Always a great experience here. The chocolate milk and cookies has been my favorite but after having the chocolate peanut butter today I think that’s my new favorite.

Freaking awesome honeycomb toffee custard ice cream and yummy chocolate chip cookie. I had already eaten lunch so I didn't get the fries but we'll have to come back because a fries and ice cream joint is genius.

Covered outdoor dining, delightfully delicious ice cream. The fries are good too, but we usually just go for the scoops. I got the Astoria Fog and it might be my new favorite.

My family stopped by for an ice cream treat on the 16th of September. My husband and I decided on the ice cream nachos, it looked interesting and the description was appealing. However when she served the ice cream to us the soft serve in the middle which was the main portion of the nachos was like melted mud. It was grainy and the flavor was not all that appealing. The whipped cream that was supposed to be topping the nachos look like it had been sitting in the sun for hours and had melted into white goo. Overall the experience was definitely not worth the purchase.

It is such a shame that freed and scoop doesn’t do what they originally did and provided the fries and ice cream. It was such an awesome thing but now they don’t do it anymore. The other thing that’s a shame is that they don’t do tastings every ice cream company in the universe does tastings except for free and scoop. And it’s counterintuitive here because they have unique flavors so how is someone supposed to know what the flavors are if they don’t taste them first we would come here much more often and send a ton of additional business except for that one thing. They started it during Covid which is understandable. Now it’s time to go back to real ice cream shop service. If they want to keep it then restrict it to times when the lines are long. I was the only one there and they wouldn’t allow tastings. There are 4-5 flavors I would likely have purchased and my bill would have at least tripled, but now the only time I will go there is where there isn’t anyplace else. Zero stars for their policy and that they no longer do what their namesake is and provide frites with a scoop. Boooooo.

French fries weak and not worthy of Belgian mark. ""Belgian"" frietsauce was peppery and I have never tasted before?

This place was ok, the service was good. I wish there was more too choose from milkshakes maybe. They did have vanilla and chocolate non-day ice cream this is appreciated since I have a medical condition

A server at another restaurant suggested this place to us when she overheard us talking about getting some ice cream for dessert. Thank you so much for the recommendation! This place has homemade ice cream with incredible combinations and flavors that change frequently. It is the perfect texture, perfect balance of flavor. They also serve frites (fries) and sometimes nothing hits the spot like some fries and ice cold dairy. The servers were so very helpful and patient in explaining all the different options with split cups and split scoops and flights so we were able to try many different flavors! My favorite currently is the coffee and cardamom.

Great location. The Belgian fries were to die for!Charging for dipping sauce on a $10 order of fries is simply not right however. Two of the ice cream flavors were terrific. The Thai iced tea/chai was disappointing. Not having a bathroom of any kind is an issue. I'm pretty sure both the US & Oregon Health Departments requires a restroom if food is prepared/served?!

The ice-cream I had was mint chip it was gritty and tasted like dry mint leaves. The coffee flavored was bitter also. They should offer samples.

Very tasty ice cream, best in a waffle. You can sit in front of it well and protected from the wind.

Fast service, great fries, and the ice cream was solid too. I tried a half flight (six minutes scoops) of the flavors that I thought looked the best. They didn’t disappoint. Chef’s Choice, cinnamon, Hokey Pokey, Golden Milk, chocolate cookies and milk, and the espresso. Definitely a good summer spot.

Absolutely delicious! While I'm sure the traditional flavors are amazing, we couldn't resist the fun ones! Love me a good Lindon Fog and they turned it in to a fantastic ice cream! The kettle corn was also good! Buttery and sweet! Forgot the lactaid? No sweat, they have a you covered with a gumball machine! Service was fast (be forewarned no tasting), and friendly! Location is perfect to grab a cone and explore the waterfront!

The spicy honey fries (thankfully not too spicy) were possibly the best fries I’ve ever eaten. The sweet corn ice cream was great too. My only complaint is that they are served separately—I had to finish the ice cream long before the fries came out. They would have been great together. Still five stars.

They don't give samples so I ended up randomly ordering and it was the worst mango ice cream. Give customers at least 2 samples so we can order something that we can actually enjoy!

I live in southern Europe and even the tiniest of gelaterias offer a sample (within reason) to ensure the customer is not disappointed and to actually move the line faster (since people can make up their mind faster following their taste buds) so I don't buy any of the logic of No Samples at this place, which mostly just reads as "we are cheap and scrupoulous". I bought a $4 scoop of bubblegum flavor for my 4 year old by color alone (she likes pink colored ice cream) and she hated it from the first lick. So after tears, I had to buy a new $4 cone of a different flavor and hope for the best ... My brother needed a Lactaid from their machine but it was broken and not accepting his quarter. Any other business would have just given him one for free, but again this place is in it for the money, apparently, and shrugged their shoulders. Lastly, do NOT order the affogato. It is a large cup of coffee with a tiny scoop of ice cream in it, when it should be the other way around, with espresso. That being said, the Lavender ice cream is highly recommended.

Most of the flavors that I have tried are really good! Do yourself a favor and get the chocolate milk and cookies. It's so good! Their krumkake cones are delicious, especially the chocolate one--very worth getting. However, this place does not do samples! Have you ever heard of an ice cream place not offering samples?! Especially, with how friendly and kind they are at places like Salt and Straw, it was pretty off putting to not allow samples and they seemed a little rude about it. My mom got their licorice ice cream and normally loves licorice but it wasn't super flavorful and she was disappointed as she wouldn't have gotten it if she had been allowed to have sample.

It's been over a week since my vacation ended and I am still thinking about Frite and Scoop. The first impression was customer service. All three ladies were so nice and friendly. Now the food was delicious! We tried the two honeycomb ice creams and got frites with a few different sauces. The pesto was my absolute favorite. You won't be disappointed with a stop here.

They had a nice selection of unique ice cream flavors. Their waffle bowl (krumkake) was amazing! I had the a scoop of Hokey Pokey and a scoop of butter pecan in their waffle bowl. It was so rich and creamy!

Loved their ice cream. Raspberry Sour cream was the best. Earl Gray was pretty good and not too sweet. The Vanila one was my least favorite, not a big fan of custard style. But others loved it. There are no free samples, but all of the flavors we tried were great.

Frite and scoop has great ice cream and yummy fries but honestly feel a little skimpy. They don’t offer samples which is fine but the portions are small and kinda expensive. We got a medium but it looked like it could have just paid for the small cup and got the same amount. Also it feels off to pay $6 for small fries but if you want them to make it seasoned you have to pay $2 extra and then .75 for ketchup.

No trip to Astoria is complete without the sweet/savory combo of ice cream and fries at this little shop. Everyone who steps through their door is greated with a friendly face, kind words, and delicious treats. We have waited in line during peak summer hours as well as walked right up to the counter mid-week on a rainy day, the quality of their product and customer service never fail to impress. I rarely deviate from the Hokey-Pokey, but my spouse often tries their seasonal flavors and is always happy. Definitely worth it.

Have you ever attempted to support a local business only to be met with rudeness and hostility? It's a real shame because the shop is conveniently located within walking distance from my home. However, it has become quite evident that they do not take kindly to certain people. Initially, I gave them the benefit of the doubt, but on my last visit, I realized that their behavior was simply unacceptable. During my last visit, I walked into the shop with a smile and greeted the owner behind the counter. However, when I made my way to a freezer chest on the back wall (the freezer chest was not cordoned off). It was an honest mistake, and I didn't touch anything except for the front door and the counter when paying. Despite my apologies, it was evident that I had upset the owner immensely. I will never return to that shop again. It's obvious they don't need or want my business, given the seasonal tourism in the area and the lack of competition for an ice cream shop in Astoria. Over the years, I have tried five different flavors from this place, but none of them tasted good. The other review said it best it was "memorably regrettable."

Good ice cream, but the no samples policy is really lame. There was a flavor that sounded good but also was unusual. I don't mind paying 4.50 for a small scoop of ice cream, but with unusual flavor pairings Id like to sample it before I potentially waste that money on a flavor that doesn't suit my taste buds. Id understand a one sample policy, but zero samples is a bit odd.

They claim to sell Belgian-style fries. Far from true! My family and I, being native Belgians who relocated to beautiful Oregon quite some time ago, we miss our native fries dearly and are drawn to statements like Frite & Scoop's. Heavily overpriced and not worth it! We've gone and tried the fries now several times to really give it a chance, but always leave disappointed.

So stoked to find this cute hidden gem while walking along the piers. Quite a extended list of fry flavors, dipping sauces, texture of fries was perfection and the honey ice cream was mouthwatering!

Unique varieties of ice cream flavors. Decent price. Service was pretty quick. Macarons were good as well. Could get a bit crowded on a warm day. Limited seating outside. Parking could get tricky on a busy day.

There’s truly no better combination of flavors than the sweetness of chocolate ice cream and the saltiness of perfectly crispy fries. Growing up in the 90s meant many a trip to Wendy’s for fries and a frosty. Now imagine that, but 100x better. I almost feel like writing too much will give away how amazing this place is, and you should really go and experience it for yourself. A trip to Astoria is not complete without a visit to Frite & Scoop!!!🤩☺🌟 ( And today's visit left us quite satisfied as usual 😛). Hokey Pokey is still our favorite of the many unique, house made flavors, but our group of 10+ family members sampled several of the ice cream flavors, and none disappointed. The frites were also as wonderful as always!😍 Our service today was 2nd to none!😁👍🌟. The owner even came out to turn on a propane heater for us and to deliver our hot and tasty fries! Great job you guys!👍😄👏 Our next trip to Frite & Scoop can't come soon enough.

We accidentally discovered the most amazing ice cream several years ago. Every time we pass through we try to get the Hokey Pokey ice cream. I like it so much I can't bring myself to try the other flavors.

Enjoyed the Hokey Pokey ice cream in a gluten free sugar cone. At this visit both gluten free sugar cones and gluten free cake cones were available. The ice cream had a creamy mild toffee flavor. Cold water was available inside which was a nice touch after the rich dessert.

Yum! The mint ice cream tasted like it was flavored with mint from our garden.

It's a nice spot to grab something sweet in downtown Astoria.

Cannot say enough positive things about this little shop. Their custard flavors are amazing, there is definitely something for everyone. The employees were wonderful and so kind and playful with my young kids. We live south of Portland and there were times (before kids) that we would drive an hour and a half just for thier custard. It's the best I have had in the Northwest!

Had to come back because husband was craving fries with garlic oil and Belgium Sauce. Ended up with fries and phenomenal pineapple sorbet that was vegan! Amazing service.

It is always a fun to taste different flavors at “Frite & Scoop”. Never disappointed.

The astoria grey ice cream was out standing. Not really seeing what makes the frys Belgium frys they were just like normal fries the Thai chili sauce was good so was the pickle sauce. At $10 for a basket of plain fries I think I will stick to the ice cream only next time.

If you’re Irish and you’re missing proper chips, this is the place to go. It’s so hard to find nice chips in America, we’ve lived here for 20 years and these are the best we’ve had. We come here as often as possible. Their ice cream is divine, handmade and gorgeous flavours 🤩 run don’t walk!!!

A friend of mine in Indiana recommended Frite and Scoop - it says something right there that their ice cream was still on her mind even after such a big move! I'm staying in Portland, but I wanted to do something special with my dog for her 18th birthday. She loves ice cream, so we headed to Fort Stevens for a hike, then to Frite and Scoop. My pup got a special gourmet doggy ice cream, and I got the Astoria Fog and the Hokey Pokey. It was seriously the best ice cream I've ever had, and I've had ice cream in nearly ever state and dozens of countries. Y'all, I'm not even joking. It's got a sort of whipped texture that makes it light and fluffy, and the flavors are unique but absolutely amazing. The Hokey Pokey was so good I went back and got more, and the Astoria Fog was almost exactly as delicious. My dog clearly loved her treat too. She licked the container clean, then kept returning to it in hopes that more would appear! I'm seriously considering make that 2 hour drive again just to try another flavor. If you're in Astoria, don't even consider missing out. And if you're not in Astoria, isn't it time for a road trip?

Zero sample policy is terrible one. During Taylor Swift weekend they had all flavors labeled with songs names. We chose the second one on the list that sounded great - 'spicy vanilla something' I asked for sample, they said no. I asked is it good, they said 'oh yes'. Well apperantly spicy ice cream means hot ice cream. Like.. Hot hot. We trow it in the garbage. I went inside to grab water and told them that this ice cream is hot and they have to warn ppl about it. The girl just gave me a teen ha-ha. Oh well. Bad review from me then.

Great ice cream if you find a flavor you might like…. No samples for an eclectic group of flavors can be risky. Price of a double scoop waffle cone $9+ and the scoops are small. Service was good and the folks were friendly.

Have literally never been to an ice cream shop that doesn't allow samples. Especially when there are uncommon flavors, it is bonkers to me that there are no samples -- even if samples cost 10 cents a sample or something. I ended up going for " Golden Milk" and then was super disappointed. If I had been able to try the options available, I would have been able to choose something I liked more. I don't want an entire flight of ice cream in order to try more than one flavor. I don't want to be stuck with something I don't really like. I want just one scoop of a flavor that I know I like. Staff was very polite and service was quick.

We take the trip from our home in Portland to Astoria for ice cream from Frite & Scoop. Tasty treats! The unique combination of ingredients create delicious French custard style ice cream. It's all made by scratch, the hard work and time make the difference. All the effort produces a high quality ice cream that's worth the price.

They are good fries, and probably double-fried, but not proper frites. They should be more golden, much less salty. First clue: our order was going to come out in 5 minutes.

Sign inside says they don’t do samples because of rising costs but I’m pretty sure it’s because once you tried the ice cream you’d find it’s flavorless. Just weirdly no flavor whatsoever. Service was friendly and quick .

I've never had the frite, but I've had plenty of scoops!! Delicious, unique and experimental, and super local. My first experience was London Fog (earl grey and custard) and it is still my favorite. You won't be disappointed in any of them and it will be hard to stop!

We visited on a Sunday mid day. Had a cone and fries with three sauces. I liked the Thia sauce the best.

Huge disappointment for all the hype. Ice cream wasn’t as good as expected but the staff was so incompetent they found a way to take it from just forgettable to memorably regrettable. If you’re going to charge that much you should really try to listen when people order. Or pay attention at all. After specifically asking for 3 distinct and separate orders I was handed a bowl 2 sizes bigger with all the flavors slopped in together, mixed and smeared together. London Fog, Hokey Pokey, and Mint Oreo are unique enough flavors but I would NEVER, NEVER, ever mix them. You couldn’t get me high enough to ever enjoy that stoner sundae. I would have refused the order if they hadn’t rung me up before serving me. Tasted awful and I threw it away after a few bites. $9+ tip for that is insulting. Reminder to never tip till after you make sure the staff properly executes your order. If you have some policy of combining multiple scoops to save on paper waste, TELL PEOPLE BEFORE YOU DO IT! If not, don’t combine antagonistic flavors in a way that ruins the taste completely. And try listening a bit more carefully.

Great little place! We were traveling and looking for a place that would work for our son's peanut allergy. They responded to my email very quickly letting us know their current allergen situation and my son was able to have his first ice cream in a shop! Thank you for a great family memory to end our vacation <3

I ordered a single scoop of the Hokey Pokey and I enjoyed my ice cream, however my partner ordered Mint Choclate chip and said the flavor was off. Meanwhile my 7 yr old ordered the Bubblegum flavor and took two bites and refused to eat it, said it tasted "weird". Both my partner and I tried the Bubblegum and it indeed had a weird flavor, a very strong taste of chemicals. Unfortunately we will not be returning to this establishment.

Thanks for the truly great ice cream! Much better than Salt & Straw... Not overly sweet, perfectly creamy, and well balanced. The selection of flavor is also original without being downright weird. The Earl Grey one was a highlight. Only downside for me was the food coloring (I am not crazy about green-colored mint chip ice cream).

Home made Ice Cream is so yummy. I love the golden milk/turmeric ice cream. Located right on the river walk, so you can walk off the ice cream after you eat it, which is convenient. Beautiful views of the river--they are located on the river.

Probably the best ice cream within an hour or two of Portland. Their Chef's Choice is a fantastic, genius combination of flavors (though I do wish they had a gluten-free variation minus the malt), their Salted Caramel is better than Salt & Straw's, if not quite up to the standard set by Molly Moon's, and has gone to support LGBTQIA+ community causes, and their Sweet Corn Blueberry is a glorious, custardy treat that taste much better than its description would have you believe. Their fries may seem like an odd pairing with their specialty ice creams, but they are wonderful- while I have not gone so far as to combine the two and dip fries in ice cream, many other patrons have and tend to review it highly. Beautiful riverside/seaside (it's Astoria and often hard to tell between the two) setting as well. Love this place!

You know when you have an experience that’s like “HOW HAVE I LIVED WITHOUT THIS FOR MY ENTIRE LIFE” that is what Astoria Fog ice cream is like.

I got the chef's choice flavor of icecream. It was malted sweet cream with blackberry curd and Carmel. It was incredibly delicious. It was satisfying in the way that eating that one food you have been craving all day is satisfying.
