Great food and VERY nice staff. Great choices!!

went in on a rainy weekday for a quick lunch sandwich. Overwhelmed with all of the options, in a good way. Ended up getting a fantastic blackened salmon sub. The owner is wicked talkative and nice. Food is amazing.

Best sandwich in town! My favorite is the Classic, but you can't go wrong with any of their food. Also, the chili they have in the winter months is the best!

Absolutely amazing sandwiches, haven’t been disappointed yet. If I lived closer I’d be here at least once a week. Edit: they hired a high school or college student to make the sandwiches that absolutely drowned it in mustard. I was dreaming about that Cuban for months and literally within less than five minutes of it being handed to me it was soggy and dripping out mustard. Not really an ideal sandwich

Had a shrimp po boy for a late lunch today. It was absolutely phenomenal! The shrimp was warm, lightly breaded and cooked to perfection, the baguette was crunchy on the outside and soft on the inside, and the veggies and dressing were fresh and yummy! Fantastic!!

What an amazing place! Both the owners were working and were extremely nice. The food was amazing. I heard about this place from every local I was working with. One of the most recommended places I've ever been to!

Do not sleep on this place. I had a pate sandwich that I cannot stop thinking about. We also shared a more traditional Italian that was equally as good. We got Bolognese and fresh pasta for dinner along with mini beef Wellington, all made in house and ready to bring home, which were also amazing. I've been looking for a decent sandwich in Vermont and this far exceeds decent.

Incredible meal and friendly staff. We ordered sandwiches for a family of 5 and everything came out hot and ready in about 15 minutes. We got the fish and chips, baby Bella and roasted pepper sandwich, Pate on baguette, and pulled pork. Sorry that I didn’t take pictures because everything looked and tasted incredible. We will definitely be going back!

It's an old cliche to say a place of a hidden gem, so let's call Costello's a tucked away treat totally worth your time. Middlebury lacks choices for good takeout food, but that's not a huge deal, cause you'll just go here time and time again. Best seafood in town, great sandwich selection, and meal options worthy of high end restaurants. And if you're feeling adventurous, use ingredients from the freezer case or deli to make your own.

Loved the Soprano sandwich. The prosciutto and fresh mozzarella are a great combo. Bread was nice and fresh too. Looking forward to trying the cannolis and gelato.

Nice little gourmet Italian seafood and sandwich shop! I got a Scallop Po Boy, no onion, sauce on the side. It was by no means a po boy, but for sure a delicious fried scallop sub. The bread was soft and a little dense, but a lovely sub roll. Fresh chopped romaine lettuce and ripe tomatoes. The scallops had a crunchy panko breading and the scallops were perfectly cooked - tender and sweet. The 'remoulade' was lacking the grain mustard, but it had a nice raw garlic spiciness that wasn't overwhelming and a little oregano flavor. They also have a nice selection of seafood, salads, dinners, and products for sale. If it gets busy/there's a long wait, just go check out the bookstore next door and you'll be smitten.

We got some Meatball subs to go and a few other foods for later. The "Classic Sicilian" is delicious!!! The bread is nice and soft, and the meatballs are full of flavor. 😋

Food is always fantastic! My only complaint is that it is so popular sometimes the lines are long if you show up without ordering in advance. Pro tip! Order ahead of time so that you don’t have to wait!

This place makes incredible sandwiches and cannoli. No seating, though, so make sure the weather is nice for a picnic by the falls.

Middlebury's best kept secret FOR SURE. EVERYTHING is fresh. Generous portions, EXCELLENT FOOD (best in town like I said) and Owner Operated. The owners are friendly, and clearly VERY passionate about the food they cook. I cannot say enough good things about this place. Go...you WON'T be disappointed.

Very fresh and wonderful ingredients in their to-go offerings. Their ginger carrot soup was amazing, as was their Sicilian salad. Very friendly owners made the cold windy day much warmer.

Quaint little shop. I believe run by husband and wife. Every order was given 1st rate importance. I think I was #4 on the list so while waiting had a nice conversation with Mrs. They have a nice selection of cold cuts and fish.

Yummy "proper" subs. Lot's of meat and cheese. Husband had the calamari dinner. Crispy, light, not greasy or doughy. Took some deli to go, olives, vinegary marinated mushrooms and marinated gigante beans that were creamy with a pleasant tang. If ever in the area again, I will make it a point to stop by. Loved it.

On July 29, 2021, my family picked up 8 steamed lobsters and 24 (we received 18) oysters. The bill........ 848.00. You decide what's reasonable and fair. We thought that it must be a mistake! Owners said "no mistake". We are finished with that local business. Buyer beware.

This place has more authentic Italian cold cuts (prosciutto, salame, coppa, bresaola) and other Italian specialty goods than you'll find elsewhere in the state. And especially good quality.

We typically enjoying stopping in for lunch but will not be patronizing this market again. Nine months into this pandemic, I would think that people who prepare and serve food should be wearing a mask. Nope, not at Costello’s. Everyone employee was maskless. I am really disappointed and won’t be returning. No it’s it is!

Excellent Deli/Market. It has a refined and genuine old-fashioned vibe. Product selection is generous and all the meat and fish is fresh. Very likeable staff and definitely a go to place for high quality yummy stuff. Prices are up there but as the saying goes: You get what you pay for. Only the best.

This is a fabulous market, complete with a huge array of ready-made foods, fresh seafoods (a huge cut above supermarket options), salads and sandwiches made to order, and an amazing take-out menu of full on dinners. Our favorites are the Eggplant Parmesan (incredible sauce and crusty coating on the eggplant slices) that comes with pasta, and also the Chicken Cacciatore (chunky chicken, fresh tomato sauce and a few kalamata olives for extra flavor). Also wine, cheeses, specialty Italian items like olive oil, crackers, and that hard-to-find 00 Flour....the list goes on and on! Check out their complete website. And Caroline is so friendly all these years that I've been shopping here (I'm a local and frequent customer). Great music playing and outside picnic tables for outdoor dining when weather appropriate. So stop in for sure, and you'll be certain to be pleased with whatever you select. So nice to bring home a delicious ready-made meal for dinner after a long day!

This is the most authentic Italian cuisine in Middlebury, excluding pizzerias. The food is passionately made, full of flavor, without too much oil or salt. Try their stuffed peppers, olives, or their chicken parm and meatball sandwiches!

Visited this market while in Middlebury for a wedding. Ordered the fish & chips, a turkey sub, and a locally bottled orange soda and it was excellent.

Great place for sandwiches, specialty Italian food items, or to special order your favorite cut of fish- caught in the morning, delivered same day. No wonder they are still around after all these years.

Consistently delicious food. I loved Costello's when I was studying at Middlebury and their quality of food has only gotten better upon returning. This is where you get the best sandwich in Middlebury.

The hidden gem of Middlebury's food offerings. Without a doubt the best sandwiches in town, as great for reasonably-priced large-group catering as well [lasagna, risotto and sandwich platters all excellent]. The fresh fish offerings are the best in town, and the specialty grocery products are all great.

The best food in Middlebury in my opinion

It's no wonder folks flock to this special deli. Everything is top quality and bursting with flavor. For a summer treat on a hot day, try the to die for Gazpacho. Delicious!

I was very excited to try an alternative to meat, since all of the other subs I've had at Costellos are absolutely The "Baby bella & Roasted pepper sub which is oven baked with fresh basil aioli, and accompanied by Vermont goat cheese & arugula 7.95 8.95", is indeed fresh I will give it agree. I found the basil aioli overpowered the delicate flavor of the Baby Bella. There seemed to be a strong flavor of lemon which I believe was too bright for a Baby Bellas. There was so much aioli that I could not taste the bitter/pepperness the arugula has to offer. What you will taste is the strong flavor of goat cheese, red peppers, lots of bread (the bread/fillings definitely off-way too little filling for the amount of bread), and most importantly a bright overwhelming flavor. If that's what you are looking for, then enjoy. Otherwise I highly recommend you order one of the other subs on their menu, you can't go wrong!

We go to Costello's on a fairly frequent basis. They have a great selection of take-out Italian and seafood. Plus they have the best selection of fish and seafood in Middlebury. Their dark chocolate chili won the first annual Middlebury Chilifest and if it is on the menu, buy it!

The food here is amazing! It's an Italian delicatessen in the middle of a small town in Vermont! The food is fresh and prepared daily. I would order from here every day if I lived nearby!

Middlebury has one "must have" foodie experience, and this is it. Costellos Market is a counter service seafood and italian ingredients food market which includes a gourmet soup and sandwich menu, a deli style display cooler full of Italian cuisine prepared dishes, and a full size chalkboard menu of off-the-boat seafood; everything from PEI mussels to swordfish. Some people may feel CM's prices are high, and they would be right. If you prefer dollar meats there's a Subway and a McDonalds in town, and you'll get... dollar meats. Costellos offers only the finest ingredients in all their handmade ready-to-eat items. If you value what you pay for, there's no better sandwich shop in all of New England (confirmed by Yankee Magazine) than Costello's Market.

Great Italian style sandwiches, amazing soups, fresh baked bread, tasty salads with the freshest of ingredients, a selection of hot platters (think fried belly clams, fried calmari and oysters in season - and a fresh fish case for take home cooking that is wonderful. I particularly like the Tutto Italiano, very close to a real Italian hoagi Philadelphia style. There's also an excellent, albeit small selection of Italian products from anchovies packed in olive oil to pasta for you to grab for home. No place to sit and eat but if the weather is nice, especially in the spring through early fall, grab a spot out front at the picnic table and sit family style with visitors and Middlebury residents enjoying a bit of Italy.

We always stop to pick up a sub when we're hungry for lunch in Middlebury. Subs on homemade rolls and great quality meats. Great salad options and good service too.

This delicatessen is an amazing find in the Vermont country side. The food that they offer is amazing.. such a wide variety of fresh to prepared in house. The salads are the freshest, and don't be afraid to ask for a sample to help you make up your mind. The couple that own it are so very friendly and pleasant, and are not afraid to have a meaningful conversation while you wait. Please try them.. you won't be let down

This deli serves excellent sandwiches and a stunning amount of meals including fish and chips and lamb shank The only drawback to this establishment in that it is takeout only. They also have a fish market and grocery store.
