I heard that this re-opened after more than two years, and wanted to give it a try. I went in for a late lunch on Friday afternoon. The special was fried cod. When served one of the three pieces was undercooked, leaving somewhat raw batter. All the pieces were very greasy and soggy with oil, suggesting the oil used in frying was not hot enough. I had it served with a baked potato. It also was underdone. A baked potato should be 205°-212°. Lesson to the cook - check the oil temperature before frying, and the temperature of other items served to be sure they are done. Get a Thermopen or other fast registering food thermometer, and know the temperatures of different foods when done.

Great local place for a drink and a good meal.

This place is not good for a group over 2-3...even when told a day in advance. Food is good...when you can get it served hot. Service was with an attitude...by the owner. Won't be going back anytime soon.

GREAT place! They REALLY follow Covid protocols so if you are hesitant to go into a restaurant, this is the place to visit. We had the pickle spears and they were fantastic! I had the special of the day, which was a mushroom Swiss burger. It is a freshly made, 1/3 pound burger and it was soooo good. The cole slaw was very good as well. Great service and great food! I HIGHLY recommend this place!

If I could give this place and the owner Mary 100 stars I would. The food is AWESOME SAUCE the service is out of this world.

The only place in the area that not only follows corona virus protocol, but goes above and beyond to protect customers. They even installed a hand washing sink at the entrance. The server wears gloves, constantly cleans surfaces and is strict with mask requirements. This is the only truly safe place to eat out in the entire area. Burgers and fries were great, service was fast and friendly, perfect experience. Every other business in the area needs to take lessons from this place.

Friendly place! Follows Covid protocol to the letter. They even installed a sink for hand washing upon entry. You can have a drink and a good meal and feel safe! Love a place that cares more about their customers than their money.

They have the best breaded mushrooms I have ever tasted! With every bite it's an explosion of garlic butter! The shaved ribeye cheese steak is out of this world! Great service, great food, laid back atmosphere and very reasonable prices! This is def a must try!!

OMG. Just had lunch there. We happened to be in town a stopped in. We remembered the last burgers we had there and were not disappointed. So juicy and done perfectly. HUGE pile of fries, too. My husband had the mushroom swiss and stated it was the best he'd EVER had. And he's picky. It's a 40 mile trip for but will go there whenever we are in Tawas. So good.

Simple but good menu. Definitely a local place but welcoming to all. New owners have made some nice improvements. Great place to be casual and relax.

Was here with a group of 26 The service was good, meals were hot and cooked to order. We alway call ahead for reservations. Would be nice if the owners had more help in the kitchen preparing the food on these dates so that everyone in the group was eating at approximately the same time. The person sitting next to me and also others were still waiting on their food ten minutes after I was served.

Decent food. Good live music today/evening. Good service. Worth it. 🙂

The main bartender is great. The girl with the blue hair takes forever. Doesn't matter if it's a busy night or 3 people in the whole bar. She is super nice but just as slow. Over all good bar.

New owners and they have great menu I ordered the club sandwich it was huge on marble rye bread ! It was built with chicken breast fried ham a ton of bacon cheese lettuce tomato toasted perfect !! Took half of it home was served with chips $8.99 My hubby ordered the Ruben on marble bread toasted! The other couples had shrimp basket cole slaw fries !! 6 large shrimp fried light battered Going back soon !!!

The Buckhorn Inn is a local watering hole missed by most of the tourist traffic. It is just out of town, west of the main drag (US 23) located at 483 W M 55, Tawas City, MI 48763. If you are looking for a bar and grill that offers fair prices and good food then the Buckhorn Inn is the place to go. Come as you are and bring your friends, you won't be disappointed!
