The food was wonderful and the service friendly

The food is not that great! And I despise the fact that the very people you tried to help their business thrive scam you. The price that shows on the menu and what I got charged are different… Misto $16.50 Kitfo $ 20.00 these are the price I saw on the menu and as a matter of truth you can see the actual menu on here.. one may ask why I tipped after all these for I don’t like taking out the owners intentional deception on the waiter. But after the fact I found out the person I thought is a waiter is actually the owner 😡😡😡

Really great food and GF injera available. There was only one person waiting tables and serving, so allow time, but the food was worth the wait.

I am vegan. I have eaten at most if not all of the top rated Ethiopian restaurants in Portland. I just discovered Bole and this wonderful restaurant has become my #1 Ethiopian restaurant; far ahead of the competition. The vegan combination plate is very generous and the most delicious Ethiopian food I've ever eaten. Even the injera has more flavor than any I've tasted. And the woman who helped me with my take-out was warm and friendly. I can't wait to go back.

In my opinion best Ethiopian in Portland. I've tried them all. Bole is the only one that actually prepares dishes spicy. Had the Awaze Lamb, can't wait to try everything else

I had Ethiopian food after 5 years. It is a family driven restaurant. A beautiful and small restaurant - nothing fancy quite raw. Excellent food.we ordered vegeterian platter. Highly recommended. Samosa is not value for money.

We ordered the Vegetarian Combo + one order of Spicy Chicken. The each of the dishes that came out on the traditional Injera platter was distinct. No blah melding of flavors here! We ordered an extra Injera to continue scooping more into our greedy mouths. Tonight, we are reheating the leftovers (not much left alas) in the oven and are delighted by the flavor and texture of the bread that was under the dishes, so much flavor! We brought friends from across the country and they loved the delicious dishes. My wife and I will be back!

My partner and I went here yesterday on a Saturday evening at 5:15. There were 2 other tables there were seated. We were waiting to be seated and the owner tells us in a low voice, almost as if they didn't want the other tables to hear, that they were out of injera. It seemed off as it was only 5:15 on a Friday and to be already out of injera and two other tables were seated, and to tell us in a whisper? It was off-putting and we thought maybe it was because we were a queer couple. We ended up going to Abbysinian instead. Maybe it was a coincidence, but either way, how do you run out of a main menu item at 5:15 and you aren't a new restaurant and were hardly crowded? There are plenty of other Ethiopian restaurants to try that we are okay not returning to this one.

I stumbled upon this place after a hot yoga class. The owner was very kind and recommended the Habesha beer which was really refreshing. I got the veggie sampler which was incredible! The injera was my favorite I’ve found in Portland. I will definitely be back.

Wonderful service and incredibly delicious food!

Veggie sampler is great - you get a portion of all the veggie dishes, and they’re all pretty good. (Typically I’m not a fan of at least one or two of the veg options, but I liked all of them well enough here). The red lentils are excellent, spicy without overdoing it. And I really liked the texture of the cabbage/carrot dish (shredded smaller so you get a bit of everything in each bite). The place is fairly small, and I think only one person was working when we came in, but it’s good for groups of two or four if you’re up for a leisurely meal.

Food was decent. Service left something to be desired.

We came in after a trying day and were greeted like family. The food was wonderful, coffee magnificent and our hostess felt like that one auntie that shows you all of her love through the food she puts in front of you! Sooooo good. My favorite meal in Portland thus far (and we’ve had a LOT of good food in Portland!). Generous portions. Really affordable. FLAVORFUL! The injera (fluffy spongy bread) was nice and tart, which played nicely with the savory chickpea / lentil stews and spicy, meaty Shekla Tibs. Definitely check this place out.

We stopped at this restaurant on our way to live music and it was absolutely delightful. The service was very personable, and the food was delicious. We ordered the veggie combo (highly recommend), the doro wat, and the tibs. Each one of those was the favorite for a different person in our group. I highly recommend stopping in.

Delicious, comfy family atmosphere

Our waitress was very friendly and our food was amazing. We ordered the veggy sampler for 4 and everyone loved it!

They took 15 minutes to get the order from us and around 30 minutes to get the food out, which was crazy. The lamb tibs were ok, had better ones in other Ethiopian restaurants. The injera was not warm. The vegetarian combo was good. Very little quantity though for the money. Again, I’ve had better Ethiopian food.

Went here after seeing this "underrated amazing place" in an article of top restaurants in Alberta. Having been to an Ethiopian restaurant before, I was expecting a bit of a wait due to the culture, freshly made injera, etc. But I did not expect to wait 50 minutes for my food to be served. I don't think I'll be coming here again.

Such good Ethiopian, took my wife here for her birthday and we were not disappointed, got the vegetarian sampler and the lamb and it was all extremely tasty... We will definitely be coming back ...didn't take any photos unfortunately, too delicious to wait and snap a pic

Awesome local Ethiopian joint - small, cheerful, and delicious food. Every time I go, I love the food. This is a tiny place and they don't have a lot of staff, so be patient with the service. But the food is amazing.

Food is excellent - try the veggie combo, it comes with about eight different dishes and a ton of delicious injera. I'd give five stars and I'd go much more often if it weren't for the fact that their takeout boxes are styrofoam.

A little awkward due to take-out-only (completely understandable). Food was worth the wait, outside, even with a little rain. Will visit again, soon.

EXCELLENT Ethiopian food served here. Currently they are only doing takeaway because of the covid situation. This restaurant is really worth supporting. I've been to Ethiopia several times and have eaten in many Ethiopian restaurants world wide and none was better than this. The owner is a lovely woman. Highly recommended and I will be making another order soon.

My favorite Ethiopian option in Portland. Everything on the veggie combo is delicious, colorful, bright, fresh, clean flavors, and so satisfying. When I want to indulge and eat healthy at the same time, Ethiopian is the best, and this is the best I’ve found. The injera bread was superior to any I’ve tasted, stretchy and soft and perfectly tangy. The whole place smelled delightfully of sourdough when I walked in. I’m sure Bole will be seeing more of me in the future.

This is my new favorite takeout, and in my opinion the best Ethiopian food in town. I like to get either the meat or veggie sampler plates, everything included is excellent!

Tasty food, the veggie options are great and injera good, nice and spongy and on the lighter side. Meat dishes are a little more hit and miss; nicely flavorful but not always tender.

Just ok. The vegetarian sampler was a bit disappointing - most of the dishes were rather bland, and there were items that we weren’t expecting (something made with beets?). My friend ordered the Key Wot, which was nice and spicy, which made the veggies all the more bland. Also, if you order a single main item instead of the platter, you only get that dish (no additional side options). On the plus side, they do provide plenty of extra injera. But I’ll be investigating one of the other Ethiopian restaurants in town next time.

Not my favorite. My experience didn't look like all these other photos. Maybe I caught a bad night. Food was alright, not the worst, not the best. Staff didn't seem to excited to be there. I'll give it another shot though!

Amazing, authentic food. We ordered the vegetarian sample plate with a meat combo. As a party of two, it was the perfect amount of food. For two dishes, it was about $30. I would highly recommend for anyone looking for a new experience or just some good, wholesome food.

Bole Ethiopian may be a small venue but where they lack in accommodations they make up in the food. The servings are large and very flavorful. They have a limited bar selection but enough options that can satisfy most palates. Then, of course, you get to eat with your hands! The service is good and they allowed us to book a reservation in advance for our group of 9. With that said, our group took up a good portion of the restaurant. If you are looking to try or get your Ethiopian food fix, I would definitely recommend putting Bole on your list!

We had the most amazing and affordable food here, made by the wonderful Mulu. She was so kind and patient and the food was incredible. It’s a quiet hidden gem in a sea of fancy restaurants but well worth your time and money. Support Mulu and Bole and eat the best Ethiopian food in town!

Small, hole in the wall, family owned joint. Fabulous Ethiopian food! My brother and I ordered the vegetable combination platter and the spicy beef tibs and lamb tibs. Being my first time tasting Ethiopian food, I loved being able to sample a bunch of veggie dishes, so next time I'll know exactly what to order. The beef was perfectly spiced and the lamb was by far my favorite. My favorite veggies were the green beans & carrots, and the beets. My brother has gone to multiple Ethiopian restaurants in Portland and this by far is the best. I love supporting small businesses in big cities like Portland. These folks work hard and create excellent food. Also, side note, I believe they recently reopened under the new current name in case there's any confusion.

So, so good! Hope to come here again!
