The hours are a bit off, but the food and the coffee are sheer perfections. It’s a great spot if you live in the area and a charming place to visit. Make a day of it and enjoy the countryside.

We had an amazing meal in a romantic, intimate setting that was comfortable & allowed for conversation (no loud music, no children) Each dish -- appetizer & entrees-- was beautifully crafted with seasonal ingredients & incredibly fresh-tasting. The pear salad & wild mushroom truffle fettuccine appetizers were outstanding, as were our fish entrees which came with perfectly roasted vegetables. Don't miss the molten chocolate cake with raspberry sorbet for dessert! Even the cappuccino was perfectly made. One of the best meals we've ever had in PA -- we will be back!! Cash only & BYOB.

One of my clients just closed a multi-million dollar deal at this restaurant. The ambiance was perfect, the food was exquisite, and the wine was expensive. If you need that something extra to close, come here. The chef is brilliant!

If you are looking for a fine dining experience then this is a stop you must make. To do so, you must make a reservation months in advance. They are only open certain times and have several setting times. The menu will change each time it is open, but the food was well worth it. The chef is French and he takes great pride with each dish and presentation. So, if you plan on being in this area and want a dinner you won't forget, make your reservation months in advance. Also, you can bring your own wine to have with your dinner.

My husband and I had our 3rd anniversary dinner here and it was unbelievable food! It's clear a lot of effort goes into each menu item, and so much creativity behind each dish as well! Some of the best food I've ever had.

OMG! We were visiting friends in the area and they were able to get reservations as they love the place. We totally agee, the food, service, atmosphere, everything was superb! We can hardly wait to visit again!

THE BEST!!! Tucked away out in the middle of nowhere this is one of our absolute favorite spots! Every meal we have ever eaten has been fantastic. One of the few places we trust the chefs with whatever is on the menu. I’ve had steak, seafood, pork chop, wild boar, venison and so much more. And to top it off their desserts (pictured) are superb. The butterscotch cake is a MUST! Note they are BYOB which is great. Also they only take cash or check. And you MUST call well ahead as they usually book a few months out. But I assure you it’s well worth the wait. Enjoy!!!

What an absolute gem! First off, I love how limited the seating is; you actually get an intimate corner of the restaurant, no matter where you are. The decor is quirky and maybe a bit cheap, but the service is attentive... and all is forgotten when the food comes out. Good chefs master the Maillard reaction; great chefs know how to play with fat to tease out flavors. I woke up today still thinking about the pheasant from last night. I would recommend sticking to the game meats here, which feel like their specialty.

Our first time here and I picked this restaurant for my husband's birthday.They are very popular and very busy and are booked out several months in advance. If you are okay with a later seating, 8 or 8:30 p.m. you might get lucky with a reservation. And that is what I did and it worked out perfectly. The food and service were fabulous! We highly recommended and will be back!

This is one of my favorite dining spots. The cuisine is creative, seasonal and the chef uses many local suppliers so the ingredients are very fresh. The service is excellent. The restaurant has a French countryside atmosphere and decor. Just be certain to make your reservation far in advance.

Consistently the best meal in a Chester County and one of my all time favorite places to eat. Francis and his staff are attentive, friendly and knowledgeable. Reservations can be tough to come by for the weekends. Try to get the outdoor deck table for dining under the stars. Cannot go wrong with the lobster bisque, the duck or the amazing butterscotch cake dessert.

I have wanted to make a trip to the The Birchrunville Cafe ever since a colleague at work raved about it. I was finally able to make a reservation a week in advance with my fiancée for a Wednesday - it was so worth the wait! We did the tasting and everything was perfect, including the ingredients, presentation, and service. Her favourite was the scallop with risotto (photo attached), and I really enjoyed the duck confit and the skate wing stuffed with crab meat, which I have never had before! There were five total courses plus dessert, and we even were even able to take home the last course, duck breast stuffed with foie gras, because we were stuffed too (no pun intended and picture attached). I am making another reservation as soon as possible!

For all the times over the past 10 years I have dined there,I have never had a meal which was not perfect. Not only is the food the best within 100 miles, but the service is every bit as good. Other than having a liquor license there is nothing I would change. Keep up the fantastic work!

I’m sad today to say I did not enjoy my meal at the Cafe last night for the first time ever. We are regular customers and will return as hope last night was just a blip because there is nowhere else that has served such great food and we hope the Cafe is not losing it’s edge. My bread bun was hard as a rock, couldn’t get a knife in it, so I asked for another, that was the same. My husband thought his bun was stale. My appetizer was bland, tomato, mozzarella and beet, the only taste was pesto. My entree was snapper, it arrived cold and no sign of a scallop. The accompanying sauce was too sour to eat. Had the Cupola for dessert which I thought was mousse enclosed by chocolate, but it was more like fudge, very rich and I could only take a couple of bites even though I love chocolate and raspberry. We know the staff well, and they are the best, but there was a new hostess who hovered and wandered around aimlessly looking very surly. It was distracting and I think she must have left her smile back at her last place of work. I can only give 2 stars to last night, but our previous experiences always get a 5 star rating.

Outstanding, intimate dinner spot. The wild mushroom lasagna appetizer was delicious. The salmon entree was one of the best salmon dishes I have ever had. It is out of the way and hard to find but this is part of the charm.

Excellent food both in presentation and taste in an old US Post office building.. Choices of appetizers and entrees with creative fusion influence. Staff were good and informed. BYOB and cash only.

Small but mighty. Delicious menu options that change with the season. Hard to get a reservation but worth the wait. Only thing that I suggest is going to an early seating. At the 8:30 seating they were already out of multiple things on the menu which was disappointing.

Been enjoying Birchrunville Cafe since its opening evening with Francis twenty years ago. We have brought so many friends over the years to our favorite spot and all have loved their experience and returned....We try to visit at least once a month (It's a 45 minute drive, but well worth it!) Servers are always gracious, the menu and presentations creative, varied and absolutely delicious. Just love the glow and ambience of this cozy gem. Congratulations on 20 years of a beautifully sustained creation!

We visited Birchrunville Store Cafe for our first time this evening. Amazing! Everything was wonderful. The food was outstanding and artistically presented. One thing that especially stood out to me was I ordered my steak well done (I know, a true travesty, but that's how I like it) the chef was able to honor my request but still the meat was so tender and delicious, I am sure I could have cut it with a butter knife had I not been provided with a steak knife! So tender and perfect. Seriously everything from the bread to the appetizer to the main course to dessert was absolutely outstanding. If you haven't visited please call and make a reservation asap! Also it was my husband's birthday and they put a sparkler in his dessert, how cool!! We drove all the way from Conshohocken for our meal and it was SOOO worth it!

You have to call and leave a message with dates you are looking for. You will then receive a call back. It’s a wonderful experience—one not to be missed!

Best Restaurant in PA back county. We had to make our reservation more than a month in advance. The wait was worthwhile. This is not your usual chain food outlet. This is a real European style restaurant where dishes are delicately crafted, cooked and served. I ordered the Warm Roasted Fresh Black Figs Stuffed with blue cheese as a starter and then the Lamb Duo as an entree. Both dishes were delicious. Besides the uniqueness of the menu the location couldn't be better. Go with enough time to enjoy the ride through PAs backciunty roads.

The food is excellent. The time to get a reservation is about 2 months. Probably the smallest sit down area for a restaurant. They are only open 3 hours during the week. Pricey menu but real good quality food

Ezekiel prepared several fantastic courses for my wife and I on the anniversary of our first date. All others were very attentive to our needs. The atmosphere was very relaxing as well. All in all, the Birchrunville Store and Cafe is a foodie's dream.
