COBO is by far one of the best restaurants in the area. We've had sushi all around the world and this exceeds expectations. Great service by Daniel, Hailey & Jamie and expert sushi-making skills by Joseph, Mike & Zac. We love this place!

Daniel our waiter was a young man who knew the menu "inside and out" , had a sense of humor and aimed to please. While he made our night, it would of been washed away if the sushi , duck and desert was not fabulous. We were celebrating a birthday and I asked Daniel to ask the chef to create a special roll for the table to share and the only regret was we didn't order two. Lastly the scallop mushroom 🍄 and squid 🐙 dish was out of this world.

This is one of our favorite places for a special meal in Boone. They do a great job with gluten sensitive orders.

We have eaten here numerous times over the years and it is consistently excellent. Some of our family has actually lived in Japan and raves about the sushi. Staff is friendly. Food is reasonably priced. Service is excellent. Best sushi in the high country for sure.

I’ve been going to Cobo for a while and have recommended it to many of my friends. I like their sushi, but this time, the food didn’t taste the same. I don’t know if there was a change in ingredient quality or a change to how the sushi was but to me it was very bland and didn’t give me the experience I usually have. Hopefully they change something about it to help make there sushi. The service was great though and the atmosphere was above expectations as always.

Cobo was one of the best sushi restaurants we ever visited. The inside decor is really cool and we are glad that our B&B recommended it! Definitely add to your list when visiting Boone. I wish we could open one in Florida:)

This is a great, local, Boone restaurant. I have visited 3-4 times with the latest time in January 2024. Staff is great and sushi wonderful. Hard to get a table lately, although it seems you can pull up to the bar and be served. What I’m saying is get a reservation if you want to eat here. Highly recommended.

We booked reservations for 30 for a wedding welcome dinner and they had us set up perfectly in the back of the restaurant. The service was amazing! They made sure we had everything we needed! The food was delicious as it always is! We ordered cocktails, many apps (all delicious), sushi, entrees and dessert! All were so good!!! Can’t wait to visit again! Thanks COBO for a great start to the wedding weekend!

Cobo is far from the ocean and operated by people that are generalists - not sushi specialists. If you in the mood for close-to-fresh sushi / Japanese style food, go to Cobo.

Who would have thought a bunch of white guys in the mountains of NC would make some of the best sushi I’ve had? The Japan Poppers are the best version of a Jalapeño popper. Top notch place.

Living in Weston FL and South FL on and off since 1982 we love Sushi 🍣 and this restaurant is by far one of the best we have ever experienced. Great price and value.

I had trouble last 3 times I tried to go there.there wont be a 4th attempt. 1st time they literally gave our reservation away.turned out it was friends of fellow employees. They don't open til 4. Lazy owners. That's all that is. Called for reservation at 4:01 last time. I was standing there watching them answer to see how they operated ( they didn't know that) I asked for a table for 5. They said no. Need to have six..lol so ridiculous. So they didn't want to accommodate hoping for a full table. Very stupid,they would of made more in the long run catering to my family. I always tip well. I always come back if treated correctly. The portions are small for the money because they have no real competition in that town. The list goes on. The only reason this place gets any good reviews because there's no competition in town. But that might change now. I might open a sushi place just to smack them around a bit.

Please ignore the stars because I’m basing that part of my review on past visits. Sushi is great given the area and how far from fresh seafood they are. Tried to get a table on line, nothing available. Tried to call the restaurant to see about wait times and got about 6 seconds of an automated message before a young woman in a monotone voice says only “Hold please” before clicking over and leaving me on hold. And on hold I stayed for 18 minutes before someone picked up and promptly hung up on me. We enjoyed dinner at another restaurant. They make great sushi but getting a table here is less than ideal. Yeah it ‘s graduation week, but we called at 5:40 pm…and graduation happens every year! be prepared for it!

Wouldn't really think of sushi in the mountains. But this place was great! Sushi definitely tasted very fresh and we got great service from our waitress. The only thing I can say wasn't that great was the wait time on our food to come out. Other than that I would definitely recommend if you're in the Boone, NC area and want sushi.

This place is such a vibe. It feels like you’re in New York City rather than Boone. Sushi is always delicious (even when I get it to-go!). Cocktails are consistently on point.

The food here was pretty good, and my partner and I would be interested in coming here for dine in next time. The bar staff were also very friendly and helpful, and we appreciated their service. With this being said, I probably would not recommend getting a to go order. We waited almost an hour at the restaurant for our order of just two rolls to be ready, and then were not warned about how they were set up in the to go box. The box was pretty large, so by the time we got home, the sushi was all scrambled together. One roll was vegetarian and one was not, so it was disappointing to see that efforts were not made to separate the rolls.

I love CoBo. The sushi there is always amazing. Great tasting and fresh. Great place for dates for sure!!! The cheesecake are always sold out so he sure to let your waiter know you want one to be held for you. Definitely go out here!

Ask for Jada!!!! Jada was the best server I’ve ever had! The most attentive and kind. She took care of me and my date so well. I’d include her in on my world takeover. Tell her I said hi!

Fantastic spot, great food for great prices, and very luxurious atmosphere for the area

Sat nite. Had reservations. Still had to wait 20+ minutes for our table. Then another 10 before we met our waitress. Ordered - 40min later finally got appetizers. 30min wait for drink refills from the bar. Over an hour wait for entrees - one was tepid, cold, another wasnt even the correct dish. It was refused. Promised a speedy re-cook by our waitress for the screwed up entree - that never happened. Last corrected entree arrived 30min later after all other members of our party had long finished our meals & plates had been cleared from the table. We refused the entree & refused to pay for it. Waitress stuck it in a to-go container & gave it to us anyway. Our experience tonite mirrors our last 2 meals at CoBo. Service is consistently horrible. Just the worst. Kitchen & sushi staff aren't capable. Used to be great. Grasping for mediocrity now.

We discovered CoBo Sushi Bistro & Bar through its glowing online reviews. Upon arrival, we noticed a parking lot across the street, as well as convenient street parking options. Despite our prompt arrival for dinner, the restaurant was already bustling, and we secured seats at the bar. The service was both cordial and efficient. The culinary experience exceeded our expectations. The dishes were remarkably flavorful and fresh. Noteworthy highlights included the succulent duck leg, the delightful chirashi, and the expertly grilled hamachikama (yellowtail collar). However, the Korean taco fell short due to overly sour kimchi and chewy, lackluster meat. Overall, our visit left a positive impression, and we eagerly anticipate returning to explore more of their enticing menu offerings in the future.

We travel up to Boone for Cobo anytime we crave sushi. We have never had a bad experience. The food is always great and the service is amazing. We honestly can't say enough about how much we love this place. (2024 update: Cobo is still worth the drive to Boone.)

We had an exceptional dining experience at this restaurant. The freshness of the ingredients truly stood out, making each dish incredibly delicious. If it weren't for time constraints and limited appetite, I would have loved to savor every single dish on the menu. I highly recommend this place to all out-of-town visitors coming to Sugar Mountain for skiing. It's the perfect spot to indulge in a satisfying meal after a day on the slopes. A culinary delight that shouldn't be missed!

Are there on 12/16 so they are certainly not closed. Very nice venue. This place is more of a Japanese restaurant that has sushi, opposed to a sushi restaurant. For example they don’t offer the large sushi or sashimi platter, no combos, etc. they won’t sell you 3 scallop hand rolls, it’s only combinations of 2. Food was very good, you gotta try their Korean pork belly tacos.

Outstanding service and food. We were also lucky and got a piece of Tyler’s cheesecake it was a sweet potato cheesecake and oh my how delicious 🤤. Staff was very friendly and helpful. Sushi rolls were amazing we got the Appalachian, Philly and a white dragon. We also had an order of Rangoon’s. Everything was amazing and such great quality. My boyfriend and I come here a lot. Now the service is always bad but the sushi is great( usually). Today, not only did we have to wait 30 minutes for some water that was given to is by the hostess instead of our waitress but the food we ordered took forever to come and when it did, we were given the wrong sushi. The sushi that we actually ordered ended up tasting as if it were left out for a day. I am very disappointed and shocked that a restaurant can allow such service.

This place is top tier. Beautiful restaurant tucked away in downtown Boone. My favorite was the Appalachian roll, but everything was so good. It is a little bit pricey, but the food is worth it. Do get a reservation though, especially for weekends, since they get busy. Will definitely come back again!

We have always enjoyed CoBo’s Restaurant until last night. We made a reservation for 2 at 6:30. Went happily to restaurant to enjoy some sushi. The receptionist told us that they had no reservation for us even though we got confirmation from Open Table. We were told there was a 55 minute wait time to be seated. We were not happy, there was no manager on sight to talk to and receptionist was well it is what it is! Won’t be going back there even though we are locals. Very dissatisfied customers! Went to Vidalia’s and had a superb meal there and were very welcomed!

Located on the backside off the main street running though town...Parking is tough here, no lie, however that being said you will not be disappointed in this creative cuisine and inviting atmosphere. Totally, a date worthy place and secret local spot. Sushi was prepared well, no worries of unclean fish. Creative and tasteful cocktails. Knowledgeable server. Quaint fun waiting area that begs you to have a drink while you wait. Credit cards accepted.

We were a party of 5 ladies enjoying a girls night out. We were greeted graciously and seated timely. Our server Grace was wonderful - Super sweet and attentive. The drinks were excellent and the food was outstanding - 5 STARS!!!! Thinking about what I will get next time! EXCELLENT service and food!! HIGHLY RECOMMEND!!!

We like going to CoBos for sushi and sashimi. For breaking the cardinal rule( NEVER eat seafood inland ), this place is pretty good. We're fortunate to have a place this good to go when we crave the wasabi.

Cobo is a new find for me; I visit the Boone area a few times a year and had not been here before. Our date night here was absolutely fantastic. I have celiac disease, so I'm always very careful at a new restaurant. Our server was very aware and knowledgeable and assured me they could modify most sushi dishes to a gluten-free configuration. I ordered the Sundown Express (with GF modifications) and it was fabulous! I was so eager to taste it that I forgot to take a photo, sorry.

Of the handful of places in Boone area offering sushi, CoBo is hands down the best: nicely presented, great service, and some creative rolls (Red Dragon & White Dragon highly recommended). The space has a nice metro vibe. Reservations required, but the bar is comfy w/ first-come seating. (My sushi-loving daughter said CoBo compares favourably with some of her Toronto sushi hangouts.). Just tried Sundown Express (new photo), really nice, but White Dragon still my fav. Wife enjoyed the teriyaki tempeh.

Overall this is a great spot. We were traveling from Minnesota and we are sushi loves. We wanted to see if there is a difference between sushi in NC and MN. The food was similar to what we are accustomed to eating, just more expensive and with poor service. This restaurant gets such great reviews so I was excited to visit however was disappointed. We arrived at 3:50 p.m. not realizing that they did not open until 4. The door was unlocked and so we went in. We were "greeted" by someone who coldly told us that they were not yet open. We almost left and maybe should have but wanted to give it a try. Once seated we were able to pull up the menu on our phones (bring your phone as regular menus are not provided or offered). I ordered the Thai coconut soup and rainbow roll and my son ordered the sashimi combo and spicy tuna rolls. The soup was fabulous and the sashimi was fresh and generous as far as portions go. The rolls themselves were just ok and overpriced. We definitely eat better sushi in Minnesota at much better prices. While I was willing to pay more for less quality simply for the experience while traveling, the service is what really dropped my rating. Because we visited right when they opened it was not that busy which was great. There were several staff just standing around and talking amongst themselves in front of customers while treating customers as if they were an interruption to their college fraternity activities. This place has the atmosphere and food to be as upscale as they advertise, however their service is weighing them down. I would not visit again without seeing a drastic change in customer service.

The food was fresh and delicious, with many options to choose from. I enjoyed the Kalifornia and Philly rolls and my husband had the pork belly tacos, which were cooked to perfection and had a nice balance of sweet and spicy. The portions were generous and the prices were reasonable. The staff was attentive and courteous while the service was fast and efficient. We were very satisfied and would come back again!

The food was outstanding and the service was excellent. I had miso soup it was very tasty. My husband had crab stuffed rangoons they were great. We both had squid salad which was new for us but did not disappoint. Then we had a lobsters bliss the best sushi ever. We finished the evening with a deep fried chocolate chip cookie and vanilla bean ice cream. This meal was so good I recommend you try this place you will not be disappointed.

If you love sushi, you need to go to CoBo! The price for a specialty roll is around 15 $; not cheap, but they use quality ingredients. Their seasonal drinks are great, too. This is, by far, my favorite sushi restaurant

Watched them making their food on a TikTok live video.. don't recommend to anyone. Trust me, after watching what they do in the kitchen... you'll never want to eat there. Unless you want to get sick. Best sushi in Boone! Tons of chef speciality rolls to choose from as well as the classics. Top notch bar as well that serves a variety of regionally inspired cocktails. Please note that to get a table, a reservation is required.

Amazing food. Here’s a hint. Like tuna Tataki, like seaweed salad? Order the Tuan tataki and get them both for the price of one! We were so hungry we didn’t take picks, but everything was delicious. Our waitress was very sweet and prompt. One thing I loved was our food came out as it was made, this may seem odd. I’d rather my partner get her food when it hit the window than have it die waiting for mine. It was all super fresh and delicious. It got packed, but we got there early and we’re seated quickly. If you want great and unusual sushi, I’d definitely recommend!

My favorite sushi place in the area! The staff are always friendly and helpful. The sushi is delicious. The atmosphere is fun. Only downside is having to wait for bar seating or make a reservation at least a week in advance to get a table.

We have been coming to this restaurant for over a year and we have never been disappointed. The food is delicious, the staff are friendly and efficient, and we love the vibe.

We came here for a small family dinner. Everyone in our family loves sushi and we have tried numerous places over the years. The food here was great, with lots of choices beyond traditional sushi. Our server was also very attentive and everything was delivered to the table together, which is not always the case with some sushi restaurants. We enjoyed the evening and I would definitely recommend a visit if you are in the area. It was quite crowded and a little hard to navigate around the tables but that's a sign of a great restaurant. I would make reservations if you can.

1. Got to make a reservation. We tried to go to COBO a year ago on a weekend ski trip but it was too busy, this time we made a reservation and came in right on time and they had our table ready. Alex introduced himself as our server and quickly got our drinks and apps. Alex was absolutley fantastic as a server, knowledgeable of the menu with great recommendations. Our friend who came with us went to APP State and has COBO as his favorite sushi in NC and Alex did not let us down as they shared stories of their love of COBO and the history they have with it. Highly recommend COBO and if you can ask for Alex as your server.

Delicious in some ways, but a bit overly reliant on sauces of which there was an exorbitant amount used at times. The sushi, which the place is know for, was the absolute star. The duck was also very tasty. Worth a visit for the sushi alone, the rest was not as good as I expected.

Cobo refuses to skimp when it comes to fish, I’ve never been disappointed size or amount of protein in anything I’ve ordered. If you’re in Boone and looking for sushi this is the place. It’s always fresh, it’s always delicious, and the place itself is a whole vibe. PS get the cookie for dessert (it’s going to sound strange, just trust me on this one).

Went by for dinner on a Wednesday evening. Thankfully we had reservations or we wouldn’t have been seated. We had a party of four and our server was great. We went with the Japan Poppers to start and they were amazing. We ordered Korean Tacos for our main course and for sushi we chose three rolls: Going Green, Red Dragon and New Yorker. All were good except the New Yorker. Just not our style. Very nice interior and lively atmosphere. Definitely recommend.

Honestly, best sushi I’ve ever had

This place had a great aesthetic and atmosphere. My wife and I had the Squid salad, the rangoons, and the Appalachian, shrimp temura, and White Dragon rolls and they were all amazing!

We have had a number of birthdays, group dinners and dates at Cobo. The team we have experienced here has been welcoming and knowledgeable about the menu. There’s a number of servers who have been there since they opened. We hope to land in their section when we go, mainly just to experience their passion for Cobo. They have a unique and inviting menu from their appetizers , sushi, and entrees. All ages and tastes should be able to find something here. I do not work there and have never worked for them. This is an honest, nonbiased review. I hope you experience the same quality and passion we have.

Service so bad no attention to the costumers

This place is the best. We have been coming here for years and the food is outstanding. The quality of the sashimi is superb. We always get the calamari and dumplings as well and they are divine. Rolls, seaweed salad, poke, coconut soup, crab cake… all outstanding. GRACE has been our server several times and she is fantastic. Attentive, kind, always remembers us. Don’t forget to make a reservation, they are always jammed. Enjoy!
