Authentic Indian food. We love this place. Jeetu and Vivek both are amazing. Great service with delicious Indian cuisine.

The waiter’s need more training and should not be listening to the customer’s conversations and when paying the bills we wanted to split the bill but my friend just said once to pay all and then we agreed to split it but the waiter was in such a hurry he just not listen to our request and charged my friend the bill and I was still waiting with my card in my hand to pay my share and then he just walked away :(

This is our favorite Indian restaurant in the Portland area. My wife is Keto-lite. She always gets a salt Lassi. We usually order a plain Dosa (the dipping sauces are lovely) and the butter chicken, and then we pick one other item from the expansive menu. We eat here two or three times a month.

Take out: they left out one item and the 2 containers of raita were frothy and fermented: both were left out too long. The food that was safe to eat was pretty tasty, but nothing like they were several years ago. Overpriced, especially for not handling the food properly and leaving out an item.

The food was flavorful and generously portioned. Lots of choices.

My favorite Indian restaurant in all of Portland! I’ve never had a bad dish there. Absolutely worth the drive out to Hillsboro.

All around a great place if you’re looking for Indian food. The staff was very nice and very attentive. The food deserves 6 stars if that’s an option and remember to get a mango lassi to drink!

My family has LOVED Chennai Masala for years. They catered my sister’s wedding! I’m on here because in the last six months I have noticed a decline in the quality of the dishes and I’m dismayed! It used to taste bright and savory, and now it tastes kind of flat. Recently I had the palak paneer, a family favorite, and it just doesn’t taste as good as it used to, and the pieces of paneer are cut a lot smaller and there were less of them. My hope is that this all award winning, all-star restaurant will go back to being the best Indian place in town! One thing I’ll say, 5 stars for the staff! They are always so friendly and professional. :)

Everything we tried was great! I've been to a lot of Indian restaurants and this one is probably top five! The Medu Vada is great and the sauces that come with it are amazing. We also got the Malai kofta and chicken Makhani which were both awesome, although the Malai kofta sauce was a bit sweet for me. The masala tea is lovely. The naan is amazing!! So soft and buttery and the garlic one has lots of garlic which I love. definitely want to go back and try more dishes. Update: We have been back several times now and I am obsessed with the potato and cheese Dosa! The spiced potatoes and cheese go together so well and it's big enough for my partner and I to share!

Went for dinner on my wife’s birthday. Ordered Masala Dosa, Veg Jalfrezi and Chicken Tikka Combo. Expect Dosa, all other items were bad. It was so bad, that we only ate 25% of the ordered food and didn’t take the parcel of leftover. Ruined the birthday dinner and our mood. Won’t go there in future and won’t recommend to anyone. 1 extra star for Dosa.

We were in portland for two days and based on google reviews we decided to try this place. As most of the reviews suggest, the food is amazing. We tried chicken biriyani and mini idlis. Both the items were superb. This is a must visit place if you are craving some authentic indian food.

We have been associated with Chennai Masala for the past 15 years and when the time came for us to pick a restaurant to cater for our sons' Upanayam we did not even hesitate. Ms.Sumi and her team worked to accomodate our menu requests, deliver and setup the food and worked above and beyond to fill the gaps with our venue management (not providing silverware, serverware, cutlery) in addition to providing an outstanding meal! Ms. Sumi herself supervised all guests were taken care of during the breakfast and lunch events and also ensured any remaining food was packed. It has been 2 years and guests still rave about the food. Lastly the easy way they worked with us during covid left us with very pleasant memories and we truly recommend this establishment for your dining and catering needs.

Chennai Masala was a great dining experience! The food was incredible and their menu has a large selection of options for vegetarians. Highly recommend any of their dosa options. We went as a group of 6 for dinner and the service was quick and excellent!

We had dinner here, and we were absolutely blown away by how AMAZING the food tasted. I am no expert when it comes to Indian food, but my wife and I agree, the Chicken Malai Kabab was the best thing we have EVER had. We could not stop talking about how absolutely delicious it tasted. We also got the butter chicken, and it was delicious as well. Very clean restaurant, extremely fast and wonderful service. I can tell they really take pride in what they do. We are absolutely coming here again.

Absolutely amazing dinner. The whole staff and especially hostess was super friendly and even gave me some suggestions to try just based on the flavors I told her I like (and nailed it, the kabob is probably a new favorite) , and when I asked for my vindaloo to be extra hot, they did not hold back 😁. From my experience its nothing but top quality when it comes to their food. I'm definitely going to be back to try something else. Chicken malay Kabob/ Chicken Vindaloo/ Garlic Naan.

The food is not bad. But service is horrible! They started cleaning up our table while my dad is still eating just because they hit the closing time. We were at the restaurant barely an hour for our whole dinner, among which a big part was waiting for someone to actually come and take our order. If you want to ruin your dinning experience then only go there otherwise stay out of this restaurant. No food is worth of disrespect!

Please go here if you miss the South Indian Rava Dosa. They have got it perfect. The next item is Parotta and Veg Kurma. Great Ambience, friendly host, quick service!!

Delicious as always but unfortunately they don't have lunch buffet anymore and process have gone up. Lunch for 4 with no drinks was $100.

Chennai Masala is fully deserving of all the accolades it has garnered and is fast becoming our favorite Indian restaurant in the Portland area. Delicious food and impeccable service in a beautiful atmosphere. We’ve really loved the vegetable pakoras, paper dosas, Manchurian gobi, and veggie noodles lately. Thanks.

My wife and I had Chennai Masala cater for our wedding weekend, with lunch after our ceremony, appetizers at cocktail hour, and dinner plus dessert at our reception. All of the food was amazing, and our guests absolutely loved it. In the 50-degree cold during our outdoor ceremony, Sumi and her team managed to keep the channa poori and sambar piping hot! Our guests raved about the lamb rogan josh, chicken tikka masala, and malai kofta during our reception dinner, going back for seconds and thirds! But we would be remiss if we stopped there. Sumi is a delight to work with. We taste tested at a few different Indian restaurants for our wedding, and Sumi’s approach to her business and clients, plus the fact that her food tasted the best, quickly won us over. This proved to be the right decision during our wedding on two fronts. First, the food was amazing. But second, and more importantly, Sumi was able to handle some mis-steps on our venue’s part. She stayed through both events and didn’t say anything to us until after the events had completed. An Indian wedding is all about the food, and Sumi ensured that we had the best dishes all served with the best presentation. She’s a great vendor to have on your vendor team!

My partner spent a month in Chennai many years ago. They impressed a rather deep love of Indian food on me, and it has become a bit of a tradition to try as many as we can. Particularly South Indian restaurants, which can often be very hard to find. I'm not even sure I could accurately quantity how many places we have tried over the years. This is probably the best South Indian restaurant I have ever been to inside of the states. So much so, that I am fuming a little bit that it's 3 ½ hrs away from me. The food was amazing, the Dosas were huge and delicious, and the woman whom I can only assume was the owner was incredibly nice. Do yourself a favor and check this place out.

Ordered vegetrian dish and it was really delicious. Owner is super friendly. Service was quick as well. They gave balloons to our kids and made their day. Definitely recommend

I'm not sure why this place is a 4.1 because my experience today was a stright 5.0 across the board. Their appetizers and curry was fresh tasting and great. I have had tons of Indian food across the globe and this is my new place in the Hillboro area. A must try.

Came in for Dosas on Mother’s Day after a morning hike. Fantastic food, fantastic service, and easily the best dosa I’ve found in Portland. After eating dosas regularly as intern in India, and then being spoiled by Vic’s in Berkeley, finding a quality dosa has been a 15 year mission in Portland. Happy to to say mission accomplished!

My husband and I just found this gem of a restaurant within the last month. We’ve been here for lunch and dinners already a few times; it’s so delicious. I am gluten free and they have many options. What we especially like is the friendliness of the staff and the exceptional service. Vivek has been our server a few times (yes, we can’t get enough of the delicious authentic Indian food) and he has been so helpful in making sure I choose gluten free options but what stands out is her dedication to making your dining experience one you won’t forget. Chennai is lucky to have such a great employee who really cares about giving great service.

Took a large party of 7 there a few days ago. No DOUBT the food is great! But they charge an 18% "large party fee" and DID NOT tell us about it before hand. I even called the morning of to tell them we were coming and they said nothing. The beer selection is very limited to Indian beers which are just basic lagers. Our waiter was inattentive and slow. We finished the meal, he didn't check on us. I had to get up and go to the front to ASK for boxes. They were delivered. Then one of us had to get up and go ask for the check. Before we got the check about 3 staff people had to come over and basically clear the table. It was odd. Also note that their to-go containers are plastic resin #6 - very UNRECYCLABLE in our area. Bring your own to-go containers for leftovers.

Food was really good, but the servers were incredibly rude to my mother in law. They repeatedly didn't listen to her order, and talked over her to ask her husband instead.

Called in my order for me and my co-worker. Great suggestions and food was delicious! We savored every moment of our short lunch break! Highly recommend!

We were visiting Portland for work and our friend suggested this restaurant.  Food was wonderful "devamirdham". I will visit this location again and will not miss the food from here.

Excellent options for veg and non veg appetizers had Gobi Manchurian and Chennai chicken 65, chicken tikka, Chicken biryani, good quantity as well. Good ambiance and service. would love to visit again soon.

We ordered ghee dosa, sambar idle and sambar vada. We did not like any of these. Not enough ghee in dosa and masala inside dosa was not good. Idly and were not good either. Sambar was not upto the mark and it was bland. But the chutney was good. Overall we did not like the food and service

I think Chennai Masala will be my new go to spot when I'm craving Indian because it's quite possibly the best I've had in all of Hillsboro. They were packed when I picked up my food (late on a Sunday evening) and despite being super busy, someone brought me my food very quickly. I'd only ordered about 10 minutes prior so I was surprised it was even done so soon. I ordered the chicken 65 and the lamb tikka masala and they were both absolutely delicious. I can be a little fussy about chicken and I've had chicken 65 at other Indian places where the texture kind of grossed me out, but Chennai Masala's was perfect. The lamb tikka masala was incredible and the lamb was cooked perfectly. I wish I'd maybe gotten a little more for how expensive it was, but otherwise it was SO delicious and packed with flavor.

Only real complaint is the price: $96.60 for 3 average sized people (25% tip included), no alcohol drinks. No leftovers to take home. I put a $5 bill on the table to make change for the friend who paid in cash but the waiter scooped it up before the friend returned from the bathroom

It’s a nice place for Indian cuisine in Hillsboro. The staffs are very friendly. The food is good too. I liked their butter chicken with naan. They also have thali option which is interesting.

My husband and I have already frequented this place before and the food was always good. Last night we did a to go/takeaway order for a small birthday celebration of 5 people we were having at our place. The food was excellent - we ordered lamb Rogan josh, shrimp Tikka masala, chettinad shrimp, gobi Manchurian, ghee roast and naan. The dishes all had their own unique flavour and taste - extremely important because some other Indian restaurants tend to have the same gravy despite the dishes being different. The spice level was also fantastic! Portion sizes were excellent. We met the owners and they were very kind and polite. I would definitely frequent again - it's also become my husband's favourite place. Thank you so much for your great food for our impromptu birthday party, we really appreciate it! Food is okay but the service is god awful. Great restaurant if you have humiliation kink for sure. The staff was rude while taking orders and kept telling us what to do after the food was served. When we brought this up to him after we paid he was borderline combative. Make sure to talk to your staff about their attitude before getting worked up and reply to google reviews cause that might be actually helpful.

Some of the best Indian cuisine I’ve ever had in my life. Everything tasted authentic as if it was prepared in Delhi and served to me right here in Hillsboro Oregon. The chicken curry was so great, it transported my wife’s taste buds back to the early 1990s when she had the real deal from a friend who is from India. The service was excellent, everyone was so friendly and polite, and it was just a wonderful experience for my wife and myself. Can’t wait to come back again.

Phenomenally delicious! Everytime I've gone in the last decade they've never faltered in quality, they're always reliably delicious. Personally I prefer going for dinner & ordering vs the lunch buffet (although it's still good, just not quite as good). Our favorites are the Butter Chicken, Mughal Korma, & Lamb Biryani. Always the customer service is outstanding & they're so good with my food allergies, they even offer a. Gf Naan replacement.

Don’t get me wrong, their food tastes amazing BUT the value is not there. $17 for a chicken tikka masala that had 9 tiny pieces of chicken is not worth it. The container is 80% sauce. We had to split the 9 pieces of chicken between 3 people. If we want vegetarian food, we wouldn’t have ordered chicken. So disappointed as this place used to be our go to.

We would give less if possible. What terrible customer service. We called in to get a to-go order for pick up. My husband drove 20 minutes to pick it up. He took it home and I discovered that it was all the wrong food. He called to tell them they gave us the wrong food. They told us to bring the food back and he drove the 20 minutes back to pick up the correct food. When he got there, they told him they had made no mistake and would not replace the food with the correct order (there were four of us: me, my husband and our two sons). This, even though he had brought back the entire order and the ticket attached to the food matched what he had ordered but the food itself was incorrect. So 40 minutes of wasted time, we had to spend time calling our credit card company to report the fraud, then find some other food for dinner for our family at 8:30pm on a Friday night. Never ordering from this place again. Terrible customer service.

Some of the tastiest Indian food we’ve had. Our first time here and the Butter Chicken (Chicken Manchurian) was our favorite. We also had chicken tikka masala and the regular curry. Garlic naan was also delicious and the yogurt lassi.

As you stepmout of the car you are met with anamazing aroma! And it just gets better from there. The staff were attentive without being invasive and the food was to die for. After moving here from Scotland we miss the Indian cuisine which is very prevelant there and this was an amazing find which satisfied our cravings and more. Excellent place, highly recommend

Atmosphere is really great at this place if you’re looking for something that’s trendy. However the food left a lot to be desired. The malai kofta felt like it was one of those store-bought ones that was just microwaved and I know because I eat those two so I know exactly the way the kofta balls are going to be, and it was exactly like that. They had a strawberry lassi that was actually pretty unique and tasty, and they also had a platter, veg sampler, but I think to that didn’t really have too much taste in it. In fact, I didn’t even give any chutney unless we had to ask for it.

Chennai masala once the beacon of great Indian food and service has turned upside down. We went there today and were extremely disappointed by the quality of food. The idlis were cold and undercooked. Not enough salt in the medu vada and too much salt in the coconut chutney. Dosas we served lukewarm too. To top it all off the coffee was unbelievably bad. As someone who has seen this restaurant grow over the last several years, I was extremely disappointed at the state of affairs today. I wish and hope things change for the better soon.

I love Chennai Masala! There are so many great Indian food restaurants around town, but Chennai Masala is one of the best. We've been going there for years and it never disappoints. Delicious and consistent cuisine, clean restaurant, friendly staff. We've used them for catering as well, and their service is professional and top-notch. I highly recommend them.

This is hands down the best Indian restaurant in Portland! You get both north and south Indian food here that is out of this world. The only thing better than the food is the service and the love the leadership serve you with. It's just too delicious!

Tried the non-veg combo at Chennai Masala yesterday, and it was so good. The combo had a perfect mix, I had chicken tikka masala and chicken vindaloo (everyday one curry changes) and the portions were sufficient. The staff were friendly and quick. Definitely, a spot for those craving authentic South Indian goodness!

Had a ghee masala roast dosa ans it was so crispy and tasty. The sambar and chutneys tasted yummy. Service was good. Owner was friendly.Tried their Idli vada combo too and it was very good. Go to place for south Indian menu

We ate second time. This time experience was good . Food was tasty and came on time . Dosa and eggplant dish were good. Looking reviews from other and my past experience, it looks like service quality is driven by type of dish - some diah take more time and time of order ( busy hrs trend to go slow for service).
