Just there today & it was top notch

Very good. Hubby and I had the Cassandra special which was shrimp, steak and chicken over rice covered with cheese. It was amazing. Not sure how we've never eaten here before!! You have to try this place if you are ever in st. Louie. Margaritas were awesome too. Very well balanced!!

Placed a to-go order on Friday evening and was told it would be one hour, the male server I spoke with asked if that would be ok. I said yes that’s fine, and then the server voluntarily offered that if it were ready before then, they would call to let me know. I did not ask him to do this, he just said that they would. We live very close, so that would have worked out well. However, after we hung up I remembered the last time I had placed a to-go order, our food was cold when I picked it up at the quoted one hour, and no one had ever called me. So I arrived at the restaurant forty minutes after placing the order, figuring that I would just wait inside for it to be ready. When I got there, there were a few orders sitting. I saw the ticket next to a bag that had my order on it, so I got in line to pay. When it was my turn at the cashier, I told the girl working that I had been told it would be an hour, I showed up early and saw it was ready, but that I just wanted to make sure it hadn’t been sitting for long since no one had called. The girl was new, I think, and said she didn’t know how long it had been sitting. As we were talking, an older woman walked by and stopped, talking down to the girl and explaining to her how to check the to-go orders. I even watched her tuck the girls hair behind her ear. The girl was clearly very uncomfortable with being infantilized and said she knew how to do it, but was fumbling with her words trying to explain. I very politely re-explained what the girl and I had been talking about to the woman, that I had been told it would be an hour, showed up early, saw my order was ready and that I just wanted to make sure that my food hadn’t been sitting for long. (I have no idea where the guy was who actually took my order and told me he’d call me if it was done early.) Before I could even finish explaining that last time this happened my food was cold and that was why I wanted to check, this woman snapped at me and was incredibly rude and condescending, saying that the orders had just come out of the kitchen. The way she said it was so unnecessary that I literally put my hands up in defense and said “woah, okay, I was just asking”. I was shocked, literally too stunned to speak, so I just paid for my order and left. Once I got home and opened my boxes to find cold food, yet again, I realized how insane the interaction was. I was a polite paying customer, who was just trying to explain in order to make sure that I wasn’t taking home cold food, again, and absolutely did not deserve the way I was spoken to. I served and bartended for most of my life, doing everything from fine dining to dive bar, and I would have never even dreamt of speaking to someone that way. Although we enjoyed your food frequently, we will NEVER return. There is no excuse for treating a customer that way. This is now Tuesday and I am still really bothered by the way I was spoken to. Not only do you clearly need to re-examine the way you handle to-go orders, but you should also make sure your staff has decent enough manners to interact with the public. Good luck.

I've been here many times. It used to be kind of "meh" in the food department. Not bad, just nothing to get excited about. HOWEVER!!! they've clearly up'd their game! The menu has been redone with lots of new dishes added. Pollo tapatio is absolutely phenomenal!! As well as the Pollo Yucatan!! Both came with enough food to make 2 meals from. The chicken in both dishes was some of the best prepared I've had anywhere, while eating out. Don't sleep on this place!the service is great, it's clean and has good energy!!

My very favorite Mexican Restaurant! Chips and Salsa is great, the queso is so unbelievably good and my favorite is the Burrito Al Carbon which is a burrito with fajita steak it is so good!

My family went to El Nopal on March 13th around 4:00PM, and there was one server. He was doing everything; serving, seating people, serving people outside, and checking people out(register). He had at least 10 tables when we left, and it was not okay. Service was slow because they probably only had one cook. We tipped our server extra bc he was stuck doing everything. Service and food has gone downhill; rice was hard, lettuce looked old, and the smell of the place is like they are trying to cover up something bad. We will not be back.

Great Mexican food good prices lively atmosphere

The food here tastes authentic to me (a very white lady, who at least has been to Mexico quite a few times!). It's honestly delicious, I have never had anything not good here. Staff is friendly. Margaritas do not disappoint. The chips and salsa are on point. Particularly love the fajitas, but burritos, enchiladas, nachos, taquitos are all really yummy! It's kind of a whole in the wall vibe, but it's definitely a clean, and enjoyable, and fun atmosphere.

Try the burrito Alambre!!!🤤🤤🤤 The food is what keeps me coming back. Have grace for this mom and pop restaurant. With all that said I really like El Nopal for their food. Service isn’t bad here but there’s also never been anyone from the wait staff who stood out other than Sharron. Sometimes there’s a wait but it’s only because El Nopal gets busy. And if your food takes a while to come out just remember to have patience with the kitchen staff. As far as menus go, El Nopal has a pretty good variety of dishes to try. I’m a huge fan of anything Alambre on their menu due to the fact it will come with bacon 🥓. Chips for the salsa are better than a lot of other places I’ve been. Salsa is mild but decent. Some days it’s great but never bad. There is no bartender here so your drinks are made by your waiter. I’d suggest using that to your advantage, and tell them what you really want your mixed drink to taste like. They will accommodate.

Food was gross and unseasoned, ant the service was atrocious.

So, so disappointed. This used to be our favorite Mexican restaurant in the area, we went tonight and everything was terrible. The wait time for the food (an hour), to the quality of the food, to the server charging us for stuff he shouldn’t have, then being annoyed when I asked what things were on the bill, to the manager making up excuses. The soft taco tasted terrible, the quesadilla was overly greasy and soggy, the nopal rolls had no chicken or feta and was just filled with spinach. I am really disappointed and hate that I dropped $70 on a meal that wasn’t good and full of excuses.

Fajita nachos with steak or mushroom are my favorite in the menu, pastor tacos are also great! Delicious margaritas, they are pretty strong. Ask for Juan to be your server and tell him Hiram sent you ;)

Fantastic, exquisite, the best Mexican food in St. Louis no doubt in my mind. The owner greeted us with Grace. An amazing hospitality. She’s absolutely wonderful along with the wonderful servers. The food is exquisite infills your tastebuds with joy and praise this Mexican food is amazing.

We came in kind of late about a half an hour from closing. They were very kind to us even though we asked if they wanted to close early. Food was great as always!

This is my second time coming to this restaurant for dinner. The first time the service was horrible and I was reluctant to come again. But here I am 6 months later and I decided to give it another try.. when I get here on a Friday night it's not completely full yet. But you can see people coming in for dinner. It's just me and my son. And I order as soon as the waitress comes over . We put our order in at 6:10 p.m. at 6:40 my plate had not yet came to my table. I ordered the meal with the rice and the chicken and cheese. That's it. At that point my son is done eating his chips and cheese and I just possibly can't wait anymore. When I inquire about my food they reply that it's a Friday night and they make everything fresh. I have never waited that long for one plate of food. That I didn't even receive. So who knows how much longer I would have waited if I would have stayed. I will no longer be coming to this restaurant. And if you don't care about a long wait go in on a weekend. Because apparently they butcher their own chicken .. yes I'm Hangry and I'm headed to Taco Bell to atleast get some sort of quick "mexican fix" smh

I've been here several times, and the last three times I've been here, the dishes I ordered were awful. It's sad because the service is pretty good, but the food is bland and the dishes seem thrown together.

Thus is the second time we ate here. I ordered 3 beef tocos and Black beans with rice, my best have had hard shell Tico rice and Black beans, my meal was so cold ,the beef in the tocos were dried out and didn't resemble beef, . I told someone , the manager got new order, it was ice cold also, the waiter ignored 🙁 us total after that. We will not go back, and we will let everyone we know what a place it really is Also there booth we sat at was so small, my stomach touch the table. I 5ft 9inchs tall and only weight 180 lbs. . What a disappointment,

my husband introduced me back to el nopal back in 2013. when we moved back to saint louis, we were thrilled to continue to frequent this location. have introduced many friends and family over the years and will continue to frequent! 🖤

The space to sit in the booths are tight. Food took a little longer than average to come. They gave one basket of chips for five people. Flavor is nothing special or delicious.

Thought I would give this place a second chance. Don't bother. For food that is mediocre at best, it took 50 minutes on a Monday night for 6 tacos, 2 enchiladas, and a salad. Which we were informed after the salad came they dont actually have the ranch. But never mentioned in the abysmal 50 minute wait. Chipped plates and overcooked rice rounded out this atrocious dining experience. Chips are meh, and the salsa bland. Literally go anywhere else.

If you want great Mexican food at a reasonable price, this is it. None better in the area. Authentic & delicious!

They were very busy and food took an hour to get to our table after we ordered. I don’t hold that against them because I understand that they are busy, but it’s good to know if you expect fast food. They were great at refilling sodas tho, and Food was delicious.

It was busy when we got there after 30 minutes me and my wife got a table we had a bald 30ish male waiter he was very rude after waiting 45 minutes for our food we ate some but not all of the food we told the waiter the food was undercooked he said that I was wrong the food looked ok to him we got up I paid the bill and we left this was the worst dining out experience we have ever had in 35 years of marriage...

This was our local Mexican restaurant in the Valley Park/Manchester/Ballwin neighborhood; we've been going there since 2003 when we moved to the area. It's been enlarged and rehabbed and now has new ownership but the food and staff are still excellent and very friendly!! We love this business!

Great little hole in the wall Mexican restaurant. The chicken chimichanga is excellent next to the fajitas. The chips and salsa a great and so are the margaritas! Edit: As of recently they started charging credit card fees.

The salsa is great, the el nopal cheese dip was phenomenal and the carna asada tacos were excellent! Place was packed and service was great! Highly recommend!!

Guessing my experience was not like yours. I was excited to come try this place after visiting the taqueria next door. I had lunch fajitas and my usual failsafe for lunch. Food was sooo bland and loaded with with tomatoes unnecessarily, beans were the best thing not by much. Salsa sucked too, like most places it was lots of tomato sauce. My actual server was no delight either, and the least bit attentive, however the girl helper was Amazing! I am going to leave this one for y'all

Have not been there for 10 years because food is tasteless. Suitable for senior citizens! I met some friends reluctantly and had 2 32 oz. draft beers. Bill arrived and it was $18.42. Almost $9.00 per draft beer. Didn.t know I was going to the Ritz Carleton. My recommendation is to go elsewhere!

First visit to this restraunt and I was pleased. Moving from Texas I was gun-shy of trying Mexican food places in Missouri. Just remember people Taco Bell should not be your benchmark to compare Mexican food. I will most definitely be back. I had to add that and to say thank you for having an area where we could have a birthday dinner. Your staff is impeccable and your menu has no shortage of different things to try.

My friend and I went here recently for her birthday. This was my first time here and I loved the food (Shrimp Chimichanga) and the atmosphere.

Great food and service here every time. The burrito al pastor... amazing. Update: Still 5 stars. My wife and I just ate dinner here tonight and the food and service were still both stellar.

The flavor is phenomenal! Came here on a Sunday because our usual El Maguey Sunday lunch changed hours. Came here and dare I say it, might be my new favorite place to eat. The price is great for the amount of food you get, the staff is so friendly, and the service is great! Will definitely be coming back! I got one of their fajita entrees and may get this every time.

The margaritas are not your typical Mexican restaurant margaritas very light on the alcohol. I split a pitcher with my friend which was like four fills for me and I didn’t even feel tipsy. The food was decent but not really worth the money.

El Nopal is one of the best Mexican food restaurants in the area. The Tejana quesadilla and carnitas are two of our faves. And their salsa is to die for! We moved here from Texas and had a hard time finding Mexican that we liked. El Nopal hits the target!
