I get the Cuban Vegan Tacos. So delicious.

First time actually eating at the restaurant. Food was delicious, I got the ropa vieja place my children pick out my plantains. I have picky eaters and they all loved the food. We all love the Mexican rice! Needless to say we had empty plates at the end. Only took after pictures, we had quesadillas and rotisserie chicken as well. Definitely recommend eating here.

I always get the large chicken tortilla soup until l figured out that they put the same amount of chicken in both sizes except they add more liquid to the large size and charge more. Not a good thing!

I ordered a power bowl through the drive thru aside of it taking forever to be ready My chicken was raw I’m super disappointed. I was on my lunch break and was not able to return and show them the food so they could see the chicken with their own eyes. I took some pics I know is hard to tell but some of the chicken has red/pink. I had to remove it from the rest of the food

The lady at the window is sweet so its not about her service. The thing is, this place never gets my order right. Not sure what is going on. Just this morning asked for a bean, potato and egg taco but got ham and egg. I do not eat pork. Sometimes I get salad at lunch and they give no dressing. And one time the completely forgot our queso and accused me of not being honest as if I'd lie over some $3-$5 cheese. I promised myself to not go back after that accusation but gave them another chance. I will not again.

I like Taco Tuesday when you get 3 tacos for one good price, regardless of what taco you choose. Unfortunately I only get the cheapest taco, called the Veggie Taco, so I don’t save that much. But I like the tacos and get them to go, and warm them up at home. But the El Rey on 99 has the best music, and they pump up the volume there, unlike other locations.

Great grilled chicken salad, very fresh ingredients. A must have in summer months.

Giant Burrito - Mexicana style: choice of fajita meat with Mexican rice, lettuce, tomatoes, guacamole, sour cream, charro beans & shredded cheese, $14.30 ✅ Dine in seating + a drive through window ✅ Decent menu options 🤔 I asked for chicken and they gave me beef 🥩 😑 🤔 There was not a lot of meat in the burrito 🌯 🤔 The cashier looked disappointed I didn’t give them a tip for an order I placed at the drive through window. 🤔I’m not sure if I’d recommend or return to this location. 🤔 I tried this place today because I was in the area shopping at neighboring stores. At the time of posting, I visited here once on Saturday June 29th at 3:50 pm

All the food here is super fresh and tasty. I have tried so many different items over the years and everything has been great 👍 I particularly enjoy the Cuban tacos with the black beans and plantain- my favorite now!

Always fresh, delicious and even though it is “fast” the food is healthy and priced well.

Prices here are astonishingly high for fast food, which you would assume would go towards paying employees a livable wage. Yet, I am asked to tip in the drive thru. I have no issue with tipping employees who provide a service to me, like waiters and delivery drivers, but tipping in a drive thru is ridiculous. It would at least feel worth it if I got speedy and friendly service, but they are consistently slow and blasé. The food and the service aren’t good enough to justify these new, higher prices or the gall to request a tip in a drive thru.

My family and I love this place for a quick bite to eat.

This used to be a staple in my family's restaurant picks, but lately, it's become ridiculously expensive. Chuey's , which is a "sit down" restaurant in the same shopping strip, is CHEAPER though the quality of the food and service is comparable. For our family of 4 to order food, JUST FOOD, NO DRINKS, NO TIP, easily $70!! That's just ridiculous for nachos and 3 burritos. Not too long ago it was about $50 which I thought was expensive but worth it...but it's just not worth it any more. Replacing them with Pollo Loco down the street unfortunately. Will reconsider if their prices are dropped. Google needs to add an extra $ sign to the description.

I was excited to see an EL Rey near me, but this location was not very good. The beans tasted like canned pinto beans with hardly any flavor and were overpriced. If they tasted great, I would gladly pay their prices again. I won't be going back. I hate wasting money on food that isn't good.

This is the first time I have ate here and I was shocked that some of the kitchen staff would make ugly remarks about gay people This ruined a family night out for my kids and i , if the they are going to talk derogatory about customers who are lesbian gay trans in Spanish at that , make sure your customers don't understand Spanish ,this is unacceptable and makes the company look bad. I know Never to eat at this location with family or friends . I don't want nothing free all I want is whom ever is over this store to talk to their kitchen crew and all personnel because this isn't right by any means and it's discrimination. What made it worse is I am gay and to over hear these things left a bad taste in my mouth with el ray . The food was okay but I know I won't be back to this location.

Their food is delicious and fresh. My favorite dish is the Carne Asada plate and their tortilla soup.

I have never seen a restaurant go up in prices as much as I have at el Rey! The food is good but they literally raise their prices every couple of months which is so frustrating in this economy! People want to enjoy food at an affordable rate like they had a couple years ago! The quality and portions only get smaller and the prices just keep going up!

I was SHOCKED when I went into this restaurant, having visited this same location for better than 10 years now. Bottom line, customers have to contend with the taste of food versus shrink flation and hyper price increases. This is highly evident as El Ray now has BOTH! I was shocked when I saw the nocho’s now cost a few pennies under $15. We ordered the nocho’s any way and a chips and salsa plate. The chips and salsa came with a plate of 40 chips and two small salsa cups for $1.78. The nachos came to us on the same plate size with ONLY the very top 8 chips covered with some fixings. I estimate of the possible 40 chips on the nachos plate, only 8 of them had any stuff on them. I looked at both the chips and salsa plate $1.78 and the nacho’s plate $14.80 and wondered why I would ever in a million year accept this type of shrink-flation AND hyper price increases. I returned the nachos plate and informed the manager that this was completely unacceptable to have both hyper inflated prices AND shrink-flation at the same time. I will no longer eat at El Ray preferring to now just go to a genuine Mexican restaurant where nachos look and taste just like nachos and cost a few bucks less than El Rays. It is a REAL shame that El Rays has pivoted to have both shrink-flation AND hyper price increases.

I’ve been ordering the Cuban Tacos for years from this location, however my last two orders of Cuban Tacos have been extremely salty. Please taste test the meat before serving! All cooks should do this before serving their meat. They are literally over seasoning everything!

Recommend chicken tortilla soup and grilled chicken salad.

Only giving a 1 star as their food is good but the tips from the tip jar do not go to the employees. The management/owner keeps it. Always give the employees the tip directly!

So I’ve heard about the out of hand tipping culture. But this is my first visit El Rey. The menu seems amazing. I went through the drive-through and was asked to leave a tip. I was taking aback but I didn’t leave a tip, and when she handed me my food and picked up the receipt, she looked at the tip line right away. She immediately turned to tell others, in Spanish, that I didn’t leave a tip. I just drove away. My main thought is just don’t do this. It’s ridiculous to even ask for a tip at a drive-through. You don’t see McDonald’s asking for a tip at the drive-through. And it’s voluntary to tip, but so is the reaction to my decision. That woman’s displeasure should not not fall with me, if she is not being paid a liable wage. El Rey, by requesting tips at the drive-through, it in insinuates, or indicates that you are not paying your employees properly. No one served me. No one came to my table, refilled a drink, asked me what I wanted to order while having discussions about the menu items or gave recommendations. None of that occurred. But, conversely, I’m also assuming that the lady I’m interacting with, at the drive-through is actually being paid a decent hourly wage. If she is somehow relying on drive-through tips, then I’m greatly concerned.

I think the workers here forgot that there are people at the drive-through.

I think I ate at this restaurant like 5 times or more. I have a question why all the employees never greet anyone with a smile?? They all look mad … I can compare them with Zara employees why to be like that?? They are not welcoming and not friendly at all.

All these years I never stopped by- but when I finally did, I loved the vibe and the food! A lot of great options on the menu and when you walk inside- it’s not what I expected based on all the shops around it.

Got a beef torta an it was cold, mostly peppers an onions. This place has been consistently trash since covid

My favorite place for breakfast tacos. And lunch tacos! Love the steak one and shrimp one. I will say that my favorite drink is the cantaloupe drink. It is delicious. I recommend to try the fajitas as well and the tortas.

Best Cuban tacos, friendly service, and casual dining. Fish tacos are delicious with a whole talapia filet for $3.50 each. Cuban tacos are also $3.50, each made with fajita and plantains. Salads are large and fresh. Highly recommend!

I went there to get food early in the morning right when they open and they say they open at 7:00. I was there at 7:10. Still not open. Waited 10 more minutes at the drive-thru and they said they wouldn't be open for another 45 minutes through the intercom so I left because I had to pick somebody up and I was trying to get breakfast for them before I did

Horrible service. Ordered at drive through, and was told to park in the designated area and they would bring my order out. 15 min later had to walk inside looking for my order. They acted as they don’t know anything about it. One employee finally found it and handed me a bag of cold food. No apologies at any point.

Friendly staff, quick service, excellent, authentic food.

The food did not smell fresh. Got the shrimp tacos and they smelled so fishy it made me nauseated and feel trapped in my own car until I was able to pull over and get rid of it. Couldn't eat it. Wasted money. We did try eating the chicken didn't taste fresh, so we had to share a single order of fajitas and just use the beans only. We were hungry then, but today I'm questioning my decision to eat the restaurant's food at all. Definitely not as reliable as the Washington location.

They were off their game tonight. Took over 20 minutes for them to take my order when there was no one else in line. The fountain drink machine wasn't working, so I had water out of the faucet. Food was ok.

I initially placed an order for breakfast, but couldn’t make it to pick it up in time before breakfast was over. Then when I finally get there, I tell them. Hey . W I be able to still get my four tacos but I do know that it’s past breakfast time they said yeah it took 20 minutes for them to make four tacos and people are coming in and out getting their to go orders as well as their dining orders way before I did and I placed my order at 11 AM the manager didn’t seem to be accommodating, but his team and and himself we’re just not not helpful. So I proceeded to ask for a refund after waiting 20 minutes in the lobby and he said oh your order is almost ready and then I just proceeded to say I just want my refund so I can please go in that was an issue. I’ll never come back here again with the service I received today.

At every location we've been to, the food is always delicious and fresh. One item of personal preference is that I like my grilled veggies cooked a little more than what I got this time. The people here seem like a great team and the guy that took our order and served us most was absolutely outstanding! He was super friendly, personable and helpful, like working here is genuinely his favorite thing to do. I wish I had gotten his name but I didn't. The restaurant is also very clean.. I love the grilled veggies, plantains and Ropa Viejo tacos. My husband got the new Torta and enjoyed it very much.

In my opinion, for the cuban sandwich, it is not even close to the real thing .burrito beef only rice and black beans found 3 pieces of beef about 1/4 inch in size.

They made a mistake with my order, I had to wait to long for my food and they did not have white rice. Bad experience this time.

If I can give this place zero stars, I would! I loved coming here and invited my friend. It was her 1st time and unfortunately she had a bad experience. While we were in the middle of eating, we were asked to move tables so that another group of people could be accommodated. We said yes, and before we could grab our food and move it, one of the workers just grabbed our food along with the dirty napkins on the table and threw it on top of our our food! As if having us move while we’re eating wasn’t bad enough! They lost a customer!

So we chose Beef Fajita Taco, Cuban Taco (Beef Fajita with Black Beans) and Ropa Vieja Taco (Shredded Beef). A variety of tacos provide different flavors. To be honest, this is the best Cuban Mexican Restaurant that I have ever tried in Houston. The food portion was just perfect for one. The food was hot, fresh, and delicious.
