Excellent! Great food and excellent prices.

Really good food prepared by good people. While we may have been there from out of town, we saw a steady parade of locals stopping in to grab their dinner to go. Shrimp were delicious, and the wings managed to fill our teenage boys.

The best restaurant in Charleston. Wonderful people. Great lunch and consistently delicious. Priced for the locals to keep coming back. Cant say enough good things, Charleston would not be the same without them.

Having grown up in Charleston, I have since moved but Dave’s is always on my must eat list. It hasn’t changed in 30+ years in the best way possible. They still got it and it’s one of my happy places.

Found this place accidentally when I was looking for another restaurant Excellent customer service (very welcoming like family) The vibe is like going to a "family cookout" or "family dinner" Food was made to order (so hot & fresh), very flavorful, deep down south style Definitely a fantastic choice for a "Cheat Day" meal😍💜😋💜😍 Ample Portion sizes Reasonable prices Wait time wasn't bad although they had many customers This was my first visit and I felt like I was a long time customer with the way they treated me I was curious to know how long they had been in the restaurant/catering industry & they said over 30 years experience, about 15 years in the current location 😭🙈🙉🙊 Idk how I never smelled that aroma, saw their sign, or heard about them I would definitely recommend this restaurant

Love a "mom and pop" shop and Dave's will not disappoint! Fresh seafood...okra soup reminded me of my grandmother's. Go show them some love and get you a seafood platter, you won't regret it!

Came here all the time when we lived in Charleston and still come back even though we moved to another state. We always get the shrimp and fries and pork chop sandwich and fries. The food is fresh, good and at a very reasonable price. I met the owner 13 years ago, and he still remembers me when I call in my order when I'm on my way to pick it up. There are not many places like this left in Charleston anymore.

Dave’s take out may be a small and simple restaurant but the customer service and food is AMAZING! The food was truly like a home cooked meal and Dave was the nicest person we encountered our whole trip. The scallops were mouth watering. We couldn’t get enough. If you’re in town can’t suggest this place enough!

The ONLY place (any where)I have ever had a crab cake that I actually liked. Simply amazing. The scallops were perfect, fish was spot on and shrimp was delish. If you are in Charlestown you have to go!

I hadn't been here in nearly 15 years, but I was back in the area recently and reminisced over the food. y'all better go and give them business. Dave's is a staple and we can't have them closing down

I have never been inside, but I have had the shrimp basket twice. The fries are okay, but the shrimp is the best I have had in Charleston. The shrimp is big and flavorful and the breading they use is flavorful. Every time I have ordered online, they have been friendly enough. Nothing noteworthy. Definitely recommend the Fried shrimp.

I never knew about Dave's until I moved downtown a month ago the first time I bought a fried chicken wing with french fries and fried fish sandwich the chicken was not only uncooked it had clusters off batter on it the chicken was bleeding and it tastes strange it didn't even taste like chicken the second time I went there was a month later when a friend bought me the same dinner fried chicken and french fries I asked the lady to cook the chicken much longer the chicken was cooked correctly but it still had clumps of chicken batter on it also the chicken was so hairy it was disgusting how could someone Miss so much here on food that goes to show you how much they care about their customers just look at the pictures then you'll know what I'm saying I did figure it out what that weird taste was which was they cooked the chicken in the fish Grease a few days later I was on the bus and some of the passengers was telling me that they stopped eating Dave's since the '80s for the same reason that they cook the chicken in the same grease as the seafood

All I can say is I was torn between the chicken and the fish, so I got both! You gotta check this place out!

Terry is a one man show and gets it done fast and always fresh been coming here since the 90s every chance I'm downtown and can stop by I will the cashier is awesome also!!!

Found this place by accident. Good, down home fish fry joint., very simple but good food. Staff was nice and super personable, they seemed to know everyone by name. Will return when back in town.

The best chicken & fries in charleston!!

Simple, no-frills carry-out only restaurant that really hits the spot. Platters are generously portioned with the option of steak-cut fries or red rice. Got the seafood platter with fries plus a side salad (+$2) and the scallop platter with rice. Everything was delicious, just make sure you don't take too long to pick your order up because things get soggy when steam builds up in the take-out container! Seafood was battered and fried really well. Comes with cocktail and tartar sauce. Ketchup packets available at the counter. Friendly service, polite and the two behind the counter greet you with a smile. Would recommend to anyone! Will definitely be coming back.

If you're looking for a great place to get some cheap, delicious food, Dave's Carry-Out is the place for you! The sandwiches are mouth-watering and they always have a great selection of sides. I never leave there unsatisfied!

Cool little spot off the beaten path. I had the fried fish and shrimp platter with fries and a side of red rice. Everything was delicious and the price and portion sizes can't be beat!

Called to see if they were still open cuz I had an issue with my food(hair) the person answered the phone to tell me their not open, I reply I know you open back at 530, she replies bk " oh what time is it, I tell her..., she states "ok"... have a good day n hangs up on me...this is why blk owned companies fail here ghetto and rude customer service... never again!

I forgot to take pictures before I started eating. Since the food is so good, it was all gone when I realized I didn't take a picture. 1. Calling on the phone takes patience and a few trys, but once your call is answered, the gentleman greats you nicely and takes your oder with efficiency and zeal. 2. When you get to restaurant be prepared for a short and entertaining wait. Mr Dave, is cooking, talking to customers, taking orders and making you feel like you are the most important person. He recites the orders back with ease and little effort. He was so kind. 3. The food. OMG. I ordered whiting, shrimp and red rice. It was outstanding and fresh. My mom ordered the seafood platter without deviled crab. Her food was amazing. The price, quality and quantity were excellent 4. Have you ever reheated takeout, and it not be as good the next day? Well, that is not the case at Dave's. I reheated my food in the toaster oven, and was so good 5. The tarter sauce ... it has to be homemade. It has a lot of flavor and a great accompaniment to my seafood meal. So thank you so much for a good Friday night takeout in Charleston Next time I'm home, I surely stop in again.

Wanted to hit this place up before leaving Charleston and so glad I did. It's truly nothing fancy about this place, but what matters most is that the food is fire. And fire it was! I ordered the Seafood Platter ($19.50), which came with fried shrimp & fish, scallops, and devil crab). It was all served up with fries and it was such a satisfying meal. The fish was perfectly fried and the shrimp was big! Never had devil crab before, but I liked it. It was crab cake-ish in terms of texture and taste, but wholly unique as well. This was a black-owned restaurant that I was excited to support and I can see why it's remained a popular spot in the city for good seafood.

Fresh, hot, and delicious seafood cooked up and served by friendly people. I got the seafood platter with collards and my boyfriend got the scallop platter with rice and limas. The sides were full of flavor. The scallops, shrimp and fish were lightly battered and fried - you could tell they were fresh. The deviled crab was so flavorful. Out of the many restaurants we went to during our week in Charleston, Dave’s takes the cake. It is carry out only, so we ate it on the church steps down the block.

I visited Charleston for a short time, and discovered that most of the nice restaurants all require reservations months in advance. So me and my friend changed our food strategy and decided to look for takeout only type places. We wanted some seafood, so this place popped up on google. I walked there from the hotel, walked in at around 5:30 or so, they took my order, just a couple of other patrons in there. I watched him fry up the food, package it up, I paid and walked back to the hotel. Absolutely delicious food. Just exactly what you'd expect. Like a really good food truck or carnival food. Fantastic experience with no pretension. Old school feel.

I'm so glad I came to Dave's. It's been so long since I ate from there and nothing has changed but the location. Last I went there was when they were on Rutledge Ave. Can't wait to come back for so more good eating.

This place was awesome! My husband and I were determined to get some good seafood before leaving Charleston to go back home, and all I can say is…….Mission accomplished! The shrimp was crispy, well seasoned and fresh. The red rice had us licking our fingers, and the fried chicken wings were soooo good. The service was friendly and sweet. People were treated like family as they entered in. I heard people being called by their first names, and being asked “How’s your mom doing?” You can’t feel that kind of love everywhere. We will return very soon!

Was super excited to try this place! We had missed it on our last trip to Charleston, so we purposely made the effort to be here on days Dave's was open this time. Got the fried scallop & shrimp dinner. $18.50, split it between two people. Shrimp and scallops were tasty, but seemed like not enough for the price. More fries than seafood. Had it been eaten by one person, rather than sharing, it would've been enough food, but still seems a little expensive. Overall, it was fun to watch the food being cooked, glad we tried it, but just wasn't as blown away as I expected to be after reading all the hype on this place.
