Like being enveloped in love. Sure the food is affordable and excellent. Especially the mole. But what sets Cocina Mamá Cholita apart is the extraordinary service. It's like visiting the home of the perfect imaginary grandmother you never had. Everything here is simple but just right. Like with family, if anything is askew, just check in with Mamá. Show up with love and curiosity and you will be made to feel like everything in life is going to be ok.

Delicious mole enchiladas! Love the mango habanero sauce with the free chips. Great ingredients and just feels like you're eating at a family's house. The mom is so nice and greets us every time. Super clean as well. Definitely a repeat place.

A true hidden gem in San Francisco. Thought we would try a new place for dinner, and found one of the most authentic Mexican restaurants in the Bay Area. From the housemade Mole to the flavorful salsa's and the delicate flan, not one note was missed. Freshly made chips are served as you are seated with three delicious salsa options. All three are great, but the blended Mango Habanero Salsa is both spicy and flavorful. We tried the Steak and Cheese empanadas which were tender with just the right cook on the dough. The Sopes were spot on, we tried Steak and Chorizo which really hit the spot. But the best part of the meal was the Enchiladas Divorciadas which came with one green and one mole enchilada. We also added a full Chile Relleno to the dish, which was complimented with refried beans and rice, which were not heavy or overflavored and complimented the whole dish very well. I can't believe I ate the entirety of this enormous dish, but the flavor was just so wonderful... I almost wanted to lick the plate. We finished off by trying the Chorizos and the Flan. The Flan was creamy and delicious. Even the housemade Horchata and Jamaica were stand up drinks that were refreshing compliments to the delicious meal. If you are looking for fantastic, and authentic Mexican cuisine, you cannot go wrong with this place. We will be back again, and again, and again I am certain.

The mole here is incredible. I had the mole enchiladas with chicken and it blew my mind. The sopes and burrito were also really tasty. They gave us a free horchata flan because they were trying out a new recipe — it was delicious and thick. It’s a quiet, very clean, and super homey relaxed atmosphere. Definitely not a hole in a wall place, it feels very nicely put together and the owners care a lot about their food. The servers were super nice and helpful. Small family owned restaurant with great food that they put a lot of love into.

For my money, this is the best mole I've had! I had the mole enchiladas with chicken. Definitely a go to spot for me. They also had an AMAZING Cucumber Lime Chia drink. Super refreshing and you know, chia! Service was quick and attentive. Can't wait for my next visit.

One of our favorite Mexican restaurants. Mamá Cholita never lets us down. The mango habanero salsa is so good we ask them to put it in bottles for us to take home. The soles, mole and plates are all exceptional. Located in a quieter part of the Mission closer to Noe Valley, it’s a great getaway. The family makes you feel like you’re dining in their living room. I’ve eaten at nearly every Mexican restaurant in San Francisco and Oakland, I think their mole and birria are among the top.

Love this place! Food is phenomenal and the service is great. The owner who is the Mamacitaaa running the place is also a gem. Felt like family even the cooking. I love the enchiladas divorciada -the chille relleno enchiladas are amazing. Also my favorite chorizo breakfast burrito-it’s naughty!! Had bacon with it lol brother in law had veggie empanadas, also very good. Sister had burrito bowl-she loved it and partner has tacos. Overall a very tasty menu and haven’t had one item yet we weren’t happy with. Also their Chia seed drink is so refreshing as well as their horchata. Just go! lol

Fantastic food. Everything I ordered was on point. Try the mole!

The food was delicious and the price was reasonable. I had 2 steak empanadas 🥟with a tasty sauce and some side lettuce. They were filling and satisfying. I also had an over easy egg added to the plate. The dessert was Flan. It was thick, the carmel syrup was sweet perfect! I ate it slow sipping a cup of good black coffee. I met the Owner Delfina Villegas, who cooks the food and makes that thick savory delicous Flan. The servicer, is a friend of the Villegas family and was helping out that day . He's a nice young man, who's polite with good customer service! He made me feel welcomed with that great I gotcha smile. The place wasn't too busy, there were some pick ups and some take outs. Plus the background music was good for a lunch-time kinda day.

Came here for a quick lunch, had the mole enchiladas and my friend had the mole plate. Needless to say we were both very satisfied when we were all done. No desert needed. The flavors were amazing and the portion sizes were even better. I highly recommend it if you're in the bernal heights area.

Went here after seeing video recommendation online. Got the quesabirria tacos and my girlfriend got the birria burrito. Some of the best Mexican food we have had. Very very scrumptious. We also got the flan for dessert and it was incredible. I haven’t had a ton of flan in my life, but that was hands down the best flan ever. It was very hard to find parking near by though.

Place itself is a little noise and it's not very charming. However the food is great quality for the price. As a taqueria you simply can't fault it.

Glad I came across this place on Instagram- I had a really good experience here. The complimentary nachos were warm and super crunchy, the salsas delicious. The Quesabirria is so, so good and it’s a generous serving for $16. Jose and his family are super nice. Be sure to put this spot on your „Want to go“ list!

No frills, real deal. This family owned spot serves love in their dishes like the Mole Enchiladas, Quesabirria tacos, and Sopes. The horchata was pretty good blend of Mexican and Salvadorian flavors. Also, family was super welcoming! Highly recommend

What an experience. The food is absolutely spectacular. Feel like this place should be busy every night but we were lucky to go when it was quiet. They were so attentive and let their creativity shine. And our pint of mango habanero made it safely back to London. Cannot wait until our next visit! An absolute gem. The food here was incredible. Best Mexican food I’ve had outside of LA. We had the mole, enchiladas and quesabirria all were 15/10. Recommend the cucumber chia drink as well which was very refreshing. My favorite however was the habanero mango salsa which was not only flavorful but had a solid kick to it… i actually paid for an entire container of it to bring home! Will absolutely be back. Support this business people! Service was warm and friendly.

We had dinner at Cocina Mama Cholita last night and the food was incredible! It’s been hard to find good enchiladas in SF (with so much focus on burritos & tacos) – Cocina Mama Cholita’s are top notch. When it’s your first time, they let you sample a couple of different options: the mole sauce, green enchiladas, and birria. All three tasted delicious – the enchilada sauces had such complex flavors and the birria was rich and seasoned perfectly, probably the best I've had in SF. The restaurant is also family run, and they’re the kindest people – which just added to the experience. We had a wonderful night out and I think we’ve found our spot to regularly frequent for delicious Mexican food.

Was a bit early to pickup 12 tamales and the gave me their tomatillo green sauce and some of their mango-habanero sauce to try with some chips. She also gave me some hot drink made with corn and cinnamon. It was sooo wonderful. The sauces were fresh, homemade and so taste. My family dug into the tamales right away when I got home and they were up there with the best tamales I’ve ever had , no exaggeration.

We had the birria tacos, mole enchiladas, with horchata and a cucumber agua fresca. They even gave us complimentary beef and cheese empanadas for Father's Day. All were delicious. Will definitely be back soon!

The food was delicious. Their mole is the best I've had in the states. They were also so hospitable, giving us a few samples and checking in on us. It's a family business and I met the grandmother, son, and nephew. Not to be missed.

Just came in for a simple chorizo and egg burrito and I was blown away. To start the mango habenero salsa that comes with chips is amazing. Then the burrito comes out weighing at least 2 pounds and loaded with chorizo, bacon, egg, and hashbrowns. On top of that they asked if it was my first time and offered me samples of 3 other dishes. Everyone in the restaurant checked on me and said good morning. This place is my new spot for sure

Jose and his team catered a fabulous lunch for our daughter’s baby shower, held at Bare Bottle brewery (fab venue) in Bernal Heights. Everyone raved about the food - we had delicious green chile enchiladas, chorizo nachos, the mole chicken (soooo good), the best refried beans in the Mission, and yummy home made tortillas for our taco fixings. They took great care of us!

I really dig this place. They're first time restauranteurs making some family recipes. The mole was spot on. We also got the birria burrito, which was tender and delicious. Service is great, super welcoming. The place is super clean and they had a tv playing MLB playoffs. I will definitely be back and it's a welcomed addition to the neighborhood.

Just wonderful food with the best flavors. Our new go-to family Mexican place. Amazing flavors, super clean, great service. I usually hate habanero but their homemade habanero dipping sauce is sublime - every one of their sauces were homemade, authentic, complex, subtle. Portion sizes are not just right: satisfying, not too big or heavy or greasy. Jose really knows his food. I’m excited to try the whole menu. You can order tamales with a days notice - delicious! - good for parties. Family friendly. Good menu options for eating with children.

Mama Cholita's Kitchen is my favorite Mexican restaurant in all of SF, bar none. And that's saying a lot, considering the number of Mexican restaurants in this city. The food is delicious and sophisticated. You can clearly see the love that went into each dish and recipe. My favorites are the super nachos and chicken wrap (very light yet filling). The owners are incredibly friendly and welcome feedback. There's a secret too. It's not on the menu, but they will make tamales to go. It's a once a week thing and you'll have to order about a dozen at a time. Great for a dinner party in the backyard. If you haven't tried Mama Cholita's Kitchen, I recommend you check them out!

Absolutely delicious food, great for vegetarians! We really enjoyed the super quesadilla and sopes with chile rellenos, and we appreciated our host’s hospitality in talking to us and giving us samples of their refreshing drinks and amazing fresh salsas. Highly recommend, and we’ll definitely be back!

Excellent restaurant, made me feel like back in Mexico. The flavors and the dishes are so tasty! The mango-habanero salsa is delicious!! The enchiladas are amazing! I couldn’t stop eating! And the chorizo sopes are so good! The service is remarkable even offering the delicious desserts like the custard! You need to try it! Definitely coming back when I stay in SF area. Just went here for the first time! Jose was super friendly, welcoming, and attentive, giving the place a feel of a new establishment committed to creating a good experience. I got the veggie breakfast burrito, in which they eggs and hash browns had the perfect texture and there was a nice mix of flavors. I hope they do well!

I’m so happy we came here! This was all of our first time, my dad is a very picky eater and he loved his shrimp plate so much he even told the staff that. The service was very impressive and attentive and the food was great. They gave all of us plates of samples of the food too. Very lovely restaurant I definitely recommend

I spoke with Jose to help me cater a party of 25. We needed a blend of vegan options as well as regular meat items for tacos. Everything was great. The green vegan rice was a hit, and the meat was perfectly cooked and seasoned. I will recommend this place to everyone I know, and hope that they continue to thrive in the community.
