Absolutely delicious food! Best injera I’ve ever had. Strongly recommend!

I never write reviews, but I just had to for this place. Great customer service and food! It was my boyfriend and I’s first time trying Ethiopian food and the owners were so patient in explaining the menu to us. They even brought us an extra plate for free and taught us how to eat it. Will definitely be coming back as regular customers! :)

Went there just today for Ethiopian food with my friends. Lovely management, servers were lovely. They clearly cared a lot for our enjoyment and showed incredible hospitality! I just wish I could visit more regularly but because I am from New York when I leave back for New York I won’t be able to attend anymore 😔 but if I ever go to San Jose again he’ll be the first stop

Hole in the wall with great food

First time trying Ethiopian food and I can say I was impressed. Amazing flavor with all the dishes we tried . And the owners were so kind . Met the chef and his wife . Thank you for a wonderful Lunch . We will be back soon .

Delicious, the food was amazing. The owner was so sweet and I would defiantly order again.

We went in an hour before the closing time and ordered the vegetarian platter, the food was cold and felt a little stale. Also, the neighborhood is a somewhat shady area. The restrooms stink. Would avoid and try Zeni or some other place around.

We drove over from the central valley and had a craving for Ethiopian food. This place really delivered. Almost deceiving when we entered for a late lunch, only one other couple was there finishing their meal. We were drawn in by the smell of the delicious aromatics and a warm smile from a man who was going to be our server, chef, and Ethiopian hot sauce/seasonings expert. Needless to say, everything was wonderful.

I can’t believe we just discovered this place that has been here for 29 years! Fantastic food and the friendliest owners and staff. We will be back! Soon!!

this place is AMAZING!!! don't let these snowflakes who are scared regarding the location tell you different. the customer service is probably the best customer service i've experienced! they are super friendly and educational on the food and spices. the food was extremely good and there was plenty! we got the meat combo and veggie combo. the area is a safe area and i WILL be going back. A+

Eat here. The vegetarian special is a delicious example of the quality of traditional Ethiopian food. The dishes are fresh and the injera is springy and tangy. I had lunch there on a weekend and had a chance to talk to the owner/cook/waiter, Mamoush. So friendly and knowledgeable. Will return.

Great Restaurant and awesome portions of food. Excellent food quality, the meat was delicious. I got the meat combo plate and a boiled egg. Each bite was filled with the incredible taste you expected from authentic Ethiopian restaurants. I highly recommend taking time to get lunch here it will be a experience you won't regret.

The service was amazing! So much good for a great price. The staff was so full of fun and the man working did a great job of making me feel welcome. You gotta go!

Declious food and good service!

This place is an awesome neighborhood gem. And open late!

Portion size was smaller than in other Ethiopian restaurants, especially for the hefty price. The Veggie combo was just as expensive as the meat combo. The Garbanzo wot was lacking any flavor. There were no utensils for the salad. The sambusa was way too burnt and oily.

this was my family's favorite Ethiopian place for at least 10 years. it was very evident there was a change in ownership recently, as the quality of food diminished significantly, along with service. complete lack of depth of flavor, clearly not as fresh as it once was. extremely saddened by this. once was a 5-star establishment and now would not think to go back again.

Very nice Ethiopian restaurant with good vegetarian options. One of the lentil dishes is pretty spicy so careful if you can't handle spice! The inside is clean and well-maintained with nice Ethiopian decorations. Parking is nearby (it looks like the front of a house, but it's okay to park there). The area is not the greatest so prefer to eat during the daytime and remember to take valuables with you!

It is with a heavy heart that I learned of the change of ownership for this wonderful place after 29 years of epic management and exceptional service. This establishment has been an integral part of the Bay Area community and has provided countless unforgettable experiences to its patrons. I am grateful for the amazing experiences that I have had at this restaurant and feel blessed to have been a part of their journey. The owners have been the most amazing people, and their authenticity has made the restaurant a staple in the community. Although it is sad to see them go, I am excited for the next chapter of their lives and wish them all the best on their journey. I know that their legacy will continue to live on, and the Bay Area community will miss their talent and dedication. I would like to personally thank the owners for their exceptional service and authentic Ethiopian cuisine. I'm South Indian and was surprised to see that Injera is just like appam! And Wot is the ethiopian version of Curry! The kind host explained the parts of the painting on the wall All in all a wonderful experience and a relaxing evening. 10/10

As our first Ethiopian food in a long time, this place scratched the itch. Ordered a veggie dish and a three meat combo. It was spicy but they kept the water coming. Great experience eating with my hands and the soft bread.

Soooo glad we came here for dinner. Lots of street parking, l dont think they have a private lot. It wasn't too busy when we came on a wednesday night. 1 or 2 other groups were there while we were there. Saw a few takeout orders! Service waa friendly. Food waa soooo amazing! We ordered a meat combo and lamb plate to share! Pkus and order of sambusas. And we still had lots of leftovers so definitely enough food. Generous portions. Spice and flavor was great. The lamb was probably my favorite but everything was really good. The sambusas were hot crispy and flaky! They saw we were low on injera and brought us more! Probably some of the best ethiopian food I've had. Will for sure be back here again!

Incredibly delicious. I enjoyed Gojo for a late lunch with some of my friends and we had a taste of the veggie and meat combos and the lamb (my favorite). Everything was very rich in flavor and I had a wonderful experience with the good service. We did street parking around the corner of the block which was pretty easy to find.

Went to buy some injera and the guy (I believe the husband of the owner) is one of the most disrespectful person I encountered. His lack of manners and good morals is portrayed in how he talks to customers. I couldn’t even enjoy the meal after dealing with his disrespect. There are many great Ethiopian restaurants around the area. I recommend you stay away from this place. They are also quite expensive compared to other nearby places.

The food is very good. The quantity used to be good in the past but nowadays the price is more and quantity is little compared to other Ethiopian places in San Jose area

I've eaten there many times over the last 7 years, I highly recommend it. Great options for vegetarians & meat lovers. Start with a vegetarian combo or a veggie & meat combo & bring some friends along. If you want to try Ethiopian food for the 1st time, this is the place to start.

Incredibly delicious! Had the veggie platter, meat platter, kitfo and sambusas. Everything tastes like heaven.

Liked it. Solid, rakes like homemade food except for the Shiro. That's my favorite thing everywhere else but this time it was my least favorite thing out of all the veggie dishes and meat dished that I tried. Salt level was inconsistent; some was salty, some was bland. I personally might not revisit but I would tell anyone not to go. Food took a very long time but the gentleman was very kind.

I heard good things about Gojo, so I gave it a try. This is one of the best Ethiopian restaurants in the Bay Area that I have had. Their kitfo is incredible!

Street parking so be aware. The building is old but don't be deceived by the appearance for the food is delicious. The staff is friendly and helpful with questions about the food, if this is your first visit, and recommendations. I tried the meat combo (choices of spicy degrees). So good. Tried their honey wine. Interesting. Very earthy.

Food and service were both wonderful. An exciting mix of flavors with options for those that do not like tons of heat. Side note: the injera bread served with the food is gluten free! So great option for those with celiac disease or gluten intolerance. Don't sleep on the coffee afterward!

The lentil was tasty. The potatoes and cabbage were a little overcooked but still pretty enjoyable. The chicken was very chewy and not at all “tender” as the menu says. The gravy of the chicken was a bit sour (and spicy in a kind of loaded way, if that makes sense); not sure if it’s meant to be that way. Nice and unassuming ambience though. Parking seemed like a street-only situation. Overall, a good place but a little pricey for what and where it is.

We’re lucky to have so many great Ethiopian restaurants on W. San Carlos. Gojo is delicious in its own right… their veggie combo includes one more Wat than the others which is a big plus. Ordered takeout and the food was piping hot. Highly recommend

Had the meat combo. Each one was very distinct and I love how soft and delightfully fluffy the injera was. The sauces are just so good that you wish they would come by the jar like any tomato sauce out there. The meat was perfectly cooked and totally could tell it was made with love as if your own family was gathering for dinner. A+

Enjoyed a veggie combo and a meat combo, plus they have gluten-free injera bread available for my weird friend.

We just moved to the neighborhood and decided to get Ethiopian takeout from Gojo, while our home kitchen was not yet set up. My other half and I were both blown away by the food! I had doro tibbs which is a mild and boneless chicken stew. He had special kitfo, well done, which is a very greasy but also delicious dish of spicy ground beef with mustard greens and cottage cheese on the side. We had 2 orders of injera bread on the side which turned out to be 4 of these large breads. So much (great) food! :) We had leftover stew but sadly the extra bread went moldy on the counter because I didn't realize I need to refrigerate it. We went by again to pick up a side of bread, feeling sheepish for asking to buy so little. The guy being the counter laughed and was super sweet giving us plenty of extra injera. I can't wait till they reopen for indoor dining. We have our eyes on that honey wine on their menu! I'm sure we will enjoy many more delicious trips to Gojo in the future!

Placed a pickup order for a veggie sampler and sambusa, it accidentally got doubled due to an error with yelp / grubhub so i had to call and make sure they would take care of this nice man and not leave him or me hanging with a superfluous bill. Onto the food- amazing!!! Best sambusas i have ever had!!! The veggie sampler was awesome my wife and I split it and we look forward to coming back. We have eaten at several ethiopian restaurants (ensarro / cafe romanaut etc) and Gojo pleasantly surprised us with the best Ethiopian we have had. Thank you Gojo!!

Really delicious Ethiopian food! The kitfo (raw) was a standout, and the injera was light, fluffy, and delightful. This place seemed super popular for takeout as well. Probably best for takeout or in a large group, since with two people we only ordered the special kitfo and the doro tibbs, and it doesn't come with vegetable sides so there wasn't as much variety as I would have liked (but they do have combo plates for one that might have worked instead!). Either way, Gojo was excellent. My boyfriend liked the doro tibbs more but the kitfo was some of the best I've ever had.

I looked up restaurants near CTA and, after seeing pictures of the food, absolutely had to swing by before heading home... Arguably one of the best decisions I've ever made in my entire life. And I've made tons, I mean TONS of decisions. I ordered the Kai Wot, which is a red pepper spicy beef stew with butter and ginger. The beef was tender, the stew was thick and had a nice chunky consistency to it (like me). Bonus points for the gluten free bread wrap things, also known as Injera. There's no real comparison, as I've never quite had something that tasted like this, all I can say is that if you want some spice in your life, you HAVE to stop by Gojo!

This is such a fun, delicious place for an amazing price. The atmosphere and food is so great! You should definitely try it if you ever get the chance. The price and experience can’t be beat!

The food here is amazing. Ordering the food as "spicy" is just right, and the coffee is so fragrant and different, I want to come back just for more coffee. My wife and I have been here maybe 5 times in the last three months, and each time the food is perfectly cooked and more importantly, consistent. Our usual order is a single plate of Doro Tibbs and an Ethiopian coffee. It comes out to around $19. Very affordable.

This is our very favorite Ethiopian restaurant! We don't even live in San Jose anymore but will make a special trip just to eat at Gojo! The owner is extremely sweet and the food is incredible!

Taste was just OK. I guess they prepared the curry fresh. It took more than a hour to serve.

Was informed that this place boasts (supposedly) the best Ethiopian in town, so off we went! We were the only diners during the entire lunch hour, had the whole restaurant to ourselves, including "entertainment" from a cute, smiley little girl (perhaps a relative to the owners? not sure). Ordered a combination of vegetarian and meat dishes, and ate like kings. Minus one star for the drab decor inside and out, but if you are hankering for an ethnic, eat-with-your-fingers experience, this is it!

Great Food, not very crowded, decent ambiance. Be warned though - preparation time is longer and you are easily looking at 30 minutes between the time you order and get your food.
