This is my go-to Mexican cuisine spot. Their birria tacos, empanadas, and burritos are my favorites!! Always fresh, very quickly made and very friendly service. This one of East Haven’s hidden gems for sure!

First time trying 2 burritos (steak and shrimp) and wow! Super Delicious! Great customer service. I was told that the food will be done in in a few minutes and if I waited 8 minutes that was too long of how fast it was done. Highly recommended

The absolute best mexican place i have ever tried to the best of my memory!!!! Wowww the birria quesadilla was so amazing and jaw dropping. The churros were really good as well

This was such a hidden gem!! Their food is always really good and fast. The ONLY negative thing I will say is that.... they had to raise their prices, so it's no longer affordable per se. 2 burritos and 2 empanadas for $42 seems a little much, in my opinion. But this is unfortunately how things are now everywhere. Other than that it's a great little place. FIY- it's a grab and go situation not a sit down place.

First time after driving by for a cple years. Got the pollo burrito with everything. First, the flavor was outstanding, you could taste poblano peppers in the sauce, which was a unique substitution from the typical verde sauce ingredients from surrounding taquerias in New Haven county. Also, the chicken, the rice, the beans, all had their own flavor that, when mixed together with each other, married them all for a very satisfying taste. The burrito as a whole was well sized. The chix to rice and beans ratio was fair for the price. I liked the substitution of cabbage instead of lettuce, which I was worried about in the beginning, The burrito was sauced well, but not sloppy or soaking wet. The tortilla held up nicely throughout the entire burrito and didn't tear or fall apart, but it was still tender and soft enough that it was easy to eat. I highly recommend trying El Poblano if you're in the area and in the mood for some Americanized-Mexican food with authentic Mexican flavor. The only thing I will say, which ultimately isn't THAT bad, is the price. It was $11 for the Chix burrito. Steak/shrimp and lengua(I think) was $13. So it's on the higher end when compared to similar spots in the area, but you get a larger portion size, delicious, and slightly unique burrito, served up fast. The woman was very pleasant and you can tell that they take pride in their food and their restaurant. The restaurant was very clean.

This place is legit. Reminds me of my mom's cooking. Had the fajita platter and it didn't disappoint. Highly recommend.

Ordered Uber Eats and it was 10/10. Food was delish, neat and presented really well for take out! There’s nothing better than trying somewhere new for take out and being shocked how good it was.

Bought 12 small tacos, nachos, 2 tostadas and 2 drinks. I spent $75! The tacos on long warf are $2.50. I’m assuming these people are charging double the price! The Al pastor meat tasted like cinnamon. The customer service wasn’t too great and place was very small. They have their industrial kitchen equipment in the entrance of the restaurant 😏 Definitely was a first and last time for me.

This is an amazing spot in New Haven. The food is always incredible, my coworkers and myself make this a regular lunch pick up during the week. The owner/workers are always pleasant to talk to. If you are in New Haven, stop by for some delicious authentic food!

$24 for two burritos, 1 chicken , 1 steak, no veggies, loaded with rice. Not worth the price in my opinion. Price did not match menu, charged me extra for using a debit card. Not very good business practice in my opinion. Decided to try again as previous experience with newer owner was not very good, quality of food is low. Will not be returning. My first review below from previous ownership. Best Mexican food in the area, hands down. Owner and staff are friendly and courteous, I alway feel welcomed when I enter. As for the food, I have tried almost everything on the menu, including authentic off menus items. Best mole and empanadas I ever had. The food is homemade by the owner, everything is fresh. It feels like mom made something special just for you. The owner is a hard working woman who deserves your business. I strongly urge you to give them a try.

Overpriced with hidden charges. Menu prices are different from what are displayed. Charges for using card. Its 2022 who has cash these days. $1 to use your debit card is insane when the prices are higher to begin with.

Omgosh..this place is literally New Havens best kept secret! It's absolutely DELICIOUS.True,authentic,FRESH Mexican food in the Annex section of NewHaven,CT. Everything is handmade..even the crunchy taco shells!! I was blown away by the taste & the amount of food I received. Especially their signature spicy hot sauce! WOWWW! After having my amazing, chicken crunchy taco lunch, I had so much energy & didnt feel weighed down or tired! It's all quality, wholesome food @ such reasonable prices! The staff is lovely & very welcoming. I'm happy I live close by, because l will be their new regular customer!! BUENO!! 🇲🇽 💚🤍❤

They have the best food. I literally went there two days in a row and the lunch I got us today was so good I wanted to go get more.... and I would have if they weren't closed. Get rice!!!! It's a mom and son who run/own this place. Everything is made fresh. Everything. They are extremely nice, I chat with them every time I go in. I eat there about 3 times a week and it would be more if I could make time.

Unfortunately the new owner isn't putting the same love into this place. Went the other day, not knowing it was a new owner, and the food and the price (OUCH) was nothing like before. Also the cleanliness wasn't the same. So disappointing.

Customer service was great, friendly service. Food cooked fresh to order. I got 3 shrimp tacos. Pick and avocado only, like I like it. Shrimp seasoned and grilled perfectly. Pricing was perfect. I will be back.

Amazing food and really nice service

I loved it when it was the previous owners. Now they have some people working with no customer service skilled. They took my order when I ordered it in Spanish and they still manage to mess up my order and charge me for their mess up! When I went back to dispute the price the lady got very rude and started screaming at me and snatch the food and the receipt out of my hand.. The food could be good and all but if you have no people skills then you shouldn’t be opening a business working with people.

Just stopped in after getting gas at the gas station next door. What a great " little hole in the wall" the food is amazing and plenty full. Would highly recommend it to anyone!

I catered a small dinner party from El Poblano last week and from my initial order to the pickup, it was such a stress free experience. She helped me decide on what to order, and it was ready exactly when she said it would....everyone loved the food choices, especially the few extras she threw in😀, highly recommend, no doubt!

Sister Campos’s cooking is THE BEST! I served with her in our church children’s Sunday school classes and she’s taught my children when I transferred to another assignment. I had no idea her food was SO GREAT! Our congregation kept talking about how amazing her food is that we finally tried it. Guys. Get some now! Even my pickiest eater (7 years old) said “This is the best taco I’ve had in my LIFE!” And so did my other children. And my HUSBAND. He eats New Haven’s best regularly but he said hands down Alecia’s Mexican food here at El Poblano is the BEST! We love her chicken quesadillas, burritos, and tacos Al Pastor. Even the beans are phenomenal. Seriously. Do yourself a favor and order from El Poblano next time you get a hankering for Mexican Food. Your taste buds will thank you. Cheers!

Very small, casual, basic (Spartan). Good value. I got a take out burrito at lunch time there today. A young hispanic woman was working, with her little son wandering around the restaurant. The burrito was good, reasonably priced, and she accommodated my request for "no rice" without any trouble. I will gladly repeat. She told me that she closes at 6 PM.
