I been eating this roast beef hoagie for 35 years. It's still the best

I was looking for a good roast beef sandwich in Dothan. I asked a few friends and they recommended this place. Everyone called it “Italian Express” and from some of the menu, I see why. Anyway, I ordered the roast beef sandwich, fries with gravy and an iced tea. It was exactly what I was wanting. I could have eaten a second sandwich with no problem. The nice lady who waited on me was super sweet and it didn’t take long for her to bring me my food. I will definitely go back. …probably next week when I’m back down there.

This place has staff that is so nice and welcoming. The food is top tier! Salads are fresh,make sure you get 2 ranches ( so good). It amazes me but their Spaghetti is delicious, just like it was made at home. They close early so font miss out, OH YEA! You can call your food in annnnd they have drive thru for it.Yall stop here and enjoy!

We ordered the Roast Beef plate and a chicken finger plate. Both were awesome. Fresh. The gravy on the roast beef was awesome. Friendly service and cashier's are very knowledgeable. Worth every penny!

I’m not a picky eater, but this was not something I’d recommend (except to avoid). We got the roast beef because of the great reviews. Asked for no gravy on sandwiches, small amount on the side. Got gravy on sandwiches and extra on the side. Pointed out to the waitress, who only commented happily that we’d learn or teach them. Fries were good. Roast beef almost as good as Arby’s if you could eliminate the nasty gravy. $30 for 2 of us for not great food. Service was friendly, but not satisfactory. Fries were good, but nothing was extraordinary; we won’t be back.

I loved the food and service here, the red headed girl was so polite, I even got her name ,and my server was amazing, everyone there is so nice and the food was absolutely amazing, I will definitely eat here any chance I get, I highly recommend the chicken tenders with their ranch

For years I have eat here and it's always the same.... FABULOUS !! No matter what you get it's Good!! I've tried the ham hoagie,,lasagna , fried chicken , pizza , taco salad just to name a few and it's ALWAYS good. Hats off !!! 5 ⭐

Ordered takeout and within 10 minutes I picked it up. We had Italian Beef sandwiches with fries and gravy on the side. We ate at Al’s in Chicago two weeks ago and this sandwich was better. The bun was soft, the gravy was thick and the meat was just salty enough. The fries were just the typical frozen crinkle fries, nothing special. The folks at the window were very nice. If you are passing through Dothan, give this place a try.

I’ve got Covid so I can’t go anywhere. I got a friend to go to here and get me a couple dinners. Let’s just say never order the fried chicken. Disgusting. The chicken looks like brown meat instead of white. It was 80% crust. Stick with Italian dishes.

This is a local favorite, and the crowd shows it. The food is always good and the staff are wonderful people. The place is a little dated, but don't let it fool you. It's definitely what's inside that counts. Come early or wait cause they tend to get busy during lunchtime.

It is friday april the twenty eighth two thousand and 23 I just left this restaurant out on a beef chip salad. it was awful 1st of all. I order extra ranch Dressing which was fifty cents That I did not receive.. I had some kind of white artifical cheese. I had a thimble full of artificial bacon. A wedge of tomato that was sliced in 2 parts with red 2 onion red rings . 5 flight Olive sliced and and a little bitty cup of roast. O yea 3 cucumber slices. This was the 3rd time with bad food. Well I guess this is my last draw. I want be back. And this suppose to be a chef salad.

Love the staff... 2-7-23, Lasagna was superb! Thank You Mrs. Francis for the homemade peanut butter cake! Will be back next Tuesday.

I saw a sign that said founded in 86, and that’s the last time any update was made. This place is a complete dive, and I mean that in the best sense. The interior isn’t luxurious or modern. The menu is very limited, but I’ve eaten at hawker centre stalls, that only serve one thing but still have Michelin stars. I had a roast beef with fries. The brown gravy is delicious and they toasted the roll so well the sauce didn’t make the bread turn to mush. Pulling apart the sandwich an arms length of cheese stretched out, and this was still after the 10 min drive back to my office. I will have to be back for the other sarnies and chicken. So good!

Everything that I have had to eat there was good. Everyone is always friendly and courteous and they are always busy.

The staff may come off rude at times but please understand, this place is so busy they don't have time for small talk. I've had multiple different items from the menu and I have never had a bad experience. Their fried chicken is seasoned to perfection!!

This place is always a hit with our family. They have a wide variety of choices. The food it always fresh, but sometimes they get in a hurry and miss something. But for the most part always wonderful.

If love good soul food then you really need to hit this place up! It's small and inconspicuous, but it makes it up in great service, great people, and most of all, great food! Walk in or call ahead and enjoy.

I had their chicken fingers... they were delicious! Just the right amount of breading - you actually got way more chicken than breading. The lasagna and garlic bread looked fantastic... that's what I'm ordering next time!

I have been eating here on and off for 35 or so years. It used to be located up by the hospital. They have wonderful Italian food Pizza, Spaghetti, etc., Fried chicken, and the most delicious hoagies of which my favorite is the roast beef and gravy. This is not a complete list but a good sample of what they have. I don't think that you can go wrong by giving them a visit.

Stopped by here just before heading back to Birmingham. By far the best and friendliest people I have ever encountered. The food was absolutley phenomenal as well and came in large enough portions to fill me up, and I'm a large guy so I eat a lot. But the people working at this small place were absolutley wonderful the entire time I was there. Will definitely be making another stop in to eat the next time I'm in Dothan.

Express, formerly know as Italian Express, is a wonderful family owned restaurant that is sort of a hidden gem. The food is great and the service is excellent. I have yet to try something that wasn’t good enough to recommend, but my favorite is the Roast Beef Hoagie with the gravy on the side. The gravy can be a bit messy when it is on the sandwich. Give it a try!

Delicious food and awesome people working there! You order at the counter, get your drinks and salad and they take care of the rest. I had the adult tenders plate, my sons had grilled cheese and a chicken tenders kid meal and loved it. The tea is perfect and the refills keep coming. Y'all keep rocking it and we'll be back! ♥

Restaurant IS small, it IS busy, parking lot IS awful... But it is 100% worth it. Best chicken tenders in town if you ask me. Stellar sweet tea, smt amazing service. Super quick and friendly. Only thing that could make it better is if I could have it delivered to me, but then I would probably it it too much!

Back in the area after a 15 year hiatus. Been hitting up all the places I remember from my childhood, and Express has been the only one that has met and exceeded my expectations. The roast beef is amazing. Just make sure you get a side of gravy to go with the fries.
