Stopped here on a whim, waited patiently along with the locals. I was kinda in the doghouse because I picked the place. But If the locals are waiting you know it’s good. I ordered an oyster dish that I really enjoyed and the crab cake benedict was also good. The coffee is good and hot. I was redeemed. Stop at Downie’s when you’re in Bay City, it’s worth the wait.

The ppk here are a bit slow. Food is average. The building is sinking and we were leaning due to it

Decent food, great wait staff, but the cook caused a fuss over us ordering chicken fingers to-go for our teenage daughter who wasn't feeling well when we first ordered. She ended up wanting something by the time the rest of the family had finished eating. We ordered to go, and nobody was waiting for a table. If there was some issue with chicken fingers, simply say they're unavailable, can you order something else. Instead, the cook gets the order from the server, and shouts, "for Pete's sakes!" And comes out of the kitchen to the freezer, scowling at my husband and I. It was comical and bizarre. Everyone is entitled to a bad day, but it might help with business if you don't make your customers feel like a burden.

Good food, good service. The place is tiny, so plan on waiting a little bit.

This is a little hidden hole in the wall restaurant. That's pretty awesome. The workers there are a well-oiled machine.

I wanted to try breakfast at this small cafe on my way back to Portland. It was busy, and I sat at the small counter and was moved to a table a short time later. I ordered two pancakes, two eggs, and two sausage patties after a long wait. The menu offers omelets, French Toast, Ground Round Steak, and much more. I received my order on two plates in about ten minutes with no problems. The pancakes were huge with good taste and were fluffy. The eggs and sausage patties were both good and not overcooked. The cafe has a lunch menu with homemade pies and cinnamon rolls. Located in Bay City on 5th Street, just off Hwy 101 and next to the mini-mart. You might have a long wait for a table and cash is the only payment accepted. A nice to stop for breakfast on the Oregon Coast with good food, friendly service, a menu with a number of options for breakfast and lunch with a homey small town vibe.

I ordered the French toast and it was literally just toast dipped in an egg wash, no cinnamon, no vanilla extract. It was extremely plan. My husband got the biscuits and gravy and he didn’t like the gravy said it had a strange taste. The hash browns were mushy not a good crunch. The prices weren’t bad but the food was okay

Our favorite breakfast during out trip down the coast of the PNW. Everything was delicious. HUGE cinnamon roll was fresh and warm. Staff was so friendly. That perfect small town feel. Got lucky enough to sit my a sweet old man that came every morning for breakfast and he spoke to us about how life used to be in this little town. We hope to visit again in the future.

A great place to have a homestyle breakfast with locals.

This place is the definition of a hole in the wall. I ordered the country fried steak and eggs. It tasted like they cooked with no sale or pepper and I love that. I don't like my food with much seasoning. The cinnamon rolls are really yummy and huge. I also had a piece of lemon pie. Very yummy with a strong lemon cream. This place is great if you get a chance to eat there.

The food was AMAZING!! I highly recommend their homemade biscuits because they are sooo soft and good! The hashbrowns were so crispy. The hamburger was really tasty and soft and the eggs as well! The service was so quick, was seated immediately. The environment is so nice and friendly! I love the staff and service. I highly recommend this place to check out. Price is very good with the quality of food!

Stopped while driving the coast randomly for breakfast. Everything was amazing. I got the chili omelet being a bit adventurous, and I'm so glad I did. It was tasty! Family got pancakes, cinnamon roll, and Denver omelet, and everything was so down to earth goodness! Definitely worth the wait when they are busy!

Stopped here yesterday as we were heading up the coast. So glad we waited for a table. The place is small and only open until 2:00pm. The staff is very friendly and inviting. We asked what the local favorites are, and boy was I happy with the answer. She said the chicken fried steak and cinnamon rolls are a big hit. Well, she had me at chicken fried steak. It was perfectly cooked how it is supposed to be, not a frozen hockey puck dropped in the deep fryer, but actually breaded and grilled on the flat top. It was absolutely delicious along with the hashbrowns and gray. The rest of the family tried other items including a light and fluffy strawberry pancake, once again fantastic tasting, a huge club sandwich and last but not least a hand breaded chicken sandwich that my very picky son tasted and stated "This is the best tasting chicken sandwich I had". He even liked it better that other nationwide famous chicken place. The fries were incredibly tasty as well. The chef is amazing, cranking out so much delicious food in such a small kitchen. We took a cinnamon roll home and had it this morning with our coffee, it was light and very tasty, wish we got two. Give this place a try, it is worth it, we will definitely be back.

All of the food was excellent. The servers were friendly and helpful and accommodated some special dietary needs. The place is rather small, as one would expect from a small town Cafe. Prices were reasonable. Would certainly come here again.

Chef Daniel did an amazing job, my family tried the omelets, French toast, has browns, and eggs Benedict. They were all so yummy! We were so happy we gave Downies a try.

Amazing food! I've been here twice and love it. The food is always incredible. Friendly service. Had to mark down for the atmosphere, though. The dining area is tiny and the fridge they keep the pies and cakes in is disgusting. And to get to the bathroom, you have to search for it through a dirty back storage room/kitchen.

Fabulous authentic family operated diner. Everything wonderful. You might have to wait, but it’s more than worth it!

Nothing remarkable either which way. Nice small town spot. Average diner fare. Shrimp omelette is just eggs and shrimp and wouldn’t recommend that. Farmer’s omelet was good.

Hometown Cafe that is well worth the stop. The food was savory and delicious. The staff was friendly and social able. They even mentioned they were opening a food truck in Tillamook with the other trucks. The cinnamon rolls are as large and tasty as the reviews lead on.

BEST BREAKFAST IN OREGON!!! Perfect place to stop at before heading to the beach. Amazing food and best service possible. The service was so good, that when I forgot my sunglasses on the table, they shipped them to me in Indiana 2 weeks later! Unbelievable group of people that deserves everything in the world for their hard work and dedication to customers.

Surprisingly great food in this tiny cafe that shares a parking lot and common wall with a mini mart! My pictures don't do the fresh ingredients justice but it was the best place we ate in the entire area. The staff was exceedingly friendly, the coffee was hot and strong (without being overpowering) It was quite full and busy but they made it work for everyone.

I was leaving Rockaway and wanted breakfast before going home. Oysters were a plus. I found this little spot on line. I was not disappointed. Eggs, toast, hash browns, and the tenderest panko coated oysters was perfect! Staff was friendly and accommodating. In short, I was very happy and have marked it to return to in the future.

A very little tucked away restaurant with wonderful food, wonderful service — just feels so homey! I’ll definitely drive out of my way to go back here again :) I got eggs Benedict on a biscuit instead of an English muffin. With gravy on the hash browns. Everything was excellent!

Downies is one of those delicious little hole in the wall cafes that serves up amazing food from scratch. I had an an incredible club sandwich, my boyfriend had some of the most delightful, fresh fish n chips and my mom had a tasty juicy burger she loved!

Oyster and eggs where else can you get that, they were large and fresh. Staff has personality and made our meal very enjoyable, family run place definitely recommended for breakfast

Amazing food! I had a tough time choosing between breakfast and lunch but ultimately chose the reuben. Delicious! My husband had the classic ham and eggs with gravy. Fantastic! Too full for dessert but a great assortment of pies and cakes. Marionberry, rhubarb, peanut butter pie 🤩

Staying in Rockaway Beach for the weekend. Found Downie's Cafe for breakfast in Bay City, a few miles south. Small cafe, great food, wonderful people. We had their home-made pancakes with bacon and the home-made biscuits and gravy with eggs. Eggs were perfect! Biscuits were top shelf! Pancake was good and fluffy! Amazing! Then we saw the CINNAMON ROLLS... Got one To Go! Thank you Downie's for a great start to our day!

What a wonderful, down-home family restaurant! I was thrilled and thankful to find this location. My server was excellent and truly accommodating! I ordered breakfast at the restaurant, plus lunch and dinner to go. Everything is delicious! It's such a blessing to have these delicious meals on a smow day in Garibaldi/Bay City!

Great little place, 6-7 tables is all, frequented by locals. Great breakfast, haven't tried other meals.

Great little cafe for breakfast. Quick, friendly service. Coffee was hot and good. Lots of choices on the menu. I had ham and eggs while my wife has the house made oatmeal. Tasty, filling, and just plain good. Will try lunch on our next visit.

Tasty turkey sandwiches! The spot is tiny and cute. Parking is on the street and it’s easy to miss the place. My husband really enjoyed the vegetarian sandwich. Very good veggies and excellent flavor. The fries were fine but forgettable. Service was excellent.

Had an amazing breakfast here on Sunday morning. There are a short wait but it was well worth it. The food was top quality and cooked to perfection. Local sausage and bacon were delicious. The staff was friendly and efficient. We will definitely be back!

Breakfast was worth the wait at this small cafe in Bay City. Service was friendly, the food was good and hot. They do not substitute pancakes for toast, which was a bummer, but not a game changer. I still recommend it!

They are in a small stance but to the best they can to make it work. The food was so good, service was great. Kept coffee cup full and the food was quick and so good. They are only open till 2 and closed Tuesday and Wednesday.

This place ROCKS!!! I knew this place was awesome before I even got my food!! The ladies helping us out this morning where ANGELS they where so kind and friendly also one of them saw my family looking at a poster of the town and she GAVE US FREE T SHIRTS!!! We got our food super quickly and it was so delicious!!! Overall this place is incredible if you are ever in the area you have to come to Downies Cafe!!

What a place for breakfast !. The portions are good sized, and with specials. I had the special of egg benedict with a crab cake under it instead of a half english muffin. Yes, it was very tasty. My wife had the veggie omelet and it good sized, We like this place and will be back. This is a good small diner.

The wait staff was kind and attentive, but they rushed me out even though I had half a plate of food and there wasn't an obvious need for my table. The grilled oysters were honestly pretty terrible. Considering the other reviews maybe I just picked the exact wrong thing on the menu, but really it seems like a very typical diner.

Disgusting behavior from both the cook and waitress. The minute we walked in we were greeted with immature smirks and even got cussed at. Nope definitely take your money somewhere else.

Really disappointed with the food. My cheesey Tillamook Cheddar omelet had no cheddar cheese in it. It had jack cheese. There was just a regular amount of cheese. The gravy for the chicken fried steak was really bland. The hash browns were"t crispy at all. Parties of six showed up and tried to get sat, but there are only about six tables in the place and none bigger than a four-top. It's not a good choice if you have more than four people in a party. The place is very small.

Shrimp omlet was fantastic, eggs Benedict with sausage patti was so good. The service is so great. We are coming back for lunch. Now that should tell you how good it all is.
