I have been here before . Yet again when one drives by a place You Tube thinks you actually visited . Then they ask you a question but you can't give your answer you have to select one of theirs . Really ?

The service is alright. When it’s busy sometimes they can forget you but the ambulance is so cute so I’m never in a rush. The food is pretty good you have to know what to get but the portions are kind of on the smaller side. They use local ingredients which is a huge win and again the ambience is amazing. However the prices are pretty steep for the smaller amounts and the alright food. All of their desserts are good BUT it’s because they’re form the bakery down the street. If you like the desserts you can get them at morningside without the mark up.

We were camping about 30 miles away and stumbled upon this gem! Drew, our waiter was fantastic and he made our meal an event not just due to the great food but by making us feel important and wanted! That can be a bit rare these days and we actually went back for a second tasting, and to pick up my ATM card I left in the envelope on the previous day.

Lovely brunch menu here! Could have tried many other dishes. Something for everyone. We enjoyed the crepe special with oysters and the salad nicoise with scallops. Sat outside under a large 3 season awning where we were comfortable out of the sun. The hostess & our server were friendly and relaxed. Too bad we’re not closer to take advantage of this superb restaurant.

Delicious lunch of gazpacho, mussels, and chocolate bombe. Food was fresh and well seasoned. Staff were attentive and gracious, atmosphere was casually pleasant. I enjoyed watching the chef in the open kitchen. Next time I’m in the area, this will be my first dining choice.

Third time here this year and it just keeps getting better. The chef has to be the most outstanding gourmet chefs for miles around! My husband and I make a special effort to stop here in Brandon any time we travel up and down Vermont. Such a joyful experience to dine at Cafe Provence! The service was delightful and staff are obviously well trained. Oh yes, it can get gay as this us a very popular restaurant!

Excellent food but the meal was strained by really mediocre service. 15 minutes after sitting down we still didn’t have waters. After 10 more minutes we had to ask if our wine was coming. At the end of the meal we sat for 20 minutes waiting on someone to get the check. There were probably 8 other tables but the staff seemed completely overwhelmed. The food was excellent so we would return but having it’s a bit more organized next time.

My daughter and I had lunch. The food was good but service was terrible. I honestly think our waitress was on some medication. She brought out our food after a bit of a wait but we had no silverware. She said she would be right back, a few minutes later she was polishing glasses at the bar. We were sitting outside so my daughter went inside and grabbed some silverware off a table. We ordered a ginger ale which never came. We never saw our waitress again until we went inside to pay our bill. Apparently some other table got our bill and paid it so she had to recreate our tab. She seemed to really be struggling. The hostess, who she told us was her daughter was not around so she was on her own. We finally left but I felt sorry for that woman, I hope she is ok. That job seemed too be much for her.

Great food. Service was horrendous. Don’t go. It’s not worth it. The owner appears to be a self absorbed chef who does the cooking while total chaos happens around him. He has the big chef hat too. This is the third time we’ve tried it. It’s totally mismanaged. Nobody is running the place. The food is good but you won’t get a second drink or even an add on to your meal. Ridiculous doesn’t describe it. The locals have to be pretentious and pretend they have a place that’s appealing. It’s the same nonsense that keeps many places in Vermont open. In any real city this place would be closed in 6 months. Good food and if you have 3 hours to spend and want to bring your own food and drinks to hold you over after the initial order than this is the place for you ! I actually saw the people at the table next to us today begging for the check with total disgust for 20 minutes trying to get out of there. Then some local fool from the table had to stop by to thank the chef in the big hat on the way out to kiss his ass for the poor service. If you have a brain you know what type of environment I’m talking about.

Living in Middlebury, we often forget about Brandon, but we always have such a great time when we go! This was our first time at Cafe Provence for dinner in ages, and our first time sitting inside and not out on the patio. The food was absolutely amazing, the atmosphere was wonderful, and our server Dawn was one of the best we’ve ever had in Addison County! Perhaps our favorite part was that we could upcharge for a split entree, and the presentation was fabulous. I love to get coffee and dessert after dinner as well, and this did not disappoint. They even have a dessert sampler! What could be better! We can’t wait to return!

This was my second visit with family. We had good experience with a great waitress. The staff was stretched by the Friday night crowd so service was slow at times. the small kitchen was also challenged by the size of the crowd. The number of tables and dining room size, if near capacity, would certainly cause the kitchen to choke. That said, the haddock with crab cake and duck 2 ways entrees were expertly presented and worth the wait. They have a nice wine list by the glass and by the bottle. Beer and cocktails also on offer. The rolls were hot with plenty of butter available. Desert was excellent and a light choice was available. The noise level was moderate to high after the room was nearly full. I would have preferred a bit more room between tables. We will go again.

It’s been a quite a few years since we’ve eaten at Cafe Provenance, but in the past we had great food and service, and expected the same. Really disappointing. We walk in with no reservation and ask if they can accommodate 2 people. No problem. They seat us and not too long after a guy brings us water. After that it took a long time for the wait staff to take our order. Food came promptly, but just o okay. Not a lot of flavor. My spouse ordered salmon wrapped scallops and I had the baked haddock topped with a crab cake. The sauce was bland. Lots of bell peppers (too much). The waitress seemed annoyed when we asked about the prices on the specials and her overall demeanor was not friendly. It will be a while before we go back.

Dog friendly (outdoor seating) in the warmer months. Some seats are covered but we sat out in the open which was perfect on a comfortable day as the sun was getting into the shadows. They bring bowls of ice water out almost immediately for the dogs. Food was absolutely wonderful, with the exception of the cheesecake I didn't feel was as good as everything else we ate (was not bad, just nothing special nor my preferred type of cheesecake, YMMV). We had a few apps including the escargot salad. For an entrée I had the salmon wrapped scallops. Scallops are always a dicey order and often aren't cooked properly but everything was put together and cooked perfectly. The beer list was nice with a lot of local craft brews. Very relaxing meal with great service and food.

Today was our second time visiting Cafe Provence..six years ago we walked out after waiting for an hour after we ordered with no food and no explanation...we thought perhaps they were having a bad day let's give it another shot..today we made reservations..10 minutes after being seated we still were not even approached..so I went back to the waitress who sat us and was told she'd be right there...she came over and proceeded to tell us she was the only one on..not even an attempt at an apology just a kurt "I am the only server right now"... we ordered and 45 min later she came back to say they had to re make my husband's chicken cordon bleu...no attempt to save the interaction with offer of a second beverage or soup or rolls, we felt like an inconvenience...20 minutes later our meals arrived...again with no apology...we gave you a second chance but we are done...

We had Asiago Cup Salad, Caesar Salad, and side salad for appetizers and all were perfect. I wish we could buy the asiago cups!! Dinner rolls were served piping hot and wonderful. The entrees were divine! For the first time I tried one of their pizza's, (the Portobello) and the meatiness of the mushrooms were very well balanced by lemon zest--- a combination I have never seen before. My dad greatly enjoyed his steak, and the server Dawn perfectly recommended a gluten-free combination for my Mother that met her VERY strict standards (this is a woman that is nearly impossible to impress at restaurants). Nice quaint town. Several options for places to eat in Brandon, Vermont. Not on Sunday. Cafe Province was the only place open. The atmosphere and food was great. 5pm, the hostess greeted us and escorted us to a table with a menu. We wait. My girlfriend and I had a large lunch earlier, we ordered a pizza to share. She had an unsweetened tea and I had a mixed drink. So, our bill was close to $40 total. The server mentioned the specials for the evening. The restaurant was empty. Four women show up. They were seated next to us. The sever was at their table several times. It would have been zero effort on his part to turn towards us to see if we needed anything. Instead, he turned around and ignored us. It doesn't matter if our tab was 40 or 100 dollars, we are still your customer. He had someone else bring over our pizza. The only time he came over was to give us our bill. I tipped him for the drinks only. That was the only time he came over to our table. Ok. I had on a t shirt and blue jeans. I wasn't business casual nor did I wear my $500 dollar pin stripped suit. It shouldn't make a difference. Simple put, I DON'T LIKE BEING IGNORED.

We had a reservation for dinner. It wasn't busy at the time and we ordered 3 salads and dinner. It took 45 minutes to get 2 salads. They said something about the pizza place next door being closed which was causing a backup for our pizzas. However the pizza was cold and obviously sitting for awhile before we got it. one of us didn't even get the salad and when he reminded the waitress about it, it came missing the chicken. The chicken we did get on the salad was really dry. I think our total wait from sitting to getting our food was almost an hour and a half. Our waitress wasn't very personable or attentive either (another one had brought drinks and a couple of items who was more friendly) $130 for salads and pizzas that were cold is really steep. I would not recommend

I was in Vermont for a 10 day road trip and staying with a friend in Middlebury and the main purpose of the trip was to watch my grandson who plays on the UVM hockey team in Burlington. The first days of the trip my host and her brother and wife wanted to go to the Cafe Provence in Brandon and off we went. Didn't know quite what to expect but the menu looked exciting and we all had different selections. I went with the calimari and greens and it was Wow, some of the best calimari I have ever had. So light and crispy, no rubber at all and totally loved it. The others all very much enjoyed their choices. Went for a trio of desserts, the maple creme brulee stood out along with the like chocolate brownie with ice cream. One of the best meals I had by far in Vermont. Wait staff most friendly and accommodating and always love the open kitchen vibe. We enjoyed the food so much, my friend and I went back a few days later. I loved the calimari so much I had that again and also opted for the French Onion soup and that was a meal in itself and was excellent. Again a couple of desserts. This time the maple creme brulee was in a different type container and maybe made by another hand as not quite as good as the first time I had it. My only negative and a most minor one. For sure if in this area, I would put Cafe Provence as a must stop. It was of great value and prices more than fair. Jim at Maplelag in Minnesota

Terrible experience. Waitress copped a major attitude and we had no idea why. It takes a lot for me to write one of these. I had to chase her to get her to wait on us. Literally. I guess the $220 bill for four that they gave us wasn’t enough. We asked to see the manager and she told us SHE was the manager. And then she argued that she was just sooo busy and I’m sorry about half the tables no more were occupied. The food was not even middling. The seafood stew was slop. Don’t get it. We were staying in the area and based on reviews from various sites we made a reservation to have dinner at this restaurant. Upon arrival, we were quickly seated and met our waitress. We really wanted to like this place. We ordered a bottle of wine and reviewed the menu. We then heard about the specials from our waitress. We seldom eat red meat but the steak special sounded great, so we both ordered the strip steak with flavored potatoes and a vegetable. This is reportedly a French restaurant with the chef on-site and involved in the food preparation. Well, after ordering our waitress returned and advised she was incorrect on the potatoes, they would instead be garlic mashed which was fine with us. The wine was good and our dinners arrived. The potatoes were apparently over whipped as they were basically a liquid pool for the steak to sit in. The potatoes did not have a hint of flavor, garlic or otherwise. The steak was cooked properly (medium for both of us) but also was flavorless. It seemed to be a nice cut but somehow there was simply no flavor. The green beans also had little to no flavor. Despite this, we ordered dessert. The DW had cinnamon bread pudding while I had the creme brûlée. Both desserts were mediocre, not what we expected from a fairly highly rated French restaurant. Possibly it was an off day, but we were really disappointed with our meals. As stated previously, we really wanted to enjoy and like this place but it was simply not the case. When the check arrived our dismay only increased. We cannot possibly recommend this restaurant.

I've eaten here many times, and never been disappointed. Their cassoulet is one of my favorite meals anywhere, but even the burger or the omelet is great. Highly recommended.

A true hidden gem. The food is delicious, and the prices are very reasonable. We went for lunch. I had the salmon, and my husband had seafood stew and a lovely squash soup. All of it was superb. Gourmet Provence is well worth a drive to Brandon. Highly recommend.

Wow … was not expecting that. I understand staffing is an issue but completely ignored by wait staff and basically made to feel like we were a burden by just being there….. seriously you are better off not being open if you are not going to actually wait on your customers. Sad….

Owner/Chef was present doing the preperation himself in the open kitchen. Entree was fabulous, staff first rate and ambiance perfect. Price was very reasonable. Definately a repeater. The Vermont snowstorm outside only added to the warmth and comfort of the evening inside!

Chef and owner is very talented and award winner French Chef. His ingredients are fresh and food buttery delish. Last time we had brunch and egg Benedict was good special. I had the spinach and my husband had the lobster. It was very fluffy and light. My mother in law loved the flourless chocolate cake.

Everything cooked perfectly and every bite delicious. No complaints. Socially distanced space, friendly, knowledgeable staff. Ample dining time with no pressure to rush. All in all, this is a class act and can’t wait to return.

On a cold but sunny day we stopped at this place on our way up from the south. The place has a warm and friendly ambience, service is prompt and very friendly. The food was outstanding. We recommend this place and will probably visit it again, though a long way from Burlington VT.
