Love everything about this place! Authentic traditional food from central Hungary. I strongly recommend the goulash soup, beef stew and chicken paprikash dishes.

Food, atmosphere, and friendliness of the staff they all nail it. the rice especially was my favorite, and the main dishes are awesome hard to choose. Both the apple lemonade and pomegranate drink were awesome! To add it almost feels like a home and really like home cooking, very welcoming.

I LOVE this place! Been going here for years for the best real Hungarian Food in the whole Pacific Northwest. No joke, only one north of Los Angeles. 10/10!!

This is the best place ever, homemade food made with love by a very wholesome lady. Our server was very nice and explained what was in all of our food and super helpful with dietary restrictions, making sure we had a great experience. I had been wanting to come here for quite awhile but timing wasn't right. Altho my timing was off as I waltzed in @ 11:15...the door was open! Service starts @ noon. Elizabeth was very gracious & I had a bowl of delicious soup while waiting for my entree which was Hunter's Lunch. It comes with a variety of sides & I picked noodles which turned out to be Spaetzle which I adore. Cafe is quite quaint with a map of Hungary so you could see where she came from...Debreken. Came back later for apiece of desert. Everything is homemade. Will come back to try other menu selections.

If you're expecting delicious, healthy, home-cooked European food from this place, you'll be disappointed. I grew up on Slavic food and I can definitely say that the food they call “Hungarian” has nothing in common with the original. For some reason, the owners think that adding a lot of fat and a lot of salt makes food automatically becomes Slavic. Ready-made soups from Safeway are of higher quality and half the price. I also felt cheated when, after half the food was left on my plate, I had to pay $30 for a child's portion. It felt like a scam, so I'll never go back.

Delicious homemade Hungarian comfort food. Fair warning the menu is the selection of 2-3 dishes (per course) made that day and it's authentically central European so perhaps not the most vegetarian friendly. The store also a lovely selection of Hungarian and German groceries, confectionary, and drinks.

Why doesn’t this restaurant have a line out the door? First time visiting and I could literally slap myself for not going sooner. INCREDIBLE flavors and super friendly service. We dined in, but take out is also available. Additionally, homemade desserts and other Hungarian & Central European sweets/snacks/condiments/wines and beer are readily available to purchase in display cases. Go check it out when you’re ready to experience food from the hands of a kitchen goddess. Kind of serious!

Total hidden gem! As soon as I went in, I felt like I walked into an European home 😌 what hospitable service and absolutely delicious 100% homemade food. Drinks were amazing. Because the drinks and food were so good, also had to try dessert. Probably my new favorite place in the area.

This place is old school and unique. The atmosphere is very comforting. For me it's like visiting my Grandma's house. It's full of homy touches. The food is authentic, homemade, and delicious. The ladies who work there are very friendly and make you feel welcome. I humbly suggest the cabbage rolls. They remind me of spending the night at my Grandma's and getting old world comfort food. This place is perfect for people who love eastern European cuisine or want to have an authentic experience .

Looking for a home cooked meal? Then, this is the place. We had everything.. almost.... on the menu, and everything was delicious. Everything was handmade and had my German daughter in law's approval. It was very accommodating, as we had our 15 month old girl twins with us. Definitely recommend if you're looking for a home cooked meal.

I was driving back from Seattle and I decided to stop by at the shopping center by Safeway, it was already 8:45 and wasn’t sure what was open for dinner. First I hit up the sushi fusion place in the strip and I was ushered out so fast because they didn’t want to sit me due to the closing time, even though there were patrons already in there. I wandered down the strip and found this absolute gem, I walked in and asked Elizabeth what time they closed. She said in 15 minutes and already feeling defeated I began to walk out, but she stopped me and ushered me in and served me some amazing food, I had the vegetable rice, grilled veggies and potatoes, along with some bread and a salad. The food and the atmosphere were amazing, and I felt like I was back home enjoying a meal with family. I highly recommend this place, and I cannot give enough praise to Elizabeth and her amazing food.

I did an Uber pick up. 17 minutes after uber notified me that my food is ready I was there to pick it up ( I was there 30 minutes after I ordered the food). When I arrived, the owner wasn’t very friendly. She told me that she’s been waiting for me for a long time and asked me what took me so long. Honestly, I was at loss for words and didn’t even understand where was my fault. I explained to her that I headed over as soon as I got the notification..but it didn’t seem to matter. I hoped the food would be better. It wasn’t. It was very salty and the salad was basically pickled vegetables. I don’t think I’ll be returning.

The food was good. They dont have prices so you can decide what u want, and i paid 40$ for one piece of meat a little rice and probably not even like 5oz. Pricey and not the best

I’ve been there quite a few times over the many years and have never been disappointed. I’ve taken my mother, who is German, there at least twice and she likes the German food there.

Ordered cabbage rolls, green apple lemonade, and Jager schnitzel. Owner didn't seem to be in a good mood when we came, since we got there a few minutes before they were supposed to open. Food was very homely. Will remind you of your grandmother cooking for you when it's raining. Portions a little on the small side.

This was my second visit to the Budapest Bistro, and I am afraid my last. I love the goulash, but this time it seemed like I got half as much for the same price. Also, I think the potatoes had gone bad, the waitress did replace them with another choice. The place is charming, but the owner is taciturn as a tack. I tried to engage her in small talk and completed the restaurant, but to little effect. This was my second encounter and last with her as well. I hope she sees better days.

This cozy little place is a tucked away gem. So much better than predictable chain restaurant food. The menu varies from day to day and all is made from scratch right there on the premises. It's like eating in a Hungarian/German home. The waitress took the time to educate us on what the dishes were made of. If you like eastern European food, you will love this quaint spot.

We were dying for some Germanic food this side of the mountain passes and found this place. Authentic food, though it's batch made, what they make that day is what's available, not made to order. Though we were sad we couldnt get exactly what we wanted we stayed and tried a little bit of most of what was available. The food and service were excellent, we were very pleased with the schnitzel and strudel in particular. They have a small selection of beer and wine as well, several of the beers I've never seen before, the one I selected was great. Price on everything was reasonable but on the higher side given the portion size. Have to go to leavenworth to get germanic food this good around these parts and if the pass is closed us western WA folks can come here! Try it out.

If you order to go, seriously check what’s in the box before leaving. Last time I ordered krémes the box was taped up when I picked it up. I paid full price but what I got was odds and ends. I figured it was a mistake. This time I ordered 3 krémes and some apple strudel. The owner even opened the box and verified the amount of pastries with me before handing me the boxes. When I opened the boxes at home, one of the krémes was literally cut in half and placed in with the others. WTAF?! You can’t be that desperate!

Best place to eat, all Food is made from scratch. You can really tell the food is made with love and you can taste it. My family is from Austria so many of her dishes remind me of the time I spent over there.

I was hungry for some eastern meal. There are options few for Polish, Ukraine or Hungarian restaurants in the vicinity. This time I tried the Hungarian one. I got a dinner to go. The price was higher than the lunch as the meal size was bigger. It came with a cup of soup exactly a cup size and a pathetic looking and tasting beef stew. Not only it did not taste good it is way overpriced in comparison to other Eastern EU restaurants. I grew up in Hungary this restaurant has nothing to do authentic Hungarian cuisine.

Interesting place to try some homemade dishes. Mostly Hungarian plus some German vibe. Food is tasty, awesome beef goulash. I would skip pickled salads though - not to my taste, though I usually like this type of salads. Ladys are very friendly and they have excellent deserts - fresh and unique.

I got a Bavarian cream filled cannoli from here that was one of the best things I've ever eaten in my life.

Placed my order online at 7:18 pm. Received an order number for my 3 dinners and a pick up time of 8:19. Upon arrival at 8:19 I was told they had no order and so sorry but we will not make your order. I won’t ever go here or suggest this place!

Loved this place. I had real goulash. The Spätzle was great and so was the Sauerkraut. I look forward to a visit the next time I am in town.

The goulash was amazing, my BF said it reminded him of his grandma's cooking. The fried potatoes are out of this world, the perfect companion to the goulash. The "iced tea" was very sweet and not what I'm used to when I think of iced tea, but more like extra sweet sweet tea (it was good). No desserts today, but I've gotten the baklava to go before and it was excellent; they have a number of really tasty looking desserts.

Simply Exemplary. It was a delightful taste of Hungary. The goulash was great as expected and the stuffed cabbage was sooo savory. The staff are top tier. Very kind and accommodating. A friend was on a religious fast and had to eat vegan which is a tough order for the rich and meaty Hungarian kitchen. The cook was able to fix up something simple that was still delicious.

Bean soup was good, other food we tried was average or below. For two people we paid almost $70 with tips, I think it was very overpriced for the quality or service but worth trying if you want something different (but it's not the same food as in Eastern Europe).

Elizabeth the owner is wonderful. Food is great. German potato salad is made with vinegar. Not the normal German Potato Salad but very good! Stroganoff is wonderful and do not forget the apple lemonade. ♥️♥️♥️♥️♥️

I am from Poland and back in the 70his there was only one Hungarian restaurant in my city Krakow named BALATON, today I got the beef Stroganov and this is the taste of original grandmas Hungarian food ,tomorrow is the goulash

Previously If the goal for a restaurant is to not let customer still be hungry when they leave, Budapest bistro certainly failed. We have visited here for 2 times. First time: it says open online, but actually closed Second time: we called to make sure it is open. However, when we got there at 7pm, the waitress (without wearing mask) already said they don’t have any food left. 😃 That’s the first time I heard a restaurant doesn’t have food. Would I try again? Yes definitely. Cus I want to see how many times it takes to get me finally able to eat anything here. Never give up. Depends on how the food tastes, I might change the rating. To be continued…

Very overpriced, paid $125 to feed two adults and two children. The meals were $22 a piece, then $3.50 per drink (which was supposed to come with a refill but we were told they didn't have enough of the green kool-aid left so we had to settle for water) and a 5% charge for using debit. The cook/owner and the waitress were not wearing masks (and according to the owner she had just spent one month in the hospital with covid). The food was good, even for a Hungarian such as myself, but not worth the hefty price tag. Also, the owner was very rude. We actually tried to come in about two months before today, walked in at 7pm (hours said they closed at 9pm), and the owner had already put all the food away and scolded us for not calling ahead of time to check if she would still be serving food. Strange woman, unsettling experience. We won't be returning.

Good food, good flavor... however, with the price they charge per entree, they really lack in the portion... Ultimately I'd say it's overpriced instead, as it cost me $22 per "plate"... Not to mention a charge for credit/debit, so just bring cash to save a couple bucks on top of the food prices.

This is a small Hungarian restaurant/bakery. The cozy/kitchy decor, old-world comfort food, and nostalgic family photos remind me of my Grandparents and Great-Grandparents.

Lunch for three. We covered the day’s menu between us. The chilled fruit soup was excellent. The other was pretty good also, the Lecho one ordered was preferred by another, the stuffed cabbage changed hands and the Hunters Meatballs were slightly disappointing due to lack of flavor. The wait person was very knowledgeable and provided great service.

This is about as authentic as it gets. It’s a cozy mom and pop with fantastic food that made me a fan at the first bite. The Goulash and Stroganoff are must haves and the Baklava is fantastic! While they accept card, bring cash if possible, it is much preferred! I will definitely be coming back here for more! 5/5

We got cabbage rolls and chicken paprikas for take out, got home and 2 small rolls and two marinated chicken legs with some pan fried potatoes, $40 .........seriously!!!! Would have been different if it was amazing but was really just...........meh. We believe in supporting small businesses but this is ridiculous. Huge disappointment, won’t be coming back !!!!

My husband and I live in California, but come to Seattle and Whidbey Island often to visit relatives. This restaurant is a must-stop-by for us. We love the lecho, the stuffed cabbage, the cucumber salad, -everything. I wish we had this restaurant close to where we live.. It reminds us of the wonderful small restaurants in Austria and Hungary...

Went here with my girlfriends a few days ago. We were the only customers who came in during lunchtime. The interior is really unique and cool to look at. It gave a very homely feel. I never really had Eastern European food before, so it was an interesting taste! The server was super sweet and enthusiastic. She was more than happy to explain what each menu item was and made accommodations for us since we had to leave early, so unfortunately we couldn't dine in for long. She was not wearing a mask, neither was another employee who rang up the bill. Overall a positive experience, I would come back but probably only after the pandemic gets better.

A co-worker and I decided to try something different for lunch and decided to check out this restaurant, which is a small, cozy place tucked in a strip mall. What a great choice! The food is prepared fresh daily, and is home-made, even the sauerkraut. There are two ladies that run the place, one is the hostess, and the other is the chef, who is Hungarian, so the recipes are authentic. Our hostess was very friendly and explained the menu items, which are featured on a blackboard on the wall. The menu features a nice selection of Hungarian and some German dishes. I had the green bean soup and the beef goulash with spaetzle. The soup had a bit of spice, and was filled with green beans. The goulash and spaetzle was excellent, the flavor was great, and the portions were substantial. My colleague had the jaegerschnitzel. Being of German descent, he has had plenty, and he said the flavor was excellent. They have some absolutely wonderful pastries and cakes in the glass counter case, but unfortunately we didn't have time to try any. I'm looking forward to going back and sampling those in the future. The prices were modest, considering the quality and quantity of food. If you want to try Eastern European cuisine, this is the place!

Absolutely delicious! I was a little hesitant because the entrees were all animal and I'm vegetarian. Elizabeth insisted I let her put together a vegetarian friendly plate for me. Everything was delicious and will definitely be back again.

I will start this by saying I may be a bit biased as I met the owner prior and he invited me to swing by, but that doesn't change how great this place is. My family came in Christmas Eve with less than an hour left open. The food was so good. I had German potato salad, fresh delicious bread, and the stroganoff with potatoes (what can I say, I love potatoes!). It was hearty, the meat was tender, and I will be back for the potato salad. The real thing you should go in for is the desserts. All desserts are made in house from scratch and family recipes. I was so full I specifically asked to take a piece of the berry cheesecake home with me after trying a bite of the one my mom got. Even if you only come in for dessert, the dessert will be worth it. The cheesecake is so light, fluffy, and delicious. And all their desserts are just beautiful to look at. They have a couple of shelves with other prepackaged desserts and assorted foods that are authentic. My family already agreed we will be back. Comfort food for those who want that, and amazing desserts for those who want that. Everyone will be pleased!

Well, today's lunch was not a good experience. The "chicken noodle" soup didn't have any noodles, the cabbage roll was not hot and didn't have much flavor, the "pan fried" potatoes that came with it were soggy and also didn't have much flavor. The bread that was served first was the best part of our meals.Hopefully other days the food is better. Its name says that it is a "Hungarian" restaurant, many interesting photos on the wall. Loved the mural on the wall. We were shocked at the prices when we got the bill - we could have had a better meal at McDonalds for half the price.

Well... I've worked here for almost 6 years now so I might be a little biased, but we do make all dishes from scratch using recipes either created by Elizabeth or handed down from her grandmother who started teaching her to cook when she was 10. We cut up fresh fruits and veggies, cut our meat in-store, even grinding, mixing, and filling the casings for the delicious, all-natural sausage. The menu changes daily and not all things in her extensive repertoire are always available, but if you call ahead, she'll do her best. If you have a group of more than 4 or 5, please give us notice as there's only 2 of us and we want to give you the best possible service. Right now, we've got all kinds of yummy Christmas goodies from Europe and this is sausage making season so come on in. We sell out quickly, so don't miss out. We look forward to serving you soon.
