This used to be my wife and I's favorite date night spot for live music / events, but over the past couple months this establishment has gone down hill. There are young men screaming in the back room and slamming billiards equipment, fostering a hostile environment. The bartenders are amazing ladies, but they've been allowing more stuff slide than I've seen in the past. Not to mention, some nights it's a challenge to use the restroom as there are only two private men's bathrooms. It's incredibly frustrating to wait for 5+ minutes to use the restroom just for a group of young men to come out all at once. What's going on in there? We will be trying out other bars in the area. Service is great, but atmosphere is unpredictable and has frightened my wife more than once.

Communist not acustume to free speech among non violent patrens American citizens you're not allowed to have an opinion about anything. And speak loud enough so the other person can hear you over the music that's playing so you must have to agree with everyone else around you or be made to leave I believe that Is communist if you rebut if you don't agree and they tell you to leave if you have facts and prove people wrong peacefully don't go unless you are Irish catholic

The cottage pie was fantastic, and the drinks were cold and tasty! Definitely visit here if you're in the mood for some hearty Irish cuisine and yummy drinks! They have a large selection of whiskeys as well

This place is a shack, it's dirty, it's expensive, the food is bad, the service is non-existent as bartenders can't be bothered and the owner is obnoxious and totally unprofessional. First time will also be the last. So many better places to go for a drink or food in Dover! My advice is to stay away!

This was a last minute choice for us…we walked in to live Irish music playing. Service was great…and the grilled goat cheese toastie was AWESOME as well as the Reuben. We will come here again next time we are in the area! We felt a little like we were in an actual pub in ireland. 5 stars!!

Menu needs updating. There's not much on it. The menu has finally been updated and they've done well. More choices. Bigger portions would be nice though

Best bar in Dover all around wouldn't recommend any other bar over Caras, Bartenders pay attention, polite n pay attention to their customers. Pool table n darts in the rear which is a must for me and fantastic steak and cheese sub. Skip Furies n go to Caras

Cara's is definitely my favorite Irish Pub, and my first choice when I want to grab a drink, or go for a higher class dinner than my usual places. They have lots of seating, tabels, high tabels, large family-sized booths, the bar, and a deck with outdoor seating for the nice weather. They have a pool table in the back along with a dartboard, and places to set your drinks down. Their food is killer every time! Everything I order from them tastes amazing and for those with dietary restrictions they do accommodate. Probably my favorite thing about Cara's is there's always somthing happening, whether it's Open Mic, Music Bingo, Trivia, etc. Cara's is the perfect place to go "out" for any occasion, with a homey feel of Irish warmth.

Stopped here for lunch on the weekend. It's very much an authentic Irish pub. Staff was very friendly and place was clean. The burgers were awesome! As good as any I've had in a gastro-pub anywhere. Irish food is also (obviously) featured. My salad (I know, but i was hankering for a Caesar salad) was one of the best restaurant salads I've had - fresh lettuce, right amount of dressing, cheese, and croutons. My 11 y/o son actually ordered a second salad (!!). I wish we lived closer, but we will definitely stop by again when we are in town!

Food was too oily had to pay but didn't touch it

Tonight I had the worst steak and cheese sandwich ever. It looked cheap and fatty when it arrived. The salt was overwhelming on both the sandwich and the fries. I have had bad meals here before and stopped ordering food, but a couple of weeks ago I noticed that the food looked good, so I thought I’d take a chance. When I complained to the group of friends that I was sitting with, I was told that the chef that created the appetizing food had left and that’s too bad because until I see the food improve again, it will be Guiness only.

Great pub atmosphere, excellent bar maid( can you still say barmaid, or am I being offensive), great food, and really nice clientele. What the fook else can ya ask for in an Irish pub??? CHEERS, Y'ALL!!

First time hanging out, had a nice Rueben and a couple of beers. Enjoyed the live music immensely.

We have been going here for awhile and know Courtney, Jess very well. We went this Saturday and there were two new girls. Ok But the service was terrible. The one bartender had her friends there and had no time to wait on other customers. We had to ask constantly for another drink and to see the menu. She never came back to ck on us and we left!! This place is awesome. The dance floor up stairs is the best in Dover.

We stopped in for lunch and sat by the bar. We were never greeted and barely acknowledged. The bar tender never even smiled or made conversation with us......NOTHING! All she did was dust the bar! We ordered an appetizer and she brought it out after our lunch. I will say the food was very good but there is absolutely no atmosphere. Rock music was blaring all the time we were there.We met the owner once at a pub in Haverhill. She has alot of training to do to get close to the quality of Peddlers Daughter! Sorry for this bad review but we drove along way and were very disappointed. 💚

Booked the Chameleon Club for a rehearsal dinner and the process was easy. Dawn was very helpful and accommodating with getting us set up. The food was exceptional and our bartender Jordan was absolutely amazing! She really made the night extra special!

I had a great time there's two floors, so I went with me daughter and her friends so they had a safe ride home.. I could hang in the first floor with older adults so I wasn't the creepy dad, I was the cool dad lol and they were all upstairs dancing and with the younger more active crowd.. I thought it worked out really nice and everyone got home safe

Cost me 20 bucks to get in on St Patrick's Day to buy bland food from a restricted menu from a backed up kitchen , it was fun to watch "security" clean the tables though. They also tossed away a half full pint of Guinness and ended up comping the rest of the drinks for the night because of it.

Met some friends at Cara in Dover for St Patrick's Day. $20 cover charge included nothing except surly doormen and uninterested bartenders. If you don't like that job, you should leave the industry. Thanks for nothing. Won't be back.

My beers were great food excellent I guess the only down fall to it I had to ask for that stuff instead of given a menu or asked for another drink. But that's me just being picky I guess.

Do yourself a favor, go somewhere else, especially if you want fun, good atmosphere, nice staff and good beers. This place has none! To the owner: I was the guy who stood there for 15 minutes trying to pay for one beer while she sat at the bar drinking with her buddy. The Point of Sales went down, she didn't do anything about it until the staff complained, she just sat there drinking then reluctantly went to restart it. When I asked if I could get my card back, I was told I either have to wait or she would write down my card's details. And she never apologized for the inconvenience. Worst customer service ever! A good owner would have made a gesture for the trouble (what's a beer on tap to a bar owner, 30 to 70 cents, a dollar max) and go behind the bar to help her staff. She did none of this! Indeed, I did not tip this one time (I did tip your staff all evening prior to this incident), as waiting 15 minutes for a beer while the pub's owner hold your credit card hostage because of no fault of mine was pretty poor service. There was no one behind the bar most of the night because the owner set up the example that sitting at the bar drinking with customer is ok... It's not! And if I didn't tip, it wasn't because of the evasive staff, it was purely because of the owner's attitude. To finish, this place is defo filthy, lines should be cleaned minimum every 14 days and not every 28 days as this is open door to germs! A simple google search will show the basics and best practices of bar tap lines cleaning and how to ensure your customers safety. This place is a disgrace of an Irish pub, period! And the owner confirmed it.

I've sadly been there twice in two weeks, first time was for an event upstairs and the second because a friend chose it as our meet-up place. Both times were Saturday evenings. Both times were shockingly bad experiences. First time, upstairs was completely packed as booked for a private event I was a part of. Yet there was only one bartender for the upstairs bar and there was a queue of guests waiting on average 20 to 30 minutes to get drinks instead of dancing or enjoying themselves. Very poor service here so most of us went downstairs to get drinks. The downstairs was quite empty for a Saturday evening. Yet it took on average 10 to 15 minutes to get a drink as no bartender was behind the bar. I've never seen a real Irish pub without anyone behind the bar. When a bartender finally showed up, we got drinks and went back upstairs. At some point, the upstairs bartender was very stressed and guests were getting irritated as they couldn't get drinks because their cash register went down. We went downstairs & it was the same situation. We realized the owner had been sitting on the customer side of the bar drinking all evening, not helping out her staff at all, when she dared to leave her sit to reboot the cash register system. All evening, there was one lady swamped behind the bar upstairs, dealing with 100+ customers and getting no help while there was barely any customer downstairs but they had two bartenders walking around and the owner drinking at her own bar. The next week, I went back to meet my friend and I noticed the owner was exactly at the same spot, drinking on the customer side of the bar. There was no one behind the bar and we waited close to ten minutes to get drinks. The owner did not move to serve us. We walked to the back of the place and there were less than ten customers in. After a while, my friend wanted to get another round, we went back to the bar and after waiting more than 5 minutes without anyone daring to pour us drinks, we simply decided to leave and go somewhere else. The owner was sitting there and again she didn't do anything. I wonder how this place can still be in business, the service is appalling and the owner clearly couldn't care less. I certainly will not be back! There are so many better pubs in Dover. Edit to answer the owner's reply: First, it wasn't my event, I was a guest. If it was my event, I would never, ever book anything with you seeing how bad it was (and I didn't even talk about the food that guests like me paid $40+ for that you set as a buffet and people who came "late" literally only had a few potatoes to eat.). This was simply awful. Back to the PoS, it went down upstairs and downstairs. I was upstairs when it happens and your bartender was left alone with no support. I then went downstairs and there was a dude complaining he waited to pay for his beer for 15 min and all you offered him was writing down his credit card details which is ILLEGAL! He left without tipping and you blamed him for it while it was a consequence of your own mistakes and negligence! And the "it was a crazy night excuse" isn't working for the second time I showed up, there was literally no one in your walls, yet the service was as bad and you were still sitting at the bar drinking like a customer. My advice: take ownership of your business and show the example to your staff! Make sure there is ALWAYS someone behind the bar so customers don't wait for 10 minutes for one drink while there's barely any customers inside. Stand behind the bar YOURSELF! At the end, you are the owner, so why are you just sitting there drinking? There is literally no excuse for those two poor experiences, you should really start to question your management methods, I guess it would spread the lights on a few things, the likes of "why is the place empty on a Saturday night when it has all the potential to be packed?" Food for thoughts! Take this as a wake up call.

Found the place by accident, walked in to an almost empty room, almost left... SO GLAD we stayed!! Really nice beer and whiskey selection, the food was fantastic! Cottage pie was amazing, and the haddock nuggets were very good. Will be back sometime for the live music. Great atmosphere in the place too, and the staff was very friendly! Definitely worth a trip!

I cannot say enough about Tom, Dawn and the team at Cara! Sadly I had to help a good friend plan a wake for her husband. I called so many places in town and many said "they needed more notice" than a few days. Sorry folks but you cannot plan for death. I spoke with Tom and he said they do wakes for people often. He understand the last minute nature (literally 2 days notice) and he and Dawn were so kind, thoughtful and accommodating. My friend was so relieved. They were kind enough to work directly with me instead of having to burden her with one more thing during a very difficult time. We had the Chameleon Room all to ourselves and the food and staff was fantastic! I highly recommend the team at Cara + The Chameleon room for any private event. 5 Stars for sure!

The customer service at Cara’s is beyond awesome. I didn’t get his name unfortunately, but I called to see what the wait time was for 4 people and he said “no wait at the moment ma’am”. I showed up 10 minutes later and he said, did you just call? I took the liberty of reserving a both for you! I mean what?!!! I was so stunned at his generosity to do that. And I cannot forget to mention how great the food is and our waitress was so sweet. I have never had anything but a wonderful meal, great atmosphere and such a nice staff. Thanks so much!

It was nice mellow that night which was very nice! Just my wife and I we only had a couple drinks but they wer pretty strong!! So we were not feeling any pain 😂! Ow the sides are really good!

Although there are some nights that are slower, this place is usually packed full of happy patrons! They offer fun amenities like Trivia Tuesday and Music Bingo on Wednesday which I love! The bartenders are amazing and always super fast with service and happy to go above and beyond whenever they get the chance! My go-to bar for Dover for sure!

Friendly, authentic Irish pub. Open very late, which is nice. Food is good, menu is pretty typical but above average quality. The Irish dishes stand out. Try the potato cakes and the bangers and mash. It's worth going for the sausages alone.

We've been lucky enough to experience many pubs throughout Ireland. Cara is a good facsimile of the sort of pub to be found in any small Irish town. It's not perfect, but it's very authentic. The food, in our experience, is good quality pub food. The staff has been very friendly and attentive. The atmosphere and decor are very representative of the "real" thing. We recently attended the weekly Irish Session and found it to be the best we've been to in years.

Cover charge as if your in NYC.. it's dover 20 a head for a bar that's elbow to elbow and you can't get a drink for atleast 10mins is insane I'm sorry..

Cara's Irish pub was a wonderful experience. The nachos were the perfect appetizers. I always judge all of my dining experiences by how they create their chicken tenders and beer battered onion rings, they did not fail ( perfectly battered and tender). Then finished with the wonderful Bailey's chocolate mousse. I highly recommend checking this pub out

They do a good job, and I love that they host live music sessions, including the only open, live Irish music session still going in the Seacoast.

My girlfriend and I have been going here for a long time, always a good place for a drink or some food. Live music and board games too. Chameleon club is right up stairs too. Goooo!

Stopped in for a quick Guinness while in town. I don't get here as much as I'd like to. Cara really is similar to several pubs I went to in Ireland. Great atmosphere, service, food, drink, and 'craic'. Live music, too.

Nice place compared to other local places

I’m amazed this place is still in business. How can a restaurant stay in business when there employees, including the manager are a bunch of bafoons. Food is horrible and employees are worse. . There are many nice restaurants in the area and believe me, this is NOT one of them,. Save your money and go elsewhere. If you want to be treated rudely this is your kind of place...

I wish I had the energy to explain how awful this place is. Trust me, save yourself and go elsewhere. Plenty of restaurants in area that actually care if they cook their food and their customers are happy. Manager is rude, unprofessional, and insulting. Owner needs to clean house if he wants to keep his business.

Decent quality food and good servers

After staying in Dover for 10 months for work, Cara was my watering hole away from home! The staff was extremely friendly and accommodating and made me feel like a regular after only a few visits! Great beers on tap, and their mixology skills were very honed for great mixed drinks. Perfect pub-grub and comfort food out of the kitchen. The local crowd and regulars were very friendly and welcoming; a perfect social atmosphere to grab a few cold ones after work or a good weekend night out; no riff-raff or bar room drama to speak of whatsoever! Will definitely be visiting again anytime I return to the area!

We started with nachos which if the foil liner was sprayed with cooking spray would keep the cheese from sticking to it. One of us had the Bangor Melt which was a delicious traditional Irish dish and the other had corn beef sandwich which was great.

This place is a must go to. When I think of an Irish pub out of my state, I only hope it's a welcoming as this one. Great service and amazing food. I love the little touch of ireland in the food. Thank you to toms mom for having some great recipes.

I always enjoy trivia nite here, but the service is slow as cold molasses!!! 1/2 hr to get nachos??? Really.... but the food is good.... And they used to have beer prices on the menu; not anymore. I was a bit thunderstruck when my 16 oz. draft ( I even forget what it was....) was $8.00.....

A bit overpriced but the drinks and atmosphere are good.

Love it because they have outdoor seating which I'm more comfortable with right now. Drinks were good, appetizers were good & the atmosphere was awesome.

The outdoor seating was lovely, as were the staff! A real effort was made to adhere to social distancing and hygiene standards. Masks and sanitizer were available at the front door. The fare was solid pub food, great quality and obviously home made. No Sysco shiz here! I can recommend the haddock nuggets - love the light panko fry! The fries are hand cut and delicious. Get the home made Thousand Island, it is BOSS. Really great joint in my backyard, and I'm glad we found it! Will definitely be back.

Awesome place. Great drinks, classical rock, etc. Downstairs rap, and rave up stairs. Lots of fun and great security.

The staff is amazed and very tolerant... given who they have to deal with. The past 2 times I've gone they have really handled themselves.

IDK about the food because I never went there for it. The drinks are good though just dont bring any upstairs. They have a nice outside spot where everyone goes to smoke you can drink out there. Ill stop by and try the food before I give it a five.
