Café Colucci is truly so ~special~ not only is their food absolutely amazing, the ambience of the restaurant impeccable and colorful, but the vibes are so wholehearted. Cafe Colucci is not just a restaraunt, it’s a place where community comes together to celebrate culture, food and connection. Once I became a regular they started remembering my order, remembering my name, and when I would go in I would get sincere “how are you?” I feel seen and welcome. I go there to get nourished by both the sense of friendship and belonging, as well the AMAZING food, with heirloom Ethiopian spices, fresh produce, and fresh mango juice. Cafe Colucci is an example of a food shop totally engaged with the community theyre in, and totally engaged with the community in which the food heritage belongs, and doing the food proper homage by letting it be about community- what good food is truly about. I moved away from my home in Oakland to go to grad school, and Cafe Colluci is one of the places my heart longs for as I’m away!

This is some of the best Ethiopian food in the Bay Area. Plenty of parking, and the Doro Tibs, Mushroom Tibs, Gomen, and Kik Alicha are incredible. Highly recommend for both small intimate dinners (or lunch) as well as large parties. They also have a great area outside if you prefer and the weather os good.

This use to be our favorite place in the East Bay because not only did it taste really good, but the prices were ok and the portions were big. I would always order the meat sampler and was able to substitute the veggies for another meat dish and pay a small fee, worth it to me. And now that isn’t an option. The portions have gotten smaller for each sample, even on the vegan one. And the salad portion larger (to take up more space on the platter?) I use to be able to split the meat dish with my son and still struggle to finish it, now we left hungry. And like someone else said , you pay extra for pure teff injera , which most places do now, but they charged us extra x2 (for each dish ordered), so we ended up paying an extra $5 to have pure traditional injera. The food still tasted really good, just wish there was more like there use to be. Also, it took a while for the food to come out even though there were plenty tables open. Seemed like a lot of take out orders going through, so probably deceivingly looked not busy. Long story short, this won’t be our first go to anymore. So sad 😭. The people working there are really lovely… but we don’t go there for that only.

Some of the best Ethiopian food I've ever had, served by friendly and helpful waiters. The space is a bit cavernous with an open kitchen and very high ceilings, so it's not a romantic candle-lit evening affair. But it's exactly the kind of place I love - authentic, delicious, reasonable prices, solid service.

I've been going to cafe colucci since I was a kid, always loved Ethiopian food and still do. I used to think cafe romanat was slightly better than colucci but since they moved to the new location I think it may be back at #1. Everything there is so delicious and the spices etc are perfect. Not to mention also pretty healthy! And the new cocktails they have are interesting and different but also very tasty. And ambiance on the new location is really nice too. 10/10 fabulous food and drinks, lovely staff, and nice place to eat in and bring friends. Highly recommended 👌 👍 👏 💯

This was very disappointing. We called to see if they had a patio & if it was dog-friendly & they said yes. When we got there, the guy at the front said there were no tables at the moment, but there might be in 15-20, so we waited. Then we heard a female server tell people they could go see if there were tables on the patio. I said we'd been waiting & she were super rude about how they had no tables for us. I doubt I'll go back.

The service dining at night has not been good, the last time I waited a very long time for my food and the bill, it wasn't even busy, we haven't returned to dine in since. I will stick to delivery or takeout, though sometimes I ask that they not swap items out on Doordash and refund instead if my order is unavailable and they don't listen. The cocktails are creative and I like the little market inside. The lady with the tattoos who works daytime is nice.

One of the best Ethiopian spots in the East Bay. Food is always delicious, menu and beverages are extensive, the atmosphere is cool with good decor and good Ethiopian music, and the staff is always super friendly and warm. I love them so much I’ll drive across town just to treat myself to a Colucci meal. As an aside, somehow the staff are always really good looking lol. My friend thought it was some kind of Candid Camera prank at first because they seriously all look like models! Regardless though, Colucci is a classic. Don’t hesitate to eat here!

Very lovely place with very nice service. The food was delicious! The back patio was decorated so well and made it really homey! 10/10 Went back to this place, and took some more pictures 😀. The outdoor decor speaks for itself, and so does the food! I thought some friends here, we had the vegan sampler, Wot with chicken, and Buticha all on one platter. We also had the wheat blend injera. Buticha is my personal favorite 🤗. This was also a very good deal, I had leftovers for days even after stuffing myself completely full!

I feel like there are a handful of white women that work here that give major attitude. Such a turn off to come to an African restaurant with such beautiful food and be greeted with such nasty attitudes EVERY TIME. Over it. Snobby, rude and just overall ugh. I always take out because who wants to stay just to get eye rolls from the server.

It was good. I had a meat platter. I believe the choices were meat or veggie platter. I wish there had been a combination platter. I personally don't like the bread (not the orginal one nor the other one) so it was a bit weird to just eat meat. Prices are high so for a single person lunch it felt prohibitive to order two dishes. My child had lemonade. She liked it. But there wasn't anything else more kids friendly. If I had a dinner with 4 people, I think I'd reconsider it, where all plates are shared and you get to eat a variety. We spent close to $50 for a daughter/mother lunch which I find extraordinarily high for what it was.

I went to a couple of other Ethiopian restaurants before, but this one was the worst. The teff injera costed extra, and it was served COLD! I always had hot injera in other restaurants, so it was shocking. The portion of the meat sampler was very small compared to other restaurants I went. I order another dish (wot), but it was tasteless. Quite disappointed.

Incredible quality food, a real gem! I took the time to learn more about the spice company, it sounds wonderful that they have set up a place for Ethiopians to grow spices with integrity and have workers paid fairly. The food is absolutely delicious! Lots of great vegan, vegetarian, and pescatarian options. What comes out of the kitchen is nicely spiced, but I usually end up kicking the heat up a notch with a sprinkling of mitmita. The service is usually great. My only letdown was once when I walked in half an hour before closing on a particularly busy night only to be turned away. I sometimes come for lunch and sit in the back patio area. They have a full bar now after waiting forever and a day to get their liquor license moved over from the previous Telegraph Ave. location. I wish the wine list had more options, but what is there is decent. I do enjoy the spiced coffee when I'm in the mood. I have tried the kava and it wasn't for me, but still impressed they even have it.

It feels like a very casual restaurant. I think servers could be a little more attentive, but otherwise everyone has a great attitude and energy. It’s a mellow vibe. The food is delicious! I always get the vegan sampler. What’s interesting and a little disappointing is the serving of injera you get when you dine in versus ordering for pickup or delivery. Dining in, you’re often served a basket of injera with your meals. However when ordering to-go, you do not get any extra injera. Now, I have never looked closely at the bill when dining in to see if the unsolicited basked of injera carries an extra charge. I wouldn’t think it does. If they packed the extra injera, no doubt this review would be 5 stars. Regardless, the food is always good!

Really disappointed with Cafe Colucci. I've eaten here for years and it's always been great. Not anymore. It's a rip off. The quality has gone down and so have the portions by a LOT. They replaced one of the meats in the combination with brown quinoa. It was literally a few pieces of meat a bunch of quinoa and a sorry chicken leg. It just seems really cheap. Its way too expensive for what you get. Even the vegetarian combo was pathetic. I will never recommend this place again. It used to be such a good go-to but that's over. Go somewhere else.

The food here was great but we had a pretty shocking server. For the owners, the person is a stocky woman with tattooed hands. I’m sure you know who it is. She ignored what we asked for (anpps and drinks) and just told us what she thought we should order instead, then I guess that was our order. The table next to us had a similar experience and we exchanged a few confused glances. My wife has social anxiety in restaurant situations, so I’ll usually take the lead. This was certainly deemed as being part of the patriarchy and I was ignored while my wife was forced to agree with the server’s decisions on our meal. The server clearly has issues, the most noticeable in this situation being “Nobody cares about your projections on, and imaginings of, who you might be serving. Just be nice.” Honestly she was a lot. Slamming things down, bullishly pushing her way past us, other patrons and staff. What we ordered was great. What she decided we were to have was fine, but not what we wanted. Much like the table adjacent to us, we’d very much love to come back, but that server simply shouldn’t be a server.

When you first enter the café, you're greeted with an intoxicating aroma that sets the tone for the rest of the meal. Every plate is served from a sizzling skillet and features a delightful melange of spices that perfectly complement the various cuts of meat and veggies. We sampled several dishes but my personal favorites were the doro wot (chicken in a spicy brown curry sauce), assa gored gored (tilapia), and sega tibs (cubed beef sauteed with onions and peppers). For those with dietary restrictions, there is a vegan version of nearly every item on the menu and the traditional injera is gluten free. Would highly recommend for anyone looking for a hearty, delectable meal in a lovely setting.

One of our favorite Ethiopian restaurants. We usually get the vegan sampler and the minchet wot (very spicy ground meat). The typical bread, injera, comes as a house mix that contains regular flour or as a traditional version which is gluten free, and I think also tastes better. All food is great and there are very distinct spices. It's not cheap but you'll get high quality food that tastes great and is probably very healthy and a lot of it. Service is very nice and helps with the menu if necessary. It's not a major issue but the only thing I would improve is the selection of available beers. Still loving it.

My niece and I just liked the experience of using the injera bread to pick up the wonderful variety of sample dishes. Be sure to try the injera underneath all that sampler food! Loads of flavor gets soaked up in the injera base! The honey wine was fine for me and we also ordered the basil and mint lemonades. We almost ordered appetizers. Ended up with so much to eat, appetizers were unnecessary. We ended up with loads of take home for snacks later!

Visited this Ethiopian spot last minute on a friend's recommendation and wasn't disappointed. My vegetarian buddy and I appreciated the diverse menu. While they boast different types of injeera bread, they all tasted similar and sour to me. Service was commendable—our waitress was not only attentive but also offered suggestions, which we tried. The veggie sampler was the highlight of our meal; it was flavorful and satisfying. The meat sampler, however, left much to be desired. Most of the proteins were dry, with the chicken on the bone being the sole standout. Sharing a single chicken leg on a sampler was a bit challenging. Would suggest they reconsider the protein selections for a more balanced experience. Clean setting and good vibes overall. Would return, but might stick to the vegetarian options.

The place overall is really nice and has a great atmosphere, however it does feel a bit commercial with the whole spice shop right when you come in. I thought the food tasted a little off. The Shiro came and it didn't seem very warm, but the texture was good and the flavor was okay. The doro wot was not good, it tasted overly sweet and lacking in complexity, honestly quite disappointed in that dish. The lamb tibs were good, it came on a cast iron platter which I've only experienced in Ethiopia, so that was legit! Teff injera was 2.50 extra, which is understandable because teff is more expensive. But it would be nice if the one that tastes more similar to what you'd find in Addis be the same price as the blended injera.

I ordered 2 veggie combos ( takeout). The yellow split peas could have cooked longer( some hard pieces), the collards & cabbage had no flavor, & I'm not sure what was on top of the salad making it soggy but I think it should have been on the side...especially with a takeout order. This was my 2nd time here. . .especialmente con un pedido para llevar. Esta fue mi segunda vez aquí.

Only got a picture of our vegetarian platter because the meat platter disappeared too quickly! But trust me, we had the kitfo and it was great! Loved it ! Flavorful, delicious, filling, a great place to enjoy with friends. We had the meat and vegan samplers 2 orders of each with eggplant added and left stuffed. I also bought spice for my cooking at home. It is great on chicken. Highly recommend. Overpriced crap compared to the previous location, and it's very obvious that ownership has changed (even though one of the servers--not from Ethiopia, just like most of the current staff that we saw--said otherwise). Started with providing me a different house red wine than I had ordered, without telling me initially that they had run out of that one. We ordered the "thinly sliced fried potatoes" appetizer, and a plate of (what looked like) potato chips randomly sprinkled with--rather bland--berbere spice showed up, for (what suddenly seemed like an exorbitant) $10. Half of those chips were so soggy in the center that I could easily fold them into halves, and the young female server told me that's how the dish is supposed to be! (Ahem....) In the entrees, the collard greens were stale, so much so that I got a bad stomach upset by late that night! The ground chickpeas were topped with creme fraiche, instead of the traditional Ethiopian crumbled cottage cheese that we know and love in more authentic places. The Doro Wot (national chicken dish) lacked oomph, for want of a better word. Miss the old place, and will not return to this one!

I wish wish wish I could give this 5 star. After having eaten take out twice from her I feel able to submit a review. Food was absolutely amazing at the old location. Missing the authentic women who ran the show at the previous location. I wanted to give this location a couple tries before reviewing. Ordered both the meat and vegetarian combos twice. Food is definitely missing a certain something. I can't put my finger on it but there's a certain flavor that isn't there. Flavors was been a bit bland. Carrot cabbage (AtaKilt) dish was overly sweet. Questioning whether I will eat here again. May try to eat in house to give it a complete dismissal.

We’ve been coming to Cafe Colucci almost weekly. The Shiro Wot is our favorite. They also do take out if you can’t dine in. We love how they have a lot of spices you can buy and make the dishes at home. If you’re struggling making injera at home, Cafe Colucci sells injeras that you can take home! The staff are super nice and friendly. There’s backyard seating with heaters too! 100% would recommend this place since it’s one of our top 5 Ethiopian restaurant in California. :)
