Aight so it’s NYC chinese food in the bougie 🤑 🤣😂 so don’t expect that at home prices, however it def taste like back home & also the vibe is nice and fancy w a proper bar and real good bevs. they also have a concert venue in that bih, so you can throw it in a circle right after that combination 🤣

I’m not usually a review person but god this was so bad. Flavor was good but the queen chicken I got was so tough and hard to chew. I was very disappointed. I got in through Uber eats. This used to be my fav place to get Chinese in la.

I’ve been going to Genghis Cohen for several years, and have always enjoyed my experience and my food here. Today was a different story, when we were seated, we were hardly greeted by our server, Azamdjon, and when he came over to take our order, he literally rolled his eyes at us when we told him that we needed a moment to order our drinks, and was essentially absent the entire time that we were there. The food quality wasn’t much better either, everything was very bland and flavorless, and the barbecue spare ribs were unchewable. Needless to say, my experience was subpar, and I will think again before returning here for dine in. Which is very unfortunate, because this is usually a favorite place of mine.

It is one of the hot spots for Chinese food in LA. The food was really delicious and came out really fast. Make sure to make a reservation in advance as it's always full. Our waiter was a little arrogant and snobbish. However, we ignored that part and didn't let it ruin our experience.

The atmosphere is great. The food is average for what you pay & service can hit or miss. I enjoy going. Parking is free but could be hit or miss as well. Very small lot so might not find a spot. It definitely has a Chinese restaurant that would probably be open on Christmas day.

Love this place!! The atmosphere, the service and food all 100%. My husbands always orders the walnut shrimp it is really good with a creamy sauce. The crispy orange beef peel is amazing as well as the spring rolls. The lo main noodles are really good too.. all is big enough to share so I recommended getting a few different dishes and sharing with everyone. They have music in the side room you, the night we were there it was an additional $15 but well worth it, the talent was amazing.

I ate here at 4pm on a random Sunday and it was incredible. I came to honor my late dad, whose birthday it was, because he loved Chinese food. Even though I came in alone, the server Jeff and his trainee were so kind and helpful and sweet, I was in tears when I left because they treated me so well and so kind. Jeff even comped one of my drinks, a Moscow mule, my dad’s favorite, just because he cared. The little things made such a huge difference, and even though they didn’t know it, those servers made my day. The food was delicious, the restaurant is gorgeous, and the service is great. Definitely don’t miss this hidden gem, I’m so glad I came. Thank you to the whole staff for the incredible kindness I was shown on a hard day. I will be returning for sure. Give Jeff a raise.

a very cool place with very good food, and a nice little concert area. the concert area is separate from the eating area and if you are trying to see the concert I believe you have to pay, even if you are a customer, but I am not sure, in any case, it has a free parking lot which makes it better than 100% of other Hollywood venues. the performers need places to park, because even in a society without too many cars, musicians are probably going to need cars to transport their gear so those parking lots are still going to be important I think.

I had a fun time... We went around 3pm. Food came fast and hot. Some reviews said the food was cold, I don't know what they were talking about egg rolls burnt my tongue, the butterfly shrimp was super hot as well, I had to wait for them to cool down before eating. The Catfish held its heat well and was still steaming well into dinner. My go to dish and benchmark, is always the Honey walnut shrimp. Theirs was excellent. I live in the neighborhood and drove by here all the time but never dropped in I was not disappointed. My guest use to come here 20yrs ago and she loved it.

I came here for a show, they do concerts and stand up shows in a side room of the restaurant. I didn't eat but I did have a cocktail, which was 20 bucks (which is totally fine in la). The show was well executed, both in terms of the timing and the sound system. The restaurant is a take on the classic suburban American Chinese destination restaurant, epitomized by drinks like the mai Tai and cream cheese crab won ton appetizers. Unclear to me why one would eat here beyond the vibes, but certainly the full bar makes a visit worth while. Would for sure recommend seeing a show here.

I ordered the potstickers, it has definitely changed in flavor and size. Even though you get more of them now, they're not as tasty as they once we're. The steamed rice was so so, couple hard pieces but no big deal, the soup is NO WAY Vegan as it definitely tasted like chicken broth. Maybe the waitress didn't understand what that means, unsure but it's also a very loud and warm place at night.

I came here by chance. The atmosphere is very good and the service is excellent👍. However, as a Chinese, I did not taste real Chinese food, but an improved Chinese meal that was more suitable for American tastes. There is a small room with a show inside, which is also its feature. I will come here to spend money in the future, but I hope its atmosphere can continue to be this good.

The highlight is the expansive menu --if it's remotely Chinese or vaguely Asian you will find it. Great tea and appetizers, prompt service, and very good dishes which fall just short of 5-star IMO. It's a great place for a group dinner, as they have those rotating "lazy Susans" in the middle of some tables. A bit loud but not too bad. One tip- don't be mistaken into thinking there might be some nice live music with your dinner. Yes there's a small space for bands but it's a segmented room, sealed off from the main restaurant. When we were there for a group dinner, there was a "high school screamer / metal band" there and the clientele was distinct. We couldn't hear the music, thankfully in this case. But overall this is a classic, retro -kitschy Chinese food place, can't go wrong.

SLOP. Went to get takeout on Christmas. I spent over $100 for the following slop; NY Eggrolls that was nothing but cabbage. Upon further inspection I did find a fleck of pork. Shrimp lo mein had two tiny shrimp. The happy family tasted like it was made with the food you throw out after cleaning your refrigerator plus two small shrimp. Obviously they can’t handle large crowds so stay clear. Probably why they never answer their phone. Can anyone suggest a good Chinese restaurant. They’re even worst than twin dragon.

I've been going to Genghis Cohen since 1990 and I've always loved this place. I've never ordered anything that wasn't great. Every time I come, I always dine in the restaurant( as opposed to take out) so the food is always top tier( piping hot, huge family style portions). We ordered the Mabu beef, orange peel chicken, fried pork dumplings, combination fried rice and beef lo mein( the Cracker Jack shrimp and duck are out of control as well. We didn't order it this time but I've had it before.) As far as cocktails go, we definitely had a handful of the Szechuan margaritas. Cocktails are always great( balanced and strong) service was amazing. The vibe/ ambience is unmatched( you'll definitely want to take photos for your social media). If you're looking for authentic New York style Chinese with a dope vibe, this is your spot.

This is my second bad review of this establishment. I just drove all the way from Calabasas to pick my food up. My previous experience was also terrible and I had to leave a previous bad review and only tried this place again hoping maybe someone just had a bad day last time. This restaurant is literally fraud, the food looks nothing like the photos, not only does it look entirely different it tastes bad. The one good thing it had going for itself was the beef skewers. I ordered beef skewers look what they gave me lol. In what world?? I asked and offered to pay for additional duck sauce I got all the way home and there was only one tiny plastic container. I promise you, on everything I love, only eat here if you just want to give your money away because you are bored because you will get all the way home and have to order from someone else anyway. What kind of meat even is this and where is the skewer??? Worst $100 I ever spent.

I will agree with many other reviews in that the food is good, but not great. However given it’s history, it’s been open since 1983 in the Fairfax District, and how well known it is around LA, I feel it’s important for any local to visit at least once. They have a fairly large free parking lot attached too so parking is refreshingly easy. They have a live stage show area attached to the building, and there was a punk show just starting as we were sitting down to eat, but they do a good job with noise management so we didn’t hear them. I really enjoyed the all red interior and red lanterns hanging from the ceiling because they both added to the mood and really made you feel like you had been transported to another decade. We had to wait about 10mins after arriving on time for our reservation to sit down, but our wait was very nice and did a good job. For our meal we chose a few classic starters and two of our favorite traditional Chinese entrees. To start we ordered the New York Style Eggrolls (they were pretty good although I wish the shell was crispier and there was a larger meat to veggie ratio), Cream Cheese Wontons (these were great, however pretty small and only came with 4), and the Skewered Beef (probably my favorite starter because it had the classic flavor that I am used to). For our entrees we chose Mongolian Beef with Broccoli added, and Orange Chicken. We enjoyed both and would order both again, however we both have had other better versions around town. Overall a good, historic, Chinese restaurant and venue in the Fairfax District. It also was very lively so would be a fun place to have a dinner and/or catch a show.

This place is definitely more fun than good, and it’s a pity because if the food was a little bit better we would have become regulars: the vibe is awesome, the service is great, and the price point is really interesting for the area. Too bad that the food is okay at best. Not Szechuan at all, just some standard Americantonese where onion and garlic set the tone in most dishes: even the Cantonese Chow Fun had way more onions than noodles. It’s a super fun place and the vibe is outstanding, I would not hate going back if someone took me, but I really wish I had loved it more to make it a thing ✨

Tonight we go in for dinner, wait 15 minutes for service in half empty room, no waitress, a bartender who's too busy changing tv channels to take drink order and manager who can't be bothered. Even after one of the bus men pointed to us to say we hadn't been served. We left and went someplace else where we were appreciated as customers and spent more than $200.00. Really bad service this time. I booked for 6 people and they put us in a 4 person booth, which they felt was fine because we had 2 kids. Absolutely no space for that many people to sit and eat comfortably let alone have space when the food arrived. They said the larger booths were reserved for 7 people however both parties that came in to sit in them were 6 people. Food took over 45 min to arrive and we didn’t have a set waiter the whole time and no one checking on us. Not an enjoyable evening being very cramped and ignored. Next time please don’t accept a reservation for 6 people if you don’t have proper space to fit them. I could have just booked at another restaurant.

I would only recommend this to someone because there is a lack of decent, sit-down Chinese restaurants in this part of the city. However, after eating here recently, the food quality has plummeted.

The only disappointment was that I was looking forward to a mai tai. It came in a tall glass completely jampacked with crushed ice. So much ice that I couldn’t even stir it. Was disappointed and will probably not order a bar drink again. Seems they want to save money on their liquor by overfilling the glass with ice and they charged $14! I’ve never had a mai tai with crushed ice in it before. Just doesn’t seem right!

The quality has gone downhill in the past year. The chefs are lmconsistent and it appears they are using lower quality ingredients. Their honey walnut shrimp used to be outstanding and now tastes like it’s swimming in soupy mayonnaise with no flavor. Smaller shrimp. The orange chicken is often over cooked and too friend vs before it was cooked perfectly with quality chicken you can taste. With quality that bad you might as well get Panda Express. Best nyc style Chinese food outside nyc. Singapore noodles spot on. Queen chicken and Mongolian beef excellent. Egg roll filling a bit disappointing. Overall will make this a definite stop on all future l a trips.

The staff was very nice and attentive which set the pace for the rest of the night. The food was delicious and the bar was on par with any high end Hollywood restaurant. I would definitely recommend Genghis Cohen to anyone in the area, or anywhere for that matter.

Unassuming Chinese restaurant which once inside is clearly very popular with locals, and understandably. Large menu, even larger portions, all of which tastes great - expect to have endless leftovers (which you can take home).

We’ve been going to GC for many years. It’s a go to for very good Chinese food and we’ll be going back for years to come. The service is very good. Everyone is very friendly and accommodating. The food is great. Everything we get is tasty and satisfying.
