Love this place. It has character but best Mexican food.

Tacos are 😋 the salsa Verde and Roja they came with were icing on the 🎂

I don't know how this restaurant is running, the truth is, the food is not bad but the service is terrible. I ordered eggs with chorizo ​​and some Mexican eggs and a banana smoothie and a beer. We also bought other things from the store. But when they bring me food they only bring me Mexican eggs. I hadn't ordered the others, I didn't know that's what I ordered, ok the smoothie never arrived until I went to tell them again. As they say in my country they have a mess well done. They should serve the customer better if not because they want business. I repeat, the food is not bad but the man who served us did not know what he was doing, the good thing is that only I was a tourist. And 15.39 for some Mexican eggs, a little expensive for the type of place. Good food but terrible service!

Great service, fantastic food, good variety to choose from, price average.

Ordered over the phone for pick up no English speakers available but that’s ok we worked through it or I thought we did drive all the way there and back they forgot half the order called they said they would fix it drove all the way back and they said they closed the kitchen 20 minutes before they are supposed to be closed ! NEVER AGAIN!!!!

If you looking for a good mexican taste this is not the place.. i am sorry for this review but i have to be honest i try two different tacos 🌮 and didn't have any flavor i went for the tacos so i am only reviewing the tacos i dont now how the other food they have tastes . I have way better tacos close to this place once again i am reviewing just the tacos i can't talk about there other food i heard that they have a new owners but they stay with the same name people around says the old owner used to make really good tacos 🌮

Don't get it twisted the outside can deceive you. This place has the best customer service and food I have ever had.... REAL AUTHENTIC MEXICAN FOOD!!!. I WISH THIS PLACE WAS IN ALABAMA. THIS PLACE WA AMAZING!!!!

El menudo es pasable pero le falta más empeño en el sabe a pura agua con chile rojo le falta más sabor a ajo y a algunas más especies sabe muy ralo y si le podrían agregar maíz pozolero sabría mejor y dar más cebolla y limón, las tortillas echas a mano están bien , la salsa verde no tiene sabor solo sabe a chile molido con agua ay que echarle un ajó de perdido .. el personal si es muy amable

Welcome to a great experience from Mexico. when you immediately walk in you are greeted by friendly staff. Sit down and enjoy the freshness of the home made chips and salsa. When they say authentic they mean it. Being from Southern California and experiencing the Mexican food from there. This meal took me back home. I am thankful this place exist so close to where I moved and I will be back for more food memories.

Great Mexican restaurant hot food

Este lugar dice ser Mexicano y son de Guatemala. No es odio a nadie, solo cada quien a lo suyo. Los niños que están ayudando son muy mal educados y no saben nada de atender. Les doy 2 estrellas porque la señora que sirvió fue muy amable y si picó la comida.

Fairly average Mexican restaurant. Service has been getting very slow. Almost 1 hr to get our food. Forgot my granddaughters meal. I definitely won't be back if my schedule is tight or if my grandchildren are with me.

The food is incredible very authentic but be aware the hours are terrible and always changing. They close at 3pm on Saturday now & are closed all day Wednesday. Would probably be a good idea to call ahead and make sure they are open

Bad place we came in and started to order and they had nothing me and my kids wanted and the lady’s had a bad way to talk to us.

I was just to say thank you to the lady who made us a special order, because we got here when they were about to close. She was very nice, I'm sorry for not mentioning her name but with the hurry I forgot to ask. The "sopes" were delicious!

Food almost always really good. Sampled many things after a few visits. Menu isn't always clear about what comes on or with certain items so we've had a few "mixups" but has never disturbed the quality or flavors.

We stopped by today for lunch, as we are visiting the area for a relocation soon. The food was AMAZING & our portions were plentiful for a lunch plate special. The first sign of good, authentic Mexican food, is seeing Hispanic customers there as well. My only disappointment was that they do not have Margaritas, BUT the Modelo beer was cold & refreshing with our food.😋 Will CERTAINLY be visiting again soon!😉

Mexican place ??!! 1 - prices !! (Expensive) 2 - food !! (Not even is Mexican) 3 - attending ( need to be more friendly) As a Mexican I can tell you the food it’s not authentic!! I know we are in America (USA) but some places have something better !! I travel a lot crossing the whole east coast The prices to expensive!! Now with all this it’s your choice! Sometimes it’s better to try it if you do t believe in reviews!!

Comida mas autentico! One look in the window will tell you all you need to know. Every seat will be filled and of the 31 states of Mexico, most will be represented. Opening the door, the accustomed nose will smell the aroma of fresh made tortillas. It's also a tortillaria. Prices are typical to low for the region at about ten dollars for a hearty plate. In addition to the great food, they sell assorted Mexican groceries, spices, and boots. "I felt like I was in Mexico."

Was hoping for a great hole in the wall Mexican restaurant, but was greatly disappointed. Tried to order and there was just a mess of confusion between the workers and us. They are super friendly to the Hispanic costumers, but as the reviews read they aren’t much for Caucasians. No chips and salsa, unless you pay for barely salted chips and a tiny bowl of salsa. Bland flavors. Asked if they had French fries, for my small child and he said yes. He brought a bowl of rice. I don’t even know. Asked for salsa for my burrito he pointed to the store bought bottle on the table. They had a salad bar of jalapeños, bagged shredded lettuce and some sauces, they looked shady and just asking to get sick. Spent over $30 on two people at lunch. If the food was awesome, okay, but no! Forget about this place! I can’t understand why the rating is as high as it is.

I thought it was just a market until I noticed the window said "tacos to go" yesterday. Had my boyfriend grab me some today for lunch and oh my goodness! I have been missing out this whole time!! So so SO GOOD! And if you are really craving some spicy sauce--the green one is a winner for sure! I am so excited to eat there again!

So excited to find authentic Mexican food right here in Freeport! :) I live basically around the corner and assumed they were just a Mexican market. So glad I was wrong - their chimichangas are excellent! I can't wait to come back and try the rest of the menu! :)

Great place to eat real Mexican food.

The food was fantastic. Easily the best Mexican food I've had in Florida. I grew up in CA and lived in TX for 5 years and this place is definitely great! I'll be coming back with friends for sure.

I read the reviews for this place so I was prepared to 'kill 'em with kindness' if necessary. I quickly learned that not even kindness was effective. Oh well, I, too, felt as though I was an imposition, but the food was delicious. I found the prices to be okay, but I don't usually frequent Mexican restaurants where I have to pay for chips and salsa, so I can't promise this place won us over.

Definitely worth the stop! We're heading to the beach, read the reviews and stopped by. It is definitely a 'casual' restaurant but when people from Mexico are eating there, you know it has to be good. My husband ordered bean burritos and said they were amazing. I ordered the huevos with beans and rice which was fabulous. My husband was super excited that they had the real Coke from Mexico that is made with sugar and not high fructose corn syrup. This is my new favorite place to stop when heading to the beach.

Hands down the best, most authentic Mexican food EVER. Will definitely be back many times. Don’t let the first look steer you away. This place puts any other Mexican restaurant on the Emerald Coast to shame!!!

Close to real taste of ol mexico. Missed on a couple of marks. The salsa was non descript, could have used a little heat. The rest of the meal was great. Price is on target.

We eat here a lot. It's always good. I encourage the rest of the crackers who eat here to branch out and try some of the authentic dishes like mole, costilla, and caldo de res.

We stopped by at lunchtime because of the TripAdvisor reviews- we love hole in the wall local places! There were just a handful of cars in the lot, and about half a dozen people inside. We approached the counter to order, and the man standing there immediately shook his head at us and told us it would be a 45 minute wait. Wow! We had 2 hungry kids, and I couldn't imagine waiting nearly an hour in an empty restaurant. We headed on down the road to Freeport Cafe.

Love the tacos here but next time I'm going to try the soup. It looks good and seems to be popular. Nice salsa and topping bar. Friendly service. Muy bueno!

Interior is small with the kitchen entirely visible. A constant stream of phone in orders at meal times can make ordering a bit slow and wait times if eating in. Still we like to eat here for the good Mexican food they serve.

We stopped in on our way across Florida based on reviews we read on tripadvisor. We were greeted as we walked in and presented a menu. I ordered the beef taco combo while my husband ordered the enchilada combo. We also selected two Mexican Cokes from the refrigerated case. Wow! The tacos were well seasoned and everything from the tortilla to the cheese to the lettuce was fresh. The beans and rice were fresh as well. I didn't get to taste the enchiladas as my husband ate them so fast. He really enjoyed them. We were still hungry and decided to order three chicken tacos for a few dollars. The chicken tacos were just as good as everything else. The chicken was spiced just right. Our server brought over homemade hot sauces when we asked for some hot sauce. The sauces were fresh and the red sauce packed a powerful bit of heat and spice. We bought a pack of orange cookies from Mexico as there are items for sale to take home. We ate them in the car on the rest of our trip. They were light and had a hint of orange flavor. The staff was wonderful and friendly. Great food at a great price.

Traveling through this area, and found this place on trip advisor with high reviews. The outside of the restaurant could sure use some "curb appeal "!! Blankets as curtains and a ripped banner was not very inviting.. Inside, we where welcomed by very friendly people. Place was super clean! ( if you're not sure about a restaurant, check out the bathrooms first!! If they're dirty, move on) Prices are cheap, and food was the best I ate in a long time! So don't be discouraged and go try them out! Thank goodness for trip advisor uses who gave great reviews ..

I have eaten here dozens of time, never a disappointment, they are fast and everything is very good, great tacos, delicious refried beans, enchiladas etc.

I'm giving El Jacalito four stars because the food is great. To receive five it would have to be perfect and perfect is a high bar. Don't judge this place by the outside. Parking lot is not great, lawn is not manicured, and the building is rough. You go here for good food at a reasonable price. This was not my first time here, it's twenty five miles one way but worth the drive to me. Food made the way I like it. Friendly people and Freeport is a nice little area to visit.

Amazing flavor. Not "Americanized." Modestly priced. Small menu. I had selected an item for lunch from the menu, and then I saw the chicken with mole sauce being served. It look sumptuous. I ordered it. The chicken was moist and tender, the best I have had a long time. The mole sauce was incredible: deep, rich flavor, not too hot, just completely compellingly inviting.

The food is very good and very authentic. Be careful of ordering such things as tripe, tounge and goat just to name a few. I have the steak burrito and my spouse the chicken enchiladas and they were both delicious.

Most authentic Mexican in the area. Delicious and priced perfect. We pulled up and didn't think much from the outside but a definite diamond in the rough. The food was phenomenal. Got the steak tacos, chimichanga and kids tacos. We will be making a stop here again no doubt!

This is some of the best, most authentic Mexican Food outside of Mexico. It's a simple place and you can tell the owners went to great trouble to create an environment that feels like a casual neighborhood eatery in Mexico. From the decor to the kitchen team making fresh tortillas this place is a big hit! I will be going back weekly for the Barbacoa tacos. My son loved the tamales. AND I had to buy a bottle of the salsa picante that was on the table because I loved it. It was made in Guadalajara - one of my favorite Mexican cities. Go there - but not all of you, it's too good to crowd up!

Compared to any other restaurant in the area, they are cheaper than most. You can't tell it by the food. These ladies are queens in the kitchen. The food is fresh, flavorful and not loaded with all grease you find in other restaurants. I will be back!

This really is the best place to eat in Freeport. The salsa is amazingly good and fresh, the hot is five alarm hot! In a place filled with fried chicken and barbecue (blah) freeport has a winner with this place. Definitely better to take out...

The food is FRESH which is more than I can say for most places in this area. Great flavor & I've always enjoyed everything I've had there. Prices are decent & they're pretty quick with togo orders.
