My partner and I dined at Charleston for our anniversary. Jocelyn was our server and she was absolutely wonderful. She took time to paint a picture of every dish and explain the menu in depth. The entire staff took such great care of us and made it a night we will remember forever. A truly impressive dining experience.

The glowing reviews about this restaurant don't do it justice. My husband and I celebrated our 10th anniversary here and wanted to go big! The pricing may cause sticker shock for some, but the entire experience was worth every penny. Some reviews complain about the small portions for the price, but I don't know what those people usually eat! I’m a bigger guy, and I left beyond satisfied. We did the 5-course meal with wine pairings, and by the third course (the best octopus I've ever had), I was already feeling full. Everything we tasted exceeded our high expectations. The service and ambiance are next level. We were given the best table in the restaurant and received exceptional attention. Multiple staff members wished us a happy anniversary, which was a great touch. I could write an essay about the rest, but I'll keep it simple: Just go! The restaurant also handled an unusual situation with class. A friend of ours called while we were eating and paid our bill without us knowing. At the end of our meal, we were informed that our friend had taken care of it. The way they handled it was so smooth and caring, truly making the night even more special.

Amazing dinner & wine pairings. Definitely pricey, but worth it! A very elevated dining experience. Only critique is the cheese & bread after dinner. It was offered to us (I guess we should have asked the price) & we had maybe 6 pieces of baguette and small pieces of 3 types of cheese - $30 for the small plate.

This restaurant was an absolute delight to dine at. In a city that really doesn’t have a very good culinary scene this restaurant tops the list and dare I say sets a standard that should be strived for. I can see why they won a James Beard award and have zero clue why this isn’t at least a 1 star or recommended Michelin Restaurant? The menu is so well thought out, the ingredients are fresh. Every dish has the care and prep to it that it deserves. The colors of the food and flavors are vibrant and the staff is in sync like a well conducted orchestra. The views inside are beautiful. Every room has a different theme. Whether you want a comfy couch or a view into the kitchen it is available. I will definitely be back.

Got the lobster soup, shrimp and grits, halibut, beef tenderloin, fried oysters, and finally finished it off with espresso and cheesecake. Would probably not order the oysters again, if I had to let go of one dish. Everything else was top notch. My friend got the chocolate espresso cake and it was better than the cheesecake. They also loved the duck leg and sweetbread. One person also mentioned they loved the octopus. Wine pairings for everyone at the table seemed to work well for the most part. Definitely a suit or sport jacket kind of place.

If you're looking for fine dining, five or six course meals, and a beautiful location off the harbor, then this is the place. What an amazing experience. From the time you arrive, you're treated like royalty. I can't begin to explain the whole menu, but you have many selections like duck, Halibut, lobster soup, lobster ravioli, shrimp and grits, tender sirloin, lamb, fried oysters, etc than you come to the right place. Great selection of wine. The whole Staff is very familiar with the menu. It's just a well-oiled machine that makes your experience special.

Definitely old-school bougie (white table cloths, sommelier with a 50+ page wine list, cheese cart, and 4-6 course tasting menus), but don't get me wrong, I won't turn my nose up at a fancy fine-dining experience. Especially since you often get to taste flavors and try fare that you wouldn't normally be able to find at just any establishment. And for the most part, Charleston didn't disappoint. The scallop course was cooked to perfection, the breaded oysters were amazing - fried on the outside and creamy on the inside - it is RARE to get oysters that perfectly fried. My favorite dish was probably the duck. I am a fan of duck in all its forms... greasy over rice, fried and slathered in a bbq sauce... but this was on the scale of a dish I had in DC, where the duck was so tender it was like eating a seared, well-rested steak. Honest, perfection. I was a little disappointed in the white truffle fettuccini and their desserts. They had no wow factor like the rest of the meal and the pasta dish didn't even have real truffles. At over $200 per person for 5 courses, I would have expected a few shavings on the miniscule portion. But, 6 out of 8 of our party loved that dish, so maybe I am being too picky :) The restaurant itself is intimate and upscale, but still approachable. Most guests were dressed up, so it is definitely FANCY, but there is no specific dress code, or at least not one that is enforced from what I could tell. Our party of 8 was seated back in what I am going to call the wine room, where we were surrounded by dimly lit shelves of wine - it was old world and romantic and we had a delightful time. Their wine list is overwhelming - I am not kidding when I said it was over 50 pages! I asked for a Brunello and the Sommelier told me to turn to page 57... 57!!!! So, if you don't know what you are looking for or what might pair well with your upcoming courses, I would suggest asking for a recommendation. I also think our party-size was a little overwhelming for the staff. I am not sure they are used to serving that many people at once. There were times that the food didn't come out all at once, which is awkward for the pacing when you are eating a coursed meal, and one dessert came out a full 5 minutes after the rest of the table's. I know this is nit-picky, but it's an expensive meal at one of the premier restaurants in Baltimore, I would have just thought it would have been a little better coordinated. But, like I said, we had a big group. A smaller group may not have the same experience. Despite that though, the waiters and staff were friendly and helpful, explaining the dishes and the wine-pairings that came with them. <3 All-in-all, I would recommend. It was a fun experience, very enjoyable meal, made all the better with a group of friends <3

This restaurant does not need my review or anybody else’s because it has already established its great reputation. This was my fourth time visiting Charleston and for sure it won’t be the last. Unquestionably in my mind, and in the mind of the other three guests in my table, this is the best restaurant we have ever patronized, and we all have eaten at many around the globe. It’s not only the quality, variety, preparation and presentation of the food, the great service and the amazing atmosphere but how nicely and comfortable the establishment makes their guests feel. The gastronomic experience is like participating in a pleasant and relaxing symphony of tastes, smells, colors and textures that exult all the senses. Perfection is noted throughout the experience from the moment one hands the car keys for the complimentary valet parking until one gets them back. The most difficult part is choosing the dishes and drinks from extensive options guided by an expert sommelier and well trained servers. Once that is done, everything starts working smoothly with perfect timing and compulsive attention to every detail. Not to be missed!

It's hard to add to the reviews both here on Tripadvisor and on other sites. This is an absolutely superb restaurant, equivalent to many of the best in the country. Staff, food, and ambiance are all outstanding. Their menu differentiates Charleston from most other fine restaurants. One orders by number of courses you want (plus desert) from a list of 20+ offerings, from soups and salads to entrees. All dishes are sized between 'small plates' and normal portions, giving lots of opportunities to try different things without overdoing it. A great approach.

The wine list is one of the most complete anywhere in the US and we enjoyed a fine Chardonnay and Pinot Noir both from California. One of the best restaurant in Baltimore, food is delicious, service is amazing. The menu varies based on the seasons and ingredients available. The way it works, they have 5,6, or 7 courses + dessert menu for a fix price (there is an option to match the dishes with wine it is a bit more expensive) the plates are small but so flavorful, fresh and well presented. The menu is very diverse there are vegetarian options, fish, meat, lamb, pasta, etc. Is it expensive? Yes, compare to the places surrounding. But is totally worth it for a celebration date, birthday, anniversaries there are very few place in Bmore like this, if any.

I recommend 4 courses. My friend and I went with 5 courses and our husbands did 6 and it was far too much food for us. Beautiful view as we were sat looking out on the water. The staff was very friendly and attentive, but we found several of our dishes to be a bit bland. The halibut and tartare felt like they needed more seasoning and the deserts were very dry (we didnt eat them). I also ordered the black truffle risotto. It was good, but not great. The best dishes of the night were the fried oysters, lobster curry bisque, and voulevant pastry. They were exceptional. I sampled many other dishes as our group was happy to share and overall I can say my husband and I were underwhelmed. I also had a little mishap on an expensive bottle of wine that was mistakenly poured into an old glass of wine. I quickly let the staff know it was fine and it honestly saved me from overindulging, but not an ideal experience.

My wife and I enjoyed a lovely dinner at Charleston for our anniversary and cannot wait to go again. Top to bottom, this is an outrageously good restaurant. Just make the reservation -- you won't regret it. The beautifully decorated dining room, comfortable seating, gorgeous tableware, and warm service would be reason enough to go, but the food really is about as good as it gets at this price point. Thoughtfully crafted courses flowed nicely from one to the next and there was clear technical mastery in their preparation. Although we don't drink, there were recommended wine pairings available for each course from an expansive wine menu that would please even the most discerning wine connoisseur. We appreciated the kind considerations made by both our (excellent) server and management for our anniversary. Being younger and perhaps not fitting the superficial characteristics of the typical patron of higher-end cuisine, we never felt anything less than welcomed. Just a great experience all around. We have been lucky enough to dine at numerous Michelin-starred restaurants around the world, and Charleston is every bit as good, if not better, than many of those. It is seriously worth the trip, even if you're coming from DC or Philly (although Baltimore is wonderful in general and you should totally visit).

The Foie Gras was perfectly cooked and amazing. One of the specials was squid ink pasta with crab, and it was great too. We tried the cheese cart, and had some very interesting tastes. The dessert menu was pretty long, and I didn’t have much room left, so I had the sorbet. It was very tasty too. The wait staff is excellent, and the ambiance is beautiful, but not too stuffy. We were excited to celebrate another special occasion at The Charleston. Unfortunately, this experience did not live up to the prior one. Despite arriving exactly at the time of our reservation, the staff was not ready to receive us, and the initial greeting was hurried and abrupt. The hostess gave a quick acknowledgement of our milestone anniversary, and another waiter pointed us to the bar and instructed us to take a seat. It was unclear where we were supposed to sit as there were place settings at all the bar and table seats. We awkwardly took a seat and waited while everyone rushed around. We observed other patrons being provided complementary drinks and snacks while we felt ignored. Eventually we were offered a drink menu. When we were finally seated (after several other parties that arrived after us), we hoped for a fresh start to the evening. Our waiter at first, was engaging and had a great sense of humor, but by the end of the evening as the dining room filled with other patrons, we started to feel as though we were a bother. The rest of the staff was attentive and kind. The first four courses while small in portion, were divine in taste. The main course was disappointing at best. The beef tenderloin was not seasoned, and the accompanying rice was hard and tasteless. My husband felt the chocolate cake also lacked flavor. The apple tart was fine but nothing spectacular. Overall, we do not think that the food, service, and experience warranted the $700 that we paid for it. It was disappointing that unlike our previous experience, our milestone celebration was not acknowledged by the restaurant with a complimentary glass of champagne or even a little decoration on the dessert plate. Needless to say, we will choose another restaurant that makes celebrations truly special next time.

We have dined here for over four years for our anniversary, and the most recent visit on August 29 for our 8th year anniversary it was horrible! Highly disappointed the Charleston didn't deliver as it usually has. This year the portions were smaller, and the food had absolutely no taste whatsoever. They give no special attention to anniversary's. There was a table beside us that arrived about an hour after us that were given all this special attention and dinner lights while they walked past our table and gave us nothing. I could see the chefs cooking from our table and never once saw them tasting anything to make sure it was properly seasoned. Way too expensive of a restaurant for the food to be subpar, truly disappointed. We chose the charleston cause they typically don't let us down but this year was a huge blow. We couldn't get away for our anniversary so at least wanted to enjoy our meal. For 200$ plus I expect better and expect for my food to be properly salted not salty but seasoned to taste. If a person would be upset over a 20$ meal not being as they expected how do you think we feel paying 200 plus?

We did the four coarse menu with wine pairing. They did and outstanding job with the meal and pairings. Also had cheeses from the cart, well worth it.

The restaurants ambiance is absolutely beautiful. My meetup group came here for dinner and everyone enjoyed their meal. Everything we ordered was well seasoned, fresh and tasted delicious. They had the best steak tartare I have ever had. I did feel that our order taker was a little impatient. I felt rushed when trying to decide what I wanted to order. However, the other waiters gave such excellent service we let that slide.

By far the best fine dining in Maryland. I have gone to a ton of Michelin star restaurants and this is up there with almost all of them.

A lovely restaurant with relaxing vibe and excellent food. Hubby made a last minute reservation for Saturday during our getaway at Baltimore Harbor and we had a great time even only sitting at the lounge. The attentive service is top notch, our sever is very informative and gives great suggestions. I was pleasantly surprised that they have quite a long list of choices on the menu to choose from for their 3, 4, 5 or 6 courses dinner. We opted for the Four-courses and hubby chose that night’s special-Squab($25 extra) and it was out of the world! I enjoyed the Pan seared Hudson Valley Foie Gras very much. Wild Burgundy Snails with Creamy Polenta was tasty and appetizing. The White Truffle Fettuccini was really delicious. For dessert we tried Vanilla Creme Brulee & Dark Chocolate Cake, both were good and the chocolate cake wasn’t heavy which we like it very much. They also have an extensive wine list, and suggestion pairing on each dish. An indulging experience and I highly recommended. Charleston is clearly deserving of its 5 diamonds from AAA. The food was excellent, and the service from Jocelyn and the assistant servers was impeccable. The valet service was also great. I chose the 6 course option and enjoyed each course. Sometimes the simplest preparation is the best, as was the case with the watermelon soup amuse bouche and the lump crab gratin. The lobster soup, the steak tartare, the sockeye salmon, the foie gras, the bison tenderloin and the dark chocolate mousse were all great. The pacing of the courses was perfect. I overheard other diners praising dishes that I had not selected, including the oysters and certain pasta dishes. Overall, I had a wonderful evening. It is a shame that I do not live closer to Baltimore.

Charleston is without a doubt one of the greatest restaurants not only in the mid-Atlantic but the US. You are welcomed by a team of the most professional restauranteurs headed by in my most recent visit, Mr. Peter Keck who welcomes you like family. The menu is like no other - a taste for everyone and should you like me find wine a necessity to all courses you are in the midst of greatness with the selections should you choose the very reasonable wine pairing. While I love my home of DC for 40 years, I just cannot find all the attributes that Charleston provides in the luxury and elegance that perfectly fits my taste so those 35 miles north will always be my preferred destination..

Went here for my anniversary and was not disappointed. The service was amazing, the wine was some of the best I ever had, and the food was mind-blowing. You're going to pay more to be here, but I think it's absolutely worth it for those special occasions.

I normally eschew "fine dining" because of many past questionable experiences overflowing with avant-garde practices and hokey gags. I just want delicious food prepared simply and thoughtfully. So I was optimistic when my wife and I chose this for our anniversary dinner. And from start to finish, Charleston delivered superbly. Our server, Bryan, was warm, personable, and knowledgeable, always attentive but never intrusive. Each dish was meticulously crafted to both look and taste incredible, and even when we didn't entirely agree with the flavors, we greatly admired the thought and care that went into the product. Yes, this is an expensive meal, but it's more than a meal; it's an experience, a time to immerse yourself in a chef's world and enjoy every single bite at your leisure. And yet the experience never felt over the top or manufactured; the food is creative without being pretentious, and the atmosphere and staff are designed to put you at ease so that you can enjoy everything on your own time. If that style of "fine dining" sounds appealing to you, then this is a perfect place for that special occasion dinner.

Off the charts!!!!! I can't complain about anything. I've never had a dinner like this. Soup to nuts? No. Mini aromatic hot breads to cheese and port and dessert and coffee. I mean, there's something about the name of this place that doesn't quite capture the seriousness of its exceptional offerings. I'm glad, though. If the world knew, I'd never get in without sitting on a two year waiting list.
