Amazing food and atmosphere. Amazingly Authentic. Fresh ingredients, Amazing flavor in every dish. This will definitely be one of our regular "Go-To" restaurants.

The food was so good! We had the Sultan Kabob Feast, the Tajine, and the iced tea. Yum! The servers were so friendly and happy to answer our questions. If you’re wondering - they can do everything except couscous, pita and desserts gluten free. The saffron rice is WAY better than the couscous anyway. They had veggies instead of pita to go with the hummus that needed to be gluten free. The only downside was on this hot, humid day, they either weren’t running the AC very much or it wasn’t reaching our side of the restaurant. Otherwise, it was AMAZING.

The food was amazing! Everyone was kind. The entertainment was exciting and just all around a good time. Our server Adil was incredible! This is a place you MUST come to! You do not want to skip this place. We all became family by the end of the night!

The owner and his staff were all very friendly. Took the time to answer our questions. Chatted with us like we were family. The food was absolutely delicious and their baklava was amazing. It's a little spendy but so worth it. Was a little spendy but well worth it. You won't be disappointed. Just be aware that they don't deliver.

Take out food was disappointing, knowing how reputed this place was. Hummus and Bakola were flavorless and monotone. I'll end up trying a couple of other dishes to verify if this was a one off.

Wonderful restaurant with delightful food. Service was quick and so polite! We cleaned all of the plates we ordered, the food was so good. My only criticism is that it was deathly quiet in the restaurant; they could really benefit from some nice ambient music. I will be back for sure!

TL;DR: Owner is a petty manchild with a temper. Food is mediocre and overpriced. Maybe visit if you want to practice your self-defense skills? Full story: The owner, Mohamed, got visibly upset when we initially wanted to order 2 entrees and 1 appetizer for 3 people. When told there was a $5 share fee, we changed to 3 entrees with no complaints. Side note on the food: the tajine was ok, but the rest were overly salty and not particularly flavorful, as well as overpriced. The presentation is pretty decent which probably explains the positive reviews. We weren't very hungry, and given it was a 5pm weekday dinner and the restaurant was almost completely empty at the time, I think most people would find this okay - but buddy, tell us if it's not and we can change our order! Use your words, you literally have one other customer to serve!!! When he served us, I received a plate of pita (in a closed tajine - imagine the pettiness) instead of my entree as a "joke" - which clearly he found hilarious, because his face was dead serious when he did it. Anyone who was there could tell he was angry, not joking, and trying to mock us for "not ordering enough food." When politely asked to apologize he repeatedly, angrily refused. Later, when we were done eating, I again asked for an apology (not so politely this time) and he started yelling, getting up close and personal, and aggressively refusing to admit wrongdoing. After some choice words on my part he got right up in my face and started saying he would "beat me up" (actual quote). Typical bully behavior. To my credit, my butt stayed in my seat until we got up to leave and I never threatened the overgrown baby - just kept asking for an apology! Anyway, the guy has serious attitude issues, and I'm not sure what happened to the supposed good service and friendly demeanor the other reviews talk about, because he acted sour from minute 1. Maybe it's because it was a particularly hot day (by the way, the guy is literally too cheap to set the thermostat below 85 on a 100 degree day), or maybe he's just a racist piece of garbage? Regardless, this is a beyond unacceptable way to treat people just for trying to have a lighter meal than what this absolute clown finds acceptable. 2 entrees and 1 app here is easily enough food for 3 people, and we were happy to change our order if asked. Unfortunately, I'm not sure that level of intelligent conversation is possible for this one. Avoid! Edit: to the reviewer below who assumed I was overreacting after having played absolutely no part in the interaction between me and the owner - yes, he reacted with such "professionalism and grace" that he refused to apologize, walked up to my face, and threatened to beat me up. Disagree with me, sure, but acting like the owner was professional has to be the real joke here 😂. Mohamed literally could have defused the situation with two words - "I'm sorry." I will give credit to Moustafa (sp?) - he was professional, the older guy wasn't. I did not direct any anger at Moustafa. In your review you clearly don't even know what I was reacting to, so how do you know I overreacted? And why do you not think the owner overreacted when he was the one threatening me and not vice versa? And finally, why do people comment on things they clearly have no context for? Do you really think I go around getting upset at random restauranteurs? Truly, some of life's greatest mysteries...

Always a good meal is the Mediterranean salad w/chicken kabobs. Very tasty. Last 2 times I picked up different meals. Not good. I threw away the couscous. It was cool, dry and crumbly and had again, no taste. There were veggies spread atop the dry couscous but no garlic, no onions, no spices. Humus has no flavor either- Sabra hummus is a 10 compared to this. Lentil soup very unappetizing. to look at and again no flavor. The cold pickled veggies are good. I don't think the cooks know about the type of food they are making. I lived in a Mediterranean area on the gulf and that food was unbelievably good. I'm always surprised by the high ratings that are given at mediocre restaurants in Oregon.

Terrible experience! I have never received such a rude service from any other restaurants. This server (who could be the owner) was very aggressive and yelled loud to my group after one of our group complained about his bad service. I will never go back.

Such a great find as we were driving to Portland. An unexpected gem in a mini mall in Wilsonville. Space is transformed by beautiful furnishings. The staff is so welcoming. Delicious lunch with great veg options and refreshing mint iced tea.

Having dinners here is one of my favorite experiences and the food is so good. I also like to go for their mint tea on hot summer days.

We had our first date there last June, went back on our anniversary, still great food, atmosphere, and service was impeccable, Omar was alone in the dining room and never missed a beat or lacked a smile. Their mint tea is worth the visit by itself...I like mine hot.

Edit: I went in for lunch the other day and it was okay. 3 stars. Original review: We just returned from my birthday meal, and my fiancée and I both agreed that the food was terrible-some of the worst we have had in years. My tagine with Cornish hen was horribly overcooked. The couscous was dehydrated and the hen was almost hard. Her salad was rancid. Even the pitas were overcooked. I will say that the sweet Moroccan tea was solid, but we paid $80 for a meal that I wouldn't even give to my dog.

Highly recommend Dar Essalam for authentic Moroccan food. Their lamb shank tajine with couscous is the best, so tender and succulent! Great atmosphere with kind and attentive staff. Looking forward to coming back again.

This is a very unique restaurant. The decor, the food, and the staff all add to the experience. You feel like you are in Morocco. Everything tasted strange to me but was absolutely delightful. I had kabobs of Beef, Lamb and chicken, the lintel soup was amazing, the dessert was a sweet bread filled with hot peach slices with spices and ice cream on top that was fantastic. This was my first visit, but I plan to return soon!!

We discovered this place more than a decade ago and originally ran by a very nice couple running this family business, I believe they passed this down to the sons. It's still as consistent as when we first visited it. Every time in wilsonville we try to hit up this place for a great meal. Highly recommend the mint tea and the kabobs and tagine plate

From the moment we stepped into the beautifully styled dining room, I knew it was going to be special. We were visiting friends in Canby, OR and they said that we had to go to Dar Essalam and it definitely lived up to the hype. It is a very traditional restaurant and it if a whole experience. They do not serve alcohol here, but you can choose between a few different teas, milk, water, or soft drinks. I would highly recommend the fresh minted green tea. It is a little sweeter than you would expect, and it is delicious hot or cold. We were with a group of seven and everyone was able to find something on the menu they liked including the kids! My husband and I shared the kabob platter and the lamb shank tajin, and they were both excellent. My husband said it was the best lamb shank he has ever had. The food is brought out in different courses, and we ended up being there for about two hours. The children we were with ordered from the kids' menu and they platted their food to look like little bears. It was so cute and unexpected! We wanted to get the baklava for dessert but they were out so we got flan instead. The flan was just okay, but it might not be my thing anyway. If you are in the Wilsonville area, I absolutely recommend going to Dar Essalam!

The food was great, but I was shocked that they are serving non halal beef there. Be careful and ask if your meal contains any non halal food because no one warned me when I ordered sultan kabob feast and I knew by chance when I received my plate by one of my colleagues. I asked them to change the un-halal beef by something else and they did it right away. Other than that everything was awesome.

Excellent place to taste good Moroccan food, the food is delicious with a very balanced spice seasoning, the pita bread is excellent and you definitely have to try the Moroccan flan, and the cold mint tea with a touch of flower of chance: NOTE the prices of the dishes are between 13 and 28 dollars and the dishes are not very large or exaggerated, but without a doubt different and very rich flavors.

This is a family favorite. We went here last night to celebrate a birthday. We've had the Cornish Hen Tajine many times, which is always fabulous. Last night, I tried the Lamb Leg Tajine with the olive/lemon/artichoke option, and saffron rice. It was absolutely out-of-this-world amazing! The restaurant was packed because it was a Saturday evening; we arrived at 5 PM and it was full by 5:30. I think locals know this place is a gem, so it is probably very busy on Friday and Saturday evenings. (They are not open on Sunday.)

Food was great with top notch service and perfect ambience. We will definitely visit again. We ordered chicken dinner salad and chocolate brewat.

If you want to eat 100% Moroccan, forget it.... However, they are simply super welcoming, helpful, and very friendly.... Unfortunately, the cuisine does not follow suit. However, nothing surprising given the products in the US....

I can suggest a perfect lunch menu for 2 for you guys! We started by having hummus on pita which was Delicious ! Main entrees included chicken Kabobs with house salad and lamb kabobs with chilled couscous salad. I loved the way the lamb was marinated and cooked! The house salad was a perfect balance of sweet and sour! Also don’t forget to get pitas! Finish off your lunch with Moroccan flan. This is a must have! I repeat, this is a must have dish 😋🤤🤤🤤🤤

I will start by saying that I don’t write reviews, but this place was Awful !! It was my mother‘s Birthday. We were excited to go here we love Moroccan food but what an incredible disappointment! Terrible service, awful food everything was overcooked and dry and cold. The hummus tasted like sweet, sugary something but it definitely wasn’t authentic hummus . They didn’t bring any appetizer plates. The restaurant was freezing cold. The people working there were rude and of no help to people that were there for the first time. The menu was confusing. They had no suggestions of what we should try. I asked for a side of sauce and they said no we can’t do that unless you order a specific item that comes with the sauce. It took forever to get our food. I have no idea why this place has five star reviews unless they paid these people. We had had 11 people in our party, and everybody agreed it was a horrible experience and terrible food. I will never go back and it’s way overpriced! $400 wasted! I make better kebabs and hummus at home and I’m Italian. If I could give zero stars, I would! I know people will think well why didn’t you complain or send your food back but if you would’ve been there, you would understand why we just wanted to get out of there.

Sultans kabab feast was amazing!

It was a fun dining experience. The food is very good. This is definitely something a little more old school. Full dinner comes with appetizers, lentil soup, pickled veggies, and then your selected main course. They even had rose water to wash your hands at the end of dinner. Very fun.

Our visit was just as good as the first. The staff is amazing. Finally, after many years of intending to, we finally got to experience Dar Essalam. The employees were all very welcoming and friendly, which made the experience so much better. There aren't a lot of entrees on the dinner menu, but still a great variety for everyone to choose from. My wife split the sultan kabob feast with one child, while another and myself opted for the tajine, ox tail and lamb shank, with the youngest choosing the chicken kabob from the kids menu. Despite being completely full, we still managed to finish off some dessert too. We had both the Casablanca fruit bastilla and chocolate brewat. Both were delicious. Definitely a restaurant to visit again.

We always enjoy coming to Dar Essalam even though it's a bit of a drive to come south to get to it! Once again the food was quite good and we both got our favorites. When we go again, however, I plan to try something else rather than the bastilla. Since I have had it almost every single time, I am ready to branch out!! My husband gets the Tajine with the lamb shank. I may also have to try that next time! The staff were busy, but were also attentive to the customers.

We discovered this place a couple of years ago and now return for a treat. It's a little pricey, but I think adequately priced because of the expensive spices they use. It's beautiful inside and they are always very welcoming. Food came out fast and even things I thought wouldn't blow my mind (i.e. we've all had humus before), blew my mind. I could eat their hummus by the spoonful.

New fave! I got the Cornish Hen Tajine with pita and couscous and my husband got the Sultan Kabob Feast - delish! I ended up taking half of mine home because it was plenty of food! The pita and hummus, lentil soup, and marinated veggies leading up to entrees are great. We got Sweet Moroccan Mint Tea and, wow, so good. We topped it all off with the Casablanca Fruit Bastilla - yum, yum, yum! Our server was great, atmosphere is nice, very clean - ONLY suggestion would be to play some music, it's painfully quiet in there 😅

First time lunch was superb - Eggplant sandwich and Salmon kabob with mint tea. Really, really tasty, starting with the hot and sweet mint green tea served elegantly and with altitude - yes, ALtitude - with a sample of the house hummus. Then came the mixed green salad with a mysteriously delicious dressing, subtly spiced rice, perfectly grilled salmon dressed with a delicate yogurt sauce, and smoky charred eggplant on a tender and fragrant pita. Must go back ASAP with friends for dinner tagines!

Always an amazing experience at this restaurant, been here about 5 times and will always come back! Their Gyro is amazing, my favorite is the Lamb Shank with couscous in sweet apricot sauce, it’s out of this world! Their signature tea is a hit, and all the food honestly is so good! It’s very cozy vibes in there, keep in mind for summertime there is no AC, so it can get a little humid but we were fine! Also tried the baklava for the first time, my taste buds were dancing!

One of the best meals of my life! We have heard great things, and finally got to try it ourselves. The flavors are unmatched. The bastilla and tajin were out of this world. The mint tea is so delicious (get the large size.) The music, the waitstaff and the beautiful hand painted and carved decor feel like Morocco. Can not wait to come back!

Amazing food but it's too bad they don't answer their phone sometimes when it gets busy. We have decided to order pick-up from them on multiple occasions where we had to change plans due to the phone not being answered. The food is so delicious though-- definitely one of the top places I've been to in the Portland area, so can't dock them points for it.

Wasn't thrilled to be up-sold on two sides, even less happy with no paper check. When asked for the bill he could not produce it. Atmosphere is nice, food was decent, but would not go back.

By far the best restaurant experience in Wilsonville! This is the perfect restaurant for celebrating a special occasion like a birthday or an anniversary. Go in early and beat the rush. It's also great lunch spot Monday through Thursday if you want to impress a friend. The Moroccan Mint tea is amazing as is the chocolate nut puff pastry dessert served with ice cream. Actually, everything I have eaten there is delicious. Enjoy!
