The service was spot on. The food was very good. There are plenty of good offerings in the culinary department. My grand daughter had sushi, which she loved. I had shrimp tacos, which were great. My son had nachos, which came out piled high. The only reason they are getting 4 out of 5 stars is that they don’t have their liquor license yet. Next time I come back to Red River, I’ll check them out again.

I gave a one star rating due to the restaurant being closed when hours listed on Google stated they should have been open, and not having the opportunity to sample the food. (I do understand that small towns have unique challenges. And this town certainly qualifies as a small town) Most of the reviews were positive in regards to the food. While most of the negative ones dealt with the service aspect. Unfortunately for my visit, Brett's was closed on this particular evening. I did notice that it appears the restaurant might be up for sale. This might explain the reason it was closed on a Wednesday evening.

The men’s room sinks did not have any flowing water in either sink. Reported it back to manager and she couldn’t care less and made the excuse it was the building’s responsibility. Wasn’t friendly the rest of the night and didn’t say one word to our large group while paying or leaving.

Let me start out by saying the food was delicious. And that’s where the good news ends. The service in this place is just incredibly terrible. First of all, when I went to check in with the host to tell him we had a party of 7 he was incredibly rude - like we were putting him out by asking him to eat there. When I went back to ask him if our wait was almost up (after 45 minutes) he automatically said, “Nope” and then looked up at the actual restaurant and found a place to put us. He wasn’t even trying to sit us. We finally got our seat and after 20 minutes they took our drink and food order at the same time. We asked them about bringing bread out and they did but didn’t bring us any bread plates. We asked them to bring us plates and they did but 5 of the 7 plates were broken/chipped. I finally went up to the host to ask him to find our waitress because we never got our drinks. When we went to check out the host was actually eating steak on the counter at the front where we were checking out. It was totally unprofessional and gross. Like I said, the food was good but the ambiance and the service DO NOT make it very easy to spend the kind of money they are asking for their food. The prices are high and I wouldn’t mind paying it at all of our experience was better. If you do brave this place, get the cracklins and the mushroom sauté. They were delicious. But just go into the experience with open eyes.

We are annual patrons of Brett's Bistro. Every winter this is our family splurge meal and every visit was outstanding.... We arrived knowing there would be a significant wait as the restaurant only seats around 45. I was fortunate enough to meet the new owner Mike and we chitchatted for a few minutes prior to being seated. Mike you seem like a genuine good guy and I wish you the best and had I seen you before we left I would have told you the following in person. Once seated about 15 minutes later the hostess comes to take our order. I mentioned them being short staffed as only one waitress was rushing around trying to accommodate an at capacity restaurant. The hostess/waitress states she is actually the manager and that they aren't short staffed. She does this to make more tip money. Being a former restaurant manager myself this was a red flag. We ordered crab cakes as an appetizer with coffee and tea. The drinks arrived after I asked the server/hostess/manager about them when our crab cakes arrived. Crab cakes were decent and not overpriced. My wife and I ordered onion soup and a site salad out first but they never arrived. Our two girls ordered the prime Rib with loaded baked potato and cfs with gravy on the side. Prime Rib came with mashed potatoes and the cfs was covered in gravy. My wife and I had the almond crusted salmon. Once the food was delivered and we realized the mistake there was no one in site to tell. I told the kids to make due as the staff was clearly overwhelmed. We never had a single drink refill or table touch to ask us if everything was OK. I asked a buss boy for a box and started to get up to go to the cashier when our manager/hostess/server came to the table. I asked to speak to Mike (owner) but she said he went to get something but never came back. When I told her the discrepancies with our orders and not receiving our soup and salad, she immediately blamed the kitchen and said I will comp your salmon. I did not ask for a comp, just to remove the soup and salad. I must say as a former KM it ticks me off when the front of the house blames the kitchen as an excuse for poor service. I went to the cashier which was my server/hostess/manager and she hands me the check with both salmon meals comped. She left the salad and soup which we didn't get but took off two $38 plates. As I'm paying the table that sat after us and next to us was at the host stand asking our server/host/manager if their food order was put in. She told them yes and that the kitchen was just really busy. The woman states "but we had soup and salad". I left before a response was given. Mike just letting you know. Your manager/hostess/server is scamming you and going to ruin your newly owned once great bistro.

Took 20 minutes for someone to take our order and another 45 for our food to come out. We weren’t given an itemized receipt for our bill. The food is EXTREMELY overpriced for the quality and wait time. We did not get the appetizer we ordered. An order came out totally wrong and was not corrected.

Only writing this because in the past, we have enjoyed this restaurant. We went to enjoy a drink apres-ski. They don’t have a liquor license. Ordered medium steaks and it was so close to raw it was actually cold. It’s a lot of money to not cook a steak correctly. The best way to describe the service is odd…. Desert menu is nearly nonexistent. The pie offerings are in a very shallow pie tin. Any way, we use to know where we would eat in Red River, but now, we won’t be back!

I was in Red River, alone, and wanted a nice meal. Brett's Bistro (now owned by Mike as of about a week) got good reviews and was in easy walking distance, so I went. I had a NY strip steak, and it was delicious, cooked just as I asked for it. Tasty accompaniments, too. early November is off-season in Red River so there weren't many people in the restaurant, but the service was friendly and quick. Also, I'm guessing because things were slow, there weren't as many many choices as the web site suggests, but again, great food and service. What's not to like?

We have been traveling Angel Fire and Red River for a few weeks and this was the best food and service we had. My man is lactose intolerant and Benjamin went out of his way to make sure everything was perfect. Because we didn't want a baker we ordered the fries with the prime rib (seared in duck fat!) and they were the best we've had in a long time. The escargot was delish and their homemade bread with hunks of garlic was yummy. Thank you Benjamin for taking such good care of us.

Wow! That is the first word that came to mind when I ate here. The food was incredible. I went there twice on my vacation, because I loved it so much the first time. High end food, so it is a bit spendy - but it is well worth it - and for a small mountain town, the prices were really not out of line at all. The shrimp I had the first night was outstanding. The shrimp and side portions were generous. The second time, I had a smaller appetite, so I ordered off the appetizer menu. I had the crab cakes. There were two of them, and they were very large. Done to perfection, with a nice sauce drizzled on top that did not overwhelm them. I had two different servers for the two evenings, and they were both great. I have but one regret. They had a book for sale there that I thought about buying, and didn't. Now I am home and wish I had. It was written by Brett's dad about growing up in Red River. I will just have to get down there for a vacation again soon!

Very good experience. Staff was friendly and knowledgeable. Prime rib we ordered was on par with most any high end steakhouse. Tasteful wine list. There were 3 of us for dinner and if I recall correctly the bill was around 220 with all of us having prime rib, an appetizer and a bottle of wine. Glad it was on the first floor of our condo complex because I left happy and swayed my way back upstairs for the night. Overall first class dining and we will certainly return on our next trip. The included picture is the balcony view of our condo which was directly above the Bistro. ******* I just read through the other reviews going down a little ways and I came back to edit my comment. I'm not sure if the reviewers had already had bad days going when they came upon Brett's or what but I will say that Brett Ruth and the entire staff were tremendously accommodating to us and it was almost closing time when we showed up. I would give little or no credibility to most of the negative reviews I read about this place. My experience says to me that those were gross exaggerations. Put this place on your Red River must do list.

If I could give 0 stars I would: I went to eat at Brett's with family that we do not often see. There were 6 of us and after waiting for an hour, we were informed we would be seated at 2 different tables. My husband tried to pull the tables together but we were told we couldn’t, although no reason was given as to why. When we asked how we were supposed to eat together at 2 tables, Ruth Lewis very rudely stated that we would just have to deal with it. When we said that we had waited over an hour to eat together, Ruth made a scene and when we said we were leaving, she proceeded to say “good go ahead” to us. She also hatefully laughed asking if we were going to leave a poor review. I have never experienced such poor service from a woman who obviously does not care about her business or reputation. Please do not support people who treat others in this way - there are many other fantastic restaurants with good service in this town.

I don’t typically leave reviews, but after noticing a few negative reviews I felt I needed to. Whether the recent negative comments are in cahoots with one another or stepped into the twilight zone, I can’t imagine their dissatisfaction. We have been to Brett’s Bistro many times and never had a bad experience with food or service. Most recently, we had a party of 21 for New Years Day dinner and everything was outstanding. So many different items ordered, yet all meals came out at the same time, hot and delicious. The service was impeccable from friendliness, keeping glasses filled and professional. We had a party of 8 for Christmas Day dinner and had the exact same experience. We have also been several times with parties of 2, 4 and always the same wonderful experience. Brett is a fabulous chef! The menu and specials are varied and unique. Everything from burgers, chicken fried steak to seafood. His Panko Fried Chicken with green chili cheddar cheese sauce is amazing as well as the Fried Catfish, Seafood Platter, steaks…I have never had a meal there that was not exceptional. Red River is a resort town with several excellent restaurant choices. The owners of all of them are hands on and work hard to please a demanding public. Brett and Ruth Lewis are 100% hands on, work tirelessly in a stressful environment, always offering scrumptious meals in a friendly atmosphere.

She told me that was no problem. Then I was served both. When we got the check I was charged $4.95 for a potato! At the register I complained that I wasn’t told there would be an up charge. The waitress said she’d just pay it out of her pocket as management wouldn’t let her adjust the bill. And she goes digging in her pockets for the money. Which made me feel bad about a mistake I didn’t make. Overall it was just a bad experience. And it was our last night in town after staying a month. Bill for two with no drinks was $85.00.

We celebrated our 45th anniversary at Brett’s on August 6, 2022. My wife had her favorite entree, lobster tail with mixed vegetables and rice pilaf. The lobster was cooked to perfection and included drawn butter with lemon. I had Brett’s panko chicken with a green chili sauce, mashed potatoes, and mixed vegetables. The chicken was cooked perfectly and the green chili sauce was wonderful. I enjoyed the house Cabernet with my meal and it was very nice. Brett’s is a high-end restaurant that can serve children as well as adults. You won’t walk away hungry but you will want to come back soon!

This place has zero curb appeal and you will likely overlook it amidst the curio shops. The fresh ingredients and wonderfully prepared dishes more than make up for everything else. We had a salmon salad that was fresh and delicious along with one of the finest chicken fried steaks I have ever eaten.

We stopped by for a late lunch and were seated right away near the window. Small place but food was tasty. They have some options you may not find in other places in town like oysters and crab cakes. I tried one of their specials which was a crabcake sandwich. The bun was fresh and toasted and the sandwich was delicious. My guy had a prime rib sandwich with au jus for dipping. The fries were good. Service was friendly even though everyone in town seems short staffed. They were selling books on growing up in Red River. After lunch you can stop by the gift shop in same building.

Pretty sure I got food poisoning after eating here, it was that meal and them bam sick 3 days. Marketed as High end fancy, but low quality oils used, canola maybe… made me just so sick. Please get some real olive oil or cook in organic coconut oil. Red River is this sorta a Texan Redneck vibe, so I get it, people there are happy it seems, its fine, not judging it .. it is what it is.. sorta expected in Red River, but usually high end restaurants use high end cooking oils and ingredients. This, you could tell, clearly, was not the deal here. Gut buster kinda place. Guy that started the place seems like a interesting and good fellow, there was a book about his life on the table. It isn’t personal, my review, just my experience there.

Was very disappointed. Tried to order takeout at 6:45, they did not close until 8:00. We were told 2 different times they were too busy to do takeout orders.

Best fine dining in town. The chef is talented and all of his dishes are curated with taste and appeal. The Desserts are delicious as well. They do great lunch specials as well. I highly recommend dining here while in Red River.

Non-existent service. Waited for a host for 14 minutes. Finally seated ourselves. Another ten minutes without wait staff stopping by. Asked the other patrons and they said it wasn’t worth waiting around for so we left.

Fantastic food and large portions. We had Chicken Fried Steak. They were huge, very tender and flavorful. The vegetables and mashed potatoes were also very good. The service was excellent and very accommodating.
