Great atmosphere and service. The coffee was amazing! The egg sandwich for the price was way too small, including the bread. Blueberry muffins were okay but there weren’t many blueberries. I’d return for the coffee.

Do not go here. Extremely rude person that could not care less just blew us off when we questioned why they were closed when Google clearly said it was open.

Well hello there, perfect cortado! I'm not afraid to admit I'm quite the coffee snob, and the cortado here was no less than perfection. I also had a strawberry muffin (they were of course out of blueberry muffin which seems to be the theme throughout Maine), which was also delicious.

Formerly known as Mothers, the new owners have continued the tradition of providing excellent food and added to it very good coffee. It's a great spot to go to fuel up before a rigorous hike, or post adventure lunch. The outdoor casual seating is ample, however get there early or call ahead! It is a locals favorite and it does get very busy.

Cute little outdoor spot to grab a sandwich or coffee before a hike. It's a bit pricey but pretty busy each time we stopped. Everything is outdoors. Depending on when you go, you may catch the farmers market next door.

My review is not for the coffee or the food, but for the experience we had there. This morning, we ordered some items and waited in their backyard, sitting on the bench. When our order was ready, I went to grab it and left my phone on the bench, thinking I would come back quickly. They messed up the order, so I went to the car to wait instead of sitting outside because it was hot, and I forgot my phone on the bench. While this was happening, there were only two customers outside, both appearing to be tourists, and a coffee shop worker who was watering the plants. We left, and then five minutes later, I realized I had left my phone on the bench. We went back, so it was literally ten minutes after we left that I returned. We looked around and couldn’t find the phone. Then we asked the employees, and nobody had seen it. They were pretty helpful and asked everyone for us, expect the one outside watering the plants. He didn’t even ask what we were looking for. We looked a little bit more but couldn’t find it, so we assumed someone took it and left. We got in the car, and I logged into my MacBook to see where my phone was. "Find My iPhone" showed me a real-time view map indicating the phone was still at the shop, so we went back again. We can see the phone was moving around at the shop indicating that someone was moving or carrying the phone. The second time, the guy who was working outside came and asked what we were looking for, and I said, “My phone is here, I am sure because I can see it on the satellite view. I might need to call the police.” After this conversation, he went inside quickly, and while I was talking to the other employees about the issue, someone brought my phone and said that it was in the kitchen. So, I am not sure who did what and what happened there, but someone was definitely trying to do with my phone until I got serious enough to mention the police. I want to make sure people are careful there.

Amazing coffee! Highly recommended - Also, if you are staying in bar harbor & have time and truly enjoy coffee, the 10ish minute drive is definitely worth it!

fast, friendly service!! loved the dirty chai almond milk latte. not too sweet and spiced strongly. hot black coffee was delish as well. would return for sure.

Stopped for a cortado and a mocha. If you stay and tell them you can have real cups instead of paper. Both drinks were very nice. Very polite and pleasant workers. We sat and enjoyed.

What a great place to start the day! This is a gem of a morning spot. Rode my Surly Straggler down the highways and byways to get there. Ordered a Maple Oat Latte, Breakfast Sandwich, and an Avocado Toast. It all came out delicious!! Seriously best vacation breakfast. It is a must go if you enjoy tea and/or coffee. Staff was pleasant and made the whole experience. I love a good atmosphere and the outdoor dining and shade was perfect. Really couldn’t ask for more in a morning spot on a ride. Thank you for making my day start right.

Awesome roadside stand. We went out of our way to get to them, and the cortado was perfect. Sat outside and enjoyed the morning sun. Kids playing. Dogs with their owners. Very warm, welcoming place!

Their Autumn spice latte was really awesome. The perfect balance of spices, sweetness and coffee. For brunch we had their Mother Bahn sandwich with tofu and the sauce was really flavorful and yum. Recommended!

Decided to stop here while staying in the area. Definitely an excellent decision! Staff was friendly, helpful and remembered my order on the second day. I got a couple hot and an iced almond milk latte with vanilla along with an egg, cheese and sausage roll, and a blueberry muffin. The lattes were superb and the food fresh and tasty. Excellent choice. I will return should I be in the area again.

Just stopped by for a morning coffee and freshly baked muffin. About a 1/2 walk from the KOA so just enough steps to cover the muffin! There’s a very friendly atmosphere here and it’s spotless. Oh the coffee is great too!

The Maple Oat Nitro and sourdough egg sandwich with cheddar and bacon were amazing. Blueberry muffin was good. I love trying coffee shops, and you just really can’t get much better than this! Great location as well. Outdoor area is cute!

My husband and I had the best oat coffee/latte and breakfast sandwich ever! Outdoor seatings. Our kids also had fun playing here. Glad we chose to go here and explored the Southwest Harbor during our Bar Harbor trip. Highly recommended for anyone who is going to visit the Bar Harbor lighthouse to stop by here for breakfast or lunch!

Such a quaint and beautiful little spot. Mable Oat Latte was better than anywhere I've had had on our trip. The egg sandwich was delicious and so fresh.

Coffee was good. The only issue was the service. 3 other people that ordered lattes, (same as me), after me did got their drink before I did. Finally asked and they brought mine out.

Very consistent and very good. We had many, many maple oat lattes. Breakfast sandwich was great. They are able to be mindful of allergies.

The mocha was good, but it didn't blow my mind. Pretty standard in my opinion. The apple pie muffin was pretty tasty with the pie filling on the inside.

The place is closed, like almost everything here, which reeks of trust fund. Says "9a -2:30" on the wall right next to the easily attached(on a whim) "Closed" sign. It is 10:30a now...don't waste your time. Try the far less pretentious and open for business, Sugar Bakery (Trenton) just down the road... The Sugar Bakery espresso is one of the best I have ever tasted.

We stopped here for coffee drinks on one our fist days in the area and ended going back two more times because we liked it so well. Drinks were excellent, baked goods and breakfast were fresh and delicious. Would highly recommend!

All around A+! The food was delicious and paired well with our maple oat latte. Ingredients of our sandwiches were fresh, the folks were very friendly, and we also got some coffee beans from them called Blind Tiger. We wanted to pick up food and coffee before we left Bar Harbor, and lucky, we caught them on their second day of opening for the season! There’s easy gravel parking in the back/side of the shack and plenty of picnic tables and benches for you to sit on.

During our third time visiting Acadia, we finally found a great coffee spot. This place definitely has the best coffee on MDI (and probably beyond). Pleasantly surprisingly had the best scone of my life here too (choco raspberry. woah. who bakes the goodies? They’re very special.) We came here 3x during our week long visit and prob woulda came another time or two after a long day hike but they close on the early side. The employees are all super friendly too ☺️ 🙏☕️

We had oat lattes yesterday with sugar free vanilla syrup..yum. Today was Oat Maple lattes..yum again. Not sure what tomorrow will bring..although it will involve one of the various vegetarian and vegan sandwich options! Can't wait. I already tried breakfast sandwiches of local farm fresh eggs (ONLY time I eat eggs..never factory farmed), advocado, sprouts on a yummy rye. We leave Friday and will be missing food, lattes and service (so sweet) until we come back next year.

Awesome coffee! Great people! Cool and convenient location! We got a maple oat latte and a dirty turmeric latte. Both were exceptional. The friendliness of the staff made our morning. They have delicious food - including gluten free and vegan options.

Stop. It’s there on the corner. You will queue but THIS IS REAL. The drip is legit. Dr Horrible: “A lot of guys ignore the drip, and that’s about standards.” I’m paraphrasing of course. As a result, the iced caramel latte was perfectly balanced. Might be a coincidence but I think not. So take a minute, there’s seating and ample room for warrior pose 2. People ordered food and they were already outta stuff at 8:18. Um yes.

Coffee was great....line and wait time was crazy long...just for one hot and one iced coffee...wished I could have stayed for the food, as it looked good!

Best coffee in Bar Harbor, PLUS a nice selection of pastries, oats and such. A barista in the know, and oat milk for my hot chai latte! I’m looking forward to a sandwich from here, as staff is top notch.

Excellent! We got a mocha and oat milk maple latte (both hot!) and they were wonderful. The food also looked good although we only had a cookie. Lots of space to enjoy your drink in the lawn.

Great vibes, best coffee I’ve had so far on the island! If you’re an oat milk person, the vanilla oat nitro is amazing (and the alternative to the Starbucks cold foam you’ve been waiting for)

This is by far the best coffee place on the island. They're very vegan friendly--and friendly in general!--and their coffee is just amazingly good.

We tried 6 different drinks over the course of 3 days, and all were incredible! Insanely better than chain coffee, and all the drinks were crafted so deliciously. Mother's Kitchen had great food, too! I'd recommend to any visiting MDI for super memorable coffee (the best in Maine!!) and for the amazing staff!

Best coffee in town. We mostly got lattes and were delicious. Only negative is they are closed on Monday’s and Tuesday's.

Best coffee shop in town. By far.

Definitely the best coffee in Bar Harbor, in my opinion - if they had a shop in Boston I’d be there every day!! The counter staff were friendly and made delicious drinks, and they have an expansive menu with tons of options. Get the mint mojito cold brew - it’s the only place on the East Coast that I’ve found this drink, and they use tons of fresh mint!! My brother had the almond milk dirty chai and loved that too. I’m not sure why this place has so few reviews, but it’s a must-stop. Highly, highly recommend!!!!!

Great ambience. I loved the aesthetic of the seating area. Plenty of space for being tucked away conveniently in historic downtown. Staff was so friendly and the coffee was magical 👏 10/10 thanks guys!

While they don't roast the beans themselves they prepare the coffees better than most cafes or roasters I've been to. Top quality and care, reasonable pricing, and great service both to customers and the community.

Coffee matter is attached to Thrive Kitchen, serving fantastic Maine coffee. They have hot and cold brew; nitro drinks; pour overs; French press; espresso and espresso drinks; Bullet coffees; hot chocolates; and hot and cold teas including chai, and matcha. The service was very accommodating and they have milk alternatives to select from. They recommended a pour over based on my likes, and it did not disappoint. You can also buy whole bean coffee here. For take out coffee they have Greenware containers which is plastic made from plants. For dining in they serve hot coffee in beautiful clay mugs. I can’t wait to come back here!

We enjoyed stopping in at Coffee Matter twice on our trip. We love visiting coffee shops around the world on our travels. Of the shops we stopped at on Mount Desert Island, Coffee Matter was our favorite. This is a fairly new shop, based on the chats I had with the owner, and they are already putting out some of the best coffee in Bar Harbor. They have some creative offerings like the Maple Oat Cold Brew, to some high quality pour over options. We had two of the roasts provided by Tamdem Coffee out of Portland, ME in a pour over as well as some of their creative drinks and everything was very well done. The woman (I believe the owner) was checking in to make sure we enjoyed the drinks and enjoyed our visit. I also was watching while she was training a new barista on one of our drinks, and there was a lot of emphasis on details and technique. They care a lot about the quality of the drinks here. We look forward to stopping in again when we return to Acadia, and we don’t hesitate to recommend this shop.
