Visiting Chicago from Austin, a friend who works in the food industry in Chicago recommended this restaurant. Excellent menu, excellent food and great service. Bit of a hike for us, staying downtown, but definitely worth it and more.

Enjoyed a birthday dinner here with my parents and my husband. It was wonderful! We've been wanting to go here for a while but never think to make a reservation ahead of time and can't just walk in. We easily made a reservation a day ahead of time and were quickly seated out on the patio which was really nice! It's fully enclosed but still gave the ambiance of being outside. We orders the ricotta and meatballs on the appetizer menu and everyone's entrees (parpadelle, ravioli, chicken, salmon and spaghetti) were excellent. We skipped dessert because we had dessert at home, but I'm sure it would have been great. I got an Old Fashioned and found it a smidge too sweet, but overall it was good. Our waiter was great, very attentive without being too much. Service was quick and the tables were cleared quickly as well. 9/10 only because I want to try more of their food but IT'S REALLY GOOD!

Every single dish was delicious, and the servers and host were incredibly friendly!

For atmosphere, it’s nice inside but you might get stuck at a table where you’re sitting very close to other people. We sat at the bar, which I wouldn’t recommend if the place looks busy. The bar tender has to make everyone’s drinks, and then also wait on you, so it can slow down your service. We started out with whipped ricotta, which was good. Sweet and creamy cheese on nice toasted bread. The half chicken was great. The polenta, mushroom, fried and baked chicken all went together. If the chicken was a little juicer it would have been perfect. The Braised Short Rib was very good. Savory, and small. Normally I’m not a fan of corn but it tasted good with the meal. It’s a small portion, without filling sides. Keep that in mind if you are really hungry. For dessert we got Semifreddo, which was not good. It sounded like it would be like a cheese cake. But, it just tasted like a cold block of goat cheese with hard cake flake. And the strawberry sauce was almost too sweet.

Original review: Amazing food with amazing service. Updated review: We went there with friends on Sunday evening and everything was amazing. The staff was all very welcoming and friendly. Our server was wonderful and very knowledgeable. One of us has celiac and the server spent the time to go through the menu and share the items that were gluten free and which could be made so with a few changes. The food was incredibly delicious. The menu is small but the items on the menu are great for all tastes and the lack of a huge menu reflects in the quality and elevated taste profiles they offer. This is a great date night place or a great way to impress friends. A must try!

Back patio was beautiful and romantic. Staff were warm, welcoming, and knowledgeable. We felt taken care of and enjoyed our server, Demetrius, who was a sweetie pie. My Millennials, Def bring your parents here to make them feel special

This was our first time at Gather, and overall, the food was quite good. Our favorites were the shareables, especially crispy cauliflower and Brussels sprouts. It was clear that the kitchen is quite small for the restaurant's capacity, which affected the service (nothing that the server could have improved, so it's no reflection on them). But our greatest disappointment —and to be fair, this is not just this restaurant's problem—was how loud it was. We sat outside on the patio. The tables were too close to each other, and there were no soft surfaces to absorb any of the noise. The front of the restaurant seemed to have the same problem as well. After a while, any joy from good food just disappears, and you can't wait to get out. This may work for the restaurant's bottom line because people will not stay too long, and that may help with turnover, but we won't be back. It's time for restaurants to start designing their spaces to minimize noise and prioritize an enjoyable dining experience or risk losing customers.

One of my new favorite restaurants. The menu has a great variety of flavors and we enjoyed every plate. Went with my parents that were visiting from Scottsdale and they were super impressed.

Went here recently with my spouse. Our server, Connor was fantastic! He was helpful in answering our questions on the menu and had a friendly demeanor. We ordered the cauliflower dish, the tofu dish, and a few non alcoholic "refreshers." We loved our drinks and the cauliflower dish was excellent! I would definitely come back and dine again

Our family of five ate here for the first time last week. We were pleasantly surprised by the great food, great service, good beverages, and good atmosphere. The big people enjoyed the Fried Chicken family style special with collards, and the little people enjoy the kids menu. Creative and comfy.

My wife and have been customers of Gather since they opened their doors 13(?)yrs ago. When they opened, their plan was to hold back tables for regulars. Demand for their food quickly outpaced their limited seats during peak times. We still try to pull the neighborhood card, but it seldom works. That’s ok, we’re so lucky to have such a great restaurant in our neighborhood. Get the tartare…as good as it gets.

I decided to dine here by myself after I received a raving review from a fellow doctor I work with. I've actually never experienced Lincoln Square but found Gather to be seated in such a cute and quaint community. Thankfully I was able to park pretty close and was seated right away. I started with the ricotta and bread. It was very good! I'm sure the ricotta was mixed with like a sweet fig sauce which was such a nice touch. I ordered a French 75 for the first time and that was really good. For my main I ordered the wagyu special. It was good my only complaint is that I felt like the medium rare was slightly overdone. The cut itself was very thin so the end pieces were a bit chewy and of course not with very little pink in the middle. Next time I probably would have been better just ordering it rare. Other than that, the potatoes and carrots alongside the meat were literally so fresh and roasted to perfection, the atmosphere was lovely. I sat inside and the front window was open, so I had a perfect view to people watch. The service was really good too! Unfortunately, I didn't get my waiters name but overall, I will definitely be back to Gather with some more friends in order to share the experience and delicious food.

The second time at Gather may have been better than the first and the bar was already set pretty high. One of my favorite places in Chicago. Love the whipped ricotta. The service is well informed and feels personal. Can't praise enough.

Celebrated Mother's Day with the family style option. Each dish was absolutely delicious. Plenty of food as we brought some home. The desserts were a hit especially the apple donut for my picky teenager. The crispy cauliflower and uovo en raviolo were beyond amazing. Had the Count for my cocktail and it was sooo good. Our server was attentive and helpful. All of the staff from our server, the AGM and GM and chefs were welcoming and friendly. Absolutely wonderful dinner. Will definitely return to try other dishes. Highly recommend.

My boyfriend and I have spent several special occasion evenings with Gather and they have made each one memorable. We continue to return for the delicious food, perfectly mixed cocktails and of course the friendly service and wait staff. We’re looking forward to our next meal at Gather and know it will be another to remember :)

Food was original, creative, delicious. Everything we had was great, especially the brussel sprouts. But the tables are crammed right up next to each other & place was so noisy that after half an hr of screaming to make myself heard by my date my throat hurt & I didn't even want to talk anymore & after an hr of hearing the screaming from all the other tables I had a headache & just wanted to leave. I don't know how people stand it. A shame bc the food was so good.

We dined here (with our toddler) to celebrate my MIL beating cancer. Ben, the General Manager was extremely accommodating and truly went above and beyond after finding out what the occasion was. My MIL had her tastebuds altered due to the radiation and location of the cancer but desserts continue to taste good to her. Of course, Ben didn’t miss a beat and provided us with all three spectacular and well balanced desserts. This place is very kid friendly but I’d leave the stroller at home if possible. I didn’t see a specific menu for kids but I’m sure they’d accommodate if needed but a lot of items are very kid friendly. This restaurant is truly a staple in Lincoln Square, the staff are friendly and attentive, and the food is refined and portions are very generous. Of note, they have a Sunday Family (style) Night menu that I’d love to check out next time. Cocktails are perfection too, great wine and spirits menu. Thank you for helping us celebrate tonight. We’ll be back!

Gather is simply my favorite restaurant in Chicago. Every dish is incredible: the ricotta-honey spread and buttery toast, citrus cured salmon with fried egg, carmelized brussels sprouts with aioli...and that's before you even get to the entrees. Truth be told, I've never actually made it to dessert here because I'm already so stuffed from everything else. The decor is classy but comfortable; you'll dine by candlelight with a list of appealing cocktails ready to hand. If you're lucky, you can sit with a direct view of the kitchen where you can watch the magic happen. Incredible spot--if this place ever closes, you can rest assured that I will weep bitter tears for it. Please go eat here so that doesn't happen.

I've been to many Michelin star restaurants, several in Chicago and I wouldn't be surprised if one day they will get one. The menu is focused on a few items and they are perfectly executed. Absolutely a great food experience.

Came to Gather for my Birthday with a small group of friends. The busser was absolutely amazing. All star 🌟 The GM on the other hand was obviously irritated and on edge. Our server Demetrius did great. The food was good. Not blown away but good. I was slightly embarrassed to have invited a group of friends here considering how we were being rushed to order then our entrees took quit a long time to come to the table. Nonetheless- I won't be back with a group per say but I will give it another try with my husband and see if things have changed.

Amazing food. Only problem is that the portions are just waaaay too small for the price. If they fixed this it would be an easy 5 stars.

Gather is CONSISTENTLY fantastic. I’ve been 5+ times over the last year or two and have never had a bad experience. Tonight, they were able to fit us in for a celebration dinner - they’re so accommodating and the menu options change seasonally, but every option has been consistently delicious. The atmosphere is fantastic, warm, and inviting. Everyone who works here is friendly and helpful. They’ve been so accommodating of allergies and dietary restrictions. Will always recommend Gather.

I love the 'American New' style of restaurant and this was an excellent example. The food was inventive and delicious, intriguing but not too pretentious. Went with two friends and we shared three apps and three entres... and three desserts, because everything was just that good. Portions were ample but not excessive, so we didn't even regret it 🤣. Two drinks each on top of that and we hit about $100 per person including tip. They are well setup for sharing, with a separate plate for each person as the default. I really like that touch. The cocktail menu is brief but all quality. They have an impressive variety of wines by the glass. It wasn't too loud for conversation and the service was excellent. Our server was charming and helpful, but again, unpretentious. He was aided by enough staff to keep our table clear and our waters full.

It was a family meal leading to the holidays that brought me here for the umpteenth time. The short of it is it’s such a great place for bites to eat, conversation, and cocktails. It’s a fan favorite of ours. Can’t recommend it enough. You’ll just have a great time.

We went in because there was no room in the restaurant next door (even if we had waited there, it took them the same amount of time to give us a table). There were two of us, when I entered, I already wanted to leave! The noise was deafening, it did not allow us to be heard, after 45 minutes, they gave us a table, the chairs were very heavy and difficult to move, we ordered a Ricotta starter, to share which was very delicious, it came with some toasted bread, really, delicious , then a plate of Salmon, with vegetables (which not only came very cooked, the piece of salmon was a shame, very, very small. and some Lamb meatballs, which were not very good (there were three, like only one) To have a whiskey and I ordered a lemonade with ginger and honey, and I asked that they not put ice in it, which made it half the glass! The food at Gather was really not pleasant. Again I repeat the theme of not being able to talk Try putting up noise panels. I don't recommend it!!!!

Delicious meal! Made a reservation here and we’re seated on time in the back area. Had the butternut squash soup, brussel sprouts, burrata, and half chicken. The server was helpful and responsive. He made a great recommendation for a Pinot noir to go with our choices. Honestly a tasty spot that makes fresh, quality food. Will go back for sure!!!

Steak tartare was delicious, enjoyed the cauliflower (!!), and the salmon. We ordered 6 starters and 2 entrees. I wouldn’t get the spaghetti with shrimp again, wasn’t a favorite of the table. We sat on the patio and it was cozy with the heaters. Service was good, as expected for dinner service.

We had dinner with friends and our experience was delightful. Super cute spot with great service. Food was delicious, with layers of flavors and texture. We got the Brussels sprouts, chicken, beef, and lamb meatballs. All super delicious. Good selection of wines and the cocktails were also great.

Go for the Sunday dinner. Plan for dinner around 6pm to ensure you can order the special menu. Often sold out by 7:30pm. Wonderful 3 seasons patio. All items are fresh and innovative. Great place for an occasion. Parking on the street is easy.

Gather continues to hit it out of the park. The lovely patio with heaters that made. 50 degree night comfortable, the wonderful food, and the “just the right amount” of attentive service. They’re there when you need them but they don’t hover and they don’t rush. Love this place!

Magnificent service! Emily made us feel right at home! Even though we screwed up our reservation - she helped us and accommodated us. The bartenders were amazing and also super helpful (we ate at the bar)…oh, the food? Sooo good! We’re suburbanites that were down for a show - we will return, with or without other plans. YUM.

Intimate dining experience with tasty dishes. I forget our server's name, but I believe both he and the food runner were Latino/Hispanic, mature gentlemen. Their professional and warm demeanor helped elevate the experience. Both my dinner partners are regulars and say it's a favorite spot. It didn't disappoint.

Gather has a sophisticated & sexy yet welcoming atmosphere, along with a creative, varied menu, and very attentive service. Appreciated how the waiter explained the way ordering works at the outset, which made navigating the tantalizing menu that much easier. Recommend sharing the steak tartare, pork belly, & the gem salad. For entrees we had the pork chop and artic char, respectively. Good wine menu. This is a fine place to go for a special occasion or just to treat yourself. Highly recommend.

When a server suggests sharing dishes and they'll course it out, I feel like I'm in heaven. I feel pampered. The portions are small enough to get through a sizable percentage of the menu especially when sharing each course. We even got dessert which is so rare for me. Every dish felt noteworthy.

The food is amazing. The waitstaff is awesome. The environment is lovely. I celebrated my birthday here with some friends and it was the perfect meal and perfect place to celebrate.

FINALLY!!!! A place which cooks everything from scratch. Delicious food. You’ll want to lick the plate. They can accommodate gluten free with no difficulty and are happy to do it. You don’t feel like you’re a bother. The wine selections are first rate as well. Gather is not a large place and it fills quickly, especially if there’s a performance across the street. Come early like we did at 4:30. Or make a reservation to be sure. The atmosphere is a little too dark for my taste, but it can be adjusted if requested. And best of all, for those GF folks, the desserts are awesome. Truly unique. No crème brûlée to be found anywhere. Yay! (So sick of crème brûlée)

In an era of impersonal service, this was such an amazing experience! Leeann was our server and she was incredibly delightful. But every person working there was attentive and on top of things. We tried lots of appetizers that were unique and delicious. Two of us had the halibut which was really good. Another had the pork chop that had a surprising kick. Another had the steak frites which was also really good. This place is a gem!

There is a paid parking lot on the side, so that was convenient. We had reservations. The ambience inside was amazing, We were a party of three. We tried the Whipped Ricotta, Glazed baby carrots, Pappardelle, and Braised Short Rib. The ricotta and baby carrots were really good. The pasta was cooked well but it lacked any flavor. The short rib was a joke in terms of quantity - 27$ for a tiny piece, Really ? We also ordered cocktails and wine. So overall disappointed by the food and how costly it was. The service was great though.

Such a wonderful dining experience at Gather! Delicious and inventive food, fantastic service, and warm atmosphere. our group of three purchased the Sunday Meal served family style. Very reasonably priced for satisfying portions. We all left comfortably full. I'd highly recommend this consistently great restaurant!

My boyfriend and I celebrated my birthday / Valentine’s Day with dinner at Gather. We heard about Gather because I googled some vegetarian friendly restaurant and had the highest ratings of all restaurants in the area, so I made reservations. To sum it up, we WILL be back for the spring seasonal menu. This was the best tasting food… as well as beautifully plated… we have had in years. The atmosphere was calm and romantic. The service was phenomenal. I can’t recommend this place enough. 10/10.

Gather was absolutely delicious. Our group decided to order dishes for the table and eat family style so we were able to try many dishes- all of which were perfect. Flavors melting together like a rainbow of joy in my mouth. The fried chicken was out of this world.

This is the place that you're kind of afraid to tell people about because you're afraid you won't be able to get in anymore. Everything from the service to the ambiance to the food is incredible. Do yourself a favor, get the Cured Salmon. It's one of the best dishes in Chicago!

I was pleasantly surprised with Gather. Food was really good, and the service was outstanding. I have not encountered such friendly and professional staff in a very long time. I also loved the cozy atmosphere. It all added to a superb experience. I highly recommend Gather!

Incredible food. Unpretentious staff. Great ambiance. One of our favorite places in Chicago

We’ve been circling around this establishment for a while now forgetting reservations and ditching wait list for numerous restaurants in the area. As previously we walked in without the reservation only this time we got two seats at the bar right away. Warm setting welcomed us in and offered drinks to start. The Count in one hand and menu in the other led us to share a most satisfying steak tartare. We followed it with a Pork Belly nested in eggplant purée, almond dukkah balanced with lemon vinaigrette. Tad, bit, smudge and bite cantata warmed us whole. I couldn’t skip a soup if my life depended on it so Pumpkin red curry with oyster mushrooms and cilantro found it’s way to the table. Delightfully presented and split into two vessels to share was quite satisfying. Plenty for both of us. We got to entrees on a high note so we weren’t caught off guard by delicious hand rolled spaghetti, tomatoes and Castelvetrano olives dressed in manchego cream sauce. On the opposite side we had ourselves carnitas style Braised Pork Shoulder sitting on top of sweet potato purée, cilantro and chickpeas that brought us down to our knees. We needed what was left of our bubbly and water to bring us back. Bellyful and no room for desert we took our leave happy vowing to return for more. Thank you for wonderful evening. We’re definitely coming back.

Really good food. Service was strong and prices were reasonable given the portions and quality. This is a small restaurant. When you walk in you're immediately standing next to a table and they don't even have room to greet you at a host stand. Little space between the tables - staff even had to ask us to scooch in just to serve the tables surrounding us. Restrooms are right next to tables so people stand and wait for them right over your table.

Unique combinations of Intensely flavored food. Great service in friendly atmosphere. Tasty and a value considering price pressures. No wonder it's always packed!

Gather was a fantastic culinary experience - they manage to put together flavors I have not had before that leave me wanting to come back for more. We enjoyed our visit, we were planning to dine in some time ago and finally today was the day 𝗣𝗹𝗮𝗰𝗲: They have a good atmosphere, inside and outside, we were in the patio and we liked the lights and little trees around. Everything looks clean and amazing. 𝗙𝗼𝗼𝗱: exceeded all our expectations! We enjoyed all the plates that we ordered and the roasted Cauliflower was just amazing. The presentation was fantastic. The place was crowded and our orders took a little time to arrive but this was perfect to make room to enjoy the next plate. The portion in just right not too much or less. One of my favorite restaurants in the entire city. Everything is amazing here. This last visit was for brunch. Had the donut, fruit with honey, chicken hash, skillet, sausage & home potatoes. The bloody Mary was perfect too

went to gather for brunch and got the chicken and waffles as well as a french toast for the table! the chicken and waffles was absolutely stunning, the waffle had a nicely toasted, crisp exterior with a delightfully soft center. the fried chicken was juicy and crisp, not greasy at all. but the pecan praline butter was a true game changer. paired with the candied pecans it completely elevated the dish. the maple syrup had a rich sweet taste and was clearly high quality. portions were perfect, i kept some for my family to try but i would’ve been able to finish and be comfortably full rather than stuffed. price was very reasonable and completely worth it for the quality you’re getting, chicken and waffles was $15 without tip and tax. i only had a bite of the french toast but it was soft and flavorful and not too sweet or heavy. the restaurant itself was super pretty, there were a good amount of people but the tables are spaced out in a way that it wasn’t loud and each table had their own space. from our seats we could even see the chefs! food came out quite fast as well but was freshly made overall incredible experience and will be back! but please expand your menu gather, i want more options of your delicious food!

I don’t normally write reviews but this place deserves it. From the food to the staff, it was all absolutely excellent. Had a wonderful time in the cozy atmosphere, always had a glass full of water, and staff were all extremely polite and kind. Highly recommend checking out this gem.
