Food was decent.Good service and decent ambience

So good! Staff is super sweet and accommodating. Food is delish. Margs are amazing. We had a very nice waitress twice, I don’t remember her name (dark hair and wearing jeans shorts/ van sneakers). Will def return next time I go to Newport

Its hard to return from vacation abroad where the food quality from the most remote eating spots is so good and affordable, to then go eat at a place like Diegos. $18 for two struggle cauliflower tacos. I couldnt justify this price if all the ingredients were organic and grown in house. It gets better... $12 for a mocktail in a whisky glass with ice 💀 Make it make it make sense. I spent $32 and left hungry. Foodsploitation + shrinkflation. The most expensive food in a supermarket is Meat and Fish why are 2 small cauliflower tacos $18?

Went for breakfast! Was very good. Service wasn't the greatest. Both my wife and I had multiple empty glasses and waited over 20 minutes for bill.

Great little spot for a quick, little, bite. Have been wanting to try it out and it was good. Had the Street Tacos with chicken and the Mango Tango mock tail was delicious. Fun vibe, staff were attentive.

We went to Diego's after finding good gluten free reviews, and it didn't disappoint. They had a lot of great options to choose from. The food was fresh and delicious. The restaurant is located in the heart of Newport, right on the pier. My only beef is that I had to pay for chips & salsa.

Terrific brunch served by a fabulous server

This was my first time. We only ordered appetizers, and it was very good. However, the server didn't return. We had been waiting for a bit to order the meals and more drinks etc, but my brother was disenchanted at the service and we just left. I didn't like how dim the light in the bathrooms was. We spent almost 89, which I think is expensive for 2 simple appetizers, 2 drinks, soda, and coffee

Diego's is very good, with flavorful tacos. I got the fish tacos and they were incredible, i couldn't get enough. However, those tacos come with a incredibly high price tag of $16.50 for two average sized tacos. With said price, I was expecting at the very least some cheap chips to be on the side, buy no. There were no sides. Along with the tacos, we got a Tres Leche Cake for $10. With said price tag, we were expecting something that could be easily split between multiple people, but it was much too small to split anything but a few bites to everyone. However, the quality of the food served here may be worth the price tag, though don't come here expecting huge amounts of food for your money. (Date visited: July 27)

Very friendly staff, and creative menus both for food and cocktails. Convenient location and comfortable fun environment. Would return if I'm in the area again!

The food was EXCELLENT (kudos to the cooks!) and the drinks were EXCELLENT (kudos to the bartender!). Unfortunately the waitress lost out on some business for the restaurant, as myself and many members of my party would have loved to order more, but she was often nowhere to be found. And when she was around and I had a question, she answered in a rude tone and attempted to get away as fast as possible. I ordered a coffee and it was never brought over, and for some reason she chose to announce to our table out of nowhere “be patient today, the rain is going to slow us down.” Not sure why rain has anything to do with slowing the service down or why, again, her message was delivered in a rude manner. But overall we enjoyed our experience thanks to the atmosphere and delicious food and drink.

Not authentic Mexican food good but not great. Fajitas were more baked then grilled no sizzle but very hot.

90 degrees on the top floor, benches and tables were sticky, mai tai was the worst I have ever had and straight booze. Which normally I like because I drink alot Chips and salsa had no flavor, walked out before I finished half the drink and a couple chips. You have 4 ACs upstairs and it was cooler outside. Maybe turn them on for people to go spend 1-200 on dinner

The bad: wow, the service was horrible! All teens that didn't seem bothered. We had to ask 2-3 different times before getting anything we asked for (water, napkins, drinks). We didn't get the sides for our meals until the meals were done. We didn't get our drinks until we were completely done with everything else. There was also so much trash all over the floor. I asked them if they could get the trash a few times because my toddler kept going for it, but no one cared. The good: the food and drinks were really good. We appreciated how accomodating they were for my mom's dietary restrictions and we love that they had a whole vegan menu! Might be better as a bar scene, wouldn't recommend for a family outing.

Honestly, one of the most tasteless meals I have had in a while. Check #196 on July 17th picked up at 20:54. None of our meals came with sauces as described in the menu ( there were no sauces with it meals aside from a jacama sauce that we asked for on the side). The avocado tostada has 2 pieces of avocado? We paid 62$ to have a nice meal and it was a waste. The dishes that we got were bland, did they forget to put the sauces?

The only way to explain this place is that some rich wannabe crust punk kid got bored and said, “I’m gonna open a Mexican joint!” Then hired all his friends. If you’re also from out West, turn away! This food is far far from authentic and honestly I’d say chipotle is better (and so much cheaper!) We wasted $100 for a cup of ceviche, a cup of guac, 3 taquitos, and 2 tacos and it all was horrible. The chicken was super rubbery, the guac literally was just mashed up avocado, the ceviche was gamey, the “birria” taquitos were overly crispy and instead of broth you dipped it in pace salsa? This is literally by far the worst Mexican food I’ve ever had in my life. While I absolutely appreciate the punk influence, you gotta have the quality of food to back it up. I will say, the only plus was our waitress, she was super sweet.

We love Diego's! It was a regular when we lived in Newport years ago. We just visited again, and made sure we fit this into our agenda. Best BBQ sauce! Awesome vegetarian and vegan options, and a lot of kid friendly options (small portions for kids). We had a great experience, and it lived up to our memories here!

Diego's never disappoints. Good food and selections. Service is always on point. Margaritas are plentiful.

Nachos are crunchy all the way through but lack any discernable seasoning or taste and the pork was very scarce. Burrito was good but bland. Basic Mexican food at best. Definitely a tourist trap with impeccable service. Wouldn't return but appreciated the go. If you want true Mexican...go to Texas like an adult

Overpriced!! You should get 3 tacos per order not 2. Chips and salsa are exorbitant! Rice and beans as a side for $8 is ridiculous. Service was poor but they were short staffed - could have handled it better with improved communication. Food was fine.

We went to Diego’s bc it had a vegan menu. It went badly from the first moment. We waited almost 2 hours to get a table (15 mins more than they predicted ) - but that was fine. We knew they were busy. But once we were seated, it took 40 minutes to get even chips on to the table. We were only served water. Finally, when the chips arrived, they seemed to be from multiple bags. At least 70% of them were completely stale! Still, we ate them bc we were starving. Then the food arrived — an hour+ after we were seated — and the tacos and the rice were cold. The serving staff was running around full pitch, working their butts off, and they took the tacos off our bill, which was a nice gesture, but I really think the management is what screwed this whole thing up. And this was at around 8:30 PM, mind you, not at peak dinner time! If you’re understaffed, reduce the number of tables! Don’t put your employees and your customers through this misery!

Diego's has the best food. I had been to the sister location before and loved it so this trip we stopped at this location and were not disappointed. The salso trio and chips are so delicious. My son and I lived the fish tacos. We would highly recommend to anyone to come hungry.

Great service, super friendly and attentive. Great food. Came out fast and fresh. They are dog friendly in the outside areas and even gave us another chair to put our little pup on (we had a blanket to set her on) would definitely come back again.

Visit during the week to enjoy less traffic! Margaritas amazing. Had queso and guacamole with chips. 2nd visit the chips weren't cooked, but they were very busy (many bridal shower parties). Kind wait staff. Sit upstairs for wharf views. Decore charming

I got a top shelf margarita and it was not good at all. I ordered the fried tofu tacos and was told they were out of tofu so I asked them to swap out cauliflower. Well, my tacos came with buffalo cauliflower which was quite disgusting. I didn't even eat my meal. The server didn't even ask if everything was ok.

It would be hard to write a bad review about Diego's, but wanted to note that the patio is dog friendly, and our server Patrick was great. It's sort of a yearly summer must if you live here all year, in my opinion.

I returned to Diego’s this year for a bite to eat after a beach day and it is not at all how I remember it… our service was not very attentive and considering we were sitting at the bar I expected good service. My fiancé got the burrito and it was much smaller than years in the past. I ordered a salad with the blackened catch of the day. The salad was delish but it was brought to me without any silverware. By the time I received my silverware the fish was cold. I’ve always been a fan of Diego’s but after this last visit I don’t think we will be back. Considering the lack of attentive staff and the quality of the food for the price, I would rather dine anywhere else in Newport.

Great food, drinks are stellar. Not too expensive either. Staff are also awesome, super friendly. The margaritas are amazing, but try some of the others as well. The Inglorious Basterd was phenomenal.

Ordered a pickup. Expensive but not that great. Have eaten burritos much tastier. If you sit there and eat , the place is very live though.

Really disappointed. We got on off the apps on the specials menu, Birria loaded fries, flavor wasn't bad by fries were cold. We also ordered the Rangoons tasted like they were freezer burned and fried in old oil. We got a pitcher of skinny margaritas and it tasted like OJ not good. We planned on having dinner, but we cute our losses and went elsewhere. The music was terrible, you would have figured there'd be Mexican music on Cinco de Mayo...

By far the worst 20$ margarita I have ever had. Been coming here since opening. Extremely disappointed.

Overall, the experience was okay. We enjoyed the duck empanadas the best. The white peach sangria was mostly oranges not peach which made it sour so I wouldn’t recommend. The burritos were alright as well, the pulled pork is pretty dry. The tres leches cake was overpriced for the size we got and it was mediocre. The service overall was great and it was a great vibe!

Great job! Chimichanga was fire! Queso dip was next level delicious. Fish tacos did not disappoint! Make sure you save room for the churros. I was in town from LA (Cali) and this Mexican food SMOKED my place back home. Well done Diego!

came here for lunch because I wanted some nachos and fish tacos. this was the perfect spot. the place seems busy all the time, but service is friendly and they are hustling to get you seated and served quickly. we had some nachos and tacos, beer and churros. the fish tacos and catch of the day tacos were great. nacho plate was the bomb. they had plenty of different hot sauces. I will definitely return if ever in the area again.

The best Mexican place for all the vegetarian/vegan people!! They offer a separate Vegan Menu and the taste is delicious! I love the drinks and dessert too! Definitely recommend trying this place!

This place is so good my first review didn’t post and I am resubmitting another to make sure it posts. I’d say it’s more of a 4.5 stars, the only issue I had was parking (which isn’t in them) and ittook a while to get a table and the wait time wasn’t acknowledged. I think the food was great the drinks were delicious and there is options for all diet types. Vegan Gluten free etc. I will definitely come back and definitely tell people it’s worth it. The prices are a little higher than most taco places but I felt it’s justified buy the quality. Great portion of nachos and everything tasted fresh.

We grabbed a dinner with the family and the food was delicious. The waitress was friendly and very attentive. I haven’t had good tacos for quite some time now.

Had Korean tacos and it was really scrumptious! I'd go back for that any time. Was seated on patio with heaters. Very comfortable. I didn't bring my dog with me since the weather seemed unstable. But the people at next table did and was getting great attention.

Overall the experience was good. The staff was very attentive and friendly, The food was tasty. The martini had way too much vermouth in it despite ordering it very dry. The atmosphere was upbeat but a bit crowded. All in all its worth visiting.

Did not have a chance to taste any of the dishes. Therefore; I did not rate it. However the dishes look pretty good and I could tell people were enjoying them . I walked in after dining across the street just to have some churros and let me tell you that those churros were simply delicious

Navigating the challenging parking situation at Bowen's Wharf, Diego's offers a delightful experience with its exceptional food. I indulged in the flavorful Korean BBQ pork belly tacos and Crispy Brussels with Ponzu and Garlic for appetizers--delicious! Accompanied by a generously poured margarita served in a mason jar glass, the traffic involved in getting here became much more manageable. While perusing the menu, I made mental notes of other appetizers and entrees for a future visit. The Arugula & Street Corn Salad caught my eye, and I'm intrigued by the tempting description of Pimientos de Sal (shishito peppers with aioli). Diego's also boasts a full Vegan menu, not just a few options, which I find commendable. Oyster Mushroom tacos, Roasted Beet and Butternut Squash tacos, and Buffalo Cauliflower Burrito--all sound appetizing, even for a non-vegan like me. They also offer a complete Gluten-Free menu. (Note: If you choose to park in the lot where The Mooring Seafood & Kitchen Bar is located, be prepared for steep parking fees.)

Did some extensive research to find places that are great to eat at while on a quick trip to Newport! Diego’s was mentioned in many articles, so decided to give it a try. The staff is great, the atmosphere is awesome with the skull motif and rock music. The food, is not great. As a native New Yorker, this should’ve had alarm bells ringing in my head once I decided to walk into a Mexican fusion-y type place. The sautéed calamari I tried was basically tomato water. It was neither sweet nor spicy which is how the menu described it to be. If it was neither one of those, fine. But it lacked the most basic of seasonings. Not a hint of salt nor pepper. We had to ask for hot sauce, and all they had was cholula. It was literally squid in water with tomato essence. And when it came to our table it had a distinct fishy smell, so I will NOT be surprised if I suddenly came down with food poisoning tomorrow. I struggled to finish because I was going to pay for it anyways. The spicy crab rangoons were decent, but once again, not spicy. They lacked any sort of distinct flavor, the only saving grace was the sauce that came with it, and even that is pushing it. The tacos?! My friend got ahi tuna poke tacos, I got fish tacos. I tried to give it the benefit of the doubt but I couldn’t even finish them. Red bell peppers in tacos? I should’ve just paid and booked it but I tried to finish. Sangria tasted like juice and water. Decent atmosphere and staff, absolutely abysmal food. I have NO idea how people call this the best Mexican food they’ve ever had, it’s like they watched a cartoon WikiHow on what Mexicans eat and took it from there.

This was the worst Mexican food and margarita I've ever had in my life. They tried to get creative with the food and failed miserably and it was apparent that the only allure to the place is the vicinity to the harbor.

It was okay, if you like real Mexican food this is not the place. 3 of the 4 people in our group did not like their cocktails. We all had tacos and thought they were bland. I specifically got the flight of tacos which had four different types of tacos and would not go back for any of them.

Food was tasty, atmosphere felt dirty, service was good- they forgot one of our dishes and it was so late they comped it. Tables were wobbly and stuff spilt. Was pretty pricey for portion sizes.

Being from Texas may bias my take on the food.. which was tasty, albeit overdone. I get it, you pay for the view but $17 for two small tacos should also include a couple shots of tequila. Service was good. Background music ranged from 80s alternative to punk to metal… not your typical playlist unless downing overpriced tacos from a food truck near a mosh pit. You’ll make your money because of the location but none more from me. Cheers.

Compared to mexican food in Atlanta & California this is subpar. The chips are hard and thick, salsa was okay, guacamole was better. We ate inside on the first floor seasonal room. The flooring is uneven, chairs were uncomfortable. Unfortunately we won’t return. The Red Parrot is much better.

Really excellent service and good food! When we went for dinner they had a mix of indoor and outdoor seating options. The atmosphere is kind of divey and punk, but our server was very nice and friendly, so we felt welcomed. The food was good, with generous portions.

Had a little bit of a wait on Saturday but it was well worth it. Best nachos I have ever had. Burrito was good as well.

We received a recommendation to sample their tacos, and my husband and I absolutely adored them. We polished them off in less than 10 minutes! It's funny because we initially came with the intention of trying lobster roll, but to our surprise, it wasn't on the menu. However, we have zero regrets about trying their tacos. You should definitely give them a try! We're already planning to return and explore more of their menu on our next visit to Newport.

We came here for lunch after trying their food at the Seafood Festival yesterday and it was delicious yet again. Our server was attentive and knowledgeable about the food. We (the two of us) had fish tacos, a barbacoa burrito, and the street corn. The host was super friendly and the inside decor was so interesting!

We came here with a group of 7 when they first opened and while the food was good, the service left much to be desired. We felt like the hostess and waitress were annoyed by us immediately after we arrived. They were snippy and short with us. That made the atmosphere a little tense. Maybe it was just a bad day for the staff.

Food was okay, it was nice for the price and we paid 80+ dollars for a not good not bad meal. there was a long wait but it came hot and fresh. Servers weren’t very welcoming but were nice. Would rather eat chipotle burritos since theirs are way better.
