We are a large family, originally from Jamaica now living in NY, who travel extensively nationally and internationally. Although migrants, we cook authentic Jamaican meals at home. We know good food. Pros: We had a friendly server with a good memory (she did not write our orders). Good drinks Cons: Very loud music The food was NOT made by a Jamaican and was BLAND. Our "jerk chicken" tasted more like an unpalatable baked chicken. Our 15 year old commented, "nothing is seasoned". I'm concerned that non-Jamaicans trying the food here will think it's authentic to the taste of Jamaica. IT IS NOT. A couple of us needed Tums after the visit. If not for this, I would have tried again. Should we be in the area again, I will not.

This is my second time trying this place. About 6 years ago i tried their jerk chicken platter and the gave me a boneless chicken breast not even cut up. Looked like it was boiled. Yesterday i tried their ox tails because someone told me to give them another try. As a native of Philadelphia my standards are always going to be set high. The food here compared to Philly is just horrible. The oxtails although they give you a good amount, lacked seasoning. They used Lima beans instead of the red beans you typically are used to. The menu on their website is wrong. The pricing is higher. When i looked online they showed 2 prices for the oxtails as a small and large option. She corrected me when i asked for a large and stated they only gave 1 size. The pricing was $2 more online. I also tried the Jamaican beef patties and that was my first time ever eating one. Honestly it was amazing. I have no complaints about that and was tempting to drive back to get more. I’m not sure who is cooking the oxtails but i highly recommend taking a trip to Philly and there’s a few places you can learn from. Little delicious, Sundays best and top taste. There is nothing wrong with learning from others in the business. I hope to visit in the near future if the food has gotten better.

The Jerk Chicken platter is top notch along with the Ox tail best traditional Jamaican food I've eaten in years.

Customer service sucks.. you can’t even call the store. They act like your calling them to beg food.. Mayne Dish & Grapes Is better than D&H overpriced for no reason

They don’t be honest about there hours they don’t stay open till there actual time it be saying they open till 12 but they lock the doors at 10pm but the website says 12 smh yall gotta update yall stuff false advertisement.. an that all ima say

I went there today with my wife, and it was the best Jamaican food I've ever had. I've eaten from many Jamaican restaurants including restaurants in Jamaica and the food here was fresh and flavorful. The service was also phenomenal.

The curry chicken only have a lot of ginger the meat wasn't season at all,please put seasoning on the meat, the rice and peas need thyme,coconut milk real ones, scallion,all spices.

This is the worst excuse for Jamaican food I have EVER experienced! They are serving baked chicken and calling it jerk. It is bland and watery. It doesn't even qualify as good baked chicken! The cabbage is literally boiled cabbage. I just donated $18 dollars because this in inedible and will be going in the trash. Then to add insult to injury the staff is snappy and unaccommodating. It's not even Jamaican people running the place. I tried it because a lot of other places were closed and the reviews "appeared" to be good but really all of the honest reviews are just buried. Please save your money and your sanity and go elsewhere!

Came to get lunch and wasn't served because we had a happy meal for a toddler. Lost two customers to save loss from bringing outside food. Smart business.

D&H is not the same, I ordered the small jerked chicken platter, rice peas and cabbage. The gravy was watery. Really no flavor just hot/peppery. And only 2 small pieces of chicken were included for $17. Idk why the change and decline but I hope they fix it!

Food was disgusting bland food no seasoning cold service pour they’re just on their phone. It is playing out nasty. If you choose to eat from there save your money prices overrated $22 a platter for some bland food you got to be crazy.

The service is great but the food does not taste authentic to me. They are also rather pricey.

They need help!!! They need more bartenders and servers. The servers can’t cater to the guest correctly because they have no staff to help. This is not a bare tender issue this is a management issue!! The jerk chicken is flavored but no spice. The fish and chips has an extensive amount of bones. They need management to grab the reins of this place immediately it is drastically down hill. You can tell the bartenders aren’t making money because they aren’t pleasant in their greetings.

BBQ jerk wings are absolute fire- can't really speak on anything else cuz that's all I get, all I need

What a jerk chicken!! Smokey tender marinated fall off the bone and hot and spicy !!!.....this is how it was in Jamaica the time I went to Jamaica this is how it tasted...! Great job 👍 with the jerk sauce!

Please start securing your items for delivery services. I ordered my to be delivered only to see that it’s not “Secured” by staples tapes etc. How do I know the delivery guy isn’t some sick individual and put something in my food ? You’ve been in business a long time and I know you can find better more secure food containers like the plastic ones the Asian restaurants and others use and secure with labeled tape. This is unacceptable on all levels. The bag wasn’t even double or triple knotted etc. If you must use the foam containers at least get some brown paper bags with your Signature Label on them and staple the bags secure.

I’ve been away from Delaware for 8 years. When I was there this was my to go spot for Jamaican food. When visiting home I brought my friend with me and told them about this spot and she’d love the food. One of my friends that still lives there told us not to go because it’s not the same. Needless to say, I surprised and embarrassed. I’am extremely disappointed with this restaurant. This is my last time. The food is gross, the bathrooms are dirty and the atmosphere is terrible. I made my final decision and I will never recommend anyone that comes to town to visit there nor will ever be back.

Hands down the best chicken I've ever had which seems wild to say on a google review. The meat is just seasoned to the point where you can't stop eating it. Get the jerk chicken. Beef patty is cool but not the main event

I don't know how this place have 4 stars ...If it was possible to give it 0 star I would. I thought I had bad Jamaican food before ,well the worst that I had before that compare to this place , this place made what I thought was worse looks good .... Didn't taste like Jamaican food at all and didn't taste fresh at all....taste like the food was cooked a weeks ago. My girlfriend ate 3% of her food and threw the rest away. I ate 7% and didn't even want to give the rest to the dogs and just threw them in the trash ... Not just the food was bad,but the customer service was a 1/10.... AVOID THIS PLACE CAUSE I'M SYRE ANY OTHER JAMAICAN PLACE IS BETTER ....NO WAY IT CAN GET WORSE THEN THIS.

The amount of money you pay I expected so much more it was the amount of food and the presentation. A teaspoonful of cabbage. Way too much gravy. and oxtail lacking meat. I was sooo disappointed.

UPDATE: 10/06/2023 - Added some more photographs from our visit last Friday. This place rocks and their jerk sauce is awesome. I've got three "other" bottles of jerk sauce in the refrigerator at home and none of them compare to this. It's not sweet, and just the right amount of spice. One of my favorites is the jerk pork side dish along with one or two of the beef patties. And it's always better when our favorite staff member, Jeannie, is the one bringing it to us. She does an awesome job! UPDATE 06/30/2023 - Google asked me to update this review. No changes. Went there tonight with my son. Same great food and service. Reasonable prices. UPDATE 04/22/2023 - Google asked me to update this review. Not a lot to update. The place still rocks, the lady taking care of us already knew our orders, etc. I can't imagine going anywhere else for Jamaican. UPDATE: 02/11/2023 - Google asked me to update this. Still decent food and service. It's a nice, laid back atmosphere. I had several "meat patties" this evening with a couple rum and Cokes. I like them (the meat patties )because for me at least, they're low volume in terms of how much weight I put on with eating them. My son got the jerk wings with rice. Great food and service and we were served reasonably fast.

First impressions of a restaurant is a lasting one. I walked in the restaurant with a family member. We stood at the bar and no acknowledgement from bar tender. We walked over to the take out section and that is when she rudely took my order. I asked what came with the dinner and I guess that was the problem her tone and attitude was unappreciated. So I reciprocated the same energy she was giving. That is when she changed her demeanor. I would not go to this restaurant again. Very disappointing for a 1st visit. She need to enroll back into Hospitality Classes and the company need to give customer service refresher course.

Just amazing, both times the food was great, closest authentic Jamaican food I’ve had since actually being there, brought back great memories through their food. Recommend 12/10

Went there yesterday with my brother, they only had one waitress and one bartender. Long wait time to put order in, have had carribean food other places this here was too spicy. Usually they give you a choice of mild or spicy but this place did not. Might try again

Oxtail where nice and tender and very delicious

Jennie was the best sever that ever waited on us at D&h her customer service was A1.. she held it down . She was answering the phones and take out and was waiting on us all at the same time . Made sure we were good plus everything else she had going on. Definitely will be returning.

These people don't have a clue what Jamaican food should taste like. Give up the restaurant to someone who actually can cook real authentic Jamaican food...

I guess you get the ppl drunk and then they won’t be able to tell how bad the food is. How could this place even rep Jamaica……

My 1st time visiting today the 20th of May I brought my wife and her niece and it was absolutely fantastic. The portions are tremendous the food is delicious to the point where we made sure to take some food home. You will definitely enjoy it the atmosphere is very nice they have a good sized bar. Just relax and don't be thinking that you need to get your service immediately. Relax like Jamaicans do., but when They get to you it will be worth your weight. I will definitely be back with more friends

The jerk chicken is the test of a Jamaican restaurant and it is amazingly delicious. Great happy hour if you arrive before 7pm. The oxtail is also pretty amazing when they have any left

Good atmosphere but bland Jamican food. Whitewashed food, lacked flavor and substance. If u ok with bland microwave food then this is for u. Even the drinks tasted suspect.

One of my very dear friends lives in Delaware, so every once in a while me and my other dear friends go visit him. 2 of my friends had eaten here before and they said they spent all day in the restaurant till closing, they weren't kidding. We didn't close the place but we spent a couple of hours there talking joking and commiserating. We stood there so long we had 2 waitresses per shift, And they were both excellent host. The food was good, plentiful and Reasonably priced. Nobody rushed us, Nobody gave us the bums rush. I had never spent hours in an establishment.. It was a great experience😁👍🏿

Wow the love is gone. I remember when this was the best tasting Jamaican food I could think of. I literally just drove from Princess Anne Maryland just to get a plate. That's 2hr 30min one way. The portions are so small now and it tastes so bland. I'm literally in shock 💔

I have been eating Jamaican food for over 20 years. From NY, to South Carolina to Miami. Oxtails are my favorite and this place has the best hands down..

It's an ambient atmosphere and friendly.

The reception girl for the food was unbelievably rude.. I used to frequent at this place a few years ago. And it was never this bad but this time around..I was more embarrassed for my guest as we drove all the way from south jersey to come try the food.. needless to say I will never again step foot in this establishment

Been coming for past 16yrs food is very good. Ox tails have been a little tough lately cook them a little slower so they be more tender.

First off this was my first time visiting dont bother going on a sunday the wings were good only because of the buffalo sauce on in which is not your average buffalo sauce food is over priced $9 for rice cabbage and a d& g soda the cashier didnt ring up the wings i had to go back in and pay another $9 rice had no flavor taste like yesterday's rice you already know i wont be comming back this could never be a jamaican restaurant its a bar with bar food

My friends and I got a lot of food (Oxtail, Curried Goat, Jerk Wings, Pepper Steak, cabbage & carrots, collard greens, and Mac & cheese) from here and we each tried everything. This place rules. Go hungry and try everything.

I Ordered their brown stew chicken platter and let me tell you it had no taste whatsoever. It’s like you’re eating nothing..literally. Never going back again! Whoever is cooking back there doesn’t know HOW TO COOK.

Never again. They messed up the order then corrected it with mediocrity. This is my first time ordering D&H. For one they got my order wrong. I ordered oxtails, rice and plantains, they gave me jerk chicken and rice. Sent my boyfriend back to get my corrected order. They had the nerve to give him attitude because they inconvenienced us…They only gave me 1 large oxtail and two small ones and 2 plantains. I told them to put a lot of sauce on the rice…no sauce on the rice. Told them NO cabbage, still added cabbage under the rice. Not satisfied. My boyfriend and his father said that the customer service was very poor and they were rushing their customers at 5pm…. Can’t say I’ll visit them again. I will be driving all the way to Philly for good Jamaican food now. Can’t do it.

Haven’t been to D & H in about a year and I see the reason calling for the Sunday special to place and order for pick phone rings like 3 times and voicemail pick up. I try to send a message on Facebook and it doesn’t go through at all to ask if they have there Sunday and if they are open I call before I drive a distance it’s unprofessional when your trying to call and they don’t seem to have there connection right. I went elsewhere for food can’t be bothered with a somewhat of a Jamaican restaurant.

Food is amazing. Staff that do the take out have a bit of an attitude and do not answer the phone all the time to place your order ahead which is annoying. Mediocre on the cleanliness of the establishment

Stopped in craving Jamaican food. The atmosphere was nice, it's connected to a bar. There was music playing and drinks being served. I ordered ahead, so we didn't need seats. But our order was ready when we got there. Everything was delicious. Well worth the money! Not too expensive either.
